Every time I visit Modesto this is a must before leaving. Perfect place to be everyday during the summer! Whatever I get I always add the sweet cream on top. There are numerous flavors to choose from, so you can always find what you want. If you're feeling adventurous you can mix a few flavors and not worry about losing each of those flavors unique crispness. It's always refreshing and worthy of the drive across town. read more

moved to the area a few months ago... kind of gave up on ever eating anything outside my own kitchen ever again. vegan and glutenfree options are sparse here. however, while driving around, we passed this place, so i quickly googled it and their website boasted shaved ice with homemade (GF vegan) flavorings. bonus points: they don't do any baking on-site, and the non-GF ingredients they sell are limited enough that i felt safe trying this place. this place is AMAZING. it exceeded my expectations. there's a millionty flavors, and everything so far has been great. i wasn't a huge fan of the rootbeer (it's minty), but that's okay. the lime and strawberry are outstanding. coconut is delicious, but the haupia? omg, to DIE for. the kettle corn is also delicious (and warm!), and their iced teas are lovely. not gonna lie: we've ordered kettle corn, shaved ice, and iced tea and called it lunch. (like i said: no other safe places to eat so far.) but i don't regret it, and i'm not ashamed. i'm glad it's so reasonably priced. and the customer service is top-notch. everyone is so friendly. sometimes when we become regulars somewhere, the employees start to make us feel badly about it (which is odd, you'd think they'd want our business?), but so far they're just friendlier and friendlier. they remember what we like, and have made suggestions based on that. Pretty disappointed with our last visit. There was only one other car in the drive thru but still was a very long wait. The employees were not experienced. This is definitely not the crew I'm used to. It was obvious that there was a change in management or ownership. The drive thru attendant was having trouble and an older woman came to help her, she was not very personable and actually quite rude. I'm assuming she may be the new owner. The menu is different, they no long offer some of our favorite items. So sad because this used to be our favorite spot. read more

I love this place! The first time I went inside, I got my tigers blood/ orange shaved ice with ice cream inside and topped it with sweet cream. Yum! The service was excellent. Since then, I've been back a couple times but used their drive thru. The drive thru can be a bit slow, but since everything is obviously made to order, I can understand the wait. read more

Out of all the young ladies in this establishment, the employee that caught my eye was Christine. Christine looks very determined into what she is doing. She's getting things going. whether it's cashier, or the syrup station she is casually doing the job. The others do the job, but they don't put enough effort into what they're doing. Her friendliness really emphasizes the good vibes Pura vida offers. Whether if it's to give Christine a raise or a higher placement. She should be offered upon that opening. Christine is a hell of a worker out there trust me. I recommend to all that if you stop by at Pura Vida make sure to ask for Christine! Trust me your experience will be out of the roof amazing! Also the shaved ice here is amazing! So many flavors to choose from. There are times when I get stressed out debating which flavor I should get lol. Also ask for ice cream in the shaved ice. Pura Vida is a fantastic taste of summer year-round in Modesto! The flavors are amazing. While the classic Tiger's Blood is my favorite, their more interesting flavors like white cake and cookie dough are really good too. The store is always clean and the staff is friendly. Delicious! One of my families favorite places here in Modesto Not only are their shaved ice yummy, but very cheap and you get a lot. The customer service is great as well! I always get the cotton candy with marshmallow topping in the childs size. They give you a lot so the child size is perfect. read more

This business is absolutely going down the drain. it was a nice couple years to have something good, but they have definitely run themselves to the ground. the flavors are always bland and unappealing almost as if they have been sitting unfresh for months. not to mention pretty pricey for something so shitty. the interior is disgusting. always gunk on the tables and chairs, and a stale smell in the air, almost a mildew smell. to the owners, maybe its time for some changes? or to throw in the hat before someone gets sick. read more

Delicious for the warm weather. Legit shaved ice. It melts in your mouth. No need to crunch on it like snowcones. Get up to 3 flavors on each order. If you stay and eat there you can ask for more flavor as you eat. Their kettle corn is good eatin too. Id highly recommend you try it. read more
