I have been to Pure Barre at many studios in California, Georgia and Hawaii. I took a Friday evening classic class that was extremely crowded. One of the things that makes this workout effective is the personalized attention the instructor gives you to correct your form. Unfortunately, with a class this big, it's impossible for the instructor to give you any personalized attention. Parking is easy and the studio is located in a lovely strip mall. Southern Baked Pie Company is also located in the same plaza so you might be tempted to go in there and get a size of their delicious chess pie. read more

I bought the Fall Challenge Package last September ... I believe I paid around $300 (could've been slightly more). I attended classes at Buckhead the most and only 2 classes at Chastain. The classes were always crowded and the gals that came in right before class would start, seemed to have no problem sitting practically on top of you! Ugh! Given the $ they appear to be making, I'd think they would upgrade their sound system ... it sounds terrible and then the "Instructors" using their LOUD headset microphones only adds to the noise. You won't be getting long, lean legs of a dancer going to these "workouts"; your muscle composition is genetic. I won't be back and/or spending any more money here. read more

I really like these classes! I've only been instructed by Merrick and I love her energy and style of teaching. Barre has been quite a challenge, however, with more practice I feel that I will be able to fully keep and and challenge myself even more. My goal is to be in shape so I'm not sweating like a pig when I leave. I definitely recommend this place. Especially since they offer 1 week free. I signed up for a 5:30pm class. My very first class ever as I have been hearing amazing comments about barre. In a rainy day, you can imagine how insane traffic is around 5pm in buckhead. Unfortunately I arrived 8 minutes late and the door was locked.. the instructor saw me trying to get in and just decided to ignore me. As I sat by the front door for about 5 minutes hoping that anyone would come out to let me in, i couldn't wait any longer as to enjoy the rain in 40 degrees it's not very fun. I don't really underestand why can they have a secOnd Person that can help at the front desk so clients can feel welcome at any time and not like this waste people time and money. Pure Barre, did you know that by being closed during business hours yOu are loosing clients that can just pop in to get information about you or to sign up for classes? Your google listing says that you are open until 7:30pm so I can only imagine how much business you are loosing... very disappointed. read more

I've been going to classes here for about two months now. Barre is a "ballet inspired" workout that utilizes a few pieces of simple equipment (ball, band, small weights) and a ballet bar. The movements are small (think pulses), and they're isometric in nature. Pros: -the class is focused on form, and the instructors are always there to help correct you and show you how to properly do a movement -there's always an ample amount of stretching, which is typically an afterthought in many workouts -the classes are offered at all time of the day, which is nice in case you have non- 9 to 5 schedule - the only equipment you really need are sticky socks -it's low impact Cons: -don't expect to sweat buckets; this is not an intense cardio class -the packages are fairly expensive (think ~$69/month for 4 classes) -I've not once seen a male class participant, and most of the girls at the Buckhead location are in their 20s. There's not a ton of diversity in terms of the attendees. Overall, I'd say barre is a good workout to incorporate into a routine, as it focuses on things most people typically don't when working out alone. However, i wouldn't recommend shelling out the money for an unlimited option. read more

I tired Barre today (6:00 AM class) after seeing a few peers go to it. It was honestly an A-OK class. The instructor helped me only once the entire time that I was there, knowing that was my first time there. (I did arrive a little late though, so maybe I missed the beginning instructions). The class is 50 minutes long and your body is challenged by different forms of stretches and postures. You will slip a lot (I did) so I recommend wearing grip socks. The class was full but not over packed and had I had a good amount of leg room. I would admit some of the exercises had my legs shaking and it did test your body. Though I did not sweat that much even with my sweat wrap on which was shocking. I was told that you have to take a few classes to learn the moves and jargon. This location does offer free parking and traffic was great in the morning despite being located in Buckhead. read more

I was so scared to try Pure Barre after reading the reviews on here, that it took me about two weeks to build the courage. Now that I've taken a couple of classes, I felt like it was necessary to come on here and write my thoughts. Because if someone else like me is reading reviews debating on whether they should try it or not, I want them to do it! I don't think it's fair to rate a business (and the workout!) on people who attend the class. Yes, I agree that most of the women in there are gorgeous and in fantastic shape. But isn't that what our end goal is? I know that I'm taking the class to better myself. I will also say that nobody has been rude to me or ever made me feel like I don't belong. We're all in there for the same end result. Of course I'd like to make some friends along the way, but I think everyone is just in their own world. When you walk in, some girls are stretching, some are still getting settled and some are just sitting and waiting. The workout is GREAT! I've literally only been to two classes and I'm addicted! I'm in the process of losing weight and this class is exactly what I've been looking for. Along with eating healthy, I run/walk 5 days a week. I wanted to add something else to my routine, so I tried kickboxing, Zumba, yoga, etc. I enjoyed all of them, but none left me looking forward to the next class. Pure Barre is a totally different story. It's hard and I struggle, but there is just something about it that keeps me coming back for more. After the 55 minutes are over (which go by SO fast), I leave there extremely happy because I'm sweaty and my muscles are shaking. And no, you're not dripping sweat like you would after an hour of running, but you're gross enough to need a shower. This class isn't an hour of cardio, so you shouldn't expect puddles of sweat. It's about lifting, toning and burning. After my first class, I came home and said to my husband, "I'm not sure if it's what I'm looking for. I'm a little sore, but nothing crazy..." Then the next morning I woke up and my thighs, abs and seat (butt) were SO SORE. I was THRILLED! That was when I decided to sign up for the new student special ($100/month unlimited). When I was looking for a workout that would show results and intrigue me, I was hoping Pure Barre would be it. I'm glad that some of the not-so-good reviews didn't keep me away! It's definitely not cheap. But in my opinion, the higher the price, the better the workout. My health and body mean a lot to me. If it means cutting other things out (multiple dinners out, shopping sprees, etc.), then I'll do it. I've taken classes with Megan and Melinda and they were both wonderful! They help you if you're not doing something correctly, they motivate you through class and are super nice. Not to mention, they have killer bodies, which is even more motivation! If you're looking for something different that will change your body and you will enjoy, then definitely try Pure Barre! read more

This place is so new that I had to add the business listing for it. That said, the 9:35 am class I attended today was full. It's everything stereotypical of Buckhead: all white, mostly thin, fairly bougie-looking ladies with the random rippling sparkle of big diamond wedding rings in the studio lights. It's sort of difficult for me to review this place because some of it is just my personal style. I wasn't a fan of the music (Justin Bieber, house remixes of Sting) and I wasn't a fan of the Olivia Newton John, 'let's get physical' aerobics feel. I felt like I was in the preamble to an all girl orgy porn. Not a criticism per se, but my inner 14 year old boy was snickering through the entire class. Tell me it's not distracting to watch a room full of women thrust against their reflections with breathless, straining faces. The workout itself was great. Exactly what I've been looking for: largely isometric, highly toning, lively. The hourlong class zoomed by and I liked the emphasis on stretching afterward. The teacher helped me with the poses when I found myself (inevitably) going in the wrong direction. Oh - and the sign on the bathroom? 'Pure Potty'. I'm sorry, what? Pure Potty? Made me feel like I was in a gymboree class for grownups. It's the bathroom, y'all. And the teacher kept referring to the 'seat' exercises. We can't call it our ass, butt, or even bottom. It's your 'seat'. Your 'tight seat', to be specific. *heh. she said 'tight seat'. heh* For all this making-fun, I really did enjoy the workout. So much that I purchased more classes and am looking forward to them. Next time I'll just make sure to bring some multi-cultural friends and insist they play Crime Mob or something. read more

I agree with the previous reviewer about everything except the workout. There was nothing happening in my body at Pure Barre that I wouldn't get from a traditional pilates workout, and at a lower price to boot. At my class, the instructor apparently did not care that I was new. And she was definitely aware I was a newbie -- we shook hands before class, and she helped me gather the equipment I needed. Which was almost the only bit of help she provided. Consider yourself warned: if you do not already know exactly what to do, don't expect any additional guidance or instruction. In fact, don't expect to hear much at all over the slightly ridiculous soundtrack. And can anyone tell me what the "barre" part of "Pure Barre" is? We used the bar tangentially -- we leaned on it for one exercise, pulled on it for another, but it would have been essentially the same class without it. Maybe they had limited sign space and couldn't fit "Purely Extraneous Barre." Save your $26 for an adult ballet class; it's a far better workout and will do much more for your body. As a bonus, the ballet instructor might actually talk to you and help you learn the moves. I'm giving this joint a couple of stars because I do feel some slight soreness, and I can tell I got a basic work out. It's way overpriced, though, and overall not a pleasant or worthwhile experience. read more

I don't post reviews on Yelp because I feel like every single one of the reviews are based on the wrong things. Yes, let's rate a business based on the people that come to the class. I mean...what? Personally, I love Pure Barre. I too am "a long-time exerciser; I run half marathons, weight train, spin, kick box, etc." and the workouts I get at Pure Barre are effective and totally worth the money I pay for each class. I go about 4 times a week and every time I leave class I am soaked in sweat and my entire body is shaking from all the work. The instructors are really sweet girls and they mix up the moves each time so that while the hour long workout follows the same format, there are different exercises each class to mix it up a bit. I was lucky that the instructor on my first day was the owner, so I'm sure I got the complete beginner's walk through. I was also the first one there, as they say you need to get there 15 minutes before class so you can get the beginner's walk through. The music is about what you'd expect from ANY spin/step/kickboxing class. You're not there to dance to it anyway. Its there to help you move with tempo/beat. read more

I was sceptical and nervous about my first pure barre class. I was expecting stuck up blonde types and expected to feel out of my element and not terribly welcome. On top of that, I wasn't sure what to expect from the workout itself. However, my sister insisted that it was the best workout she has every had, so I gave it a go. To start, the atmosphere was not what I expected. The instructors at the Dunwoody location (I have not been to the other Atlanta locations, so can't speak for them) are very friendly and encouraging. The class is so fast paced and so intense that it doesn't matter if you have a workout buddy or not, so going solo isn't awkward. And the best part is the workout. I am the type of person who would just give up if left on my own. The instructors encourage you and push you to go further, but if you have to modify or strech out there is no guilt. As they say "this is YOUR workout." In short, I LOVE it. It may be a little expensive, but given that I already feel results (and it has only been three weeks!) I am very willing to pay the price. I love this workout concept, and I think it does achieve solid results. I've taken some Pure Barre classes at other locations and have had much better instruction and individualized attention. I was new to the Buckhead location, the music was super loud and I could not hear the cues from the instructor (my hearing is fine, by the way). Her attempts to provide individual coaching were not successful and after a while she stopped even though it was clear I was struggling. There is little commentary on form which could lead to injury. After hearing friends rave about pure barre, I was really disappointed with my experience here. The staff was friendly, but didn't pay much attention to students form or offer any corrections. I didn't break a sweat at all during the one hour class. I would not recommend this studio. read more

I completely disagree with both of the above reviews. You get a great workout, if you are doing the moves correctly. I made it clear that I was a newbie, and the instructor came around every time I was doing a move wrong to help me get it right. The next day I was more sore than I have ever been--felt like I was back in gymnastics. I have just finished my 4th class today and already feel more tone than I have in a long time. I do, however agree that sometimes you cannot hear the instructor over the music. I think that it is unfair to call this workout facility only for the rich--it is super expensive, and yes, people have gorgeous diamond rings..but who cares!? We are there for a great workout..and that is what you will get. read more

The Pure Barre Buckhead studio was the first studio I ever went to when I tried this workout for the first time about five years ago. I'm so glad I randomly decided to check it out back then because starting up Pure Barre has been one of the best changes I've ever made to my lifestyle and I have PB Buckhead to thank for getting me hooked! Merrick and her team are fantastic. They all have such great energy during their classes and motivate me to bring my A game each time. Classes are scheduled throughout the week and day pretty frequently so it's generally really easy to get to a class that fits my working life. I am the laziest person on the entire planet. I want to start this review with that fact. 3 years ago I moved from D.C. to Atlanta and my sister talked me into going to Pure Barre Buckhead with her to take a class. I haven't stopped going. The instructors at this studio are encouraging, welcoming and all so nice. I don't feel judged when I come here. Not by the ladies leading the classes and not by the ladies taking the classes. In addition to me being lazy I also have lupus so in the past I've always struggled to find a workout that I was able to stick with that didn't hurt my joints and leave me feeling terrible. I leave Pure Barre sweating and feeling great! I'm currently 5 months pregnant and still hitting the barre. I highly recommend this studio. Merrick, Val, Hillary, Anna, Jessica, Sydney and all the other ladies there will welcome you with open arms. read more

I have gone there twice so far, this review is based on those 2 classes. It may get better after a few more classes. I'm stuck with the monthly membership otherwise I would have never returned after the first class. Demographics: all white skinny ballet dancer looking females in their 20s with full-on make-up me: 200lb east indian that can't dance :) Pros: Intense workout (i think becoz you do sweat a lot and your knees/thighs shake like hell) without hurting yourself (i have knee and back problems) Similar to yoga-pilates classes You will definitely be motivated to lose some weight after looking at the skinny model looking girls in the class. Cons: The instructors don't give a damn about you even though they see you are a newbie and are really struggling. They keep saying "tuck that" . Don't understand what to tuck and where to tuck it :) Very expensive. They don't control the class size so the studio is very packed not enough space to even stretch completely which you do during the workout. Music is so loud, you can't hear what the instructors are saying. No beginner classes so you either keep up with the rest or leave. Really intimidating environment. read more

*sigh* Alright, people, here's the thing. MY THIGHS ARE SMALLER. And my abs are about as flat as anyone can expect when they eat and booze as much as I do - certainly flatter than they've ever been. And I hardly do any cardio anymore (because, really, who has the time?) Also: MY HUSBAND HAS EVEN NOTICED. I hate to be all reinforcing gender stereotypes but SORRY men don't ever notice these things. A gain of a few pounds here and there and us ladies are all "AHH I AM A FATTYMCFATFACE" but men are all like "naked lady. yes. good. ug." (Well, the good guys are like this, at any rate! And truly, truly bless them for it - run for the hills from any man who DOES micromanage your cupcakes and notice the same small fluctuations in weight that make us psychocrazypants!) ANYWAY. The real amazing thing about it is that I don't look crazy different. I've been doing yoga and lifting weights for years. The REAL amazing thing about it is that I've gained five pounds since doing Pure Barre. But my size is the same. Things fit me better, in fact. D'yall know what that means? I'M BUILDING MUSCLE, BABY AWWWWW YEAH! I am one lean, mean tucking machine now. So the fact that when I say something about my body/exercise routine and my husband says "yeah, I've noticed a difference, you look really great, honey" - if something relatively subtle can be noticeable to both me and my husband, then something right is happening. Things are being tightened and lifted and leaned out in ways that are sanctioned by our society and, you know what? I am fine with being more mainstream attractive! I admit it! Validate me, magazines! And here I am: I've updated this review twice, going up a star each time. Because, at the end of the day*, it works. I've taken classes from, I think, all of the instructors (Jenna, Merrick, LaTasia and Megan, even a visiting lady from Nashville who maybe is an owner or something?), and they are all great and will all give you a great workout and will all inspire you with their banging bods (especially their legs and asses...and arms...and abs....) Yes, it's a bit spendy, but how much do you care about being hot?! Riddle me that! If the answer is "a lot" (even if that's only the answer you will drunkenly admit to your best friend), then you should do Pure Barre. Why spend all of your money on expensive clothes to feel better about yourself, when you could spend all of your money getting tortured by one of the hot instructors at Pure Barre and then buy CHEAPER clothing but have it look BETTER on you because you're all toned and stuff? Plus, they've lowered their prices. Yes, only by three dollars a class, but the packages reflect the change, too, and it shows they're listening and heeding the competition. My advice to newbs: I, like you, was cynical at first. But look at my review history; it is a reflection of the results I've seen. I've grown progressively hooked. The workout hasn't gotten old for me, because it's enough of a challenge and I can feel myself getting better with each workout. And, the bottom line is, I've seen a difference. I LOVE PURE BARRE!! I am hooked plain and simple. I began taking classes in Feb 2012 after seeing some pictures of me at my daughter's 1st bday party (about 30 pounds heavier than ever before). Seriously in a matter of a couple of weeks I began to notice huge changes in my body. I've been taking 3 classes a week since February, doing no other cardio, not on any kind of crazy diet and have dropped 27 pounds and gone down 3 clothing sizes. No other class I have ever done has given results like this! My muscles are back, my fat has been transformed into a longer and leaner appearing body! I had to buy smaller jeans from my pre-pregnancy size! I cannot sing enough praises. Pure Barre has transformed my body! After reading some other negative reviews, I wonder if the nay-sayers gave it more than a single class.... read more

Pure Barre is great! It is an effective way to get in a great work out and have a blast! I have been going somewhat consistently since the new year and am in love with it. I started it initially because it was too cold to run outside in the winter, but I had such a good time doing it I decided this would be my thing. It is a bit pricey, but I think it is worth it - I opt for the month unlimited ($225) and have found that if I go 4x a week (or about 17x a month), classes average out to cost a little over $13/each which is very reasonable. I love this workout because you really get what you put into it. The movements are so small and concentrated which is great because then you hardly notice that you're in a room full of fit and beautiful women! There are many different variations of the 55 min class. The warm up is a core/arm intensive section which includes a dreaded 90 second plank - the only part of class I don't like! You then move through a series of 3 thigh exercises, which are then followed by seat which is 2 different exercies on each side. Then, you're on the home stretch and into abs! Each of these sections include some stretching at the end and then a more intensive stretch at the end of class. I have been to most instructors at this studio and enjoy classes with them all! They all have their own teaching styles as well which helps mix things up as well. This is the only studio I have been too, but I love it so much I don't have a reason to check out another one! I just wish they had more classes at 7/7:15..the 6:30 is a little too early for me! But, I can always work on setting my alarm a bit earlier! read more

My butt was sore after. Saturday am class in buckhead extremely full, no extra guidance b/c it was so full. Can't get a call back upon leaving a message and calling multiple times which is frustrating to inquire about buying a new client special package. I think you could get results going regularly, lots of 80s toning moves, but with a bar (think leg lifts, donkey kicks etc). They "tuck" alot, yet nobody explained what this means. Again, if the class size is smaller, as I heard the weekday classes are, it seems you'd get more of a "private" lesson, which would be worth the $26... I liked it, but am not sold yet. read more

A traditional pilates workout never got my legs shaking the way a Pure Barre class does. The intensity of the ab. work and the "seat" work is like nothing I have ever experienced. This is a tough workout, and yes, it is expensive, but, if you want results, then it is worth trying this out. Unlike many other exercise classes, a newcomer can slot right in - the moves are easy to follow - it is holding them that is tough. My experience of the teachers at this studio (after four months of bi-weekly classes), is that they keep a close eye on the students and help wherever they're needed. The point of the loud music is to help distract from the burn and shaking limbs. The louder it is, the easier I find it to zone out. I wouldn't play the Barre mix at a party, but for this workout class, it does the job. Thighs, rear, arms and abs. have met their match with this exercise routine. I give it thumbs up. read more

Awesome full body workout that can be done everyday to keep you in the groove. Instructors are fun and professional - keep you motivated! Is the perfect routine to keep a strong core long-term. I do Class Pass so I have tried multiple barre studios in the area. Pure Barre is definitely my favorite because the instructors take time to make sure you are doing everything correctly. If you are trying barre for the first time, I highly recommend going to Pure Barre because they will show you the correct technique. Everyone there is great and willing to answer any questions you have. Try to get to class early because the parking lot is very small and fills up quickly. read more

Rapid and incredibly effective way to change your body! To the common objection re: Price - anything worth doing is going to be an investment. this is your body. You only have 1. Give it the best. re: Lack of direction from instructors - classes are definitely fast paced. Buy one of the excellent Pure Barre videos and use that to get the flow of the basic workout. Then ask questions after class to fill in. And most importantly be patient with yourself b/c this isn't a workout that you master in 2 classes. However, if you get the $100 special and go 5 x a week and stick with it for a month, Trust me, You will be shocked at the transformation in your body within those 30 days. This is really the workout that can create a long, lean body with a flat stomach. read more
