I enjoyed the staff and location out in Algonquin but that has closed, so I decided to make the drive out to this location in search of new skates. I walked in and wondered around looking at gear and skates for about 30 minutes and not one of workers even said hi or asked if they could help. I had to go ask for help with skates and waited another 15 minutes before someone came over. The kid sized me up and told me that out of all the makes and brands, they only had one pair in the entire store at my price point. (7.5 to 8 isn't that uncommon). He then said I should get a $700 pair that way I'll never need new skates. Very poor costumer service and knowledge. Do yourself a favor and get fit and sized here and then order your stuff online from hockey monkey for less or head to Jerry's for quality service. read more

I was a Total Hockey super fan but I think I will reconsider where I spend my $. Years ago, I found Total Hockey during a web search and purchased my son a helmet online and had good experience. Since that time, I have purchased hundreds, if not thousands of dollars in hockey gear from both online and (when in the Chicago area) from the stores. Liked their loyalty program and became a Gold, then Platinum member. I even promoted TH to my sons teams parents going so far as to putting TH coupons in golf outing fundraiser packages, etc. Being from Michigan, we have tons of competing hockey stores here and I thought it was a pretty good thing that I purchased so much gear from my 3 hockey playing sons from Total Hockey (not in my state) when I could have purchased locally. Now I am perhaps regretting that decision. The problems started when I purchased a Warrior jock/compression short in October 12' for my youngest son - no sooner had he worn it when it started coming apart at the seams. I contacted TH to return the item and they said they would send me return instructions. They never sent them, So I called their 1-800- number (which says 24 hours - it is just a message service after hours) they said they would have Customer Service contact me - they never did. So I called again during business hours - the person I spoke with (after waiting on hold for 10 minutes) said "it was a matter for Customer Service" (Wait, I thought I was talking to CS?) and they would contact me - CS never contacted me again. So, I sent TH and email via the CS link on the website. In fact, I have now sent them 2 emails - No RESPONSE!!! Very frustrating. I am very disappointed with Total Hockey - any company can be great when you are spending cash with them but the problems show up when you have an issue. Do they have systems in place to retain customers and handle customer concerns? I bet Total Hockey doesn't even know I had a problem (I would hate to thin they are just avoiding me and not responding on purpose). Their internal systems or communications are messed up and are not customer focused. What is the lifetime value of a customer for them? Thousands of dollars? Multiply that by how many customers they might lose in a year (and maybe not know it)? I'm sure any business owner would cringe at the true cost of lost customers if they really knew how much it was costing them. Hockey gear ain't cheap. In the past few months I purchased sticks, skates, shoulder pads, jock, clothing, etc etc etc. Some companies are so focused on marketing and growing stores - they forget about taking care of the customers they already have. It is disheartening to think that after 5 attempts, I can't get a resolution. In this age of social communication - one bad experience can affect the purchasing decisions of thousands of review readers. It is to bad - I really liked my relationship with Total Hockey but apparently they have some things to fix before I will spend $ with them again. read more

There are many bad reviews on this place, but today's visit was opposite of what many people have complained about. The service was excellent. The young man who assisted me was super helpful and willing to look things up online to find what I needed. He answered all my questions with patience and knowledge. I will continue to shop this pure hockey and utilize them for skate sharpening. My only concern would be on inventory as they didn't have a few items I was interested in. read more

Huge selection. Employees are friendly and helpful, and my husband says they do a great job sharpening skates. Also, any retail store has high school age kids working on the floor. If the kid didn't know the answers, I'm sure someone else like a manager could help. read more

Do not get your skates sharpened here! Selection is good and prices are good, but the kids they have there sharpening skates are the worst. Bought 3 pairs of skates in last 2 years for my boys, and have had to have them resharpened every time. They were cut uneven 2x and almost flat a third time. They must not train their employees how to cut a pair of skates. read more

I've had mixed experiences here - some exceptional, some absolutely dismal. After shopping around Chicago for goalie equipement for the best prices, I came here. Best prices and greatest selection in goalie equip for picky keeps like myself who needs to try on everything and run around the store a bit before I make a purchase. I've spent over $2,500 at this store over the last 2 years; products varied in quality, some pricey items not lasting even a year before fraying and literally falling apart at the seams (brand name products like Reebok), much of it sold to me incorrectly sized by their "expert staff", only to be discovered after playing with and trying out the equipment - which officially rendered it un-returnable. I understand that product quality responsibility is ultimately due to the manufacturer; but Total Hockey refused to assist me, exchange/refund equipment, or offer any practical advice in how I could mend equipment myself. Staff on location is all around immature, but I've had some better experiences than others. At one visit, I had a young high school-aged kid help me with new leg pads, and he was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about specific products, customization, and manufacturing quality. At another, I had to wait 20 minutes in an empty store for one of 4 kids to finally get up and ask the manager to answer a simple question. When he finally came out, the store manager (Dom) was not only rude and a terrible salesman, but also failed to follow through on all inquiries and custom equipment manufacture updates he promised to call me back on. Even after spending $650 in-store that very day on a custom order he refused to comp me a generic replacement sweatband for a $500 helmet I had bought there a few months earlier, unless I purchased it for a rip-off price of $9.50. All in all, the hit-or-miss customer service is definitely a deterrent to making the drive all the way out to schaumburg, while the ability to play with and try on a wide selection of products is by far the best I've seen in Chicago. it's just one whole step above purchasing products blindly online. read more

I've been in here 3 times over the last few months and found the staff to be very helpful each time. We went in the first time to get skates sharpened. I called in advance to ask how long it takes. The person who answered the phone was very cordial and said it can depend on how busy the store is, but said they weren't too busy at the time. I'm used to getting bad phone customer service, so I thought this was a good sign. We went in right away and got 4 pairs of skates done while we waited. I then went back in to get my son a hockey stick because he's been getting interested in the game. I asked the salesperson for help picking out an inexpensive stick because who knows if my son will like the game. He also helped me find some nerf-like pucks for playing inside the house (had no idea they made these but they're great!) My son's been having fun, so went back in today to get him a helmet to get him ready for a hockey class he's starting. It was a little slow to get someone to help us, but we did finally get someone. We got the same salesperson we had last time and he was very helpful in fitting my son for the helmet. Hockey is not a cheap sport so I do value going into a store and getting guidance from a person that actually has experience with the sport. I don't understand the other bad reviews but maybe the staff has changed over time? I definitely plan on going back if my son keeps enjoying hockey the way he seems to be. The staff at Total Hockey were very accommodating and spent extra time educating me on hockey equipment specifics. Steve the store manager was especially helpful. Great selection, friendly (yet sometimes unknowledgeable) staff. However, DON'T GET YOUR SKATES SHARPENED HERE OR AT ANY OF THEIR LOCATIONS. Brought in two pairs to sharpen and both pairs got screwed up on the tips/rockers because the twerps doing the sharpening were in too much of a hurry. Go to Jerry's or Gunzo's for that. Otherwise an OK store for finding great gear of all levels at good prices. Plus ordering on-line and easy in-store return is great. COMPARE ON-LINE PRICING BEFORE YOU GO THERE THOUGH. Their site often has lower prices than what you pay in the store. They'll adjust the price, but only if you ask them to. read more

I needed advice and assistance on a specific pair of gloves which he knew nothing about and rudely brushed me off and walked into the back of the store where I heard him yelling. We couldnt wait to finally get to go to this store. It was a hike for us but we thought since they specialized in hockey only this would be a great place for service and advice. They need help in the customer service dept. Everyone that worked there seemed nice but they were not too knowledgable or organized in service. They had really young kids working and they didn't seem to know the differences between brands or which is better by comparision. They didn't have enough people who were helping in the skate dept. It wasn't like they didn't have enough people cuz one guy was holding up the counter by leaning on it and 2 others were stocking the shelves. Finally we got some help but he was also helping 2 other people. The worst part of it all was we sat down to try on the skates. They have about 10 chairs. They kept telling people go get up so others could try on theirs. It was crazy. The second my son got up to try to walk in his skates someone else was there to replace him. How hard is it to get a bench or folding chairs in that place? Now the worst part was that it took almost 3 hours to get out of that place. All we bought was the skates. We wanted a helmet but they were out. The reasons it took so long is the wait to get someone to initially help, the wait to cook the skates and about 1 hour for sharpening..at least it felt like that. If they would have told us it would take this long we would have come back when they are ready but we had no clue. They had 1 guy working the sharpener and several people who came in after us got theirs done before us. Then they finally got some guy that shift just started to help us. After all this we had to wait in line to pay for about 30 min. If you have nothing to do but waste time go here. Unfortunately it was a disappointment and we are going elsewhere. read more

I have been going here for a long time and have mostly had good experiences. Yesterday was another experience all together. they do have a good selection and prices are about the same as Jerry's . Yesterday I went looking for a pair of skates for my sons's birthday. We went to Jerry's first and I knew which skates we wanted and what size we wanted to try. We stood around for 20 min then Tom asked if we needed help, I said yes and he sad well I asked you when you came in and he never did, but ok. i asked for a pair of CCM size 8 and he stated I have to measure him. I tried to explain that Jerry's did and he interrupted me and said that "I don't work at Jerry's" and I tried to speak and he just telling me that "he has 42 years of experience". he was extremely rude and, after speaking to the store manager he did offer to help, but I was already headed out. I proceeded to Jerry's and bought the skates I wanted w/o being belittled. read more

I went to the Schaumburg store and got my son's skate sharpened before his game and when he got on ice he keeps on falling, his skate was not sharpened correctly. I went back to the Schaumburg store to get it resharpened and ask the guy to check cause this is not the first time that this had happened and know what the guy at the counter said "no this is not us or we would not have given it to you like this looks like it's walked on a concrete" and I said really? You are well telling me that my son is stupid to walk his skate on a concrete so he will be falling? He went on and said "well....I have been skating for twenty years" and I said..if you have been skating for twenty years, you know that the locker room to the rink is pudded? No apologies or nothing.this guy was arrugant and when I ask for a manager, he proudly said I AM THE MANAGER and he gave me his card and I said well you will never see us again in this store. I talked to the guy who actually did sharpened the skate last time and resharpened again it to fix it he did alpologize but the manager named DILLON CROTTY arrugant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2 pairs of faulty Bauer MX3 skates. I was dealing with customer service manager Nick Webb. Nick is very much out of his element as a manager of any kind. He made mistake after mistake. Lied. He even told me that "I did not do everything I could have to resolve this matter". It's been over a month since I first ordered a pair of skates. I still don't have skates or a refund. I spoke with Dave the assistant sales manager, he told me "I just don't care about this as much as you do, when I leave work tonight I'm not going to think about it again". I don't even know where to start. Skip this store immediately and go to Jerry's! You will thank me later. I buy all of my stuff at Jerry's, but they where out of some of the stuff I needed. I decided to give the new kids on the block some biz and check it out. Total hockey has the worst customer service ever! I had a question about a stick and they didn't know a damn think about it and acted like I was an idiot looking for a particular model. Further more, they are over priced by at least 10% compared to the competition. They hire teenage kids, which is ok, but very unprofessional when something goes wrong. I bought a defective hoodie, a hockey stick, and a girl cup...the only thing I had no problems with was the girl cup. My stick broke in five min. Tried to return it...since some sticks have a thirty day guarantee...looked at me like I had three heads and ten year old manager offers ten percent off new one...no thanks! You are ten percent more than every one else! Hate this place. Three strikes and you are out. read more

Horrible. To say the least. I don't usually bitch about sport retail dealers because I'm in the business but these guys were straight asking for it. I just ordered a pair of inline skates from TotalHockey.com because they had a good selection, reasonable pricing and offered free shipping. I waited patiently for four business days but nothing happened. So I called the customer service hotline to see what was going on with my order. I did not expect to have my skates after four days but it's certainly enough time for them to process the order and ship it out. I was put on hold for about 20 min before I could speak to someone, haha I guess other people were having the same problem. When I finally got through to someone and explained the situation. They did not have a clue what was going on. Furthermore, they were not even apart of the same company and the lady started to give me an attitude when I tried to figure out what was going on.
