Pure soul catered an event I was at and I wasn't sure how I would like the 100% vegan menu. I have to say, the greens were delicious, the chicken patty was so good even made in mass quantity! As someone truly addicted to cheese, I was not a huge fan of the macaroni and cheese. But, the barbecue was also very good. I definitely will consider having them in the future and even visiting the restaurant! When I mentioned my kid hadn't had any milk that day because ours all went bad, they kindly gave us a giant cup of almond milk and brought out a warm brownie a la mode while we were waiting on our food, all on the house. My shrimp platter had winners & unfortunately, two items that missed the mark The shrimps were plumper & more delicious than ever; so was the cole slaw. I'm grateful they were pleasing to the palate, because the greens and black-eyed peas were disappointing. They both weren't as flavorful as in the past; dare l say, a lack there of. They have always been a favorite, but not today. The greens also needed to be cooked a little longer and cut a bit smaller. If l hadn't gotten a carry out, l would have made some changes. I've been here several times now and have gotten different things each time and I love the general spices and flavors of this place! This time I got their fish fillet plate which comes with their yellow rice, tartar sauce, coleslaw and I chose their collard greens + Mac n cheese for the sides. Keep in mind that these are ALL vegan! Vegan food may or may not try to mimic the non vegan version and they have their own spin on it. The fish fillet does not have the same consistency but it is very good, the tartar sauce was very convincing. Similarly with the mac n cheese, don't expect actual Mac n cheese but it is delicious! My partner got their hot honey chicken sandwich and he said the chicken is very convincing and the hot honey sauce was very good, though he wishes it was less sweet and more hot! In the past I've tried their bbq plate and shrimp plate. My favorite so far is their bbq plate but I would honestly get any of these again. Their service is always amazing. Typically, collards are cooked with meat and the vegetable then takes on the flavor of the fatback it was cooked in...but these are vegan (in fact, if you don't know--EVERYTHING is vegan here. Yes, it's all plant based). These were cooked to perfection, seasoned well, and you will break out into a full happy dance with the first bite. We also ordered the SOUL ROLLS. Basically, it's an amalgamation of the best parts of a Sunday dinner twisted up and fried in a roll. There were collard greens in there; Mac and cheese was in there; and some good ole' NC BBQ (yes, the BBQ was plant based) was in there too, and it was fried crunchy--just the way I like it! My only regret was I only ordered one order (and I am eyeballing my husband's soul rolls right now because if he blinks, I am definitely going to grab one)! This will not be my last visit here.
