Fantastic Dishes. Pretty good service. Value of money spend is ok.

We had dinner and both dishes were poor to mediocre at best. The flavor just wasn't there, the quality of the meat wasn't there, the seasoning must have been at some other restaurant because it was there either. And for the prices I expected much better. We paid way too much for way too poorly done food. The service was just a hair above the McDonalds drive thru, but not much above. I say save your money and try some other place. Even Genghis Grill was better than this place in food and service. read more

This place is only 5 miles from our new home community, Villages at Old Norcross. A straight shot down Buford Highway to the quaint, historic downtown area of Duluth. With the convenience to our office and neighborhood location, a few of us enjoy going to this area often. One of our staff members particularly enjoys their skinny margaritas, and just about everyone raves about the tacos and taco specials. The inside is hip and trendy and usually very busy in the evening on a Friday or Saturday. To the point you may just want to compromise on sitting at the bar. The staff is friendly, and there are a few seats outside to enjoy a drink while you wait for your table if the weather is nice. Right across from the train tracks, you'll find it a little vintage and romantic as the train passes by, the sound of happy eaters chatter in the background and pedestrians peruse the main street area behind the restaurant. None of our staff have ever been disappointed with the specials, Pure actually does a good job whenever fish is available on their menu so go out on a limb and try it! This was my first time at this particular location. I typically eat at the Alpharetta location. Me and my friend both had peach mojitos that were good. I ordered the chicken taquitos with charros and my friend ordered two chicken tacos with black beans. We ordered a side of guacamole to have with our chips. I do appreciate the fact that chips and salsa come at no additional expense. My taquitos were pretty good. She said her tacos and black beans were really good as well. You get four taquitos with rice and beans. I was only able to eat two of them with my rice and beans. It was definitely a lot of food. Kudus from my inner fluffy girl. They also have on-site parking which is very convenient. The customer service was nice. We went around lunchtime and they were not busy at all. read more

My boyfriend and I were very unhappy about what we experienced Tuesday night... We are ALWAYS in the mood for a good taco and a margarita and decided to not drive 45 minutes downtown to our favorite taco spot and chose to make a 25 minute drive to Pure, because we do really enjoy this spot and have fond memories of our 2nd date there :) So imagine our surprise when we were abruptly stopped by the hostess as soon as we walked through the doorway and were told that the kitchen was closed... 2 hours early. I was confused, since we checked business hours ahead of time and arrived before 9pm. When I asked if perhaps we were mistaken about closing being at 11pm, she assured me that there was no mistake, but some kind of cleaning project was about to take place in the kitchen. She admitted to not knowing any details beyond that and I guess assumed that we should just be ok with that. My boyfriend and I sat in the car for a few minutes, pretty stunned and tried to find another place in the neighborhood, but everywhere was closing (at the RIGHT TIME). We wasted an hour that night and talked about never returning to Pure again. We regretted not driving the extra mile to another taco joint where we have been satisfied 100% of the time.  ...How is this an acceptable way to run a business? There was no sign on the door for an early closing, no option given for a limited menu-- we weren't even offered a drink! I am very aware of deep cleanings that are necessary in a restaurant setting, but to refuse to serve the public in such a careless, unprofessional manner to save a little money on labor costs is VERY bad form. Was there a manager there that night? I almost hope there wasn't and perhaps the team just went a little rogue. read more

Not good at all, ordered a shrimp dish that looked beautiful but reaked of a fishy smell. I ate one shrimp only (regrettably) my stomach was upset for the rest of the day. We sent the dish back. My mother's food was also terrible and cold. We paid for it nonetheless took it home and trashed it. Never again! read more

Good food but the environment was noisy and it took longer than expected for the meal to arrive. I drive by Pure just about every day. And, without fail, there are always people there. Must be a good restaurant so decided to give it a try. Pure has a well lit, clean, friendly environment. It is upbeat. Music was a bit loud for my taste. The server was warm and friendly. Chips and salsa - good. Ordered the Pollo con Tequila y Limón - quite good! I'd order it again. Took longer than expected for it to arrive. Noticed a couple that had been seated after me were served before me. Final bill was as expected. If you're looking for an upbeat, popular place for Mexican-ish food then Pure is a great place to go. The Skinny Margarita is delicious. I hate super sweet drinks and this one is perfect. We had an excellent server who was very frank about her opinions on the drinks and food. The tacos are great here too. I enjoy that they are authentic tacos and the steak is cooked to perfection. The meat is tender and juicy. They give you a generous portion of rice and beans. Had Sunday brunch and awesome it was! The wife had fish tacos-and she is a fish taco snob- and loved them! Empanadas? They got em', you'll like their hot flaky crust and yummy mix of Mexican-style stuff inside. My brunch consisted of 3 fried eggs (done but not completely) on a handmade little gluten-free disc of what I think was polenta. Doesn't matter, all 3 disappeared! Great location. Convenient. Parking is okay. Right next to the Rails, in fact last night, a train came by, as the bartender pulled on the bar's own mini train whistle. Now here the decline of our experience. The restaurant was not crowded, maybe all in all, from what I can see, 35 patrons, but at least 12 open tables. The hostess sat us at a dirty table. We had to wipe it ourselves. They had plenty of help walking around, from a busser, runner, server, no one took the time to wipe the table and the hostess, a young girl, didn't noticed that the table was not cleaned? The wait for the server was not long, but long enough, considering the absence of customers. Server girl came, as the water and chips in the same moment. She gave us a moment and returned to take our order. The food took a bit longer than what I am used to. Meaning, in comparison to the amount of people in the restaurant versus the same in similar restaurants of the same cuisine, this Pure, took a longer time. We both had Chorizo Rice and two tacos each. The server stated that the Chorizo rice was good and had little pieces of Chorizo in it. Well, it was LITTLE and almost non-existent. It was also, not flavorful and had no garnish of any type on it.....maybe a little cilantro, or diced tomatoes....Nothing! I had to pure some of the salsa from the chips to make it more palatable. The Shrimp taco, overcooked and dry and way too much cabbage! Cabbage?! I'm use to Shredded lettuce! Yes, some taco's have cabbage as part of the overall presentation and menu offering, I get it. But, all I can taste was cabbage. The Pork Taco, was a little better, but again, lacked flavor. One last thing, when the server brought us the food, both plates had a Green Salsa Sauce on it, she advised us that it's only good on the fish taco, but would not recommend it on any other tacos that we ordered. I called to make sure there were several vegetarian options on the menu... and they have a full vegetarian menu as well! Yay! However, I ended up ordering the cazuela, which is also vegetarian. And delicious... very fresh, great flavors, a good blend of spice, and overall a very nice meal. I highly recommend it if you are looking for something different! read more

New Favorite Mexican Spot! We tried this yesterday for a nice lunch. We enjoyed the queso and each tried the burrito. We were impressed by not only the service but by how everything was fresh and made with fresh made from scratch ingredients! I wish I had thought to take a photo of the huge chunks of all white meat chicken breast in our burritos..... almost unbelievable. We will be back.... honestly it will be hard to not go once a week:). Great friendly service too!! read more

I will start off by saying that this review is based on my not eating anything! For the first time in twenty five years of being a vegetarian I left a restaurant because they couldn't (wouldn't) accommodate me. I came in a little after 2PM and there was only one other table with two guests in the restaurant. My server came quickly and brought me chips and salsa, and a water. I asked for cheese enchiladas and was told they only have chicken, which were already prepared. I admittedly have no chance of being on Top Chef, but I am pretty sure of two things: One, It's pretty easy to make cheese enchiladas, and two, if you are charging over $10 for chicken enchiladas, they probably should be made to order. She suggested a bean burrito, but told me their rice is made with chorizo.. The last option was a cheese quesadilla off the kids menu. So, here is an empty restaurant with a full wait and kitchen staff that can't make a vegetarian entree. At this point I thought it would be best to go down the road on Buford to one of a hundred different Mexican restaurants that might have the recipe, instructions, and technical expertise to assemble an enchilada. I did have a chance to try the water, it did seem very pure. read more

Stop in today around 2:30 to get lunch today 11/10/2017, to grab lunch to go, the place was nice and the food smelled delicious ! The waitress was nice, I ordered 3 chicken tacos to go, everything was going fine then I ask the waitress could I add a teaspoon scoop cheese sauce on my rice , she was really nice and ask the cook to add a small spoon of cheese sauce on my rice, the manager freak out and immediately order the waitress to charge me $3.99 for a full bowl of cheese dip, the waitress and I both were shock, but the manager was adamant about it ! I left disappointed. I will never come back to this place or recommend this place. I'm just shocked that he freaked out over some thing so small. read more

My boyfriend and I had heard about the train shots here. We came in for the train shot & was immediately told no. Another worker came in and said the train was still passing and we could have the deal. When we asked the worker at the bar what was in it, as it did not look like a normal shot, she said "this". I love the atmosphere and the look of the place but that is as far as it goes. The ceviche was awful and the shrimp had a bad smell to it. The octopus was like I was chewing rubber. My girlfriend ordered the fish tacos and it made her sick. I had the Tamales and they were under cooked. On the other hand my girlfriend's sister ordered the Cuban Sandwich and she loved it even the next day when she re-heated it. I'm going to give this place one more try. read more

We often stop here for a drink and sometimes dinner before a show at the Red Clay Theater. The food is exactly like every other Pure Taqueria: adequate as are the interiors: trendy. . Went to the Duluth location tonight. For the person who doesn't tolerate spice, the fajitas are the way to go. Lots of vegetables, tender flavorful meat. My daughter and I wanted to split an order and were told we had to pick 2 proteins! So we did.,we weren't told that would cause the price to be over $18. We really just wanted a chicken fajita. It comes w 3 tortillas. We needed more =$. Asked for sour cream and weren't told it'd be =$. So for 1fajita w 6 small tortillas and 2 margueritas we spent just shy of $50! Oh- And some sour cream... the friendly but not informative waiter was misleading since chicken fajitas on the menu are $13, not $18+. (I looked it up online later) If I go back I'll be wiser and forget the sour cream. Maybe I'll just get margaritas! Ole!! At 5 we were 2 of 4 people there so it's a good time to go. Just read the menu well and avoid surprise endings. read more

When I first arrived at Pure, I was reasonably skeptical. The small restaurant is nested on the edge of downtown Duluth parallel to some dubious train tracks but appeared modern, clean, and oh so busy. As I approached I could hear the brief waves of a bellowing crowd as a front glass door opened and closed releasing a steady flow of people. As I entered Pure, the echo of the crowd intensified. Making my way to the bar was quite difficult through the small waiting area where standing customers firmly held their ground. Once settled at the bar I observed a lively crowd from casual young twenty something's mixed with casual to professionally dressed "baby boomers." The wait staff is dressed tee shirts, jeans, and "Chuck Taylor" shoes. The common theme was that everyone seemed to be having an extraordinary time causing the constant mumble so prominent in the background. I was quickly, almost instantaneously, greeted by a friendly bartender and a playful smiling waitress bringing me chips and salsa. As I scanned the somewhat limited menu the bartender brought my "skinny" margarita and offered up the daily specials; I opted for the enchiladas of the day. As I sampled my margarita, I continued to observe my surroundings again noticing the general mood of the clientele to be abnormally upbeat and excitable. My "skinny" margarita was not only good, but it has forever deterred me from ordering a "regular" margarita ever again. I'm not sure if there was a secret ingredient, a superhuman bartender, or if it was the liveliness of the restaurant itself, but that's by far the best margarita I've ever enjoyed. My enchiladas arrived and I was initially a little disappointed at the size of the portion (I mean, its Mexican food, right?) The presentation was good, the enchiladas were incredible. The portion ended up being enough, more than enough even for someone like me who skipped the tortilla chip and salsa appetizer. I found myself conforming to the ambiance as I bantered back and forth with the bar staff and paid my check with a gleaming smile on my face. Not only will I go back to this restaurant, but I will make sure to spread the word about the insanely good margarita. Tips: Order the skinny margarita- even if you're a guy Beat the crowd (although you might want to physically beat the crowd to get to the bartender, I of course recommend that you keep your hands to yourself and just get there early- or wait until after the dinner rush) Ask about the specials- get recommendations from the staff Enjoy the atmosphere- it's loud, but awesome Watch out for the Shake Weight read more

I visited the Alpharetta location years ago and had dinner here tonight with my husband and some friends. Well, now I remember why I didn't go back. I'm a Mexi lover and everything about this place was mediocre. We started off with the cheese dip. It's a pretty big bowl, so good for sharing with our party of 6. I was in the mood for the chicken soup. Big mistake, it was nothing like the soup I'm used to. The broth was a tomato/chipotle based broth that I did not like. I took a couple of bites and couldn't finish it. My husband didn't like it either and he usually eats everything. I had the grilled fish tacos. First of all, you only get 3 very small pieces of fish. It was probably like the size of a stick of gum. Very disappointed. Also, you have to put the taco together, which I thought was odd. My husband ordered the shrimp fajitas, it was pretty tasty. There were lots of veggies in it as well like squash, peppers, and onions. My friends ordered the chicken burrito (huge) and chicken tacos (def more meat than the fish). PT is a little more expensive than your average Mexi restaurant. Our service is spotty as well. Looks small from the outside, but there is also patio seating. This place is the real deal. I have been to 3 other Pure restaurants in the metro, and none of them hold a candle to this place. The food is consistently fresh and excellent, large portions, cocktails are phenomenal, and the service here is nothing shy of A plus. This has become our go-to on a weekly basis. read more

My husband and I have been wanting to try this place for a while. Finally went today, Sunday, at about 1:30 pm. We were surprised at how pleased we were. I'm from Austin, and have been on the search for a good breakfast taco since moving to Atlanta 6 years ago. I had their burrito desayuno (breakfast burrito) and for the first time I had the taste of home. It was incredible and my husband and I were impressed by the freshness and high quality of the ingredients. My flour tortilla was very hearty, the chorizo was not greasy, and the avocado portion was generous and very fresh, not brown whatsoever. My husband had the fish tacos and he loved them and said his ingredients were very good quality and his corn tortilla was very hearty. Margie waited on us and we had some questions about their tequilas, and she was very informative and we learned some new things about tequila from her. We really appreciated that. I tried the Semental tequila and it was very tasty. Buttery, sweet, salty, slightly limey and very peppery. Very smooth and delicious. Pure, please include a tequila flight as a regular part of your menu as we will be back to enjoy your delicious food and are interested in trying more tequilas and learn more about them. It's common to have knowledge of Scotch, or Vodkas, but tequila is something that many people need more education about; they need to drink better tequilas than Cuervo or Patron. Thanks for having Dale's pale ale, my husband had one, it would be great if you had more craft beers available, and even better if you had some taps. Thanks for your consideration. Very sad about the quality of food we had yesterday. The empanadas were soggy I had the hanger steak special also did with another in our party. She didn't like it either. It was the worst cut of meat I had in a long time. The temp on mine was very rare and I ordered it medium rare. The drinks were wrong to start but were corrected. Overall a bad dinner and that's sad....we loved pure. read more

Great spot! We will definitely be back. Wife and I were going to a show next door at the Red Clay Foundry, and stopped in out of convenience frankly. What a treat. Started with chips and salsa. The chips were still warm and the salsa fresh. I ordered the Burrito Americano with pork, and my wife ordered the Torta Cubana. The portions were enormous. I managed to finish most of mine. The pork was tender and flavorful. Not dry or stringy. The rice and beans had excellent flavor as well. My wife said the Torta was one of the best sandwiches she had ever eaten and was sorely disappointed that we couldn't take it home with us...or into the concert next door. The manager simply overheard our conversation and offered to wrap up the other half of her Torta and refrigerate it until the show was over. We took him up on his offer and returned to pick up her food. So, not only was the food good but the service was over the top as well. We will be back! read more
