The biggest complaint I have about PURO is that I didn't come hungry - definitely a mistake on my side because everything looked and smelled absolutely incredible! Came here during a quick trip to Boston and was bopping around Newbury Street to various wine/tapas bars. The reviews of PURO were enough to drive us in for "a quick drink" to check it out, and we ended up staying there for much longer than that... and finding room to have more food. The whole ambiance at PURO is just really cute - would make for a great date spot with the amazing artwork displayed at the bar flanked by wine bottles and throughout the entire space. There's a mix of bar seats, high tops, and bench seats/regular dining, so while it's not a huge space, there was decent seating (we came on a Tuesday night though, so it probably wasn't as crowded as it would have been on a weekend or on Thursday when they apparently have $1 oysters!). There are plenty of options for different wines and sangrias, a really solid cocktail list (including mojito flights!), and some various beer options, but most people were ordering cocktails (I'm also kicking myself for not getting our bartender's name because she was absolutely lovely and so attentive/friendly - next time!). I found post-pasta room in my stomach to try the ceviche - I mean how can you not?! The tuna ceviche was delicious and so fresh! I absolutely need to return and just make a meal out of the different tapas options on the menu; everything that was coming out of the kitchen looked and smelled so good. We were also brought out churros which was a really nice surprise; they came out hot and delicious with great sauce options (always need a dip!). All in all, this was a fantastic find - incredible, super vibey ambiance, amazing bartender, and great drinks and food selection in a low-key kind of atmosphere. Some dishes were good - the Sea Bass Ceviche was flavorful. Came here dolo on a warm weekend evening and ordered the Tacos de Pollo. They were okay at best, not amazing, but not horrible. I ate outside which is fun because it's on Newbury Street and they have a fair amount of outdoor seating--about 30 to 40 seats. The servers were pretty chill, friendly and attentive. I told myself I don't think I have a reason to come back especially since the tacos here a pretty pricey and the portions of the other food don't look very sizable. As I walked in the establishment to use the bathroom I was blown away by the decor and atmosphere. Cool murals, wine bottle set up and reggaeton blasting. SO delicious! Would highly recommend. The ceviche is fresh and extremely flavorful--a great summer dish. The calamari was well fried, and I loved the peppers that came with the dish. Great vibes, very small and intimate. They do not have a full liquor license so if you're looking for a good cocktail, this is not your spot. The drink I got was very sour and citrusy.. and wasn't a huge fan(Soi Y Sol) However, the food was AMAZING. We finally found a place that served aguachile and it was to die for! The tuna ceviche was also very tasty. We ordered carnitas tacos and the fish taco. All were very flavorful as well! I hope they eventually get a full liquor license because this is such a cute date night spot and would love a nice spirit forward cocktail. First time I visited PURO was about 2 years ago, so when my friend and I were back in Boston, I was happy to see that they were still open. Quite a tiny basement space in Back Bay, PURO has now some outdoor seating and offers a latin-inspired menu. We were there on a Sunday evening and it was pretty busy. I would definitely recommend making a reservation. We were lucky enough to grab two seats at their bar inside, which I believe is first come first serve. The indoor space is very artsy with cool murals. They also play trendy Latin music, which is always a plus for me. I absolutely loved their Puro Passion cocktail. Not too much alcohol and not too sweet. The ceviche is good and I like they you actually see them preparing it when sitting at the bar. I must admit their avocado was disappointing as it wasn't freshly made. The shrimp tacos were good, but I didn't like the actual taco shell. The churros were nice and crispy on the outside, and chewy on the inside. Our bartender - unfortunately forgot his name (starts with a J) - was super friendly and attentive. Loved his demeanor! I first noticed this place when I walked by one day and someone sitting on the patio was about to bite into some scrumptious looking tacos. I had noticed Puro before but it's a bit tucked away and had no idea they even served tacos. I made a note, and a few days later I was back for dinner with a friend. PSA they only take day-of reservations - which I personally really like, so I don't have to stress months in advance to see if they'll ever have spots. After much indecision (everything on the menu looks delicious), we ordered the fish tacos and the sea bass ceviche. The ceviche was super fresh, and the passion fruit and the chili peppers perfectly balanced each other out. It came served with (very few) sweet potato chips, which seemed homemade. Since the ceviche is strong, we ordered a few more chips to help us eat it. It was phenomenal. The tacos were also outstanding. Very simple, with limited toppings but all worked very well together. The fresh tomato salsa cut the heaviness of the fried fish, and I liked the addition of a slice of avocado rather than guacamole. Everything was delicious and very filling, and considering the quality, I would say quite affordable. I will definitely be back for more. read more

Despite there being some technical difficulties when we entered the restaurant, the manager was very quick to accommodate us and still provided us with great service during a busy time. The selection of menu items was excellent - we found it difficult to choose just a couple dishes, but we soon realized we had made the right choice when ordering the shrimp ceviche and the tacos de carnitas. Our food came out promptly, was fresh and nicely plated, and exceeded our expectations for taste. We decided to end our dinner with an order of churros, which was absolutely the cherry on top as they were piping hot and cooked to perfection. Overall, we found that all the food was very high quality, and it's definitely worth stopping by this spot for excellent service, delicious dishes, and overall great vibes and ambiance. The blah: our party of two had to wait longer than we would've wanted on a Wednesday night... when we arrived at 7:30 PM, we were told it would be 15-20 min and ended up waiting about 45 until we were seated at the bar. But the server was super apologetic, which made it seem like this isn't an everyday occurence. The yum: cocktails! I got the tequila mule which was limey and spicy, with fresh slices of jalapeños in the glass. My friend enjoyed her passionfruit drink which came with a strawberry on the side. For dinner, we shared the ceviche mixto, the chicken tacos, and the corn pancakes. I would definitely order the ceviche and pancakes again! The chicken in the tacos was too greasy for my taste, and the flavors of the sauce and pineapple salsa didn't really come through. It was also kind of messy to eat, and the soft tortilla got soggy quickly. But the ceviche - oh my! Fish, octopus, and shrimp were served up in a delish sauce with avocado and plantain chips. It was a great portion for sharing too! And the corn pancakes - yummo! The two cakes are slightly sweet and have cheese in between them as well as a sauce and more cheese on top. They're deliciously different. The small space is dimly lit and has cool hip sweet street art-like paintings on the walls. Come with a small group, early if you can, or plan to wait. I love that PURO has $1 oysters all night on Thursdays. The oysters did not disappoint. They were a good size and were pretty fresh. The shuckling could have been cleaner but I will not complain about $1 oysters. I also got 3 dishes to share with one other person and was pretty full at the end. I highly recommend the Pescado tacos and Aguachile Shrimp ceviche (not pictured). The shrimp ceviche had an amazing sauce that was light and fresh. OKAY. Did I just fall into an all-inclusive resort in Cabo??! The ceviche is to die for! WOW. We ordered two ceviches-- The Tuna and the Seabass, both were extremely different! The Tuna had a more savory, traditional sushi based seasoning, while the Seabass was more refreshing and full of a citrus zest. I was addicted to the Seabass! Instead of serving the ceviche with chips, Puro serves it with Banana/Plantain Chips instead, which gives it a nice sweet and salty mixture. We also ordered the Hamachi Carpaccio, which was actually sliced thicker than the usual, but was still AMAZING as it was plated on top of seasoned olive oil with garnishes of chili pepper on top. Lastly, the CARNE TACOS. The steak in these tacos were grilled to perfection! They were SO tender and flavorful! Food: I really enjoyed the mixed seafood ceviche. It has a good amount of seafood, has little chunks of butternut squash, big slices of avocado, yummy sweet potato chips and awesome dressing/sauce. Wine: The red wines by the glass we ordered (one from Argentina, one from Spain) were sophisticated with delightful notes. Service: Meh. We weren't really greeted that well and our bartender was obviously lacking knowledge of all the wines they were selling. We asked more detail about the red wines by the glass and all his responses were "on the dry side", "very good" and "full body." I was hoping we get more description than that as we already know which types of wine are dry. Overall atmosphere wasn't special either. Not romantic, not hip, not sporty...just a local bar feel. This restaurant should be called 'One Delicious Surprise After Another', that is unless you're local and can eat here all the time. Then I guess PURO will do. My first stop to eat after landing in Boston and what a great way to be greeted by the city. The hand cut sweet potato chips with fresh chunky guacamole kicked the night off. Not a fan of guacamole. I'd eat theirs with a spoon. The octopus in ceviche sauce was bursting with flavor and also palette cleansing. Which would help when I ordered fried calamari (sooooooooo good) and wanted to taste every part of the seasoning. All these dishes were happily shared with my party lest ye think I ordered my weight in food. Including my last dish of perfectly prepared medium flank steak, with homemade salsa and tomato sauce. In short, this was so far my favorite eat spot this visit. Highly recommend it. Just know that it'll probably be crowded and to accommodate the tables are too small for the plate portions, and you'll get to know your neighbors pretty well if you can hear them over the music. First time having ceviche so no point of comparison. Ordered the shrimp ceviche. Split a tuna ceviche and patatas bravas and tried some of the white fish ceviche. Patatas could have been a little crispier but the sauce was good. The tuna was probably my favorite followed by the white fish and then the one I ordered was my least favorite. They all had little quirks though. The shrimps themselves were really good and I don't even like shrimp but the sauce was way too bitter and acidic for me. The white fish ceviche was also a bit too sweet. We had a friendly and helpful server and it's a nice space. Overall a solid restaurant in the back bay. I was expecting another unnecessarily pricey small portioned tapas restaurant on Newbury street when a friend and I decided to have a girls night at PURO. However, the service and food we received was pleasantly surprising. Our host/server greeted me when I got there and kindly informed me of the approximate wait time (it's a small space and quite popular on Friday night, expect at least a short wait) and told me that I can wait at the bar. The bartender was friendly and the drink was amazing. I had a PURO Passion and it was delicious. The tables are very close together, so it was a bit difficult to get to the inside seat, but it wasn't impossible. Soon after we ordered, we got a chips and salsa which was perfect as we had been waiting to eat for awhile. We decided to order 3 small plates to share between two of us and then order more as needed. By the end of the meal, we were struggling to finish the food we got. I was surprised to see that the portions were good at a nice bar in Back Bay. If you come to PURO I'd definitely recommend that you try some ceviche (as the name of the restaurant suggests) and maybe try one or two cooked dishes as well. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. Stumbled upon this place with 3 other friends and decided to give it a try. Overall, a solid place, but with disappointing paella and definitely overpriced dishes. It's a cute spot with good, chill vibes and ample outdoor seating. We ordered a pitcher of rose sangria, which was quite good. Had a hint of grapefruit, which we LOVED. For appetizers we got the brussel sprouts, potatoes, pork ribs, and mixo ceviche. We ordered a paella to share as our main dish. The tapas were great - extremely overpriced (i.e. potato squares with sauce for $10) - but nonetheless delicious. I felt this is where the restaurant SHINES. Brussel sprouts also flavored amazingly and the pork ribs were NEXT LEVEL. Melted in your mouth and fell right off the bone, absolutely delicious! I'm not a big meat eater, but these were genuinely delicious. The ceviche was definitely different than the ceviche I've had in the past. And while initially, we were a bit hesitant, the dish turned out to be okay! I didn't hate it, but it also wasn't the best ceviche I've ever had. For a place that advertises on its ceviche, I was a bit disappointed. But in the long scheme of things, I don't think it was a terrible dish or anything. DO NOT ORDER THE PAELLA !! I am unsure if they had an off day, but the paella was, for lack of better words, not good. The rice was flavorless and definitely not even cooked thoroughly (half of the pan of rice was still hard). I was shocked at the lack of flavor considering the seafood inside, but it almost felt as if they cooked the rice completely separately. Similarly, the mussels in the paella tasted SO FISHY - really low quality and definitely anticipated a stomachache afterwards. I was so looking forward to the paella but it overall felt like an extremely rushed dish with little care or quality. My girlfriend and I were in Boston for my sisters graduation (I'm from Boston and she's from SoCal). We walked Newbury St and saw a Ceviche place. I've been lucky enough to visit Peru and have some pretty bomb Ceviche (imo) and this place was a completely disrespectful in that regard. We ordered the Octopus Ceviche and it was pitifully small. In truth it didn't taste HORRIBLE, but I really didn't think it was great. Considering that I could finish it in maybe 4 bites I was extremely disappointed. I genuinely think you could get more meat / veggies on a Del Taco taco at 2am then what I got. We also ordered a Pisco Sour. I guess it wasn't a "weak" drink? But all I know is that any cafe in Peru's Pisco Sour could put my on my ass after one sip. All in all I was several disappointed not to mention how pricey it all was. Oh, and it didn't help to see that all the water was filled at every table? My boyfriend and I tried this spot for quick in between meals type of food. We ordered the pork tacos, camarones and mixto ceviche plates. I had a glass of the rose sangria which was refreshing and perfectly sweet. The pork tacos were beautifully moist and had a good flavor to them. The mixto ceviche had a decent variety of seafoods but an incredibly strong lime taste that was hard to overcome once we ran out of the fried carbohydrate (plantain/potato?) on the side. The camarones has a prominent spice to them without being overwhelming. The shrimp and sauce was great with the bread on the side, just wished it came with more. Service wasn't bad.
