Was in the area, and Puro Michoacán popped up on Yelp and had good reviews so in I went. Just like reviews said, super friendly staff and very quick and helpful. The room is not super big but just right and there's a small-ish bar. All the food is hecho a Mano and comes right off the stove, out the kitchen and onto my table. The server had some suggestions and I chose costilla de puerco (pork ribs) which had a wonderful sauce - just the right amount of spiciness. The beans were excellent and rice was good too. The tortillas were wonderful too - just love when the little things stand out. I look forward to my next visit to work my way through their menu. Tried my first Michoacán place in downtown and it was straight up fire . Portions are huge so definitely come hungry. My friend ordered me these enchiladas I had never seen before -- they had crunchy meat on the outside and wow... they were something else . Totally different from the enchiladas I'm used to and so good. I also tried the ceviche de camaron. Pretty big plate and it filled up 4 of my crew for our appetizers. Super fresh. They have some fresh chips while you're waiting for your food and give guacamole. Sooo good. I never seen a place that just gives chips and guacamole as a free gesture. We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. Like most places in the area, wait times were 2+ hours but we got lucky and were able to get seated within 15 minutes since we were just a party of two. Brunch is a real thing on Sundays in the Bay Area. We ordered Tosdade de Ceviche (2) $6.50, Quesabirrias (3) $16.50, Tacos de Birria (1) $3.50, and Micheladas (2) $8.99. Prices were really fair and that is what we appreciate most about hole-in-the-wall restaurants. These guys just want to serve authentic Mexican food without all the price markups chain restaurants have. As y'all can see in the below and after photos attached to this review, the food was really good. It was light but yet filling. I also thought it was a cool touch to provide cilantro, diced onions, and lemons on the side so guests could add as little or as much to their dishes based on their own personal preferences. This place is a little hidden treasure. I've been here twice for takeout, both times ordering breakfast burritos, so I can hardly say I've tried a lot of their menu, but the craft comes through! The chorizo was crispy and hot. The eggs and potatoes perfectly cooked. There's a more than subtle hint of garlic that just gave it so much punch of flavor! Bring gum! Cheese, stringy. The disappointment came to the enchiladas. I ordered two orders of their enchiladas michoacanas tortillas mid fried (media doradas) with chicken (pierna y muslo). The flavor was there, however, the chicken was extremely dry... perhaps it was overly fried. The tortillas were hard. Their texture were close to tostadas but more on the stale side. Quite possibly the best tacos bierras I've ever had. 3 tacos which were extremely filling perfectly soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside, with generous portions of meat and cheese inside of them and seasoned to perfection. It came with two salsas, on red and one green both were amazing. Neither was too watery and both were busting with flavor. The citrus in the salsa cut the fat from the rich meat and cheese and added layers and depths of flavor for each bite. The tacos were also accompanied by chopped cilantro and onions. They provided some zing to the already complex and flavorful tacos. I washed them down with a Victoria beer properly dressed with a fresh lime (not dry). I would have posted a picture but as soon as I had my first bite the next thing I knew was that I had devoured the delectable lunch. A hidden gem - they have really good micheladas with shrimp :P the shrimp on the micheladas are spicy but soooo good! I also ordered a shrimp rice plate, which came with fresh hand-made tortillas! Yummy. The only downfall is that there is a language barrier, so if you don't know much Spanish, you'll have to pick and point at the menu for what you want. Was looking for authentic taste of Menudo from Mexico on a rainy day. Well we found it at Puro Michoacan in San Jose.. We had help from our daughter in-law and parents who were from south of the border. So we met up with them and found where the rainbow ended at a crowded and a little wait line in front of a little green building.
