I live in San Diego by the 56 freeway and would drive up there again just to have an oil change. they've earned my trust and my business. they DO NOT TAKE APPOINTMENTS. first come first served. if you think thats not smart, let me tell you that every time I came in over the span of a month, theyre tables were filled with clipboards of cars that need fixes, oil change etc. customer service: if youre patient and kind to them, they'll return the gesture. no sugar coating here, they'll give you the facts straight up of what needs to be done. thats how they do it. I've come in a few times to get an oil change and they always tell me it's about a 2 hour wait. However, it actually takes 4 hours and usually leave my car for a last minute task and don't fully inspect. Had to retrieve my car after leaving it at 10am and not being done by 2:45pm. No longer will be doing business with them. I usually have a lot of patience but this place unfortunately has pushed it too far. There are a lot of other neighboring shops that I'll be exploring. read more

Ray was great! Talked to us like he's known us for years. Got an oil change on the Tundra for $18! For no extra charge they aired up the tires, cleaned the battery terminals and did a visual check. Definitely recommend them and will be coming back. read more

So my car breaks down on the freeway on a saturday afternoon. i live about 2 hours from where my car broke down. all the dealerships are closed and so i call them and they can see us right away. AMAZING AWESOME HELPFUL AND HONEST first of all they must be prior military so that was awesome. THEY GOT IT DONE WHEN THEY SAID THEY WOULD charged me i thought way cheap for what it was and not only that, they let me know there was a recall on the part and i wrote a letter to honda and i got my money back! i wish i lived closer i would take my car to them all of the time. super nice and they deserve all the success in the world!! read more

Purrfect Auto is pretty great.. That is where we go to get our smog checks and oil changes. They have military discount and the prices are very reasonable. Paying $30 bucks at Firestone for oil change and waited 3 hours was horrible. But here, paid $15 and waited an hour and a half at the most. They have comfy COUCHES to chill in and its in a great spot actually.. you could always walk around downtown while you are waiting. Very good!! read more

Bad customer service. There was two reasons I chose to go to this place: One, I kept reading good reviews on Yelp. Two, being prior military, it seemed like a military friendly shop. I go in because I need a smog check. He directs me Lighting Smog, down the street. I go and after the check is done my car needs work. The Lighting Smog people give me a sheets of shops where my vehicle can be serviced. One of the highlighted shops is Purrfect Auto Service. I go in again and I'm waiting and waiting, two guys sitting on the desk without acknowledging me. Finally, Ray attends to me in a stern manner and his tone changes to a much friendlier one at what seems to be a returning customer, an older lady who knows his name. It's 10am and he tells me it'll take 2-3 hours to call me to see what they can do for me after a diagnostic is done on the vehicle. I get no phone call at 1pm so I give him a call at 1:15pm and ask him what the situation is. He tells me it's going to take another hour or two before he can tell me anything. I ask, "Do you have an estimate of time? You told me that it would take three hours the first time." This must of set him off or something and tells me that he could call me whenever they're ready with it. I tell him that I need my car for work. I get cut off by him, "You know what 'Bro'? Come get your car." and hangs up. I'm not on here to say that they do good or bad work on the vehicles because mine didn't even make it to the shop, it stayed parked outside for hours. I lost time from this experience and as a customer, who was not attempting to be rude at all, didn't get well treated. I'm a patient person and I know how to wait but I hope no one who goes to this shop goes through what I went through. Like I said before seeing all the good reviews on here and thinking it was military friendly was perhaps MY downfall. Either way the customer service that was provided to me was not at all professional. Good ventures to this shop. read more

I took my vehicle to Purrfect auto for a simple oil change. Got my car back and notice a lot of fluid in my drive way when I got home. I called them the next day and took it back. I watched them recklessly driver my vehicle on to the liftgate and seen my cars front end bottom out on the metal. They swore they had nothing to do with my radiator being cracked. He said you must have bottomed out somewhere else. I asked why didn't you tell me I had a leak when I left and they couldn't answer that question. DO NOT GO HERE I REPEAT DO NOT GO HERE. Ray is the man!! I have a 2000 Nissan Xterra and she's losing it in a lot of aspects; my knock sensor went out a few months back and I had them fix it. I got quoted SO much money by other shops that I just let my baby girl sit there. It was until I got an abandoned vehicle notice that I decided to get 'er fixed. I asked around and a bunch of my friends recommended Purrfect Auto, a tow trip later and I had her at the shop. Not only was the turn around quick, but they kept me informed of everything they were doing and made sure they had my verbal consent on anything extra they did!! These people will sucker you in with the 15 dollar oil change. But I wouldn't trust them with anything else. I've paid 2000 in the past month to fix a 50 dollar problem they kept messing up. Ray is a nice guy, but he has no earthly idea on how to work anything on a car. Their mechanics are complete idiots and they should not be operating anything car related. They have had my car for over 2 weeks and the problem is still not fixed. I would rather have actual monkeys repairing my car! And they had the nerve to tell me "we will jump your car off to get you going" after they told me my battery was busted but I just bought it, then they said alternator, just bought one. These guys are the BEST! You come here to get your car fixed, honestly and for a reasonable price. They don't sell you what you don't need and I completely trust their decisions. I brought our cars here since we got here in 2008, someone at Camp Pendleton recommended we go here and we've been here ever since. The time I thought there was a problem and they didn't think it was, they did not charge me. That sort of thing just doesn't happen these days with "diagnostic fees" everywhere else. It's a no frills place, no appointments, first in first out sort of place, just park anywhere you can and bring them the key, but it is walking distance to the transit center and beach if your car is going to be there awhile. If you're looking for a place with free wifi, great coffee and new lounge chairs to work in then you're probably going to need to go elsewhere to find that. But this place is the best and these guys rock. They're super kind to military and not condescending to wives and women who bring cars in and they are greatly, greatly appreciated. read more

I felt like I my car was rushed over because I had a coupon from penny saver. A week and a half after my service there, I realize there was a slight rattle coming from the engine...my car having set unused for quite some time, I figured something was going wrong. I lift the hood to find that the mechanic at Purrfect Auto never put my oil cap back on. He left it setting on top of the engine. Unacceptible!! I will not ever go there again. read more

Been going here for over a decade...still go here even though we moved to Fallbrook in 2004. So worth it! Ray is very nice and explains things thoroughly- especially since I don't know a whole lot about cars! Never ever have felt ripped off or taken advantage of! They are very honest and trustworthy! My husband and I both take our vehicles there and will for many more years to come! Just wish we still lived in Oside! Oh well, gives me an excuse to go visit! Going in for some work next week! Not sure how good they are as mechanics. We will see how the repairs hold up. Would not want to have any difficulties with the repairs as I am sure Ray would have reasons not to correct them. Not trustworthy... Can only say that what Ray told me on the phone and what he did are two different things. He quoted me one price and charged me about $75 more. He also offered a "special" price on some additional repairs to get me to agree to the original set of repairs. Upon my return to use the "special" offer, he at first failed to remember it but then did. When I asked about the additional $75 charged on the first bill, he told me I was mistaken in what he quoted me on the phone. Since I was in a situation where I only had a certain amount of money to spend on repairs and the final bill exceeded this, I am clear that I was correct about the original quote and phone conversation. Ray makes a lot of phone calls about repairs and could have made a mistake when he spoke with me but he was really sure he had not and would not consider that a possibility. I was going to just let it go. Lesson learned. When I discussed this with him in the office, he was pleasant and agreed to do the repair at the "special" price offered me. When I went to my car to get my hat, he asked me to step aside to discuss our misunderstanding. What a change in personality-Mr. Reasonable inside, in front of customers and a bully, outside where no one else could hear. (I am a mature woman and did not lose my cool). Could it be that he did not want to honor the "special" offer he made to me on the phone when I was approving my first set of repairs???? I learned the hard way that this is not a place to be trusted. After the second discussion about the bill, initiated by Ray, he told me he would not work on my car. What an easy way to not honor the "special" price he offered me to get me to do the first set of repairs. I went here because of all the positive Yelp reviews but learned the hard way that this business is not to be trusted. Don't let em pull the wool over your eyes. read more

$30 smog - out the door! I arrived w/ only 1 customer ahead of me, I think I might have been there for a total of 15 or 20 minutes. As I waited, the 2 staff & another customer that came in behind me chatted about Hawaii as we all had ties to the islands. The place is pretty big & does other repairs too but I just came in for a smog. Definitely come here if you are needing a smog. They were also nice enough to let me know that if my check engine light was on that the smog would not pass before they started the process. I was dreading getting my smog done because I thought it was gonna be a pain in the butt but Purrfect Auto made it a quick pain free experience! read more

I am really happy I found this place through our long lost Penny Saver. I originally came here for a good deal on an oil change. Since then, we have brought 2 cars and had over 5 regular maintenance visits and 2 smog checks. Every guy there is friendly and professional. It is a very busy shop for good reason. I saw 3 other women there and I know 2 of them were repeat customers, like myself. They treated them with kindness and I could see the confidence the customers had in the work and the prices. They actually charged me less than I expected more than once. It isn't easy to find a mechanic that you totally trust. I also noticed how they honor our military and on several occasions I noticed a multi cultural and all races hospitality. GREAT JOB!! I heard mixed reviews about the place, so I decided to give it a try. We walked in and immediately were helped, for getting our car smog tested for base purposes. He asked us for our keys and said it would be done within the hour. We thought it would take the full hour because we just did a walk in, so we strolled downtown Oceanside. It only took them 30 minutes. The price of the smog test was heart stopping. We only paid 25$ where most places it cost 60$! We even got military discount. I will be going back! read more
