Putnam Ford Uses Customer Cars for Transport of Their Staff I received a text message from Putnam Ford stating that our car, which had been in for service, was ready for pickup, so I took Caltrain from San Mateo to Burlingame. From Burlingame station, I walked up California Dr toward Putnam Ford at 885 N. San Mateo. As I approached the intersection of California Dr and Bayswater Ave, I saw our Ford Escape driving quickly down California Dr and turning at the intersection onto Bayswater Ave, with two young men inside. I thought it was strange to see our car driving by, especially since I was on my way to the workshop to pick it up. When I arrived at Putnam Ford, our car was not in the parking lot. I went inside to the service desk to sign the necessary papers, and the service advisor tried to find the keys to our car - but with no luck. He then went out to the parking lot to look for the car, but couldn't find it initially. Suddenly, it appeared in a far corner, with one young man stepping out. The other person wasn't there, but this young man conveniently brought the keys to the service desk. The car was then driven to the service office where I was waiting. I asked how it was possible that I saw our car driving at a high speed when I was walking to the workshop to pick it up, with two young men whom I assumed both worked for Putnam Ford. There wasn't a clear answer to this, except that I was told the car had just been picked up from their other workshop by the service advisor, who had walked there to get it. After talking with the service advisor for a few minutes, we went to speak with the service manager, and I asked the same question: why was our car driving on the road with their employees inside? I was then told that they don't have much parking at their workshop, so they use a parking lot one block away when their lot is full, and they also have another workshop further up the street. After a lot of back-and-forth conversation, I found out that they had used our car to transport another employee to their second workshop, even though they have a car for this purpose, according to the service manager. So, it seems like they are using customers' cars to transport their staff to their outer parking lot and workshop, likely to save mileage on the vehicle that should be used for this purpose. Our car had been at Putnam Ford for two days, and I couldn't help but wonder how much they had used it for various errands. Unfortunately, I didn't record the mileage when I dropped it off, as it was 3:30 am and I was on my way to work. But I will definitely make sure to do that next time I leave my car for service - which, of course, will not be at Putnam Ford in San Mateo. read more

Dropped my Explorer off for an oil change, mushy brakes, intermittent rear camera and a cost to replace a fog light. They also asked if I would like a cost for an airbag light that was on. I picked up me car 2 days later. Summary of service I paid almost $1900 for an oil change and estimates to fix everything. Estimate for the airbag was to replace the airbag wiring harness $1850 instead of looking for the disconnect. For the backup camera was replacement for $1800 instead of cleaning or replacing the connector. Very poor diagnosis skills. Just threw parts at the problems. Yes, I am a mechanic. I would not recommend this dealership for service. I have had excellent service at Putnam Chevrolet and Toyota. Most disappointing! read more

Stay away from this dealership, especially the sales managers Max Garcia and Shane Amirkiai. The dealership physically is in awful condition, as are their cars. They leave them sitting outside in tight conditions due to a lack of space, and they accrue damages all over. The second they sell you the car, they become ghosts as to any physical issues over the car. Take a look at their reviews on google sorted by stars, you'll see how many customers complain about their attitudes and sketchy business practices. Ordered a Ford Bronco sport and despite the delays, Bryan and the team were easy to work with and communicative throughout the entire process. Just stopped by there and noticed a new F-250 sitting in the lot. 81k MSRP with a $15,000 dealer markup! Over at the Putnam Ram dealer they've got a similarly marked up Ram heavy duty. I am going to write a quick letter to Ford & Ram to let them know Putnam is among its dealers engaging in unfair pricing. Hopefully that will result in them getting fewer of the in-demand vehicles shipped for their inventory. So sick of greedy companies taking advantage of societal problems for their own benefit. Went in before new years to close out 2021 with something new and they did their best to get me what I'm looking for but because of a recall they were unable to sell me the car so they did their best to compensate and make up for it through a great car deal. Got the new mach e which has a 6 month lead time with no wait, we quickly agreed on the numbers and my salesman Aydin gave me his word the car was mine after they repair the recalls. The day I decided to look for a car I called around hoping to find available inventory because I couldn't wait so I called three dealerships who had a car but only Aydin F took my call and said come on down and we will make a deal. The other dealers had this attitude like they were holding the only car left in the world. I give them 3 stars for doing the job, 1 star for giving a fair deal, and 1 star for the great service. Two sites for Putnam so leaving this review on both. They rock. I recently purchased a Ford F-150 from Putnam Ford and it was easily one of the best vehicle buying experience I have ever had. I was looking for a F150, custom ordered, built to my specs. I built the truck on the Ford site and sent to dealers all over California. The 2021 F150 is in limited supply due to the post pandemic recession not hitting as hard as predicted leaving the supply chain impacted due to higher than anticipated demand. Almost all the dealers I talked with had one song or dance or another on the availability and pricing of my custom order. Putnam was the only dealer to offer no nonsense pricing and clear expectation on delivery. My truck was ordered in April and delivered to me mid June brand spanking new in 8 weeks after ordering. I know of others who have ordered a F150 in March and are still waiting with their delivery dates now anticipated in October. Great job Putnam and Ford! My truck is absolutely beautiful. I love it. My wife even loves it. She isn't a fan of my sports cars, being too low to the ground. Special thanks to Ulysses at Putnam who made it all happen. Great communication, a true profesional. He is patient and very easy to work with. It almost feels weird that you can be stress-free and very comfortable during the process. Oscar is very willing to communicate through email and text, which I really appreciate. I was mostly looking for the ST trim, but Oscar understood what I was looking for and showed me some other trims and configurations that almost swayed me. It's very hard to come by a good car deal without massive dealer markups during the chip shortage, and very few dealerships were willing to negotiate the out-the-door price much. Putnam Ford of San Mateo and Oscar walked me through all my options for leasing and purchasing, while being very transparent with pricing, unlike some other bad experience I had with another dealership. My mother was told last week that a recall operation on her escape would take 15 minutes to an hour once they got the vehicle to a mechanic. Well 5 hours later with an appointment she went and picked it up. When she dropped it off, she spoke to Dianna Romero a "service advisor" who told her that she'd get a shuttle driver to drive her home... After an hour my mother asked about it and Dianna said oh "the shuttle drivers were in San Francisco and won't be here today"... When it was time to pick up the vehicle, another service representative gestured to my mother to come to the counter and finish up the paperwork. Dianna interrupted and told her to wait in line as people were waiting, there was no one at the time waiting to be helped at the desk and then she called my mother the wrong name minutes after getting it correct. I'm hoping this was a one off and Dianna was having a bad day, and I hope her day got better but my mother has been to this dealership twice now for recalls, and both time has not had a smooth experience. The last time was a recall on something involving the entertainment system, it needed an update. The update didn't apply and her vehicle was at that dealership a week. The first time she was apologized to for all the delays and thanked for her choosing of their dealership. They said they hoped that they could make up for it in the future but I'm not seeing that. I'm giving this place 2 stars because the other service rep is a gem, Dominic I think is what his name is but he shows great customer service and respectability towards others. read more

I contacted Kevin in the service department about my airbag light being on in my E450. He set up a time to meet with me. He used his diagnostic computer to assess the issue, which was a loose wire. Kevin fixed the wire connector and retested to ensure all had been cleared, which it was, including my airbag light. Kevin was courteous and explained what he did, before he did it. No surprises. I will be bringing my other Ford there in the future for my service needs. read more

Just got off the phone with some a$$ hole that try to sell me a cancelled order Maverick for 5k on top of the MSRP. When I told him about my Maverick order that I placed in November and that I received and email to remove some features that I might get it earlier. He also mentioned that when my order comes in that if someone has a higher offer that they will sell it to them instead of contacting me that my order is ready. He also mentioned that all of the Ford's do this. I know not all do that because I went to a few in the South Bay and they all say that it's an order and it's not for purchase. Had a dead battery and wanted to have the battery replaced and basic diagnostics run to ensure there was not a more extensive electrical problem. Set up an appointment online for 10 a.m. Dropped off the truck at 9:50 and was told there was a "minimum service fee of $220" - seemed excessive for a battery replacement but since I wanted the diagnostics, I was ok with it. (But still don't understand why they don't disclose this fee on their website.) I was told it would be ready by 3. Called at 3:10 to confirm the truck was ready, but after several attempts still didn't get anyone from service on the line. I was told they would leave a message and someone from the service department would call me back. Having heard nothing by 4:15, I went to the shop to pick up the truck. Not ready would have been a sufficiently bad outcome on its own, but it took them half an hour to locate the work order, paperwork, and determine how many times they dropped the ball while my truck sat unattended for six hours. No explanation, no apologies, no effort. I jumped my truck, drove to Costco, bought a replacement battery, and installed it myself. The whole process took less than an hour and half, and save me the $220 minimum fee for what apparently passes for service at Putnam. Save your time. Save your money. Go someplace else. read more

Made an appointment a week ahead of time to repair my non-functioning A/C on 2006 Ford truck. Dropped car off at 7:30 am. It's now 5:00 pm, and I haven't heard anything from the service dept. I called twice and the operator could not connect me with anyone in service, not a service advisor, not a service manager, no one. I asked for the general manager, and was connected to some unknown person's voicemail. What a horrible display of customer service. i had told the advisor that I needed the car back for a vacation trip down south tomorrow. Still no word. I'm going to have to walk down to the dealership to get a response before they close. Do they expect anyone to return after such abominable service???? Day Two of Truck Hostage Crisis: Don't be deceived by Putnam's very easy to use online appointment system. It doesn't mean your vehicle will be inspected or repaired at the time of the appointment, or at any time on the day of the appointment. It is Day Two of Putnam's custody of my truck, and after 4 calls to the Service Dept. there still isn't anyone there who will pick up. The very nice operator whom I've spoken to on all 4 occasions told me that she isn't in the same building as the service dept., she's actually at her home wherever that is. She said no one in the service dept. is answering the phone, or responding to her messages. She doesn't know how to reach them. What kind of idiot set up this system? I asked if the only way that I can talk to the service dept. is if I walk all the way down there and appear in person? She thought that would be the only way. read more

Beware of this dealer. The sales guys are great but the service department needs to be fired. Sergey refused to give me a rental or loaner when my truck is a year old and constantly kicks in and out of gear. Said we need to diagnose first to see if it's under warranty. They had the truck for 2 days and didn't even look at it cause or a short staff issue. If they knew they were short staffed why even take on more cars? Lost 2 days of work, had to call for updates. Most of the time they wouldn't answer the phone and just hang up after a few rings. Who pays my loss of wages? To say Sergey was unprofessional is an understatement. They could care less and didn't even think once to put them selves in the customers shoes.
