Putnam doesn't sell used KIA EV and I ended up buying a 2 year old EV elsewhere with 7950 on the odometer. As the car is still under warranty, and it was coming up on 8000 files, I contacted Putnam Kia to schedule it first maintenance and perform a recall that was outstanding. I originally went to the website and noticed they had the option to schedule online which I went ahead and did. Got a follow-up email and text of the person, Maddie Nelson, that someone would be following up. A few days past and no follow up. I decided to call to confirm the appointment. The person who answered was very professional and confirmed there was no appointment. Surprised, I asked was there a Maddie Nelson who worked there. She replied no. I asked does this dealer use AI. Yes, she did and stated I might have left incorrect information. I went ahead and reschedule the appointment for later the same day as but a little later as my original time was no longer available. A follow-up text later stated AI had thought I was a sales call and routed me elsewhere. Strange, a sales person not following up? Onto the service. Brought in the car. Service Advisor is professional and efficient. Went though everything so there I understand the process. The 8000 maintenance calls for tire rotation. It's not included and runs $80. Passed on the $50 to decontaminate the cabin filter. They also performed an EV multipoint inspection, which gave measurements on the brake lining and tires. There was also a part used called window wash which ran a couple of bucks listed. The car checked out, and I was told it was in good condition. The car was purchased last week. The selling dealer did a 150 point inspection, which included the windows washer fluid. Just before I took possession of the car, they were showing me the frunk as a tech was filling the washer reservoir. Took about a gallon and a half and filled to the cap. We had driven 175 miles before taking it in and didn't use much washer fluid in that time. Was this one of those automatic charges they do? I called the service advisor and mentioned my concerns. He said they use a tablet and distilled water for the washer as part of their work. He also followed up with a texted picture of the tablet. This would mean they had to drain what was in the washer reservoir, before putting in the tablet and distilled water for $4.25. You can judge for yourself whether this was the case. read more

On January 16th, I went to Putnam Kia to drop off my Sportage for service. After the service procedures, I went to the sales department to look at the EV9 model, which I have been considering for a long time. After waiting outside by the car for a long time for someone to assist us, I went inside and asked if someone would be helping us. A woman working there, who I assume was in sales, told me to wait and that someone would come. We went back outside and waited again for a long period. When no one showed up, we felt very neglected and unwelcome. This wasn't the first time; I faced the exact same situation when I was looking to buy my Sportage, which led me to purchase that vehicle from San Jose instead. When I went back inside, I saw three people chatting--two who I assumed were sales representatives and one who appeared to be a manager. It seems that when going to Putnam Kia, you need to wear a suit and expensive accessories, and perhaps, if your skin tone is dark like mine, you might need to use some whitening makeup to get noticed. This was my second bad experience there. I must clarify that I don't feel the same way about the service department; the staff there are quite helpful and polite. I just wanted to let you know. Car was ready within the estimated time period and they also provided a car wash and vacuumed the interior, which was a pleasant surprise! In the waiting area, there is coffee and pastries. First let me say there's something fishy about this extremely high score on Yelp . This car dealership is the same old thing. A long email dialogue that results in them finally sending you a PDF of the sticker showing the price. Then after a couple more exchanges they reveal that the price is actually $8,000 higher than the price they sent you. Then when you tell them, no thanks, just like if you were sitting there in the showroom dealing with sales people in person, the email voice refers to his boss and how fair a person his boss is. Even by email the salesperson can't sell you the car. Then when you say no thanks again, the salesperson asks you to send them some numbers and they will talk to the boss. I started this endeavor on CARS DIRECT and got promptly directed to Putnam among several others. I'm just thankful I didn't have to speak to these people face to face or on the phone. Why must buying a car always be the most unpleasant experience in one's adult life? I only buy brand new cars, and every experience has been the same. Putnam is no different. And I have to admit, it's a lot less agonizing by email than sitting there watching some guy keep disappearing to a back room and coming out with another slip of paper with "some numbers" written on it. read more

This review is about the Service Department of Kia Putnam. I've had two experiences with the service department. The first was an oil change and to patch a tire. Cost and Time? Almost 6 hours to complete and almost $600. They didn't even have time to wash the car like they said they were going to. Never again. Today I took my 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid in for service because I got a notice in the mail about a potential Water Pump issue. That part was free. However, I noticed recently that my MUFFLER was leaking water. When I looked under the car, I saw a hole that was blackened leaking water. This was on the left side of my muffler. The service person told me to send my pics to his email, and so I did. He then told me that it would cost $440 to do a diagnostic to the car. WHAT?! I said- NO THANKS. To which he immediately dropped the price to almost half... $250. I still said no thanks as I told him a muffler wouldn't show up on a computer diagnostic. Then he walks me OUT of the service conclave and tells me that he'll have his guy do a diagnostic at no cost just to see what's going on, and he'd let me know. I agreed and left to have them do their service. In the meantime, I looked up my make/model of car with pics of the muffler. Turns out the "hole" is a weep hole designed for water to escape when there is condensation. I was not the FIRST person concerned BY FAR. I saw many entries on both the Kia-Forum.com site and Reddit. It's NOT a problem. How many people is Kia Putnam arbitrarily charging to LOOK into a potential issue that isn't even an issue? What about the person who really doesn't know cars? For this guy to immediately drop the price in half (practically) is absurd. $440 was absurd... and $250 is absurd. Their technicians and service department SHOULD KNOW about this concern that Kia owners have based on the number of comments and pics I saw online. BE AWARE and do your research because Kia Putnam will likely JACK UP THE PRICE on their service just because they can. Again- almost $600 and 6 HOURS for an oil change and to patch 1 tire (nail hole). Ridiculous. read more

Brought my car in for 60,000 mile service costing $2,500, only to have my oil light go on after  2 miles of driving. Took it back the next day and was asked if I had an appointment, after realizing that was not a joke, I made one for the following week. They looked at it and said they checked their work and was not the reason for the oil light and asked if I want to pay to have them look into it. I wound up taking it home and parking it. I rented a car for the next month since I had some pressing issues to take care of. I did trying looking possible reasons and solutions online, finding nothing that seemed to explain my situation. I finally decided to spend some time trying to figure it out. I removed the oil filter housing cap and immediately saw that the filter looked to be in bad shape, as if it they never replaced the old filter, but as I removed the filter I noticed that it was the wrong filter. I'm still shocked at how the dealer used the wrong type of filter, but not shocked that they didn't notice it when they supposedly"checked their work". I should also note that initially they told me I needed new brakes according to their measurements, measurements that seem to change with every visit to their facility, all showing breaks were fine accept for that initial one. I can't imagine this was a one off mistake, but clearly the place is full of crooks. If you go, go at your own risk. read more

Went in on a Thursday, found my car, they ran my credit score and gave me finance numbers and they were supposed to give me some more numbers on Friday so I could lease. No call Friday, no call Saturday. I called twice and messaged once on Sunday, no return call or message. I go to the dealership on Monday and the car is gone with no heads up that someone else was interested. I would have walked out with the car on Friday if they would've sent me the numbers. This is not a review about their customer service (in fact they were very nice and friendly). However, the service department is NOT HONEST and will try to add on unnecessary services. I brought my car in for service and asked so specifically for the required service per KiA. I assumed they were being honest and agreed. Afterwards I learned they had included several service items that they "recommend" but are not required by Kia. They charged me nearly triple what it should've cost me. My Kia Soul's engine seized on El Camino in Redwood City and after a few days of figuring out what to do I found Putnam Kia ( which didn't exist when I purchased my car) I was lucky Kia opened a dealership and service center in Burlingame! I called and spoke to Cristal in the service department and she took care of my Kia and the entire process of having my engine replaced! I have a Kia Telluride which I never had problems with except lately at 2.7 years old that it suddenly stopped while I was at a stop sign. The engine just shut-off. I pressed the start button several times but it won't start. It took about approximately 8 minutes before it started back. Imagine my horror and anxiety having a 2.5 yo in the back seat plus several cars behind me honking their horns. I then immediately looked for a Kia Dealership with a service center. The nearest to my area was Kia in Serramonte but they do not have any available appointments. I was able to book one but not after 2 days. I then remembered passing by Peninsula Ave. and remembered seeing a new Kia dealership there. The lady who picked up the phone named Leticia was attentive and cordial. i explained the problem and with a toddler is tow, I was wondering if there was a same-day appointment available. she put me on a brief hold and told me if I can make there that morning. Without thinking twice, we zoomed straight to the place. I was greeted by a very friendly man named Jeremy Marquez. He then got his clipboard and asked me about the vehicle. We were then led to their very clean waiting are that was well stocked with milk, tea and coffee. I was told that they will have to diagnose my vehicle and then will get back to me when it's done. I decided to go to work and Mr. Jeremy called us a Lyft at their expense. He was very nice and helped me carry a moderately heavy car seat. He also waited with us by the front door and stayed until the Lyft service arrived I went to work and it was getting late at 3pm so I decided to give them a ring to ask if the car would be done that day or should I get myself a rental. I was advised that Mr. Jeremy is currently with a customer and he will call me back. At around 4:10pm, I got a call that my Telluride was ready for pick up. Again, I was greeted by Mr. Jeremy and he said there was nothing wrong with the vehicle as per the technicians. I might have pressed the Auto Hold button which causes the car to shut down - I am familiar with the Auto Hold feature and I am not sure if that was it but I am just glad that everything is ok . They were also able to take care of the recalls and corrected it. The curtain hooks that were broken in the passenger side was fixed at no cost - Yay!!! Thank you, Mr. Jeremy, you were so helpful and awesome. I hope that all service people are like you! You are greatly appreciated and I hope that you are still there should I have an issue with my Telly. Keep up the great work, Putnam Kia :) read more
