Restaurant, in itself, reminded me of a somewhat higher end OCB but more vegetarian friendly. The food selection was vast but I could tell that some items at the salad bar were not fresh and as a company that is known for their salad bar, this could be looked into. I also enjoyed their hot bar items but was slightly bothered by their mac and cheese. It was spicy but they failed to note that anywhere. Don't get me wrong, I love a little chili in my food but it didn't help that I had a 2 year old there that loved Mac and cheese, but was unable to eat it. Overall, I feel the place deserved the stars that I gave. It was good but not great. And of course, there is always some room for improvement. read more

Somehow, this place is still just as awesome as it was when I was nine. Power Rangers, Mall Madness and Bubble Tape haven't passed the test of time with quite such flying colors. Now that we're adults, however, there are a few things to remember when making the trek Edinaward for a fun and food filled afternoon-- 1. Wear several layers of elastic waisted clothing. That way, as you start to get full, you can cool off and extend salad storage all at once! 2. Skip ONLY the meal prior to the one you'll be eating at Q.Cumbers. That way, you'll be hungry enough to boost performance, but not so hungry that you'll shrivel up like Betty White in that Snickers commercial. 3. Salad bar side is pretty normal fair with standard salad bar veggies, fruits, and dressings. Soups are average but nothing to write Yelp about. Bread is a little less than Panera level. Desserts are Old Country Buffet like. If you're looking for soup, salad, and bread, I actually think Olive Garden does a better job taste wise minus the multitude of options and $3 less. Let me tell you, I'm ALL about buffets. I love loading up my plate with steak, potatoes, mac and cheese....but on rare occasions, I will crave salad. Lots and lots of salad. And when I do, that's when I go to Q Cumbers. For $10.50 (after discount), my roommate and I ate more vegetables than we do in a typical month. The huge salad bar is full of fresh ingredients, and I was actually overwhelmed by the sheer amount of dressings available. At least 10 types of oil and vinegar (white balsamic!), creamy dressings (yum, Parmesan peppercorn), and a hot bacon mustard dressing?! Pure salad heaven. Hot food on Friday was make-your-own-fajitas -- I didn't actually make full fajitas, but the rice and beans were pretty good. Soups were hearty, and the breadsticks are a better version of Olive Garden's breadsticks (which have gone way downhill in recent years). Finally, the dessert bar...I only wish I had saved enough room! The soft serve is so creamy, and of course there are plenty of toppings so you can make your own sundae. Service was excellent - greeted at the front door by smiling workers and a lady, who I think is one of the owners. There are a LOT of families and kids running around, but overall the people eating here are okay. Best salad bar in town. The kitchen is clean and the restaurant is spotless. The bathrooms are discussing. No one cleans them. It has been this way for 15 years. I've complained before but nothing changes. This is why I give 3 stars. Bonnie, the server, is my favorite person! My sister and I always request her section and she is such a breath of fresh air. We were looking for a really good salad bar and this delivered. Plenty of options : 3 types of lettuce, lots of veggies (all preservative free), seeds/nuts, cheese, many dressing choices including hot bacon and oil/vinegar. There were peppers of all colors, mushrooms, beets, carrots, edamame, garbanzo beans, hard boiled eggs, bacon, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, and several cold pasta/potato type salads,...etc. If you are looking for exotic items you won't find them here but there is still plenty to chose from. The bakery section had rolls and bread along with several kinds of soup. Hot food section : I had a piece of rosemary baked chicken that was delicious. I can't speak to the rest of it. The dessert bar had soft serve, jello, fruit and toppings. Considering entree salads are $10-15 at most restaurants, I think $13.25 is reasonable even if you just come for salad. If you are looking for a good salad, you won't be disappointed. If you are wanting more hot food items, you might be? Still worth a trip! My friend and I enjoy Q Cumbers. We've made a trip to it at least once a year when my mom comes back to MN to visit. They have a much nicer buffet than most places. Yes, you're still going to be a fat ass if you stuff your plate full of whatever; however, I feel that you will be less fat than if you pile your plate at Old Country Buffet. But this is just a feeling, and regardless of the facts, this is what I'm going to keep telling myself. Their salad bar has way more variety than your average buffet. I went to here for Sunday brunch. I have to say that it was pretty decent for 11.99. This by the way DID include beverages, which is great! They had a buffet of salads, which was fresh and in great variety. Then they had a fruit/desert bar which I never made it to, since I ate too much of everything else, but it looked delicious! They had a warm buffet of fajitas, which was ok. Nothing to brag about, but not disgusting. It is serve yourself, so the service was fine. :) I will go back to check out a day without the buffet. Summary of what's below... don't do the brunch buffet but try the weekly buffet if you want to pack it down cheaply... The brunch buffet will leave you sorely disappointed. We were mainly went to experience some delicious Belgian waffles promised by the advertising. I'm pretty sure they just de-freeze these and serve. I didn't even understand how their french toast could possibly be deemed french toast... are ya kidding me!? What's sad is that this place is huge and laid out well. I wish they'd invest in some higher quality chefs and up their prices a bit. They'd have people lining out the door... The hot bar was decent. The rice was alright. I guess I sort of liked the eggs. Though they weren't anything special. The sausage? Awful. The bacon? THAT was actually pretty good! The Zuchinni dish was just wrong... :( I did enjoy the potato dish, though. It was alright. If you've ever had a REAL brunch buffet (Santorini for instance...) there is noway you could possibly plunk down $25 and feel good about your choice. I will say on the other hand that it's fine for a regular buffet. If you can find their coupons and save yourself a couple bucks... it's somewhat worth it. :) When we went here on a Tuesday afternoon, the selection was pretty decent. High quality salad bar with lots of variety. They also offer some hot items, soups, and desserts but these are not the reason to eat here. It is all about the salad. The restaurant is clean and always busy. The waiters are very nice and attentive -- remember to tip them a little even though it is a buffet. It is a great place to bring kids and get them to eat their vegies with an ice cream or pudding reward at the end. It is ok for them to make some noise and just be kids at this place. Rachel and I chose a spur of the moment place to try out in Edina. Boasting a vegetarian/ vegan friendly buffet sounded like a perfect place to add to our roster of favorites. With knowledge of the place having an extensive salad bar, we decided to check it out. When we walked in, we were initially in awe over the airy brightly lit restaurant. We were immediately greeted and the price was standard for a buffet. When told to pick a seat, we were confused of the layout, feeling like mice in a maze with seats and divider walls catacombing the place. After we picked a seat, we went to the buffet line and were quickly underwhelmed at the selection. For a salad bar, there was a reasonable variety but if you're looking for a legitimate salad bar restaurant, you're better off walking a little further to Jason's Deli. Picking from 4 types of greens and then a handful of vegetables, you find yourself staring at a huge selection of vinegars with plain black and white labels. I would say the food was bland but hey, its a salad. But when I went to smaller hot dish area, that food would be considered bland. Looking online, there was a list of +30 different kinds of soups we were excited to try at least of few but only met with 4 that day. Soups themselves were really watered down and even separated in a very strange way. Honestly after trying everything, it felt like eating hospital food or something in a nursing home. Considering the decor, it felt like a senior living cafeteria...except I wouldn't advise bringing your grandparents there. Overall we had high hopes for Q. Cumbers. If you're looking to eat an all-you-can eat salad bar, its a good choice. If you're looking to eat a great all-you-can-eat salad bar, Jason's Deli is just kiddy cornered in the parking lot. I'm giving two stars because the atmosphere was decent and everyone was kind. Plus the cookies were amazing but probably store bought. For some odd reason, my co-workers really love this place and I whine up eating here more than I should. It is an essentially a really NICE/BIG/Clean salad bar. The menu is VERY limited if you don't really care for soup/sandwiches. They might have 2-3 major hot items. Unless your kids likes salads(I don't know that many - okay NONE), it is NOT a really good place for kids. Lunch on the weekdays are usually $8-9 - that includes all you can drink beverages(sodas, tea, coffee, etc). You also get free desert: i.e. low fat ice cream yogurt, bake cookies, etc... The true gem of this place is the soup. I love their Parmesan Chicken Soup - AMAZING. Their soup looks like it is freshly made with REAL vegetables: i.e. they use dice tomatoes and onions in their chili. I give it a 3 out of 5 stars because...It is a salad bar! Beside making sure you have lots of choices, how can you screw this up?! There is NO chef involve here... I might give it a 4 star if it has more 'hot' food for my kids to choose from. I will be honest, it fits the Minnesotan's mentality to be 'healthy', etc... For my $9 lunch buffet, I rather eat at 98 pounds in Bloomington. My kind of buffet! If you are looking at going here for a low-cal option - it is better than chinese but I am not sure if you are that far ahead in the race. The selection is amazing...the quality of the vegetables and the upkeep of replenishment was good. The selections were very diverse... lettuce/spinach, meats, cheese, toppings, dressings... all endless. It even had a dessert bar also (insert calories here). It was a tad spendy in my opinion for salad... but not horrible. If you want mass quantities of low-quality food at decent prices, this is your place. Those who refer to this is a "healthy" alternative really should do some research on what healthy food is. Salad bar options were average, not particularly fresh and the cheese looked processed and disgusting. I'm guessing most of the food in this place comes out of a Sysco bag or can. Bagged cheese, canned fruit, bottled dressings - all looked and tasted flavorless. Hot food looked equally gross. A pile of uniformly shaped hamburgers, clearly pre-made probably frozen patties, probably canned veggies, sad looking baked chicken. The rice and beans tasted decent, but it was filled with butter and salt. The only standout was the soup. I had the chicken pozole soup, which was actually quite delicious. I've been to several of this type of restaurant all over, so I was happy to see a salad buffet to help offset the heavy foods I eat when traveling. The price was a nice change, the drink was included not extra as I am used to. The salad buffet choices were the standard fare, the dressings we the usual suspects. The did identify gluten free items clearly (not my issue but I know it is important to many). The soup bar was sub-par for me, only 4 choices. My local spot has 6 or 8. Only i pasta option an it looked blown out and the sauce looked insipid. They have a "hot bar" which had some chicken, pot roast, potatoes, and corn. They also offered some roasted squash and sweet potatoes. The worst item was a spinach "risotto". It was more like a spinach pilaf that was very watery. I didn't explore dessert options as I had great options at my hotel room already. All in all it is a good place if you want a salad, but i you want much more look elsewhere. read more

I like this place because it does have a large salad bar. When what I want is salad this is the place that I head, if what I want is a big plate of dinner type food I do not go here. I'm not a fan of their "hot" bar, bland and lacking comes to mind. I do like their bread and cookies and am a fan of the frozen yogurt. As far as buffets go, Q Cumbers' is about as good as you can get. As other reviewers have said, it's like an upscale Old Country Buffet. The atmosphere is generally pretty nice, with waitstaff carrying your plates away with a smile and refilling water glasses instead of mousily busing your table with a blank face. Even on busy Sunday afternoons, the tables seem to be arranged so that the inevitable crying kids aren't nearly as nerve-wracking. The atmosphere is fine until the sun goes down, and then it seems less and less appealing. DISCLAIMER: That's probably just me...not necessarily anything Q Cumbers' is doing wrong. It's not a date place. It's a family place. The food is okay. The salad bar is excellent, but their other offerings are just okay. If you're not in the mood for tacos and/or Mexican rice, or some mish-mash of meat and vegetables, then you're probably going to be disappointed with their main course offerings...I usually am. My kids love the place. They can fill their plates up three and four times, something they can't do at other family restaurants. And of course there's the dessert area. Sundaes done the way you want them, with all the fixin's...that's what the kids REALLY love. All in all, it's not a bad option. It may seem expensive, at almost $9 per adult, and each kid costs 70-cents per year of their age. So my 10-year-old's meal is $7.00 (do you like how I can do the basic multiplication required by Western society? I'm a Mensa candidate, folks, mark my words). And when you think about a non-buffet meal at any other restaurant, it's usually $9 for one entree, and that's not counting salads or dessert. So it all evens out. Just the same, and this is just me and my sometimes-crotchety personality, I usually find myself impatiently waiting for my kids to finish their supper after about 30 minutes. read more

Our family has many memories in dubious small town chain buffets, so it's a rare delight to find one that uses the format's potential and avoids the missteps. Folks of every health preference can fill a plate here. The salad bar is epic--I enjoyed the specialty vinegars. Soups are often creative (e.g. cactus leaf, artichoke). The hot proteins & starches are relatively few but always fresh, high quality, and clearly labeled. The variety rotates between visits. I like Q Cumbers. I do. But this is certainly not the best salad buffet I've been to. Far from. First of all, I find it WAY too pricey for it's offerings. Lettuce, a few toppings, and a nice variety of dressings. It's ok, but I actually prefer Old Country Buffet as far as salad goes. Entrees are scant. I've been to this place three times, and all three times the hot dish offerings were one Chinese style dish, a taco bar, or a baked potato. Where's the meat?? There are more options for bread and rolls than there are hot food. I have not tried the soups or the bread and rolls. The fruit bar is decent. The dessert bar is what you'd expect - soft serve, hot and cold syrup, crumbled cookies, sprinkles, etc. I also find the closing time of 8 PM to be really early. They start clearing out the salad bar around 7:30. NOW, for all you salad buffet lovers out there... if Minneapolis ever gets a Sweet Tomatoes, then we'll talk ;) read more

Doesn't compare to a Golden Corral or Old Country Buffet. The salad bar was fantastic. Many healthy options along with homemade soups. Everything was clean and everything tasted clean as well. $9 gets you 300% of your RDA of every dang nutrient there is. When traveling to Minneapolis, and burned out on restaurant food with their mystery ingredients (probably 40% butter), I crave Q. Cumbers. It is just a big salad bar. But it's quite nice for being just a salad bar. It's certainly not a date place, but all the walls are glass and over-look a pond (or parking lot, depending on which side you are on.) There is precious little meat. I found some chicken over in the burrito stand, which was pretty fatty. But, in fairness, this is probably what meat in all burritos is like. I've just never seen it naked before. I've read other reviews, and I won't deter what they've said. However, there were changes that I didn't expect since my last visit (which has been a while). The salad bar, hot bar, soups, and breads are excellent as always. The changes that disappointed me was (1) Coke products instead of Pepsi products (go ahead but include Coke Zero, please); and (2) pizza instead of fresh mini muffins. Not sure why change 2, but I'm sure it's for the kids that come in. Frankly, pizza can be found at Pizza Ranch buffet, so this isn't a plus in my book. I'm going to safely assume that fresh mini muffins are added to the menu for Sunday brunch.
