Popular Hot Pot spot. Popped into this place last minute before a show at the Shubert Theatre on a Friday night. Without reservations they could only squeeze us in at the sushi bar but we were thankful they were able to accommodate. We didn't have the hot pot (which is what this place is known for) but were very satisfied with their alternative offerings. We started with Japanese Pot Stickers and Crab Rangoon. I had Stir-Fried Udon Noodles with pork. My compadre had the chicken Pad Thai. Everything was good, served fast, and by friendly staff. I hope to revisit this place and try the hot pot soon (next time with a reservation). read more

I absolutely love Q restaurant. Whenever I'm asked about the best place in Boston for hotpot, it's always them! The food is always so fresh. The service is always top tier, as the waiters are very attentive. For example, I dropped one of my chopsticks as I was having dinner last night. I signal the waiter to come over so I can ask him for another pair and he already has some in his hand. I'm like wow how did you know? It's so loud in here. He kindly smiled and after so much experience, you learned the noise they make when they fall. I don't know who is in charge of the music but the playlist is always a vibe! Thanks Q! My first experience here was a very positive one! I had passed by this place with its red awnings for a while and I'm glad I finally made it in. We came for lunch and had a sushi feast. The way the restaurant is laid out allows for little pockets that make our group feel intimate and the decor is really pretty. Our waiter was polite and efficient. We ordered 6 of the special rolls and they were all quite good. The sushi was fresh and beautifully presented and the sushi pizza was unexpected and very yummy. It wasn't inexpensive as our total bill came to $179 before the tip and we didn't have any drinks, but they did have lunch specials with sushi or hotpot that were more reasonable. It did get very busy shortly after we arrived, and that is always a good sign. I would definitely go back! read more

I was in Boston for work and was craving some Asian comfort food like crazy. I yelped this place and decided to try out their hot pot. I was pleasantly surprised. They serve ALL kinds of Asian food: Japanese, Thai, and Chinese. The service was really good and the restaurant is pretty nice inside. They have ipads for you to play with while you wait. I got the beef hot pot in regular beef broth. There was a good variety of veggies and sauces and a good serving of meat which was pretty tender. The only thing I didn't like was the broth had a lot of MSG in it. It tasted good but it's all due to that white, crystally substance. All my coworkers enjoyed their dishes as well: pad thai, a roll and Shanghai chow mein. I didn't get to try anything else so this review is just for their hot pot. read more

When it comes to rainy, cold weather, I always relish the idea of warm soup especially in the form of hot pot! The hot pot here is in a large, shared split pot and you can build-your-own or choose from combos. If you don't want hot pot, they also have regular rice entrees and sushi. Very hip, clean, and loungey restaurant. It might be considered Americanized, but all the traditional options are still available. My eye balls are usually larger than my stomach, so I choose to stay away from the a la carte options. We went for the *Beef and Lamb* and the *Surf and Turf* (scallops, flounder filet, shrimp, squid, mussels, beef and lamb) for $21 each. We then opted for the Mala broth ($5) and basic beef broth (no charge). Each combo comes with an assortment of veggies (including enoki mushrooms) and a choice of rice/ noodles. The selected combos were perfect between two people! Both broth options were pretty herbal, but the mala was annoyingly oily. It also had way too many floating chilis for my liking. It otherwise was of a manageable spicy level for someone who has a very low (but building!) tolerance. The beef broth was solid and you can flavor it to your liking since they give you a long plate of at least 6 seasoning items (e.g. garlic, parsley, spicy oils, etc). Extremely satisfied regardless of any oily broth problems. We experienced maybe a 15 minute wait on a Sunday night at like 8:30pm, so it was a solid choice! read more

We came here based on the positive reviews, and while the service was amazing, the food was not. The appetizers (fried veggie rolls and shrimp balls) were delicious. For our meals we got a sushi roll (can't remember the name) and my husband ordered the general gau's chicken. About halfway into eating his meal, we noticed a piece a hair wrapped around it. I was sitting across from him and despite me being so far away from his food, I thought it had to be my own hair somehow and just ignored it. But no, it was someone from the kitchen. The second time hair appeared in his food again, I took a picture. Gross. I took a look around and no one was wearing hair nets, not even the guys cooking sushi at the bar in the dining room. Good food, but bad management policy ruined the meal for both my husband and me, on a rare night out to celebrate my birthday and achieve a 'date night' when we are often caregivers for others. 1) "Eat-and-Run" required. The website, reservation site, and restaurant menu do not specify a 90-minute meal time, which was announced to us partway into the meal ("You have six minutes left for your meal, we have a large party waiting for this table"). 2) The above policy is especially absurd for a restaurant that has a complicated hot-pot specialty--ill-explained in the menu--requiring interpretation from an already overworked waiter who gets to it as efficiently as he can--and of course this is a meal that cooks AT the table. In our case, our seating was delayed about 15 min., and we were re-seated after our initial seating (which was blamed on a trainee). The trainee was also blamed for not informing us of our 'eat fast' deadline. 3) Unaware of the pressure to get-in-and-get-out, we made the mistake of ordering appetizers, as well as a variety of ingredients for the hotpot. This put us behind in the deadline that was looming (unbeknownst to us). 4) We would have ordered dessert, but as it was, I had to slurp down the remainder of the soup, leaving my beverage and 1 unfinished appetizer. 5) We noted that people at a nearby table were there when we arrived, and continued at that table without interference, while we were asked to speed it up. Theirs was a larger table. We, while presentable, may represent a somewhat older demographic, and we wondered whether it was a factor. One other review here suggested the same. 6) We did address our concerns with the waiter, and manager. They were polite and genial but maintained that this was the policy; they apologized for the manner of delivery, and were kind enough to 'comp' the meal. They thought the policy was on the website but we came home and looked for it, and could not find it (I recommend putting it in large letters next to the 'Q'). 7) I am writing this with pretty bad indigestion, probably more from the ambiance / environment than the food itself. 8) Despite the manager trying to assuage us after the fact, and regretting the manner of delivery, we continue to feel disrespected by this event, and feel it reflects poorly on Boston and the hospitality of our community. 9) In running a restaurant, it is important to remember that patrons are not commodities, but actual people who are paying good money for a nice meal--not pegs on a board to be moved around and ushered out unceremoniously just to meet a bottom line. If it is a transactional relationship, it is also based on offering more than tureens of soup with a challenge to eat it as fast as possible and move along. If you want to eat here and leave feeling full, you'll probably have to drop over $50 per person. The quality of the meats is slightly better than what you'd get at Hot Pot Buffet right down the street in Chinatown, and you get a larger selection of broths, but all in all I don't think this place is worth the price. I did like the chicken bone broth though - there even was a full piece of bone and goji berries, which I'd never seen any hot pot restaurant apart from the ones in China go to the trouble of putting in. If you want to eat like the Asian locals would eat, go to Hot Pot Buffet and get that all you can eat hot pot with a non-white washed selection of meats and vegetables. read more

I tried the hotpot here. We were two people and seated at something like a bar area and it was very comfortable. We both spoiled our shirts bc it was not easy to navigate. And the price was incredible high. We had a simple selection and it costed like 55 bucks each. I didnt think it was worthed. There is always a long wait. We've been meaning to try Q for a hot second, and finally got in for the dinner rush! The greeter was very kind and accommodating, and invited us to wait at the bar for the table we requested (where I enjoyed one of the best lychee martinis, I might add). The restaurant line grew long and fast, so a reservation is definitely recommended! Typically hotpot racks up a hefty bill, but we were incredibly surprised by the affordability of these dishes. With half basic broth, and half szechuan, we went with the surf and turf combo (accompanied by a bowl of vegetables), and the à la carte pork jowl and salmon. Everything was beautiful, fresh, and light. For two people, this was more than enough food, we finished everything, and were satisfied/full. The reason we're giving this 4 stars instead of 5 was a lapse of judgement on our part. I understand the broths come with a rating of spiciness visualized by a certain amount of chili peppers next to the menu item, but we wish the waiter had double checked with us that it was something we'd enjoy. We usually enjoy spicy, but this particular broth was so spicy that we found it inedible and distasteful. Other than that, we have no complaints! This was amazing. It's been a couple of months so I can't remember exactly what we had but here goes. The hotspot! Wow! We got the veggie one with vegan broth (a couple of the broths are vegan). This is a massive amount of food for 2 people. I think it can easily feed 3-4 hungry people. We got the veggie fried rice on the waiters rec and it was as good as he said it would be. Also a massive portion. It was my 2 year olds birthday, so the manager himself brought her a complimentary chocolate cake with candles and they all sang to her, she loved it!!! Great service, exceedingly knowledgeable staff, modern space, great atmosphere and delicious food. I really don't think you can go wrong with anything you order here. Mouth watering while I'm typing. This place is awesome, it has the typical fun feel of hot pot and all the ingredients are fresh and delicious. The broths are amazing - I usually get a yin yang bowl with the basic and spicy mala broths. Life hack, you can ask for your extra broth to go and use it as a base for soups at home. There are so many fun ingredients to mix and match. The bok choy, Chinese broccoli, and rice noodles are must haves for me. Friends have also enjoyed menu items other than hot pot. The waiters have always been knowledgeable about gluten free options (most of the broths are gluten free). The pricing is reasonable and the service is pretty good (it often gets busy, which can also cause a wait). Overall an awesome place, and I always look forward to going back. read more

About 5 minutes later the host came by and said she would like to offer us another table outside the bar area (she heard me say I wasn't happy about the bar stool table). Forced to leave after not following 25% capacity set by the state of Massachusetts. Kept sitting people next to us. I walked up to the host stand and ask to speak with a manager. They told me that a manager wasn't there right now and they would give them a call. I waited about 5 mins, the host came back and said the manager would be on there way back. I asked our server for boxes as we didn't feel comfortable anymore. No manager came to our table nor did they say anything. Server was very nice and said I'm so sorry. I have tweeted the commonwealth of Massachusetts, the city of Boston, the Boston police department and all new stations in Boston. This place was great! When we came the place looked busy but we were told that the wait was only 10 minutes. They have a bar where you can sit and order drinks while you wait. We were seated quickly. Our server helped explain the hot pots on the menu and what people usually order together. When the hot pot arrived he explained to us how long the food cooks for and suggested that we dip the meat in their special soy sauce which made it taste amazing! Everything was amazingly fresh! Had the hotpot and ordered a premium beef platter, mushroom platter, seafood platter, and more. The server recommended the MALA soup for spicy and Tonkatsu for non spicy. The broths were perfect- not too salty yet still flavorful. However, if you enjoy eating your hotpot with rice, this is not quite the place. Their A5 wagyu which was delicious- swish it around the pot for a few seconds and voila! I went for a special occasion with my son and daughter in law several weeks ago, and as I'm trying to see if there are any reservations tonight for my anniversary I thought I'd write a review. This is one of the best restaurants I have been to and I call myself a foodie both because I cook and I like going out to good restaurants. From the servers to the valet to the quality and timing of the food, every aspect of the experience was perfect and professional. We went early and by the time we were getting dessert every table was filled. The omakase seafood was worth every penny and I have to say the toro tuna was so good I am still remembering it weeks later.
