An elevated Chinese food spot. I was craving soup dumplings one evening so we stopped here for dinner one night with our pup to sit on the patio. The soup dumplings ($14) are REALLY delicious. The Beef Chow Fun ($26) is also really great and comes in a huge portion. The interior looks absolutely luxurious. Staff are very friendly :)
I hosted my 30th birthday party here and I don't think it could have gone any better! Seemless booking for 14 and we were stationed in a room above the restaurant which was gorgeous! Attentive service and fast food and drinks! Everything came out hot and perfect!!!! This was my second time hosting an event here but my first time with such a big group! We were able to split the check evenly which I informed my guests of before hand! I couldn't imagine hosting anywhere else!!! This is the best restaurant in Austin !!!!
I dunno whatsamatter with me but I apparently have failed to review Qi (pronounced Chee) before now. Perhaps because we are always visiting in transit through Austin. We've dined here for lunch I think five times now. And we will NEVER visit Austin w/o a stop here. LOL. Our server on our first visit was Danny and he again attended to us this visit this week. He is absolutely wonderful. He is managing this store now. This is one of the most enjoyably attractive restaurants ever as you can see from all the pics here on Yelp. Qi's dumplings are on the upper levels of heaven side of divine. Try the shrimp har gow dumplings. The egg drop and hot and sour soups are exceptional. We love the salt and pepper shrimp but this week we splurged for the Honey Akaushi Beef at lunch. Oh my word. Fork-apart tender cubes of savory beef with grilled onions in a honey, black pepper sauce to die for. It will be a challenge to considerer ever looking at the menu again as long as the kitchen is doing this dish. Qi has the most wonderful chopsticks. They're beautiful and so enjoyable to use. I bought two pairs our first visit and I take them to use at Chinese and Japanese restaurants here at home! LOL. Free garage parking in the same building. What is not to love about this restaurant?
Came here with a group of coworkers and we sat in a private room upstairs. The ambiance of the whole place is very upscale, and late on a Monday night it was relatively busy. The food was good, could use a little more flavor. The presentation and service were outstanding, and the drinks and cocktail selection was fantastic. Overall, Id say, great place for a corporate function when you are not footing the bill and can try a lot of things on the menu, to find what you like most. My favorites were the duck and flat noodles. Oddly, the restaurant does not have an espresso machine, which was a bummer for some of our coworkers who wanted a little boost after a long day and a filling meal.
Farm to table produce made for a super fresh experience. We were the last seating of the night, so servers were in clean up mode. Kitchen closed prior to the end of our meal. The lighting was a tad dim which made seeing table difficult. Tables are VERY close which made conversations carry from table to table. Salt & pepper shrimp and Mu shu pork were very good.
Delicious food Everytime. Service, however, is hit or miss apparently. Brought my Mom and daughter for their first time for lunar new year. We had mediocre service, less experience based than my first two visits, with little to no conversation or recommendations. We were the only table they dropped to-go boxes for, every other table they boxed their food for them, which was what happened my first two times. Makes it feel less of an experience than normal. They also gave us a desert menu that had 10 ish options and only 2 or 3 were available, which wasn't shared when we asked about desert but only when we were ready to order. Beautiful decorations, louder than normal based on the new year but nothing terrible. akaushi beef, moo shu pork, and salt and epper shrimp all phenomenal. The soup dumplings never disappoint so that's always our first bite. Cocktails took some time but we're always delicious. We will probably be back but might take some time to forget the sun par service.
Qi Austin has serious style -- it's like dim sum went to finishing school and came back with impeccable manners and great taste. We started with the soup dim sum, which was soothing and refined, like a comforting whisper of flavor. Then came the Crispy Sea Cucumber Har Kaw, and wow. Easily the star of the show -- crispy on the outside, tender and shrimp-like on the inside, with a sauce so good I briefly considered licking the plate. (I didn't. But I thought about it.) The duck pancakes were also quite good -- rich, flavorful, and beautifully presented. But while everything tasted fresh and well executed, there was a certain "something" missing to push it into five-star, write-home-to-grandma territory. Maybe a touch more warmth, or just one more standout bite. Still, Qi has its act together -- refined atmosphere, attentive staff, and dishes that make you feel a little fancier than you really are. Four stars, but very solid ones. I'll be back... probably dreaming about that har kaw the whole way there. And be careful, they close from 2:00-4:00!
TL;DR: Great choice if you are trying to impress someone -- pricy but the flavors are out of this world! I would come back. Food: We ordered the Zha Jiang Noodle, Truffle Egg Fried Rice, and Honey Akaushi Beef. + Truffle Egg Fried Rice: I would recommend trying this dish! The truffle smells really good, and the fried rice is quite good too. It doesn't feel oily, and it's just really well done fried rice. + Honey Akaushi Beef: I would recommend trying this dish! It is on the pricier end of $30 for not necessarily a ton of meat, but it is some of the best beef I have ever had. The dish comes out sizzling and smells absolutely incredible. The meat is not tough or chewy: it's super easy to cut into. It's got a nice sweetness to it and is honestly so so tasty! - Zha Jiang Noodle: While tasty, I might not order this dish next time just because I thought it was a little too sweet for me. Service: We went without a reservation but were luckily able to get seated quickly since we went before peak dinner time. The service was friendly and quick. Water was refilled without us having to ask. They were kind enough to pack our leftovers for us too in a container and nice bag. Ambiance: The dim, warm lighting sets the mood and is really easy on the eyes. I like that the ceiling is covered with umbrellas as lights, it's a cool aesthetic. Since we went in October, there were Halloween decorations around the place too which was neat.

Service was good. Sat outside with mist fans so in the summer time on a Friday evening it was tolerable. Truffle fries rice - so smooth. Just like any Asian food it's amazing the next day. I was ok with the truffle shaving on top. I didn't need anymore. It was so silky smooth. Honey Beef- good portion for 2, or one depending on how you much you like it. It was great with the fried rice and especially yummy the day after. Good date night spot. Prices are steep for Asian food but it's downtown swanky 6th. read more

Came here for a friend's birthday. We got a private room which was in a separate floor by itself. Loved the restaurant's decorations especially the low lighting ambiance. For food, I would say it's definitely on the pricier side, but we ended up family styling our meal. We ordered a lot since it was a big party. My favorites were the shanghai soup dumplings, truffle egg fried rice, and mei choy pork belly. The broth from the soup dumplings had so much flavor and the meat was well seasoned. I also didn't expect to like the truffle fried rice. Although it didn't have a really strong taste, the aroma from the truffle paired well with the fried rice and gave it a rich and pleasant flavor. The pork belly was probably the opposite. It was soaked in this delicious black sauce that bursted in your mouth when biting into the pork belly. As for dessert, we ordered every dessert on the menu! I honestly loved them all, but I would say my number one is the matcha dessert. It wasn't too sweet and had a creamy texture. I also recommend to try some of their cocktails, we ordered a couple and they were all really good. Our waiter was very friendly and checked up on us frequently. I really enjoyed my experience here despite it not being a traditional dim sum restaurant. Book a reservation here if you have any special occasion coming up! read more

The thing about dim sum in Austin is that during the week. It's limited menu however From the limited menu Everything was delicious And everything was handmade Even my picky son was eating with us The truffle fried rice was basic but still delicious simple yet delicious A little side note on the restaurant. It's very high tech and modern I was even more blown away when I went to the bathroom Before going on our 3 hour drive to Houston! The bathroom has a bidet, seat is warm, self flush, self re-flushes until everything is done and clean So impressed with everything from the service, food, and even bathroom! Lol read more

Qi is one of my all time favorite restaurants in Austin! The best way to describe is exquisite dim sum and chinese cuisine. As a sister restaurant to Lin's, Qi has the famous soup dumplings that in my opinion make this place worth visiting. I have not yet encountered any other establishment that has great soup dumplings that are comparable to Qi/Lin's. Other items that I liked to get at the scallop caviar Sui mai, honey sesame chicken, and occasionally the har gow. If you are used to normal traditional Chinese dim sum establishments, do NOT expect the same experience here. Expect to pay higher prices and receive good service. If you are looking for a large variety of dim sum items, I would look elsewhere in Austin. During lunch and dinner, the dim sum menu is not as expansive. I would say this makes for a great spot to meet with friends or go on a date. I'm hoping they will open a restaurant in Houston! read more

Traveled to Austin from Houston for a concert and decided we wanted to try dim sum for brunch. We have a lot of awesome dim sum spots in Houston but they are far from where we live so wanted to give this place a try. We were blown away. We came in around 11 AM for Sunday Dim Sum brunch and were seated promptly without a reservation. The inside of the restaurant was clean and welcoming. The decor was beautiful and the service was fantastic. We tried the bok choy, shrimp and eggplant, crispy chicken dumplings, lobster cheese rolls, duck pancake, pork shumai, and egg cream rolls. The entire meal was absolutely delicious. The duck was out of this world scrumptious and the lobster rolls were heaven. We will definitely be back when we're in town again to try more dishes and highly recommend this to anyone looking for quality dim sum. read more

Incredible in every way The food, the service, the decor, the ambiance, the experience - could not be better in any way. The interior is very well decorated, feels like I'm in a fancy Chinese tea house. The service is extremely attentive, our waitress visited our table at least 6 times. The food, oh my gosh. Being a pescatarian, I really missed dimsum as most dishes are meat, but Qi is like pescatarian heaven. We got the Crab Soup Dumplings - will definitely be coming back for these. The meat inside is so soft and the soup is delicious. Every bite was amazing. The Lobster Dumplings were so cute. Like little bunnies. I thought they were well prepared and the wrapper was a great chewy texture. The Scallop Caviar Sui Mai was very decadent. The caviar were like fish flavored popping boba. The Pecan Shrimp was my favorite dish. The shrimp was fried but still so crisp on the inside. The pecan and apple were the perfect compliment to the shrimp. The sauce was light but rich. Came for my birthday and we got a hedgehog for dessert, so cute!! It's a light passion fruit sorbet with ground up beet cookie and raspberry jam. A mixture of delightful flavors and textures. The food here was amazing and the staff was helpful in explaining the different menu items. I had the truffle egg fried rice and shanghai dumplings -- both were really good and the flavors suited my taste. There was no wait time when I visited and the interior was pretty; low lighting but not excessive, and a very welcoming atmosphere overall. For the price I was not wild about it. We did sit outside which probably put a bigger damper on our evening because it was so freaking hot outside. Please sit inside lol. Service was okay. We got the soup dumplings 10/10. Veggie dumplings 3/10. Lobster dumplings 7/10. Beef potstickers 10/10. Pickle platter 8/10. Combo fried rice 6/10. For dessert I got the mango bomb which was very pretty. Presentation was amazing. I wasn't too wild about it and my daughter got this berry dream. It was almost like a macaroon with lemon sorbet. The inside and outside was very clean and trendy. The bathrooms were really nice. I personally wouldn't come back. However I can see this being a cute GNO. read more

LOVED our experience here! We sat outside on the patio with our dog. We tried Shanghai soup dumplings (not as flavorful as I remember their sister restaurant's offering (Lin Asian); Chicken with cashew Dumplings (VERY tasty!); Steamed vegetable dumplings (good but could use more flavors); Sesame Balls for dessert (always a favorite of mine!) BUT what STOLE THE SHOW was the Crispy Chicken Turnovers. I don't know why I picked this one, but SO GLAD I DID! It looked NOTHING like what I expected. I've added a photo.. 3 MICE came to the table! Noodle tails & almond slice ears! SO CUTE!! Apparently whoever owns this restaurant & Lin Asian employ ARTISTS! :) (NOTE: While Lin Asian has a dessert that is an amazing sculpture, it's too disturbing for me to order. Skip the Zha Jiang Noodles (Dan Dan Noodles) Get the soup dumplings, the salt and pepper tofu, the sesame chicken. Skip the tarp chicken eggrolls, just order one Peking duck with extra buns Absolutely get the HAR gow. Upscale Chinese fusion restaurant with beautiful ambiance, but a hefty price tag. I've dined here twice and my opinion hasn't changed much. I've tried a number of dim sum appetizers here and the Shanghai soup dumplings continue to be the best relative to the other options. Although, in comparison with other pork soup dumplings I've had at different establishments, this one falls to the bottom. The dough is too thick and vastly overpowers the under-seasoned filling. $13 for 5 pieces is also on the steep side. The peking duck was acceptable. It came with a pate you spread across the bao for flavor. There are only 3 baos that come with the order so expect disproportionate portions. I prefer my peking duck be wrapped thin pancakes or wraps, but unfortunately they don't offer that here. I much prefer the duck at Bamboo House or Jade at a much reasonable cost with more authentic flavors. The truffle fried rice was very underwhelming. Something that can easily be made at home. The only toppings it consisted of were egg and maybe 2 shavings of truffle. For a restaurant that encourages family style meals, the pork belly was really the only dish that was abundant. Unfortunately, it was doused in a sauce that didn't highlight the protein. The bird nest was probably the best thing that was ordered during this visit. The vegetables were seasoned nicely and the nest it was held in provided a satisfying crunch. For dessert, we got the mango bomb and the fly me to the moon. I found the mango bomb a bit too tart the more bites I took, but fly me to the moon was finished off in a blink of an eye. Overall, if you're looking to spend a pretty penny, there are plenty of other options to choose from with beautiful ambiance and better bang for your buck. If you're looking for more authentic flavors, best to look elsewhere. read more

This was my first time trying dim sum. I'm usually pretty simple so I'll leave a simple review: Overall, food was very good. The place had a nice vibe, slightly on the loud side. I sat at the bar and that was cool watching them make all of the dumplings. Tad pricy but I would return! Chicken Egg Rolls: 5/10 mostly wrapper flavored Beef Bao: 8/10 nice soft buns and great flavors Shanghai Soup Dumpling: 7.5/10 good flavors but just not my type of food Crabmeat Soup Dumpling: 7/10 still good but preferred shanghai Truffle Fried Rice: 8.5/10 very good with a slight truffle flavor. Not overpowering Sesame Chicken: 9/10 my favorite of the items I tried. Very crispy, light batter and good flavor Mango with Lychee center: 6/10 good flavor but I did not enjoy the texture. read more

This is the 3rd location we've been to of the Lin Asian restaurants and all of them have been very delicious. The dim sum soup dumplings are out of this world! For entrees, we had the salmon, pork belly, beef and truffle rice. The standout of the night was the salmon, but they were all tasty! I did not particularly enjoy the desserts. We had the green tea mouse and ice cream with a biscuit shell. They were just ok, I've had much better at other Asian restaurants. The service was great and the restaurant is very upscale. read more

Great vibes, great service, great food. Sat at the kitchen window area. Staff at the window in the kitchen appeared to be a little insecure/nervous as customers watched them prepare the dumplings. We picked this place because brother wanted Dim Sum, but it was a pleasant surprise. Upscale Chinese dishes are served in this farm to table family restaurant. The patio was lovely and we needed the torch heater our server turned on for us! Brrr. So, the dim sum is not trolleyed around in little carts you say yes or no to, but rather is listed on the menu. Most dishes are three to five pieces so perfect for sharing in our party of five. We ordered two of the 3-piece pan fried akaushi beef bao, the lobster dumplings, crab and fish maw soup dumplings, and akaushi beef potstickers which come stuck to a beautiful lacy crispy wonton fan. Every single dumpling we tried was a flavor burst in our mouths. So delicious. I had General Tso chicken with a side of this, gelatinous hot sour soup. The hot was there, but the soup was not sour at all and could benefit from some Chinese dark vinegar. My entree was good, but very bland and the chicken was a little dry. All their batters are cornstarch, so very light. Just not successful with this dish. My daughter had the peppered shrimp and shared; it was sooo good, *that's the dish I recommend! The conundrum is, is it pronounced as Chi or Ki - of course, it should be Chi. This place is fantastic - from the intricate decor of Asian feels to the servers constantly coming in to check if we are okay. We had ordered a bunch of vegetarian and non-vegetarian foods - right from hot and sour soup, to sauteed pea shoots, from dim-sums to dumplings, everything was simply devoured and appreciated, especially their rum raisin cheesecake. read more

Wow!!!!!! Amazing food, amazing restaurant, wonderful service, what more could one hope for? I loved all the dim sum-- their soup dumplings were phenomenal and their hot and sour soup AMAZING. The dessert was a little small and overly decadently artsy for my normal taste, but it was perfect after all the food (may just try a different one next time--I'm sure everything is good)! read more

Had an absolute FEAST at Qi for a team lunch! We all know a picture is worth a thousand words, so I'll let them speak for themselves. However, here's a quick summary of the fan favs: - Soup dumplings (honestly the whole dim sum menu is amazing). - Akaushi Honey Beef (it comes out sizzling!) - Salt & Pepper Shrimp (NOT lobster) - Sesame Chicken (oldie but a goodie) Super friendly staff and if you have a large group, try to get seated at the long executive table when you first walk in! read more

Tried this restaurant based off of a recommendation and it did not disappoint. My husband and I were introduced to soup dumplings and were very impressed! I had the Crispy Wok Shrimp and my husband had the Szechuan Peppercorn Alligator. Both entrees were good but some type of sauce would have been nice for the alligator. This place was amazing!!! The food is incredible and extremely flavorful. I took my family here while they were in town visiting. We were able to get a walk in but it was very busy so I would highly recommend making a reservation if possible. They are famous for their soup dumplings and they were so good we ordered a second round of them. Our server was fabulous and knowledgeable to give delicious recommendations. 7/10 - Shanghai Soup Dumpling, Crab Meat Fish Maw Soup Dumpling - Szechuan Peppercorn Alligator, Akaushi Beef with Green Pepper and Truffle Egg Fried Rice Qi Austin is a modern Asian restaurant located near the nightlife area of West 6th street in Downtown Austin. The decor is very cool and the atmosphere inside is whimsical. Now on to the food, I tried fried Alligator for the first time and I did not like it... it was okay. The beef and rice were flavorful. But I came for the soup dumplings. They're so rich in flavor and hug my soul. The drinks were also so cute & and delicious. I would recommend stopping by for some Dim Sum lunch and drinks! I like Qi more than I like Lin, if that says anything. I think the ambiance of Qi is lovely, both inside and outside. The decor is good, the staff is friendly, and the tables are well spaced. When the weather is good, the patio is gorgeous! The food is also delicious, albeit overpriced. I felt the same way about Lin actually but I felt like the cost was ever so slightly more justified at Qi than at Lin since there are some more unique dishes that I encountered here. The duck pancakes and the scallop caviar shu mai are particularly memorable. They are more unique than the classic shu mai etc you'd get at Lin so I felt slightly less bad about paying $15 for 3 pieces. The pan seared basil chicken dumplings, chicken shiitake shu mai, and soup dumplings were all very delicious, but not any more fancy or special than other dim sum places I've tried around Austin, eg Jade restaurant's. Overall I'm glad I came here cause I wanted to try it; for the service and taste I wasn't upset paying a $95 bill for two people, HOWEVER, I wouldn't go again given the price. read more

This restaurant has really yummy, cute food, mice devor and ambiance, and friendly staff. You can ask the waiter for what vegan options they have as they don't have a dedicated vegan menu, but can definitely male accomodations. My friend likes getting the chicken rats or whatever they're made of. They are super cute! I usually get vegan dumplings or salt and pepper tofu. Super yummy! read more

The service here is always amazing, I love that they have whiskey cocktails Available and they make them well! No, but I would recommend it especially for weekends and Sunday brunch/full dim sum.
Is the restaurant good for large parties?
Yes! They have some pretty large tables. I would definitely call ahead of time and make a large party reservation because they won't do more than 6 people on OpenTable. Great for family style.
