Our server, Zach, was attentive, entertaining, and gave great recommendations. We had the Po-pea jay and the whole market fish. The Po-pea jay was light, refreshing, and bursting with flavor. However, the fish took the spotlight. The meat was soft while the skin was crispy. The watermelon sauce that came with it was bright and citrusy. My bf and I loved the pickled watermelon rinds. Good place to feel fancy with a few good dishes, not a great place to eat authentic Thai food! Thai Tea 3/5 This did NOT taste like thai tea, it tasted like chai or ginger tea! It wasn't bad though. It was sweet, cold, and had a good serving size but it was not thai tea. Mint Lesion 4.4/5 This was surprisingly good! I thought mint and fruit didn't belong together but this is actually a very nice lychee drink. Brussel Sprouts 5/5 This is what I kept munching on throughout the dinner! It was the best appetizer, came with so much, soft with crispy edges, sweet, salty, and spicy. A little too salty at times but very good overall! Calamari 2/5 This calamari was overly salty?! I tried it without the sauce and the salt was just coming through so much. The sauce was a really yummy sweet thai sauce but genuinely so spicy. Raw Oysters 1/5 For the price, I expected large oysters but they came out with these small, thumb-sized oysters :( They were a bit fishy and grainy, very disappointing! The sauce was good though! Fried Shui Mai 4.5/5 Definitely not shui mai! But very delicious, crispy, and the sauce is great as well. Sauce is also spicy! Green Curry 5/5 This was very delicious! Although a bit salty, the rice balances it out. I like this one because of the basil flavor and how the spice is only a hint. Very creamy, very good! Pad Thai 5/5 This was definitely my favorite!!! It was like an elevated pad thai. Very tart, sweet, delicious, umami, and overall just good. Very nice vibe, great place to take pictures, and the workers were very nice!! Seating is a bit strange. My coworker brought us to Sway Thai. A unassuming place that you could miss from the street unless you knew about this place. A decent sized parking lot for guests. The do have some outside seating available but not during Summer, because of the heat. Otherwise, they have full service with heat lamps during the cooler months. But to really appreciate your dining experience, you have to dine inside. The interior is modern and simply decorated with dark oak large tables that makes eating in a large group feasible because you can communicate with one another better as opposed to long tables where if you are sitting on one side, you cannot hear the other person on the other end. A nice family-style dinner Jarrod took care of us. He was professional, attentive, and helpful. The staff members were also friendly and attentive, refilling water carafes, bringing out our entrees, and clearing and cleaning up our dirty dishes. Crispy Pork + Shrimp Shu Mai fermented black bean, kewpie mayo, red nahm jim (4/5). Mixed reviews on this. Most of us enjoy the flavor and the crispy crunchy outside. The dipping sauces were good. Salt + Pepper Calamari: fried squid, nahm prik pao aioli, fermented black bean, thai herbs, lemon (4/5). The golden fry had a nice crispiness to it. Pad Thai: wok fried rice noodles, egg, green bean, tamarind, lime, peanut, choose your protein - chicken (4/5). A good dish. Tiger Cry: char-grilled strip steak, red chili nahm jim, fresno chili, toasted rice, nahm prik pao, thai (4/5). Good beefy flavor. The sauces were delicious. whole market fish (gf) 2 pound crispy fried branzino, watermelon-chili vinegar, green nahm Jim, pear salad, ssam set (4/5). This was the group's favorite. Khao Soi: confit duck, mustard greens, egg noodles, guajillo, coconut milk (4/5). This had more of a red curry flavor than our other dish. Green Curry: roasted chicken, roasted vegetables, roasted vegetables, pablo, serrano (3.5/5). Drunken Noodles: shrimp, rice noodles, soy stir-fry sauce, egg, bell pepper, Gai lan, crispy garlic (4/5). Panang Short Rib Curry: confit short rib, fingerling potatoes, pecan coconut butter, charred green onion (4/5). The flavor was not red curry, but more of a stew flavor. I do not know how I could have managed to living in Austin for so long and not know about Sway Thai restaurant. It is located on Bee Caves Road in Westlake. Yesterday, I was invited there for a birthday party and had an amazing dining experience that feels both elevated and inviting. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere sets the tone...warm, rustic and retreat-like. Think macramé, wood, nature...Sway has both indoor, outdoor and rooftop seating. The birthday party was held in the rooftop area with spectacular panoramic views of downtown Austin. Sway Thai demonstrates exceptional skill in modern Thai culinary preparation. Each dish displayed had flare and vibrant flavors. The menu featured chicken and pork satay, grilled shrimp skewers, fried rice skewers, noodle spoons and large egg rolls, all crafted with care and attention to detail. The specialty beverages were also a highlight, curated by a highly skilled mixologist. These drinks were thoughtfully prepared and pleasing to the palate. The staff demonstrated both attentiveness and expertise, managing to be available whenever we needed assistance with skewers or plates removal without being overly intrusive. As someone who doesn't really like Thai food it took me two times to really like Sway. The first time I came I ordered soup/curry based and in my opinion I wouldn't come here for that. This is a great place for big parties and celebrations. The second time I came I ordered the fried rice and the fried chicken and it was soooo good! I would come back just for that. The drinks here are good. It's group seating so great for big groups but if you are a smaller group do be prepared to sit with other restaurant goers. read more

Interesting large format tables that you may or may not be seated with others. The tables are huge though, and there's ton of seating so chances are probably low unless it's prime time weekend or something. There's also some small tables for the solo or more intimate conversations outside. Dark and dim lighted ambiance, but able to hold a conversation easily here. Reminds me of restaurants in nyc's meat packing district. iykyk Food: don't be fooled by the smallish bowls. The sticky rice can get filling quickly as you mix it with the very flavorful dishes/curry. Everything was a delight and was glad to have finally check this place out. I can see why the son in law is a best seller. Perfectly marinated and not too over the top salty. Kind of wish the prices weren't so high, but maybe cos it's Westlake. For the panang curry, we were a bit worried that it might be too spicy for our little one so our waitress served it with a side of additional coconut paste to tone it down. Great idea! We certainly used some of that and our toddler ate a bit of everything with no complaints. Parking lot is okay, might have to get creative depending on time of night you're there. read more

This will always be one of my favorite elevated Thai restaurants. It is consistently solid, with a polished vibe that still feels fun and approachable. We went during happy hour from 5-6pm, when cocktails are 50% and there is a special food menu. The food portion felt a little strange. It seemed less like traditional happy hour deals and more like smaller portions of their regular appetizers at a lower price. Not a deal breaker, but certainly not a happy hour deal either. For appetizers, the Brussels sprouts were very good and had a nice kick, definitely one to order if you enjoy a bit of heat. The pork rolls were good but nothing particularly memorable. For entrees, the Son in Law is unbeatable and always my top recommendation. It is hands down the best dish on the menu and never disappoints. The crispy chicken, on the other hand, is a pass. There is nothing wrong with it, but for the price you would expect something truly standout, and it just does not deliver at that level. Do not skip dessert. The coconut ice cream is amazing and the perfect way to end the meal. It gets pretty loud inside when they are busy, so going during happy hour or at an odd time is probably the best way to go. Amazing upscale dining experience in a beautiful restaurant! My friends and I had so much fun on our girls night out here. The service was fantastic and the food was phenomenal - each dish better than the last. We ordered: 1. Salt and pepper tofu - the best I've ever had! A must try! 2. son in law - the pork shoulder was cooked to perfection and absolutely delightful! 3. Chicken fried rice. The flavors on this one were out of this world! Generous portions - I enjoyed savoring the leftovers as well! I came here with a group of 7 other girls for a late dinner (8:15pm is considered "late" for me). I arrived first and was pleased to learn I didn't have to wait for a majority or the full party to arrive as is the case with some restaurants. It's funny that I got seated at the same table I ate at my first time dining in! Our server was very patient while the group arrived. We ordered drinks in groups based on when we got there & food all together after the last group joined. For my drink I got the monk water, which was refreshing but surprisingly strong given it is vodka-based. Food came out pretty quickly after that. I got the pork & shrimp crispy dumpling and blue crab fried rice. I shared ONE bite of the mango salad one of my friends ordered. I'm not sure if the cocktail took up most of my stomach capacity or the dumplings were too hearty, but I couldn't even finish half of the rice. Everything was so good though!!! After our meal, our server let us do separate checks and even labeled our takeout boxes inside individual to-go bags. I was so impressed during my first visit to Sway that I decided to host a corporate preset dinner last night for 14 of my team members - and it exceeded our expectation. The mango coconut papaya salad was fresh, lightly sweet, and beautifully balanced. The salt and pepper calamari were fried to perfection with just the right amount of crisp. The star for me will always be the blue crab fried rice with Thai herbs - you can taste the generous chunks of crab, and the flavors are outstanding. The yellow chicken curry was rich and aromatic. Even the seasonal vegetables were memorable, especially the beets paired with a delicious cream sauce. We ended the evening with the sticky mango rice, which was heavenly - a perfect finish. Hosting a preset dinner is truly the best way to experience so many of Sway's standout dishes in a group setting. I didn't try the char‑grilled steak myself, but several team members raved about it. It has been over 10 years since I've been to Sway Thai in Austin, TX. Previously, Sway was near the water in a hip, up and coming area of town with a positive aura and vibe. They are now housed in a stand-alone, sleek, modern building on a major thorough fair. Sway's vibe is still Zen-like with a quieter dining room, dim lights and a soothing feeling. Our waitress explained the menu and how to order. She was very accommodating in making suggestions and describing dishes with different profiles. We are adventourous eaters and dove in with multiple dishes. We started with the salt and pepper fried calimari with fermented black beans, thai herbs, lemon and a nahm prok pao aioli. The crispy rice salad with veggies, peanuts, cilantro and nahm prik pao vinaigrette was different and not a favorite. The brussel sprouts were served with fermented black beans, garlic and sweet soy vinegar. The braised pork shoulder with crispy egg, sweet soy and nahm prik pao was incredible. Our final dish was pad Thai with chicken, veggies, peanuts, mushrooms and tamarind-lime sauce. The calimari was perfectly cooked and lightly battered. The after taste was not my favorite and left me not wanting more. The crispy rice salad had a crispy crunch with a light vinegarette and a bit of an after burn. Again, we were glad we tried but would not order again. The brussel sprouts were delicious and scarfed quickly by the table. The star of the evening was the braised beef over rice with an uncious flavor that left us wanting much more. This dishes is a Must Try at Sway! The pad Thai was a disappointment with dry noodles and a very sour taste. We were excited to return to Sway after all these years. Some of the dishes were fabulous but several were disappointing. The food here is packed with flavor but not necessarily good to us. The price points are higher for the sleek building and after burn is alive and well. The place is really cute - low light and intimate. The entrance has a bunch of flowers and a tiny spirit house for good fortune. I got the raw oysters, papaya salad, and beef fried rice. The oysters were washed well, I wish the sauce was a bit more limey, since it was so sweet. So I prob will skip the oysters next time. The papaya salad was good, just spicy which is normal of the dish so I'd be careful if you're not used to that. And the beef fried rice was amazinggggg, I would definitely recommend it. I tried my friend's pad Thai and it was very strong on the tamarind. Good for a bite but probably overwhelming as a whole dish to yourself. They encourage family style so if you're going that route I would recommend all the dishes I mentioned. I also got a lychee martini and the erawan. I'm not at all surprised why everyone in my office, including our CEO, raves about Sway. I was hesitant to try it at first since its located in West Lake, where diversity is limited and things tend to lean away from the traditional. But, I may have been persuaded to change my mind. First, like most Asian restaurants in Austin, it's no surprise that Sway is Americanized and modern. Due to this factor, it's on the pricier side since you're also paying for quality and presentation. Looking at the menu, I wanted everything (and I'm drooling just thinking about it). My partner and I opted for the Green Mango Salad (aka papaya salad) and was hands down one of the best I've had in a long time-- it was so refreshing! For our entrées, we shared the Son in Law and the Tiger Cry. I'm personally not a big fan of meat, but my partner really enjoyed the Son in Law. We went here for a team company event. From the moment we walked in, the entire service staff was at our back and call. They were walking around, making sure that our drinks weren't empty and that we were having a good time. They passed out the hors d'oeuvres and the bar was stocked. They asked us what a drink we wanted and had a curated menu, which was awesome. The bartenders were super nice and knowledgeable and even happy to make a mocktail. The food was set up buffet style, but you can get this changed if you want. We had booked out the entire restaurant and had a lot of people, so it was a buffet style meal because that made the most sense. They had the green curry, the dumpling, the fried rice, and noodles. They even had a fried tofu which was delightful. All of the food was absolutely delicious. The spice was just right and all of the sauces and curries were just absolutely amazing. The table seating is a bit odd, but once you get used to it, it's fine. It's odd in the sense that the tables are massive and square so you have to share the table with a bunch of people. I don't know if it's like that when you come in for a reservation, but that's how it is when you book the restaurant out. Overall, it was an amazing experience and if you're thinking about booking a restaurant out in Austin, Texas, I would highly recommend this place because the service and the food was just absolutely amazing. oh! Woof, recently went back to Sway and had a very disappointing dinner. For $150, we ordered: a cocktail and a soda, egg rolls, calamari, blue crab fried rice, son in law, and mango sticky rice. Apart from my coconut lime soda, everything was a miss and way overpriced. The egg rolls were greasy, the calamari was shockingly spicy, both of the entrees were unbearably sweet (+ hardly any crab in the fried rice), and the sticky rice was undercooked. We've gotten some of these dishes before and I don't remember them tasting this way. Unsurprisingly, we left a lot of the food untouched by the end of the meal. I briefly entertained the idea of salvaging the entrees by recooking them at home, but quickly gave up when I got a tummy ache from the meal later that night. To end on a more positive note, our server was really nice and packaged the leftovers with great care. Easy online reservations, easy parking, gorgeous interiors. Easily one of my fav spots to take people! The Panang curry is insanely yummy and I love all their fried rice dishes (chicken is my fav). The mango salad is refreshing and perfectly spicy- one of the best appetizers ever! I'm also a huge fan of the tom kha, which is a must-have here. Went for a Monday date night - it was beautiful outside so we opted for an outdoor table. We didn't spend much time inside the restaurant but inside looked dark and vibey. Outside seating area was also vibey. For drinks, I had the house kombucha, there was also a Thai coffee martini and a gin-coconut drink. Everyone enjoyed their options. For plates we all split the green mango salad (not sure why they opt for mango vs papaya but it was very good nonetheless, sweeter than most we've had before), the salt and pepper calamari (very good - not too chewy so definitely fresh), the tiger beef dish (beef steak was cooked beautifully and all the basil was delish as an accompaniment) and finally the beef curry (incredibly flavorful). The mains were served with large portions of white rice and everything was incredibly delicious. We ended the night with the chili infused chocolate tarte. Super rich but couldn't taste the chili - the flake salt was definitely present sprinkled on top but no heat. Service was friendly and not too intrusive which is always nice.
