Green peppercorn soup base
My K.

Green peppercorn soup base was the main reason we came to try this place. The pics I took don't really do it justice here, but it was aromatic and tasted great. The soup was less oily than I thought, which made it easy to drink the broth and enjoy it. I was surprised that they have sneakhead fish, one of my fav. My friend particularly liked their pumpkin slices. The service was friendly and nice. One area for improvement: the ribeye steak slices were cold and stuck together, making them difficult to separate.

Sichuan Malatang Classic!

Had the pleasure of trying this restaurant out the other day, I love spicy food so I tried their classic Szechuan option and it was phenomenal!!! The broth was delicious especially all of the amazing options you can add into your bowl before getting to the register! GIVE THIS PLACE A TRY! You'll be glad you did!

Grand Opening: 20% off the whole bill

I came in today after seeing a Facebook post about this new malatang spot's grand opening. They were offering 20% off the full bill, which was a big incentive to try it out, especially since malatang has become such a popular concept lately. The restaurant opened at 4pm, and I arrived around 3:45pm. A kind lady let me in early so I wouldn't have to wait outside in the cold, which I appreciated. Once it hit 4pm, I started selecting ingredients for my bowl. At checkout, the 20% discount wasn't mentioned, so I had to remind the cashier. She wasn't sure how to apply it in the system, so there was some waiting while she called the owner to figure it out. After paying, I went to the sauce bar. There was a wide variety of sauces, similar to other malatang places. However, when I poured water from the large yellow water container, dirty black specks came out. I informed the staff, and the container was switched out, but when I tried again, the black specks were still there. I ended up leaving the water cups on the counter so the restaurant could address the issue. I ordered two bowls: one tomato broth and one Szechuan spicy broth. The tomato broth came out first and tasted fine. I actually enjoyed it--it wasn't too sour and had a thicker consistency. The Szechuan bowl, however, came out incorrect as a plain bone broth. I let the staff know, and it was taken back without any apology or explanation. When the corrected bowl came out, it tasted like Szechuan spices were simply added to bone broth. It was very clear and not nearly as spicy as advertised. I understand that during a grand opening there can be mistakes, but I expected a better overall experience. The food wasn't particularly memorable, and the customer service lacked warmth and hospitality. With so many malatang options available, including well-established chains, there's definitely room for improvement here.

PARKING: decent parking, it's around other places so it is in a lot but if it is a busy time it would be pretty hard to try and get a space. PLACE: fairly big, but not too big, would have to combine a few chairs and tables to accommodate to bigger parties, the sauces and everything are already on the table, so are the dishes as well. FOOD: We got the ultra, Tom Yum Tonkotsu & Shiro Miso Soymilk - Tom Yum tasted really good and it paired well with the meat, the Shiro Miso just tasted more like miso soup than actual soy milk mixed in. American Wagyu & Black Angus Beef Toro - I feel like the American Wagyu was a little too fatty for my liking, or it could be the other way around lol, I kind of don't remember which one was which but one had amazing marbling that melted in your mouth. We also got lychee beer, which was super good, didn't even taste like beer. We had like 3 glasses which is funny because we aren't drinkers but it was so delicious. I recommend any of their fruity beers. Edamame - don't really recommend, comes cold and some pieces were not really good.

I think they use induction heaters so it is pretty slick and easy to control. The table itself felt a bit cramped though, and we had to play a bit of tetris to manage everything. There are vegetables that revolve around a conveyer belt for us to grab. The sauce bar is pretty small and got a bit chaotic. The hot food bar was also pretty small. The quality of the food is good. The mala broth was spicy. I think this place has really good value. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles that similar places do but the price is hard to beat. Plus, it feels pretty tech forward with the induction heaters and converter belt.

**3.5 rounding up to 4 stars**…read more I wished they had more tables to accommodate bigger parties but it was interesting sitting bar style in front of the conveyor belt! My only complaint was that it was hard to conversate depending how you're seated. Service was great! Meats came out quickly but I didn't like the limitation where you're only able to order more meat if you only had 1 left but I understand. It was hard to figure out where to put the empty plates and bowls after we were done with it without appearing too messy or inconsiderate of the people around us but us sitting at the end helped. Very simple cuts of meat and options but not bad to just get your pot hot fix in but definitely limiting for meats and sauces. Surprisingly, they had a lot of appetizers I enjoyed like the chicken wings, gyoza, and of course, french fries! But if you're not mindful then you may get full of that vs what you're here for, which is the meat and conveyor belt items lol. The concept and seating is definitely interesting and I felt like I was in Japan. I just wish there were more options.

A waitress there had told me there would be a $7 charge to do that and I paid anyway, but a waiter from our most recent visit assured us there's no charge to mix broths and that there may have been a miscommunication. Glad I asked! We always order 2 sumos: Black Angus Prime Ribeye and the Premium American Kobe Beef but we decided we love the Kobe beef more and would stick to that moving forward as it is more marbled and tastes fattier. Don't forget to ask them for the spicy drops if you also love spicy! This continues to be our favorite place for shabu.

My go-to order is SUMO Premium American American Kobe with Traditional Seaweed (Konbu) soup. The American Kobe is much more marbled and tender than the more expensive Angus Prime Ribeye. Sure, the ribeye is a 'better' cut but its actually not as good for Shabu since the thin slices negates the need for the ribeye to be a tender cut. The Angus Prime Ribeye is generally and usually not as marbled as the Premium American Kobe Beef at this place. Regular/Large/Sumo is 5/8/11 oz if you are wonder, I asked.

The interior isn't anything fancy and it's a typical hole in the wall Asian restaurant but that's how you know the food is gonna be good. I'd also have to admit their service was lackluster back then but they've improved a whole lot since then. I only order two things when I come here and it's always the #38 Thai seafood hotpot which is tom yum based and the #1 banh khot. Their Thai seafood hotpot always hits and has stayed consistent throughout the years. It's a classic tom yum soup base with a variety of different items like fish balls with roe (loveeee), lobster balls, shrimp, mussels, and so much more. They did switch up their hotpot veggies though and it's a platter of lettuce and cabbage now whereas before they used to have crown daisy (which was so much better) but that's okay. As for their banh khot, this is my favorite place to get it. It's always so fresh! Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and the flavor is always on point. Definitely a worthy spot to visit if you haven't had the chance to stop by yet.

Food: My friends and I weren't feeling the hot pot option so we just went with the bbq. We tried various options--brisket, galbi, beef finger ribs, beef tongue, beef belly, raw oysters (for grilling), white shrimp, and Argentinian red shrimp from what I can recall. The standout winners in our books were the beef finger ribs and beef tongue, though I wouldn't say there was anything bad per se (though definitely go for the Argentinian red shrimp over the white shrimp). Ambiance: The interior was pretty nicely designed and laid out. Definitely you'll smell the bbq as you enter, and the floor was a little bit greasy, but that seems par for the course for a kbbq place. Music wasn't loud from what I recall, and bathroom was clean.
