Definitely didn't want to leave this review because I initially liked this place. My group and I came here and ordered 4 beef pots. Even though we confirmed with her that we were ordering 4, she misunderstood us and later brought out 5 beef pots. When she brought a 5th one out, and we reminded her we ordered 4, she brought it back to the kitchen. Shortly after, an older tall male worker came out and rudely asked us if we ordered 5 beef pots. When we told him we ordered 4, he told all of us to leave. The beef pots were all already served at the table and we tried explaining to him that we ordered 4. He brought the same waitress over and asked her if we really ordered 4 which she said that we ordered 5. His attitude was very hostile and he raised his voice to us and his own worker when he was questioning all of us. Since he didn't believe us, he kicked us out and we left. He lectured us and got upset for something that we didn't do and it was a very uncomfortable experience. My group would have been willing to pay for that extra beef bowl if the owner wasn't so aggressive and insisted we were liars. Wuji, Wuji, Wuji.... The ambiance is dingey. The service is horrible. You question why you are here. Then you take your first bite and you instantly realize why you put up with it. It is like the bitterness of the place is an ingredient in the broth. Nothing comes close to the cloudy, oily, and spicy broth around the bay area. Is there better? Probably. But there is only one Wuji. I recommend just ordering 2-3 orders to go then throw a hot pot party at home. Level 3 is probably the sweet spot for most people but level 4 is where it's at. My boyfriend and I came back here after not visiting for a while, and I was surprised to see that the original owner had returned after reading some of the reviews. They now have a happy hour from 9-11 PM, which I really like since I tend to eat dinner pretty late. We ordered the beef house pot and the beef mala pot. I wouldn't recommend the regular house pot unless you're into creamy, milky broths! The broth tasted a little better after a while but I still did not like it. On the other hand, the mala broth is super popular here and my favorite! I usually go with level 3 or medium spicy and it's just the right amount of spice for me! I always replace the mala ingredients since I don't like intestines. I did notice the broth has changed and a lot less salty now. Personally, I kind of liked the saltiness of the old version, but that's just a preference for me. I love the sate sauce here! I wished they had bigger bowls, since I like to take out my meat and vermicelli to keep them from overcooking. STAY FAR AWAY FROM HERE I'm a strong believer that a restaurant's cleanliness and service reflect the quality of its food and Wuji was an absolute disgrace on all fronts. I've never encountered service and food this terrible. I was in the area and decided to give Wuji a try, but the problems started the moment I walked in. The servers already had an attitude, and when I sat down, the table was so sticky and dirty it raised a red flag. Despite the restaurant not being busy, it was almost impossible to get the waitress's attention. The bathroom was also filthy, and if that's what they let customers see, I can only imagine what the kitchen looks like. When my pot finally arrived, I noticed lots of black specks floating in the soup and stuck on the veggies and meat. I brought it up to the waitress, and instead of addressing the concern, she gave me even more attitude and acted as if I was at fault for asking. The food itself was terrible. It was not only oily but constantly seeing more of the black bits float up was so unappetizing that after only a couple of bites, I decided it was safer to leave and eat somewhere else. I'm honestly so disappointed. Looking back, I should have left the moment they said they ran out of rice because everything just went downhill from there. For context, I hadn't eaten all day. I was starving, which means just about anything should have tasted amazing. Instead, this was one of the most frustrating meals I've had. It was still more than an hour before closing when the server told us they were out of rice, and the server suggested ramen so I ordered it, at an additional cost of course. The issue is that the ramen came uncooked, but there wasn't nearly enough broth to cook it. My pot was drying up so fast I had to pour in my drinking water just to keep things from burning. That completely watered everything down, to the point where my level 5 spice (the max level) wasn't even spicy anymore. The glass noodles were very chewy. My fire went out before I could finish cooking everything because the ramen took so long. To make things worse, I had no water for at last 15 minutes. I placed my empty cup at the edge of the table hoping someone would notice. I used to really love this place, but this experience left me so sad and disappointed. We politely mentioned that we only ordered 4, and she took the extra one back without any issue. A few minutes later, an older man (possibly the owner) stormed out and aggressively confronted us and insisted that we ordered 5. We calmly explained multiple times that we hadn't, but he refused to listen, raised his voice, and accused us of lying. He even yelled at the waitress and continued to yell at us despite us remaining respectful. The situation escalated to the point where we no longer felt comfortable or safe staying there. We would've been willing to pay for the extra pot just to avoid a scene, but his behavior was so hostile and unprofessional that leaving was the only option. I think the food and service was alright. This is a pretty quaint spot with not much decor inside. The beef mala pot had a good, deep flavor but was overly salty. I got medium spicy but looking back, I could've gotten a higher spice level. When you come here, keep in mind that they only accept cash, Zelle, or Paypal and when you pay with PayPal, there's usually a fee because you're paying a business. It pains me to write this review with only 2 stars because my family and I have been loyal patrons of this restaurant for many years, but the reality is that our recent experiences over the past 3 months have been very inconsistent. For context, we typically visit this restaurant a couple times every month as we live nearby. My aunt, in particular, loves their Mala soup and it has become a go-to for us whenever we come back from international trips or are simply craving their flavors. We remember fondly the business manager who used to run these operations and were pleasantly surprised by the renovations last spring and the return of the original owner. As I mentioned though, since 2026 started, the soup has been more and more hit or miss. In January when my mom, aunt, and I came, the soup was not spicy enough and was thicker than usual. When we came back just two weeks later, the soup didn't seem fresh and gave everyone stomachaches. Every time we come, we order the same soup, ingredients, and spice level. Our latest experience was the most disappointing. We came and again, ordered the same soup, ingredients, and spice level 4, only to find that this time, the soup was twice as spicy as usual and it seemed to be a pot of only simmering chili oil -- there was none of the Mala spice or depth of flavor we have come to love and expect. Despite this disappointment, I do want to give a huge amount of credit to the incredibly kind waitresses there -- they took it upon themselves to serve us drinks and try to make the experience more palatable. But the soup was simply inedible and even when we took it home to adjust the spice, there was nothing that could be done to salvage the food and it ended up being a complete waste and an unsatisfying experience. We are still craving that normal level 4 spice, but the inconsistency has made this restaurant a gamble each time -- and a pricey one at that. I truly hope the owners will take this as constructive feedback and find a way to return to the consistency of the soup that my family and I have come to love. We have had many 4/5 star experiences here over the years -- it's what kept us coming back even when we had a few dine-in experiences that left more to be desired! But the combination of regularly increasing prices with inconsistent soup quality and portion sizes makes it very hard to choose this restaurant over others that are more reliable. read more

The newly upgraded space is bright, comfortable, and inviting. After hearing that the original owner has resumed management, I couldn't wait to give it another try. We arrived right at the first dinner seating at 6 PM on a particularly hot day-but thanks to the air-conditioning, it was perfectly comfortable. I ordered the 0.5 spicy mala beef broth, and my mom had the non-spicy creamy broth with lamb. The mala broth was just as it should be-rich, flavorful, and full of that signature taste I've missed so much. It truly brought back the original, delicious experience. We left completely stuffed and satisfied. I'm so happy this place is back to its old glory, and we'll definitely be returning for more hot pot soon! read more

We even tried to dine in and the experience is not great. The lady looks like either the wife of the owner or someone close to owner and she sometimes serves as waitress who is so cold and so slow. Wow! I never had Mongolian hot pot and I was lucky to try this place. It reminds me of Chinese hot pot in particular, schezuan hot pot. There was a lot of spice and oil which was not to my liking but it's a personal preference! I got the least amount of spice and it was too spicy for me but again this is a me problem and not the restaurant's. They had unique toppings in it like tripe and if you're a huge fan, this is a place for me. For me personally, I don't eat tripe so I wasn't a fan. Why is this a 4 star if I didn't enjoy the restaurant as much? During my pregnancy 15 years ago, all I craved was spicy food. Wuji came to my rescue every time I needed something hot and spicy! They've been consistent with their broth and portions they give for such a great price! I remember when they were cheaper then but now it's like $23 a pot, which is reasonable considering how much they pack in that tiny pot! I usually order extra veggies because I love my veggies! You get the option to choose between rice or vermicelli to go along with your order also. Go with the rice. My friend and family have a tradition now, Wuji Wednesday where we come here for dinner after work and the Owner is such a nice guy! Always giving us the best service and if you've read my other reviews, good customer service is so important to me. This place definitely has that. If it's your first time, I say try the shrimp mala and beef mala, they're my favorites! But so are the other options! You can choose spicy or non spicy! I'll always be a fan of this place. read more

Worth the try but not too high on my list if I wanted to get my one pot hot pot fix. A little more on the pricey side compared to other spots (especially those that have a lunch special). Wuji is in my top two places for Taiwanese style hot pot - Haidilao being the other. Wuji gives a more authentic authentic Taiwanese Mala experience. It's a hole in the wall restaurant with traditional ingredients. You can order a house pot or spicy pot. In my opinion, spicy pot is the way to go as they are known for and specialize in their mala pots. You can also order the type of meat in your pot - beef, pork, lamb, or shrimp. Each pot comes with an assortment of vegetables and other goodies! I typically order the spicy pot with beef. ***please read - they will ask you what spicy level you want (0-5) spicy level 1 is VERY spicy so tread carefully. Pro tip - you can order 0.5 level spiciness which my wife orders and she said it's perfect! I usually go with level 1 as I enjoy spicy foods :) The spicy pot comes with thinly cut slices of beef, napa cabbage, tofu, tendon, tripe, fishballs, and large intestine. It also comes with your choice of rice or glass noodles. The bowl comes with a generous amount of food and the mala broth is absolutely delicious. Aromatic, comforting, not too overwhelming with peppercorn, and extremely flavorful. It's served in an individual bowl with ethanol jelly keeping a flame underneath to keep your bowl at a boiling temperature. You will leave full and satiated after a pot here! Unfortunately, I learned upon arrival that the birthday meal policy has changed and now requires you to bring a guest. I completely understand businesses need to update their policies, but as someone who came alone and prepared to tip generously (brought cash specifically for this), it was disheartening to drive 3 hours round trip for nothing. The staff explained the new policy, but there was no flexibility or alternative offered, even suggesting I call someone to join me (which wasn't feasible given I'd just driven from out of town.) I'm not upset about policy changes as businesses evolve but, some consideration for long time customers or those traveling significant distances would go a long way. A heads up on the website or a small gesture of goodwill could have turned this disappointment into a positive experience. read more

Amazing! Came here to eat because my aunt recommended it to me. Never knew such a good individual hot pot spot was here all along. I love how deep the flavor is for the mala pot soup. It is a bit on the salty side, but I really love that to eat with the rice. I can tell the quality of the meat is really good because of how tender it is. Before the food was too salty. Now the food is so bland. The beef here is not good quality brother. No flavor at all and the meat feels so rough and hard when you chew. Every time I eat here, I always leave getting the runs. Horrible stomachache. I don't think the restaurant is sanitary at all. Pretty solid hole in the wall spot for hotpot! Has a simple menu of different meats you can get. The mala (spicy) options has items like tripe, tendon, etc that I'm not a fan of. My friend and I came here on a Wednesday night at 7PM, and we were not expecting to see a lot of people in the middle of the week. The parking was pretty packed, so expect to drive around a bit if you come around this time. However, Wu Ji's Mala House had a good amount of people, and we were seated right away!! The service was awesome and quick. I got the House Beef Pot but with the Mala broth (level 2). It was soo delicious - the meat was tender and the broth was so good!!! The soup base is so good. You taste the creamy, the spice, and the beef. Portions so good I had to take some home. They definitely do not go cheap on the ingredients. The service was very good. Place has great atmosphere. There was a steady flow of customers as well as take out customers. I really enjoyed my food I had the beef with glass noodle. 0.5 spicy.
