Depending on the size that you order 5, you can choose the type of meat in the pot. When you order the large, you can choose 2 meats. We had 6 people so we ordered both the large and medium which was enough food for all of us. Rice is ordered per bowl. The menu is very simple, you bscially can pick a single or combo which comes in 2 different meat. It comes with assorted veggies, such as bean sprouts , celery, cauliflower, ect. You can also add additional veggies from the menu for additional price. we ordered the combo large pot, with intestines and chicken wings with mild spicy. You can choose the spicier level if you can handle, but the server recommed mild to be on the safe side. The intestines and the chicken came out to be perfectly cooked. Spice level is good. Service was fast and great, we got our food no lalter than 10-15 minutes. We did come on a Wednesday, Weekends do get busy. In San Diego, one of my favorite restaurants was Sizzling Pot King, which serves dry pot originating from Guizhou, China. Luckily, I was able to find a good alternative nearby. FOOD We ordered the mild spicy large garlic pot with pork belly and beef split between 3 people (it could probably serve 4). It was really good! Each bowl comes with base veggies and we added silk noodles and bamboo shoots. SERVICE Their menu is really confusing and their workers mostly speak in Chinese and have you circle menu items to order. I didn't love that the server only dropped by to ask if we're done "ordering" by circling things on their takeout menu. I docked a star mostly for service. WAIT There was no wait when we went. We were there on the Thursday before Christmas around 2pm. I know this plaza gets busy at night, especially on weekends, so I would recommend coming here for lunch rather than dinner. The outdoor seating set up was quiet cozy and private, I liked the curtains that separate each table. The menus were bigger than I thought, we started with a few Tsingtao beers with ice. Iced beer is what we like these days. For food we had fish and beef dry pot medium spicy and smashed cold cucumbers. The dry pot was very flavorful and comforting in healthy portions. Cucumbers were refreshing and yummy too. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. Even though she was the only one who was working at the moment. The pot looks huge but it's very shallow, the combo for picking two items is about $33/pot, which I think is a little bit high. We did add some other items, and we didn't finish the whole pot, so overall the portion is good. The service is good, very friendly servers and the speed for serving dishes is quick too. Qi Wei kitchen is one place you have to go for Chinese Dry Pot, since some of other dry pot restaurant chain closed due to the pandemic. The one and only drawback of this restaurant is the lack of English speaking staff. Other than that, I really think the food is exceptional. Now, to explain a little bit about Chinese Dry Pot, it is a dish served as a dry hot pot, cooked with chili pepper, garlic and meat of your choice, it was originated from Guizhou province in China. Prior to ordering, please heed to these advise, at least for normal people, especially non Chinese speaking and the first timer. I would hate people to stop going to a good restaurant because of the bad experience or honest mistakes on the first try or visit. Now to avoid confusion about the size: Small is to feed 1-2 people Medium is to feed 2-3 people Large or Combo is to feed 3-4 people So no matter what the server told you, use the above guideline to order your meal size. Otherwise, you might end up with a lot of leftover that you might not like (first timer only) Going on to ordering: Dry pot comes with a basic ingredient and one to two meat protein of your choice for a certain price. Any add ons will cost you extra money. BEWARE! DO NOT ADD TOO MUCH, more add ons does not translate to more portions. So if you want more proteins, I suggest to have another separate dry pot dish, instead of adding more than 3 ingredients to your dry pot. Why? Because you are getting less and you have to pay more money for it. The amount of extra meat and the amount of meat in a new dish was not comparable. Plus with limited English speaking staff, mistakes when ordering might be unavoidable. So if you ordered, point it to the menu and have the staff to write it down accordingly. Now spiciness level for normal people in US: Mild is spicy for normal people Medium is spicy and burning for normal people Hot is SPICY for crying out loud for normal people So if you are part of normal people population, please heed this advise. Try not to go beyond Medium, otherwise your dish can become unedible. Now, onto the food itself, we ordered combo Ox tripe and beef tendon dry pot. It is not an Ox tripe, it is a regular honeycomb beef tripe lol. We ordered it with Medium spiciness, which quite spicy for us as normal people. Our favorite is the original spicy sauce, so we picked that one everytime; garlic and celery did not work well together. They have several sauces, but again try to stick to their original spicy sauce. The dish also comes with standard cauliflower, bean sprout, potato and celery. Don't change any of them. Those are the main ingredients for the flavoring. Without any one of them, it will be different. Celery for sure to give the dish unique aroma, cauliflower to absorb oily flavor, bean sprout to add sweetness to it, and last the potato to absorb the rest of the oil and some of the meat juice making it a very flavorful potato at the end of the meal. Once you get the dish, make sure that you mix them up accordingly, otherwise the upper part of the drypot will be tasteless.
