Boyfriend chose this place for dinner since the cuisine is reminiscent of the meals he'd have in Northern China/it's a more uncommon Northern Chinese cuisine with corn bread grilled on the giant wok and the stews. Plenty of parking in the plaza for a later Sunday night dinner. Restaurant can get quite loud and lively since it's definitely a place where you kick back some drinks and order some delicious food to go along with it. Pretty cheap beer, lots of sake and other alcoholic options too. You order through a MealKey QR code and the staff is pretty efficient in bringing the food out too. For our visit, we got the: 1) Special Mix Stew: -The serving is for 2 people but it is definitely enough to feed 3 people since we had leftovers for this. -It's a huge stew pot that they have in the middle of the table that heats up the food and they even have a timer ready to go off when the food is done cooking and ready to eat. It's super hot so be careful! -This stew comes with pork ribs, chicken feet, wings, and giblets and potatoes. -This reminds me of a Vietnamese dish with the stewed pork and potatoes, so it's a bit nostalgic. I'm not the biggest fan of chewy, cartilage inclusive meats or bone in meat, so I mostly picked at the proteins, but I had a lot of the potatoes, which were quite yummy in my opinion. Plentiful in the stew and absorbed the rich umami flavor (not too salty either). 2) BBQ Chicken Skin (10): -Not the most generous serving (at least it came with 10 skewers), but it did the job as a supplemental protein for me. -It could be a bit crispier (since it's the reason why I love getting chicken skin skewers), but at least it wasn't chewy. -Seasonings made it actually quite spicy with a kick and an after burn which is a bit surprising. Definitely needed to enhance the chicken skin. 3) Dongbei Noodles: -Thicker noodles stir fried with green beans, red chili peppers and chunks of pork. -Lots of pork stew broth at the bottom of the noodles, so make sure to scoop some out too. Comes out steaming hot. -Not a bad dish. Portions were a bit small for the price, but hit the spot for necessary carbs for the meal. -I liked the noodle textures and the flavor. Along with an order of beer, it was over $100 for this meal. I'd come back in the future, maybe with more people to try more of their menu. read more

Note: what we learned from our first visit. I would call and make a reservation before coming by as it can be pretty busy and if you want to the stew pot, it gives them time to prep it. It takes some 20mins for them to prep it in the back and more time when it's placed at your table, but if you make a reservation and order ahead they can prep it and have it placed on four table ahead of time. Saw this place show up and we wanted to give it a try as we were craving some skewers. We definitely want to come back and try the stew pot as it looked delicious at other tables. Small venue and can get loud but I think it's what makes this type of restaurant work I will say they are a bit slow on service because the food is prepped and cooked in the back before they place it on your table to be kept warm. But if you're not in a rush and want to much and drink, it's a fine pace to eat some skewers, drink and socialize. The good: Lamb skewers - good portion of meat, not too overly seasoned. Surprisingly, it wasn't gamey at all. Even had someone in the party who hates the gamey-ness of lamb and actually liked it Beef skewers - get this over the house special beef (I'll get to that in a bit). Better portion of meat, good seasoning Pork belly skewers - just the right amount of fat and protein. Corn - good seasoning, very sweet corn Enoki mushroom - it's really a plate than a skewer so done let the 1 skewer portion mislead you. It's delicious The bad/could be improved - Chicken skin skewers - I'm fine with the portion, but I wish it was cooked more consistently and even crispier. Some I found too chewy and undercooked Cooked House special beef - too spicy and the portion is tiny for the 10 skewers. Can't taste the minimal beef with all the seasoning on it. Get the normal 5 pc beef skewers! Sizzling shrimp - good flavor but generally not worth it in my opinion General issues are that the portion of meat for the price isn't worth it on a lot of items (vegetables especially) but what they get right, it hits the spot just right. I think there's just overall menu pricing issues. Something along the lines of: is 5 beef skewers is equal to 5 okra? I could just go back for beers, beef and lamb skewers, corn and enoki all day and I'd be fine. But I will give this place a try next time for the stew pot and update the review read more
