Store does not know how to manage a queue, basically just yells out food items into the crowd of people until someone claims it instead of writing names or order numbers on their tickets like businesses typically do. They will then proceed to talk shit to you aggressively in front of other customers, as if not knowing which any of pastries are yours versus the other 8 people who just ordered is somehow your fault because they don't want to be bothered putting a name down on their tickets. This establishment is not managed well, clearly, and is seemingly a namesake rather than a business that takes pride in the experiences its employees provide to guests. Off the bat the look isn't the best but we were willing to give it a chance based on a recommendation from a friend. Service was quick but the coffee is mid at best, tastes like Dunkin. Pecan Pie is sorry, it is below mediocre. I was a tourist and dropped by after reading pecan pie reviews specifically. Not sure what pecan pie standard is set for people who reviewed so positive, but for me I have had way better. Try Proud Pie in Houston. Also to top it off they will not warm up the pie that just came out of fridge , the lady at the counter said there is microwave behind you and serves the pie in a non-microwavable plastic container! read more

The only bakery I would ever take the unsafe unreliable aggravating Austin metro bus to! I've been stranded at quacks, harassed on the bus, etc, but the raspberry Yerba mate makes it worth it!! baked goods are also fire. Cream cheese brownie is revolutionary. Oh how the mighty have fallen. This bakery used to be the best in town. Their cakes (German chocolate-pre-2010 and carrot cake) were my go-to on a weekly basis for so many years, but the quality has been waning for about a decade now and I can no longer recommend them unless every other bakery in town is closed. The fact that they stay open past 6:00 pm IS the only reason I've sporadically stopped by over the years. The slices get smaller and smaller and the recipes are just meh...tonight's sliver of key lime was too sweet! I wanted to like Quack's. It gets so heavily recommended as one of the best bakeries in Austin. I've gone a few times now, and it's always a mild disappointment. The cookies are hard enough to bludgeon someone with. The salted caramel brownie only tasted like chocolate and was hard biting into. (I thought maybe I'd been given a regular brownie by mistake, but another reviewer mentioned they couldn't taste caramel in theirs either.) Everything I've had here tastes slightly stale, dry, and hard. Overall, Quack's is mediocre. There are by far much better bakeries in town (and even coffee shops with better pastry options). Like others have mentioned, there's no indoor seating so it's not a viable place to hang out. I guess it's fine if you're already in the area and anything full of sugar will do. A lot of neighborhood people all seem to like this place a lot, but I believe that is out of convenience. I keep trying to go enjoy, but it keeps being blugh. It's nice as a local place. I've personally never left thinking I needed to come back to eat whatever that was again. Usually the opposite. I think a little cleanup would help, along with a refresh of the items. My wife is also a Vegan, and they have the type of vegan that tries to pretend it's not...but ends up being not good, dry, or off textured. Okay so maybe I'm a woman of habit but I love Quack's! It's always a treat to wake up early enough 8-10am (varies on when sold out) to make it in time to get a savory pastry. I do love all things croissants but my eye for gold is the kolaches. They make it really worth it by having so many options and by giving you a bigger sausage in the cheese jalapeño and 2 breakfast sausages in the regular one. I like to take the regular home and dip it in honey or syrup. It's so filling though and perfect for on the go breakfast. I've been living in this neighborhood and coming to Quacks for almost 6 years. It's used to feel like a little treasure that catered to the community but things have changed. It became encapsulated when I saw their small carrot cake, which used to be about just over $30, is now $45 not including the tip! I don't care what kind of economy we have, no 6" cake should be almost fifty dollars. The large one is now close to $70... Even their Turkey or ham croissants are more expensive than their competition, but they give you so little meat inside comparatively. There are other bakeries that offer similar quality but at much fairer prices for middle class consumers. It makes me sad to write this but with such a jump in prices I will be going elsewhere. I've been to Quack's a couple times and have never complained. But today, we ordered an Almond Croissant and a Cinnamon Pull Apart Bun. The Croissant was delicious as usual but the Pull Apart muffin was dry and stale (most likely sat out for a while) and it was near inedible. I waited to get home to heat it up but it was still dry and hard to eat. Disappointing for a near $6 pastry. Overall, nice spot and location. read more

We drive all the way from Round Rock to get these yummy little pieces of heaven!! We usually aren't disappointed. Still following covid protocol and they've created a nice little outdoor patio area which is really nice during the day. Still no indoor seating, but for us still worth the drive! We love the cherry pie, shortbread cookies which are always decorated so cute and taste yummy! I also like the strawberry thumbprint cookies and my hubby likes the wedding cookies. When I can I also like the gigantic cinnamon rolls and cranberry orange scones and muffins!!! Yikes!! Too much yumminess to be able to control myself!! We stopped here for a treat and ended up leaving with LOTS of treats! Everything looked so good. Caramel brownie cupcake: Excellent. Moist chocolate cake and real buttercream frosting that wasn't too sweet. I plan to return to try more cupcakes. Easily the best cupcake I've had recently. Cinnamon roll: Good but the bottom was hard and tasted a little burnt. The inside was really yummy though. Good icing. Banana chocolate muffin: Delicious. Moist, just extremely well done. Banana bread: maybe a little over cooked. Good flavor, but just a tad dry. Cherry pie: Good, classic cherry pie. Apple cinnamon pie: Excellent. The crumble on the top was different from a typical apple pie and made the whole thing very good. Brownie: Standard brownie. Nothing too exciting. Great customer service too. Quacks is around the corner from my house which makes it an essential weekend spot for us. Their coffee, tea and muffins are the best Sunday treat. Their lines may be long, but they are worth it. The inside is adorable, the workers are so sweet and the prices are veryyy reasonable. They have outside seating which is wonderful on a nice day and there are parks in a short walkable distance too. They have an array of different coffees, teas, and treats that are fully stocked at all times. I don't believe they have a bathroom though so keep that in mind when going! Came for a sweet treat on a Wednesday afternoon and it wasn't too busy. Lots of pie options! The employee recommended the blueberry pie and the key lime pie. The blueberry pie was really good and not too sweet. Crust was kind of hard, probably because it had been sitting in the refrigerated display window, but delicious. The key lime pie was very refreshing and not too sweet. Crust also kind of hard, very cookie-like in texture, but tasty nonetheless. Runs around $4.50 for a slice. read more

First time here, and first impression wasn't too great. Customer service was pretty much non existent. We weren't greeted, no one asked if we were ready to order or what they could get us. When I was ready to order, I went up to the lady standing behind the counter and we pretty much just stared at each other because she didn't say a word. No Hi, how can I help you? What can I get you? Nothing! So I said, I'm ready to order and then gave my order. The only thing she said was if I was getting anything else in a very neutral tone. When she gave me my stuff, still not a word from her. So I just grabbed my stuff and left. At least the brownie and cupcake I got were actually pretty good. Items were a bit pricey for the size you get. Who knew such a gem existed in Austin? Their coconut cream pie is incredible, and I crave it so often ever since I found out about Quack's. It seems like a really popular spot because every time we come there's a lot of people sitting outside or standing in line. I will say that the one negative experience that we had was when a worker rudely told my friend that she had to pay before getting her food, but that should be common sense? Decided to give Quacks another try after my previous experience. During COVID I stopped going to Quacks after I was yelled at by an employee (while 8 months pregnant) for coming inside when there were too many people (didn't realize they had a limited capacity). Anyway, Quacks has turned into a dump. The inside is consistently grungy. My veggie kolache was dry again and there are NO bathrooms because they're "renovating". However, I think they've been renovating for a few years and it still looks the same. It's a sham and a shame. RIP Quacks. Edit to my review: Since there is seating outside, there should at least be an alternate option for restrooms like a port-o-potty or an agreement with another business nearby. I used to walk over to Fresh Plus and use their bathrooms but now they no longer have "public restrooms" so it's a huge bummer. I can't go to an establishment without a place to use the potty especially after I drink coffee! Mm. Quacks is pretty good, but their food quality has been going downhill for the past few years. It's a comfy, homely place that's good for studying near the Hyde Park area if you don't mind small spaces. But once again, the parking situation sucks. If you need parking for a quick to-go order, then just park at the grocery market with the cool farmers' market mural. The grocery market is just across the street. My favorite baked good to buy is a slice of strawberry rhubarb pie. It goes along perfectly with a glass of milk. If you don't know what rhubarb is, it's a leafy vegetable that grows well in the winter. The texture is similar to swiss chard, only softer. A winter native vegetable means Quacks has this pie available fresh even during the winter. Their cookies always come in cool shapes that seem to changed every day. They even released a cookie shaped like a pokeball when Pokemon Go was released. The bathrooms are incredibly strange. Quacks doesn't have a bathroom stall that locks like a traditional bathroom stall you usually find. The cover is short too, so any somewhat tall woman to look over the walls and see you taking a potty break. Guess the bathroom is incentive to pee quickly? read more

I work in the area and go to Quacks fairly often they have wonderful vegan truffles, delicious muffins, pretty good coffee and almost always have cool cashiers! However, I tried a couple of new things today - and I was very disappointed. When you're spending $5 per item, I think there's room to be picky. My poor kolache was given to me, called with no offer to heat it up - I assumed it would be warm, considering it was only 10 AM. I have heard good things about the cinnamon rolls, but eating the tough crispy pastry was more of a challenge than a treat. Moral of the story, we love a delicious small business and I will keep going back; but probably stick to the tried-and-true items! read more

My bf and I were visiting Austin for the first time and took a walk in Hyde Park, and a friend recommended we visit Quack's for some sweet treats. We got there around 5:30pm and they still had a good selection of cookies, cupcakes, and truffles and a surprising amount of vegan items. We just got the vegan chocolate raspberry truffle. I actually really liked the hard shell as it stayed together really well between bites, and the inside was so smooth and flavorful. There is a good amount of outdoor seating. Cupcakes are humongous and pretty darn good especially after it warms up (microwave on premise if you are in a hurry to warm that baby up!). We like (actually LOVE) their croissants! they are huge and with many many layers of love!!! We drive here (35 minutes from our beautiful suburb) just to get some of this bakery's goodness! Hate that I have to write this review... I've been coming here the past 5 years and absolutely loved this place- up until recently, the employees have been rather rude. I brushed it off a couple times thinking they're having a bad day but Unfortunately it's ongoing. They're incredibly rude and talk down on you. While asking around for some must hit up spots a Austin local said we should not miss out on Quack so we headed over to check them out. Man were we pleased form the moment we walked in the door. We found ourselves in a very friendly locals regular spot. The sights and smells drove our taste buds and eyes crazy until we got our hands on our delicious order. One great tip is is you show up after 6:30 pm they have a two for one offer on selected items. We left satisfied ,tummies full, and the biggest smiles on our faces.
