Such a great bakery recommended by a friend. We tried the Parmesan onion biscuit, chocolate babka, and chocolate olive oil croissant. We got there around 11am on a Saturday and was already sold out of some items and a line out the door. Such a cute bakery, clean, friendly, and could see them making beautiful fresh pastries. Everything was delicious, flavors well balanced, perfect texture, and definitely wish we had bought more. The chocolate and olive oil was unique and could really see and taste the olive oil. It paired well with the chocolate and never had that combo before. The croissant itself was flaky, buttery, and good. Wow, the quality of the baking and smoothness of the coffee reminds me of the best bakeries I've been to in San Francisco. Possibly the best bakery I've ever been to. I wish I had visited this place more often while living in Healdsburg but maybe it's a good thing because all of their pastries are amazing. Their cinnamon roll is to die for, the oatmeal cream pie is out of this world and their cookies are addicting. I'm compelled to write this review because of the hot cross buns that I had here. They were the most delicious hot cross buns I have ever had. They were so light, tender, buttery, and with a hint of sweetness from the currants and the judiciously applied icing. Wow! I have also had their miche, scones, and biscuits. Everything is good but those buns were heavenly. Service was great - friendly and efficient. I went 30 minutes before they closed on a Saturday and there was no crowd. I came upon a new treasure! This high quality, bakery, quail and condor, opened approximately two years ago! I was introduced to this bakery by a native while at a Geyserville Restaurant, Catelli's (which btw, has the most delicious, homemade raviolis and extraordinary bartender, June). When I got to the bakery, they were cut close to closing, but still had a nice selection, I couldn't resist the ham and cheese croissant, and the danish Ryebread, pictured here. I gobbled up the ham and cheese croissant so quickly that I didn't take a photo of it but I have to say if the bread is half as good as a croissant, I am a forever fan! This was a treat!! My wife and I rarely get up to Healdsburg, so when we found ourselves in the neighborhood on a recent Sunday morning, we followed the recommendation from our friend Mary V. and made a point of stopping here for breakfast and some treats. Everything people say about its popularity is well founded. The line was out the door and into the parking lot, but it moved along pretty fast (maybe a 10 minute wait for us). We ended up buying * a loaf of Danish Rye, $11. It's very moist and dense, not something you'd use to make French toast from, but delicious. Knowing I wanted it to last, and worried that if I took my time eating it we'd probably find mold after a few days, I sliced it and put it in a sealed container in our freezer. When I want a slice or two , I pop them into the toaster (amazing with goat cheese and fig jam). * Super Seed Pan Loaf, $10. I love this bread! Soft, pillowy. It IS perfect for eating straight, toasted, or as French toast. The loaf was gone in two days. * Macaroon, $3 -- if you like macaroons, then try one! * Chocolate Chip Cookie, $5. That's a lot for a cookie, but we were splurging, and really happy we got one. We split it and thoroughly enjoyed the balance of chocolate and the crunch. I'm not a fan of powdery cookies, nor ones that are too gooey. This was perfect with crunchy edges and chewy center. * Samosa Croissant, $7. This became our breakfast. Full of Indian spices/seasoning, potatoes, cauliflower and peas. Make sure you have napkins. * Florentine Chocolate Croissant, $6. I think we scarfed this down in the car. Probably way too fast, since I don't have a lot of memories eating it. * Almond Croissant, $7. Had this for breakfast the following morning (again, split two ways). The almond frangipane paste along the bottom was moist and delightful. Sorry, no photos. But a new tradition is born! We got the fig morning roll and the pistachio croissant - the morning bun was excellent - the dough was just right and it was not too sweet or too dry . Just enough fig cream . The croissant was just ok - while the dough was excellent , it didn't had enough filling and not enough strong flavors of pistachio . My wife also got the hot chocolate (on oat milk) which she claims was one of the best she ever had. The kouign amann was particularly good - not overly sweet and full of delicious layers. The morning bun with rosemary was also so delicious. I thought the rosemary added an interesting savory note, and I thought all the crisp layers were perfect. The savory scone was also a big hit - cheesy and seasoned well! The laminated dough here is a little thicker style than some other places we have tried, so instead of dozens of paper-thin airy layers, you get more of a substantial, thicker pastry which is more apparent in the croissants (we tried the ham and cheese and chocolate). I'm both happy and angry. Happy because they have the best-tasting baked goods outside of Paris. And angry because this place is 3-hours away from where I live. Freaking tease.... Love the plain, non-pretentious storefront. They have some free ice water to the right of the entrance (it's the small things); to the left you will see them making fresh bread; at the center is the crown jewel: a long counter with buttery goodness. My husband and I grabbed a ham and cheese croissant and walked to the park to eat it. This was the best croissant I had outside of Paris. The outside was crunchy and flakey, the inside was buttery and airy, and the high quality cheese and meat were just a cherry on top. We devoured our breakfast and decided to come back the next day to grab some more pastries for our trip home. We stopped by the next morning before the store was even open and there was already a line. That just speaks to how good they are. We ended up getting another ham and cheese croissant, a parm onion biscuit, a strawberry financier, cherry cream bun and a verbena morning bun and everything was amazing! Four stars for the amazing seasonal cardamom rose latte. Honestly one of the best lattes I've ever had. The croissant was fresh but too crispy. I like mine a bit more chewy and knew I should have gone for their cinnamon bun instead. Overall a cute vibe with outdoor seating but we weren't greeted upon walk-in, despite the four staff members working and that kind of peeved me. One of my favorite bakeries in the Sonoma County area. Always delicious. But I noticed that there portions were downsized by quite a bit while prices remain the same. This is a good bakery, but I can't give it five stars because I don't think these are the best croissants around. They just aren't worth 45 minutes of waiting in the cold (or heat if you come in the summer). I was excited to try the cardamom and pistachio croissant because that was a first in flavor combos. Sadly, after many bites, I only tasted a bit of cardamom in one or two bites. I didn't get any pistachio. The croissant gets points for flakiness, but its also missing some soft center breadish parts which make it feel like almost too much air. The sourdough bread loaf holds its own and I'd serve it with any meal or make a nice sandwich with it. Top marks there. For me the best croissants in the Bay Area are found at Arsicault in SF. In Sonoma I can find a better croissant at Sarmentine or Baker and Cook without the line. read more

Wow! This place is amazing! I had seen it on instagram and thought it couldn't possibly be as good as the pastries are pretty! So on a trip up to Mendocino, I dragged my friend, kicking and screaming to try this place (just kidding, who wouldn't want to try some gorgeous pastries). I almost took a star off for the fact that there are way too many good things and I couldn't try them all ;) The pastries were amazing! I had the morning bun with cream (the cream was amazing!) and a cherry financier (perfect), while my friend had a chocolate chip cookie, a croissant and a savory item that I'm forgetting but was also yummy. When I saw photos of Quail and Condor's baked goods on Instagram, I was impressed! The pistachio croissant had well-defined layers and looked simply divine. However, reality did not live up to the hype. I placed an online order for a pistachio croissant to pick up on Sunday afternoon. The ordering and pickup process was streamlined and easy, which I appreciated. The bakery space is adorable and nicely decorated and the staff were friendly and enthusiastic. I was just so underwhelmed with the croissant!! I had such high hopes and they fell pretty flat after just one bite. Despite looking delicious, the pistachio croissant was chewy -- dense, rubbery layers instead of the fluffy layers I was expecting. There wasn't nearly enough pistachio flavor, making the whole experience pretty lackluster. My friend also ordered the pistachio croissant and felt similarly -- she confided that she couldn't even finish it (it's pretty hard to not want to finish a CROISSANT!). Maybe this was just a bad batch or maybe I need to try more items from their menu, but I'm not super eager after this disappointing experience. I went into the store to order the following: * Ham & Cheese Croissant $5 * Chocolate Croissant $4 * Blueberry muffin $3 * Cheese Danish $4 * Almond Croissant $5 * Pistachio Croissant $4 * Black & Blonde Peanut butter bar $4 I enjoyed that the above mix was both savory & lots of sweet. Savory was the Ham & Cheese & Pistachio. I love sweet! The chocolate croissant was perfect texture with chocolate chunks. The Cheese danish is savory outside with sweet outside toped with fresh strawberries. The Almond croissant was my favorite with sweet interior filled with almond frangipane. My second favorite was the Pistachio. You have been warned..although delicious the baked goods can get messy! The croissants fall apart easily with their crispy tops. You will get sticky fingers too! WHEN: Saturday @10:15am It was my first time checking out Healdsburg when we drove by what looked like a bakery with a short line. Had to do a u-turn to check it out. They have their own parking lot but it was filled. We lucked out with parking on the street (no meters). By now the line got longer that reached the bus stop. However, it moved by pretty fast! A staff member would come out and ask if you want any coffee while you wait. The place has huge windows with lots of natural light coming in. I think what helps is that you can clearly see the pastries they have from the outside. So by the time I was next I knew exactly what I wanted! Here's what I got: OATMEAL CREAM PIE - $3 This huge treat is 2 giant gooey and yummy oatmeal cookies with what tasted like cream cheese frosting in between. It was so good and I loved everything about this cookie. For only $3 this is such a great price! PARMESAN ONION BISCUIT - $3 There are huge chunks of the onions in it. I thought this was overall okay, but my partner really enjoyed it. HAM & CHEESE CROISSANT - $5 Not the best Ham & cheese croissant but not bad! I wish there was more of that wonderful seasoning on top. It's such a nicely flaky pastry that the top layer with all the seasonings would come off. PISTACHIO CROISSANT - $4 This unique pastry sounded yummy I had to try it! It wasn't too sweet but it definitely was a fine croissant--you can tell with the clear definition of layers! I see it in their other croissants too! MORNING BUN - $4 This was a last minute add-on because I noticed this morning bun has a filling! Its was a nougat filling that tasted like caramel--but you know its nougat. It was a nice flaky pastry with a good amount of the filling (very sweet). By the time I was back in my car it was only 10:30am! I had been to the cafe once before. Today I drove over from the East Bay and pulled up only to see they were "closed for construction". So bummed! I saw folks inside and thought to ask where else I could go to get a croissant. A women came to the window and I explained that I drove up from SF. She smiled and offered me a large box of pastries. Horrible "customer service" We were going up to celebrate a big family reunion and had gone a few weeks earlier to see if their pastries were worth the hype. The day we went they were pretty good, not the best but certainly tasty. I asked about ordering in advance for ~30 people and they said they would just need a few days notice for a large order like that and gave me a business card. About a week away I try calling multiple times and sending an email to the address on the card. Absolutely nothing back. Not even once. So then since we were already up there a few days ahead I popped in to ask again and see if I can place my order then. The guy is like you can just order for next day after 4 PM. Despite me saying again we had close to 30 people. No problem he assured me instead of just taking my order then. So I try to order as instructed and guess what? There's a limit of 24 items and it says for large group orders to please call or email. Overall pastries and such are about a 2.5/5 certainly no where close to a B patisserie or Ariscalt or even Backhaus and too bad none of those are in the area bc they'd certainly be much friendlier and willing to work with you. In the end it's fine - I'm glad to have given other businesses in the area my money instead of this pretentious place. read more

I live in town and finally stopped for a croissant at Quail & Condor. I can see why there's a small crowd every morning snapping up amazing baked goods. I wouldn't bother making a special trip from out of town, but locals should definitely check these guys out. Everything on display is picture perfect and the flavors on point.
