What a great find in the 626, especially when the closest restaurant that serves this style of Vietnamese seafood is in Orange County, like OC Lau. This was a hole-in-the-wall Vietnamese pub. It is a good and fun place for friends to catch up. It is also a good place for big groups. Menu items are not as much as OC Lau, but we enjoyed everything we ordered. We ordered the Grilled Bloody Clam w/ Green Onions, Scorched Rice Topped with Pork Floss, Thai Seafood Hot, and Grilled Garlic Butter/Pepper Escargot. The escargot and the blood clams were fun to eat. They both come out on sizzling plates. The escargots were chewy and garlicky, while the blood clams were juicy. Both were flavorful on their own, without the sauces. The Scorched Rice Topped with Pork Floss was crispy and crunchy. I loved the texture of it. There were also additional toppings on the rice, like Chinese sausages. The Thai seafood hotpot is not like the Vietnamese sour soup with catfish and tamarind, by the way. But it was still flavorful and perfect for a cold night. The staff were very hospitable and nice. They can provide recommendations of what to order if it is your first time. Came here craving Vietnamese seafood and there's not a lot of places in the area that serves it so worth a try and it did not disappoint. We came here on a Wednesday afternoon around 5:00 and the businesses in the lot were mostly closed. There's elevator and stair below the restaurant. The ambiance of the restaurant is reminiscent of karaoke bar with colorful lights and a stage. See below for our order and all items were nicely made aesthetically and tasted fulfilling. Our favorite was lemongrass clams, the onion/peanut scallops and grilled squid. They changed owners. Now it's much cleaner in there. I had dinner here yesterday with my friends. They fell in love with the seafood. They said if I didn't take them here, they would've never been there. It's upstairs in a kinda quiet shopping plaza. After a long day of working, we drank a lot of soju and beers! Their food is bomb. Had lunch here today after hearing how much my daughter enjoys coming with my father. It was great! Our 1st concern was my being able to access the restaurant due to being on the 2nd floor, as I'm wheelchair reliant. The elevator worked just fine and is right next to this spot. We were quickly greeted by a lovely woman. Her nickname is "Happy". This nickname is indeed fitting for her. Very sweet, glowing smile, and incredibly hospitable. Things we ordered: Quails with garlic butter sauce: this was not as juicy as I've had it at other places, but decent Crispy rice with pork sung and Chinese sausages: my friend wanted this and it was good, but nothing too special Grilled scallops: these were good! But too much peanuts on top in my opinion. Escargot: it was my first time trying snails and I forgot which one we ordered exactly but it was BOMB. It just takes a lot of effort getting a tiny bit of meat out, which is kind of disappointing Goat hot pot: this one is really good for a cold/windy night. It comes with a lot of vegetables and noodles for you to cook inside. The broth is rich and flavorful. They do charge for you to refill the broth, which you most likely have to do since there's a lot of things to cook. Seafood here is fresh. I had wanted to try the snail and the coconut snail did not disappoint. It's a little hard to eat and you don't get a lot of meat but the flavor of the coconut broth was bomb. The grilled shrimp has a sweet spicy coating on the shell. The shrimp meat itself was sweet as well. The abalone with garlic was good. I dipped it in the salt, pepper, lime sauce for some added flavor. The red clam was so yummy. I think they cook it on a bbq grill in its own juices. Comes out hot on a hot plate. This business is extremely unprofessional. They overcharge customers, charging for 70 beer bottles when only 50 are ordered. This is not the first from hearing customers that come here. I love vietnamese style snails and shellfish that I often go down to Garden Grove just to eat some. Was excited I found something similar near by but was HUGELY DISSAPOINTED. The restaurant was located upstairs. One wall in this restaurant is covered with filth from top to bottom I'm not sure if it's oil or beer or what but it's gross. The food was barely edible. We ordered Garlic Butter Escargot,scallops, and some clams. Each dish was flavorless and the texture was like I was eating rubber. The Escargot was especially bad that at one point I was so disgusted everything wanted to come back up. Blood clams and baby clams were good. Service was half/half. There were two servers, female and male. Female server was only nice to my dad which was awkward since as a consequence of ignoring the rest of us she got a couple of the orders wrong. Male server treated everyone equally and was helpful. Ok, we are definitely not the target audience for this place. I am American and my husband is Filipino. Neither of us drink. This place is clearly geared to native Vietnamese to hang out in groups of 6-8 buddies after work and drink rounds and rounds of beer and eat from a shared hot pot. Toast after toast of clinking bottles. Guy after guy headed to the bathroom to relieve themselves to open up space for another round of beers. We ordered #24 Bò lúc lāc diced beef. It was so tender and perfectly spiced. I was blown away. Husband had #23 deep fried tofu and #47 beef porridge which he also loved. All portions were large and intended to be shared. We got seated and it was really loud inside with Vietnamese dance music bumping and people talking loud in Vietnamese. 3 appetizers came within 10 minutes then the rest of the 45 minutes we were there we had just been forgotten. I talked to the server 3 times in 3 different intervals to check on our food and they just kept busy doing their own things because I guess the group of Vietnamese guests whom went inside the private rooms came and their food was taken care of first. 3 tables whom came after us had already gotten their food and we were still missing 3 main dishes leaving us having no food to eat for almost 40 minutes. Their entire menu has two items with goat...a goat noodle soup and goat hot pot. I believe they are working on changing their name...but still felt a little cheated as we came in intending to try 7 courses of goat...oh well. For a Thursday evening, their place was steady with business. We ordered the snail with garlic butter, squid salad, and crispy fried noodle, oh and one hot tea. Total came out to be $50, we weren't even really full but just didn't want to keep spending money. The food does taste pretty good. The squid salad was also decent size. It was the crispy noodles that made me feel that it was over price. It was a deep fried noodle with some seafood. There was barely any seafood, 3 low quality shrimp, and just a lit of bok choy to fill the gap...for $17. Usually at these places, the fried noodles and rice dishes are ur filler...so it should be cheap and filling, which this was not. They also ran out of chicken wings cuz the big party next to us ordered it all... probably cuz they needed a cheap filler item and that was what filled them up. Would I come back? Maybe. There's a couple of other OC and Lau places around the area now, so I'll try those and decide.
