The place was packed to the brim which is testament to courteous , affordable and good service (which I'd give them 4 stars for). The fact that one is kinda packed in and you don't get to sit in a spa chair unless you specifically ask for one (they didn't make me aware of the choice just told me to sit in a corner and pulled out a little foot tub)... it all kinda detracted from the experience. Most speak Vietnamese (I'm chinese) but some speak Cantonese so I start pulling out my Cantonese tongue swag talking to them in Canto. I like :) I feel kind of at home here. Haha. They're all really nice and honest manicurists. They give me little tips on how to take care of my nails. And they tell me stories about their lives. I am really surprised that this place has such a high average rating. After reading the reviews, I thought I was going to get at least a decent mani/pedi. Although the staff is friendly, I am pretty disappointed in results. For starters, the color selection isn't as abundant as I would have hoped. A lot of repeats and not a lot of this season's colors. I'm staring at my manicure right now, and I'm really tempted to just take off the polish when I get home and re-shape/re-paint my nails myself. The "square" shape that I hoped for can only be described as lazy. No real time was taken to shape the nail, leaving me with some hybrid of square and round. Moreover, the coats of polish are uneven. The second coat doesn't match the first coat, so my polish looks choppy. Even more, the final top coat doesn't spread over my whole nail, adding to the overall sloppy look that my nails now have. I also have some fatty bubbles in the polish, which occur because the nails aren't properly dried before polish application. To make matters worse, the woman doing my nails had left over polish on her nails from wiping corners and edges of other's people nails. I chose a light pink/nude color and as she corrected my polish the red and dark pink residue on her nails bled into my color. So on at least three of my nails I have really noticible red and pink spots. My pedicure is okay. I much prefer when they take a brush to clean the edges, versus when they use their nails. So I have little smudge marks on the sides of my toes and cuticles from that. I really wish this place had lived up to the Yelp reviews. The only reason I'm not giving this place one star is because they were friendly and seated me pretty quickly. I won't be going back. $17 dollars is a good deal, but this polish job won't last me over the next few days. I'd rather pay a little extra for satisfaction. read more

EDITED: I went here for leg and eyebrow wax and gagged in my mouth. The back rooms are putrid. They expected me to lie on the bench in my knickers... With no towel, and they were opening the door willy nilly. I asked for a towel... A few minutes later she comes back and hands it to me... It was covered in pubic hair... And not just from one person (I am assuming) It was multi colored! N-A-S-T-Y! Ugh, it was like a cake of soap in a men's locker room. Furry! Stopped by today as I needed a Pedi desperately. They were able to take me in right away. The lady did a great job and fairly quickly as I needed to be somewhere right after. Plenty of colors to choose from and many different brands for polish. Only downside... I couldn't tip on my card which sucks. They made me use their atm to pull out cash. Luckily the machine only charges $1 for fee. cheapest machine I've ever used. Atm fees are usually more than that... Anyway, minus the fact that I couldn't pay my tip by card, all else was good. I usually go to Main Attraction on Main Street in Santa Monica for the $20 mani/spa pedi but this lunchtime I had to get my car washed at Blue Wave and was in dire need of a manicure. Found Queen Nails on Yelp with decent reviews saying to not have too high of an expectation of a place that charges only $14.99 for a mani/pedi. Found out that was true. I got a no-frills mani for $6. Didn't trust that the utensils were clean though considering the empty jars of disinfectant. Instead the manicurist had tossed the cuticle cutter in a bowl of soapy water. So I simply asked her to not cut my cuticles. The thing is, the time I went at noon, the place was filled with apparent regulars who knew the manicurists' names and whom the manicurists knew as well. So returning customers is always a good sign. Clientele at the time I went consisted of older women in their 40s and 50s and one 60-ish man who was enjoying being pampered by a young Asian girl wearing a short skirt and halter top. That kinda creeped me out for some reason. The reason I gave this place 3 stars is because it wasn't terrible and for something basic it's fine. Also I like how it's just across the street from my car wash so when I go during lunchtime when there aren't many people getting their nails done, I can drop my car off, run and get my nails done and still make it back in time for the car wash guy to hold up my keys. Not only did they charge me way more then what they said it would be when I called but the service was not good. The lady kept complaining when I would ask her to shape my nail like the picture I showed her and didn't do them correctly. Second, after paying $100+ for nails that were suppose to be $60....they started chipping after one day! Also, she took off my acrylics by ripping them off which lead to my nails bleeding, nails short, and my skin ripped off. Totally dissatisfied. UPDATE!!! I decided to come back here and make the trek regardless of how long it takes for me to get there, usually rush hour! Here is the thing, they are just the best. Victoria and her crew always take care of me. Love, love love them. I have been coming here for years! Victoria and her girls are always warm and friendly. The prices are great. I mean really great. They give good massages. I am in and out of there fast. My nails last two weeks if I cant get back there. They have a huge selection of nail polish and mostly OPI ( OPI polish last waaaayyyy longer). Yes, its true that some of the girls are better than others at certain things, but at what nail salon is that not the case. Some of the girls are better at gel/acrylics, others at massage and there is one girl there who does great nail design. If I have ever had any problems, I have always felt comfortable talking to Victoria and she has always discreetly fixed the issue for me. I have never had an issue with my nails being sloppy. I came here on the recommendation of my roommate who is familiar with this area. As someone who grew up in OC, I am us to the spa like feel the nail salons offer there. However, LA nail salons decor and sometimes cleanliness is mediocre but the nail technicians typically do a goos job. Here, I came for acrylic removal and gel manicure. My nails were over a month old with great fills and it was difficult to remove. Happy it lasted this long but the most painful removal process. One side of my nail peeled off with blood galore. It was a painful scene. Vin, was my tech and tried to be as tactful as possible. However, I suggested multiple times to use acetone to loosen the nails a little bit, but to no avail. After cleaning the bloody scene and making sure my nails were looking fine, I can say I will come to Vin from now on. And NEVER do acrylic again. read more

I've been a regular CUSTOMER FOR 5 YEARS. IM SO DISAPPOINTED with this place. I've been coming to queen two days a week for the past five years for a manicure. I regularly saw Nancy and only Nancy by appointment only. After a while when I began coming in ON TIME for my appointments I noticed Nancy had just started on someone else and had no regard for my time or my appointment. After about a dozen times of this happening, I finally said something to VICTORIA the manager and she rectified the situation and apologized. After 5 years of loyalty and my business Victoria told me she wouldn't take appointments by me anymore even though the issue was on her end of things. The manicures are cheap and the service is ok. But I never thought after 5 years Victoria, whom I'd had the most pleasant interactions with, would be so cold and turn me away. It's the principal of the matter and I feel so utterly disrespected by her and her team. I spent hundreds of dollars there a month. She had no regard for my business or me as a person. TRULY DISGUSTED with this place and the people who work there. What's the most disappointing is that I would see these people so often that they became friends and it was so easy for them to just turn a loyal customer like me away. This is the only place I go to get my nails done and I've been going for probably close to 8 years now. I only get pedicures, but every once in a while, I'll throw in a manicure too. The prices are amazing and my pedicures lasts forever! I'm about to hit the 3 week mark on my current pedi and not so much as a little chip yet! I also like to ask them to do various, fun paint jobs I find on Pinterest and they always do a great job! Sometimes they make it even better than the picture! I always walk in, I never make an appointment, and am happy to have whoever is available do my nails because they're all great! I usually go during off times, but sometimes, when I go during busy times, I might have to wait 15-20 minutes, but they always get me in. The prices are great and I don't have to go as often as I do most places because the paint lasts forever! It's not fancy at all and the ladies all seem to be great friends so they tend to chat a lot in Vietnamese, but I don't mind at all. There's street parking out front or a pay lot in back. I've tried about 5 nail salons in Los Angeles near Westwood and Hollywood, but none quite got it right. Some are shabby, some too stuffy and chemical smelling, and some just overpriced. Queen Nails is the inbetween, but better than some high end places. My friend mentioned that the way LA nail salons do mani/pedi, they're only supposed to last about a week or two. WHAT??! maybe it's because I started doin my nails in La Jolla, where I got used the mani/pedi being so good and well executed, they could last up to a month, hands down. These ladies are not pushy at all (already up a star), they're not huge talkers so you can actually relax and enjoy the massage and pampering, accept both cash & card, and are OPEN SUNDAYS! They did a great job, exactly the way i told them, no questions asked! and my pedi/mani are still intact, perfect, not even a scratch, for 17 dollars!!! O_O (can you say, cheeeaaaapp???) This a no frills so If you need a really pretty place with a bright, clean atmosphere like other nail salons, this place is not for you. Keep in mind that is $10 for mani, $13 for pedi and $20 for mani/pedi so if you want a really nice place, expect to pay $35+. If you want your nails to be cleaned and painted, this place is for you. It's very basic inside with only 2 pedi chairs (looks really outdated and kinda run down even) and 4-5 mani stations. Nail color selection isn't the largest but they have the colors I wanted from OPI and Essie so I was fine with that. I got a mani/pedi and instead of going to one of the pedi chairs, I was sat down at a mani station and they brought over a tub with plastic liner with warm water, which surprised me, and placed a towel over my lap since I was wearing short. Again, no frills so not bubbling jet obviously, no scrub or salt in the water or massages (hence why it's $13 if you get the pedicure alone) Amy did a really good job cutting my nails and painting them (didn't talk at all but I really like that since sometimes it can feel really forced and I just want to read a magazine or zone out and relax). There are no fans to dry your toes so you turn around and she does your nails and you just let your feet dangle and dry as you're getting your nails done All in all, for $20 for mani and pedi, I'll take it. I have been coming here for almost 10 years. Victory has been the person taking care of my nails since and i can not express how professional and great person she is! She does my nails perfectly EVERY single time. Doesnt matter if she was in a rush OR have plenty of time. She was extremely gentle and specific with my feet needs... they needed some loving and I got what I came in for. Friends of mine come here often and I can see why. They had good choice of nail colors (including OPI and Essie), they appeared clean and tidy and did a good job overall. I came in this past Thursday as a walk-in after work. Every seat was filled up and there were about 3 girls ahead of me. I thought the wait would be horrible due to past experiences with previous salons, but this place is a well-oiled machine. About 10 minutes of wait time and I was up! I came in for a fill on my acrylics, a pedi, and eyebrow waxing. The girl who did my pedi gave such a good foot massage, I couldn't help but close my eyes in deep relaxation. Victoria did the fill on my wrecked nails and cleaned up my eyebrows. She was extremely friendly, attentive, and did such a FANTASTIC job on both my nails and eyebrows. She even made sure I had enough money to feed the meter. These girls work hard and do a great job without breaking your bank.
