My husband and I stayed at an AirBnB above this place and let me tell you....we smelled the tacos every morning. We didn't really have a plan to come here as it never popped up in our research, and we're usually a little questioning on places right on 5th....but we were craving steak for a late dinner one night and this place had it so we said why not? WOWWWW. This honestly was one of our favorite meals on the trip. I'm so glad we gave it a try. Drinks. The best margs in Playa. Hands down. Less than $10 a marg and these are high quality. We had them two nights and they are consistent too. Honestly, worth every penny and I could have drank here our whole trip. The restaurant was slow by the time we got there but service was still fantastic the whole time. The guacamole??? THEY MAKE IT TABLE SIDE. And it's super fresh ingredients, salted to your liking. They had us try it before they put it on our table. It was such a fun experience and was so delicious. This was our one non-mexican meal. I'm sorry, I needed some fries. And they killed it. We got the steak and shrimp. The steak was cooked well, super tender and juicy, and tons of flavor. It was the perfect size for us to share. The shrimp? I'll be honest, I haven't eaten a lot of shrimp in my life and tend to be picky on my seafood...I ate my fair share. The grill flavor they had on these. Amazing. So good. And their fries were cooked to perfection. Such a great meal. If you have family members that are picky but you still want to eat local food on your trip, I would recommend this spot. We stumbled upon this restaurant while walking down 5th Ave (Quinta Avenida) and were immediately greeted and seated. If it's a hot day, try to sit near one of the big fans -- they make a big difference. A few minutes later, a server came by to take our drink order. We ordered a dirty martini and a mixed cocktail (vodka and club soda). I noticed the waiter seemed to be struggling to explain the drink order to the bartender, and a few minutes later, we were served a chocolate martini instead. Rather than get upset, my wife and I just smiled at each other. I speak a little Spanish, so I went up to the bar to clear things up. The bartender and I worked it out, and within five minutes, my wife had the dirty martini she originally ordered. Please note I also provided a picture of the spicy margarita. For our meal, we ordered guacamole, salsa, steak tacos, and chicken enchiladas. The guacamole and salsa was made fresh at our table -- I even got some great videos of the process. About 20 minutes later, the main course arrived. The steak tacos were generous and filling, so I was lucky enough to snag one. The meat was tender and perfectly seasoned -- I loved it! My chicken enchiladas were also delicious. The only surprise was the cheese on top; it was a thick, white cheese, more like what you'd find on a sandwich than on traditional enchiladas. That said, it still tasted great. One tip: be patient. If you don't speak at least a little Spanish, there might be a few small misunderstandings -- but nothing that can't be resolved with a smile. read more

Staying at an All-Inclusive can be a bit wearing after the first few days. Looking for some variety we opted to spend our mornings wandering around Playa walking all the way down the strip to the "end" then taking the beach back to our resort. During our early a.m. jaunts, we stumbled across this little gem, Quinta de Piedra. Quinta gets a solid 4-stars flat. We were seated in the outdoor patio area where we had the company of a couple lizards wandering in and out. It was hilarious watching my wife scramble thinking these guys were going to attack! The ambiance of Quinta was on point. We had great service, great food and just a solid experience here. While we were there a 2-man band setup shop and played some mellow music as we at our breakfast. That made for a whimsical time as we lounged and enjoyed our meals. We ate here at 11:30AM, which allowed us to order off two menus; the breakfast or the early lunch. The full lunch menu becomes available at 1PM. Collectively, we had the French toast (w/ guava compote), pancakes (w/ smoked whip cream and fruit), and a club sandwich. The French toast was good, bit certainly more savory than sweet, and had hints of rosemary and celery in the compote. The smoked whip cream was a little strong in the flavor profile for my 10 year old, but the pancakes were good. The club sandwich was wonderful, and the fries were perfect. The service we received was incredible, and everyone was very attentive The atmosphere was very laid back and relaxing. The prices were very reasonable and we'd have no hesitation coming back for another visit. read more

Table side guacamole is a must and so is the quest flameado. Actually every food item we had was amazing. I had chicken mole enchiladas and loved them. My daughter and I split the Cesar salad which was made table side, the dressing from scratch. Boys had fajitas and we ended with flan. Everyone was full and very happy. The staff was very polite and accommodating. I highly recommend coming here. The only bad thing was the mosquitoes but they offered as much spray as we needed and a fan. read more

Know we didn't eat but just drink at Quinta de Piedra. We were looking for a place where we could sit outside, enjoy some cocktails but not have to scream over the music. This place fit the bill beautifully. They have a great drink menu- try the mezcal pepper drink. It came with chunks of pineapple and sour orange and was terrific. I had a martini here one night and it was the best one I had during my entire stay. We sat at the end of the bar which was perfect for conversation. The service is a little slow (by American standards) but everyone is super friendly and accommodating. And even the patrons are nice as one night we got to sing happy birthday to someone and then they shared their cake with us! Not sure how the food is, but if you are looking for a place to relax and have a great drink- this is your place! read more

We were walking along 5th Ave. and wanted to stop at a local place that didn't have insanely loud music or lots of crowds. The shaded patio here was perfect. The staff was friendly and attentive. We ordered the guacamole (handmade at our table and so good), chicken tacos, and chicken fajitas. Everything was delicious and tasted really fresh. The restrooms were clean as well, and their ice cubes were made from purified water. I am glad that we didn't read the other Yelp reviews beforehand or we probably would've skipped this place and missed out. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and would go here again! read more

Not sure why this restaurant has any bad reviews although any bad reviews are from awhile back. Stayed in playa del carmen for a month and ate here many times and it was always wonderful. One of my favorite places for breakfast. Chilaquiles come in a claypot and are piping hot. read more

From start to finish everything was great. The hostess was super friendly & welcoming & we got seated right away. The set up is super cute and they brought us coffee and a choice of pastry before we even ordered our food. Our server, Ivan, was excellent. He was very attentive and beyond friendly. A different server came to top our coffees often with delicious fresh brewed coffee. Three of us got their chilaquiles special (choice of red or green sauce) which comes with a side of huevos rancheros (over easy eggs with sauce on top) served atop a tortilla with a slice of deli ham, and a piece of steak. Delicious and very filling, definitely recommend. The fourth person got the eggs special which they also said was good. Bonus, the price was a steal, it was only $50 USD for us four, including a 20% tip. Overall, our experience was awesome, definitely recommend and definitely will be returning. read more

Extremely terrible service. So many places on La Quinta to stop at to enjoy some authentic mexican food and we had to walk into the absolute worst one. Definitely won't be recommending this place much less stopping here ever. From the food taking over an hour and thirty minutes. To the tasteless guacamole and cold enchiladas. Queso fundido was disgustingly cold. Maybe if the manager wasn't too busy watching the game we would have have a better experience. Es el más pésimo servicio que e recibido. This is not the same place that I reviewed a year ago. It still says Quinta de Piedra outside but the menus say different now. When we sad down we didn't know until we were handed the menus. The service literally has gone from amazing to really bad. They served my boyfriend lobster tail with not butter and we had to ask for it like 3 times. The food is not that great anymore. Quinta de Piedra had this beautiful presentation of their food. Like the plate was always decorated so nice. It looks nothing like that now. Honestly wouldn't come back here. read more

So, I was jonesing for some pollo enchiladas mole tonight and my lovely wife was thinking "Fajitas" Tex-Mex style and we had read about a little restaurant joint close by named "Quinta de Piedra" off 5th. This place is kinda hidden behind the Calle 34 & 5th street vendors, next to Chez Celine. The Stone Farm was a quaint, yet comfortable place surrounded by much local foliage. It had a modern, well mixed English & Spanish language jazzy soundtrack and huge fans to soothe the gringo tourists. The menu was a combination of traditional Mexican with a nice selection of Tex-Mex dishes. We started with the mandatory Guac & chips which was mixed tableside. While not a difficult dish to prepare, we both thought it was one of the better Guacs we had experienced in PDC. For our entrée, the impeccable Mrs. ordered chicken fajitas with flour tortillas and a side of black beans with a margarita, rocks no salt. For me, pollo chicken mole with rice and a cold Sol cerveza in a short, rocks glass please. While she told me all about her recent and incredibly interesting first PDC book club meeting, she enjoyed her fajitas, finishing the plate, beans and all. As I complained about our last place finish in Friday night's Trivia contest, I chowed down on the enchilada's mole. I've learned that there are many different styles and flavors of mole around Mexico, with every taste imaginable. My Texan & Mexican mole experience has included both very rich and savory plus some with more accent on heat and sweetness. This mole was more on the sweet side which went well with the chicken. The service was superb, both relaxed and attentive. Pricing was average, maybe better than most on 5th. We'd return to try more of the menu. read more

We just got to town and were wandering 5th St looking for a good place to eat dinner. A man showed us the menu and told us about a few items and we decided to try it. We ordered 2 glasses of cabernet and ordered a taco sample plate for an appetizer. They were street tacos 3 different kind, serving 2 each. They were wonderful and fresh. Then we both got Rib Eye steak. Get the 2 chili and honey rub steak, very good flavor and really tender meat. We had enough for leftovers and ate it again for lunch the next day. We liked this restaurant so much that we came back for breakfast the next morning, which was just as good. We really enjoyed our meal here. The setting is a charming garden on the busy 5th Avenue. The table-side prepared guacamole was a treat to watch being prepared and eat (so tasty-don't miss it). My husband and sons order extraordinary enchiladas, the sauce was very tasty. I was less fond of my beef street tacos as they the beef was not chopped but rather a big piece of steak (too big for me). But great experience overall and worth a visit. read more

Absolute worst service I have ever received. From the food taking over an hour to it arriving cold. Many complaints were made to the waiter and there was no manager in sight. Apparently all the waiters were the managers and there was nothing they could do. We had to return all our food to be reheated and we're still charged for it with not even a dessert on the house.
