Everything was wonderful. From the moment we got there, until we left the gentleman that seated us, it was absolutely terrific.

We must have gone on a bad day. First) google maps takes you to a neighborhood. Confused I called, and the woman said they "were in the country club at Mesa Golf Course" Second) Not being from the area we had no idea and found "Arizona golf course in Mesa" that must be it. Third) I pulled up the map from their web site. The map image showed like a two story apartment. We drove around the golf course and found no signage, drove past the lobby, cabana homes, apartments...so I called AGAIN. We were now 17 minutes late for our reservation. I was told we needed to go into the lobby. Then we would find a sign. Ok... We drove back to the lobby, stepped over a dead squirrel pancake on the way to the lobby door. But yes, once you get inside there was indeed a sign. Nothing outside. They apparently share a part of the restaurant in the clubhouse - which by the way the restaurant has a sign on the street. The woman who seated us was lovely and funny. We ordered the house tea and it came quickly, pre steeped, which is traditional if they bring the larger tea pot. The tiered tray came next. I had to ask if they served cream for their English tea (IYKYK) and I also asked for honey. We were brought a tiny partially filled samples jar of honey - just barely enough for 4 cups and I think half and half or whole milk. (Cream does not affect my stomach, but half and half Or milk do, so I can only base it on that) Like the rest of the valley they might be short staffed. The phone kept ringing. At some point someone yelled, "get the phone!" Um.... The house tea was not bad. It was a standard black tea. Way better than Lipton tea for sure. The tea sandwiches were all on very soft fluffy white bread, little filling, crusts cut off. They were not bad at all. Nothing exciting either. There was a mass market mini quiche. Wasn't bad. Was not fab either. The scones were dense and for some reason served ice cold. Like, they came out of a freezer and thawed ice cold. The clotted cream was unique. Not typical. Instead sweet like cream cheese frosting mixed with whipped cream. Neither my husband or myself are them. The macarons seemed...packaged? They were super sugary so we didn't them all. They were smaller than the standard Macaron. One was chocolate and one was almond. The petit four was good, strong vanilla but super sugary as well. The brownie bite also looked packaged, it was hard. If it lets me upload the video of me knocking my fork on it, you'll see how hard, The chocolate dipped strawberries were wonderful. The chocolate was a good chocolate with a lot of cocoa butter. What really saved the place was the cool building and the servers. Really sweet women. But it was way too much sugar and not enough of the savory portion. It was an experience but not a great one. Especially for around $75 for two people for a "snack" (which is what high tea is supposed to do, hold you over for dinner) That's the tea for two, taxes and tip. Quirky Royal Tea Room is definitely quirky if you're going by its location alone. Located in the dining room of the Arizona Golf Resort in Mesa. The service and tea were excellent. The sandwiches and scones were kind of average. If the scones were freshly baked and served with clotted cream this review would be much higher. Went a couple of weeks ago and was unfortunately really disappointed with the whole experience. As someone who is from an English family I wasn't expecting the full English experience but knowing the owners are from England had my hopes high for a fun English tea. Unfortunately what we received was an old, outdated empty high tea room hidden in the middle of a run down golf club, a limited menu, no water, and a lot of pre made food from Costco. The "clotted cream" which I mistakenly thought was butter at first by its appearance tasted less like clotted cream and more like cream cheese frosting and butter mixed together. The scones came out ice cold, as if they had just been defrosted, and were so dry I actually couldn't swallow it. Maybe I could have if they had any water. The tea came out pre-steeped, which is fine if only it wasn't over steeped. The finger sandwiches included : Egg salad with paprika (not a traditional egg with cress), apple and cheese, ham and cheese with mayo, and cucumber and dill (the closest to authentic sandwich there). So for $80 you can get subpar American style high tea with some Costco premade food, cold scones, fake clotted cream and over steeped tea. read more

This was a fun moderately priced tea room. I had a pot of blueberry lavender tea which I enjoyed, and the house tea was also very nice. (The tea service comes with about 1 1/2 cups of tea.). The scones were good, the strawberry jam great! The "clotted cream" wasn't what I was expecting, it was a bit more like (and may have been) sweetened condensed milk, which worked but was too sweet for me personally. The desserts were all very good quality and tasted really well done. My husband tried what i brought home and said they were "amazing" They had some nice classical music playing and nice china tea sets, The tea sandwiches were simply made. My friend and I had a nice chat and a good time. The service was great as well. There wasn't much to criticize to be honest, but if I had to find fault (which I don't, but I love making suggestions!). The table for two was just a tad too small to fit the large amount of food and the tea pots and stuff, not a huge deal but if it was scant 4" longer it would have been perfect! And the desserts were all amazing for what they were, but had I not been a lover of great chocolate desserts, (thinking of my mum here), I should have liked a few more non-chocolate, because every single dessert the day I came had chocolate in it. So like a lemon selection perhaps or something with fruit maybe would have added a variety so my mom might come next time. I have been to teas at alot of fancy hotels. I'm 9 months pregnant and wanted some one on one time with my mom. I surprised her with a tea luncheon here and she was absolutely ecstatic. We had such a wonderful time chatting, admiring each unique tea set, and enjoying the delicious caramel apple tea. I could have eaten about 10 scones, the clotted cream and jam made them addicting. Aneka served us, she was very pleasant and always made sure we had what we needed. Mark, the owner, was awesome - he made sure to chat with each table and make them feel welcome. 1st off they moved from the historic golf course location 8 months ago according to what Aneka the hostess and only server told us when we arrived. However on their website and on Yelp it is still showing the inside of the golf course which is extremely deceiving. We had visited 2 times before while located in the historic golf course so that is what they are still portraying on line to bring people in when in reality it's a huge disappointment when expecting the beautiful ambiance and walking into a sub par establishment. I had a hard time finding it as I was looking for the previous beautiful location with rose gardens outside of this gorgeous historic golf course and Google maps brought me to this strange unfamiliar location. It is now located in a strip mall. Very small and cramped inside. Decor looked like it was just haphazardly thrown together, no ambiance at all. They used to have different styles of beautiful china cups on each table setting and now each table has matching teacup sets, no cloth napkins,now paper napkins. We opted for 2 different flavored teas and instead on being in beautiful tea pots they looked like the small ceramic tea pots you see at a diner. The 2 prior times my daughter has gone with my now 8 year old granddaughter (I joined them one of those times) my granddaughter was given the choi of choosing a few sandwiches from the "Little Ones" menu. This time when Aneka asked what tea we would like my sister had just left to use the ladies room and I told Aneka I wasn't sure which tea she'd like. Yet she didn't Ofer to come back in a few minutes once my sister returned to our table so I picked a tea she had enjoyed last spring when we attended in the historic golf course. I inquired about my granddaughters sandwich choices and she replied they don't do that for a tea of 3 but she would allow her 1 sandwich choices and this time (only plus for the whole experience). Granddaughter doesn't like tea so ordered hot chocolate which Aneka added milk to it to cool it down but never asked in advance if this was ok to do. It watered the hot chocolate down. And we were charged an extra $3 for the hot chocolate. In the past it was considered a substitute for tea and no extra charge was applied. The tea in our tea pots were luke warm when it arrived. Good flavor those. As far as food goes, all is store bought, most likely frozen and thawed, nothing is made fresh there. Mini quiche was cold not warm. Sandwiches were minuscule with while Wonderbread taste and having a thin spread of Brie with paper thin cucumbers between. All sandwiched were thinly filled where it was hard to taste the flavor of the filling. I'm a baker having had my our bakery for 30 years and the scones were a huge disappointment. Nothing like the moist flavor packed scones I've made over the years. These were dry, dense and flavorless, no nice crumb. Stuck to the roof and inside of my mouth as I chewed it. Their only saving grace was the supposed clotted cream which was not clotted cream but a thick pastry buttery spread. The preserves were definitely from a jar, tasted like Smuckers. What we received 1 each of following: 1 mini two bite but for some 1 bite quiche, chocolate covered strawberry, I store bought 1-2 bite vanilla Petit four, 1-2 bite mini lemon crumble coffee cake, 1 bite macaron, 3 sandwiches each about 2 inches long x 1 inch wide, 1 Brie with paper thin sliced apple, 1 cream cheese with paper thin sliced cucumber and 1 egg salad.plus 1 very dry scone. Bill came to $106 without tip. Ridiculous!!!! When my sister politely inquired about the bill Aneka said other places are chsrging $100 per per so for tea. This is a falsehood as I came home and researched other tea houses and their prices are not $100 per person. When asked why they haven't updated their website pictures and that it is deceiving Aneka said we've been doing this for 8 years and know what we are doing. Also the restroom is a 1 stall set up for both men and women. You get there by going through a black curtain and down a hall with shelves of cookware and such. We were beyond disappointed and will never ever return or recommend this establishment. It is bait and switch scheme. read more

I went here to celebrate a friend's birthday. The service was great and it was a cute tea setup. I've been to my fair share of high teas in the Phoenix and Seattle area so this review is coming from my personal opinion/comparing to other tea rooms I've visited. The food was just okay to me. The cucumber sandwiches tasted different than other ones I've had- it could've been because the cucumber wasn't peeled? I personally wasn't a fan. I also thought that the macarons and Madeline cookies tasted like the ones from Costco. Not that it's bad, but I was expecting more. Found this place online, made a reservation an hour or two before we went. We booked online, then called, the process was very simple and they were very kind over the phone. When we went in, there was very subtle music and we were greeted very kindly. We got the Full Afternoon Tea for Two. The tea was delicious and the food was very filling. We've tried twice to try this new tea room but sadly have been unable to due to the poor management The first time was more of an on the spot decision to go for tea and a scone. I checked the website and saw nothing about reservations required, and noted their phone message said "reservations recommended." So we went, only to be told once we got there that they could not serve us with no reservation, supposedly because they only make enough food for their reservations. Really?! We were only going for two cups of tea and 1-2 scones!!!! Fast forward a few weeks and I called to make a reservation. Although there is a place to leave a message, their phone message says they do not retrieve messages from this number. Instead, the message tells you to call back later or directs you to their website. It also gives you an email address so you can send them a message. After calling back three more times throughout the morning/afternoon, I decided to send them a message at the gmail address on their voice mail. I asked for a reservation the next day at 3PM. This was at 2:45PM on a Thursday. At 8:10 PM Thursday night I received a response from Mark saying "Sure", and asking if we could come a bit earlier, at 2:30. I responded in the affirmative. So today (Friday) we showed up at 2:15 for our 2:30 reservation. After standing at the podium for at least five minutes, a lady finally acknowledged us. When I told her we had a reservation at 2:30 she looked puzzled and said she didn't have my name down for a reservation. I explained that I had an email from Mark that I thought confirmed the reservation, but she clearly didn't care, countering that she monitors the reservations and she got nothing from me. We explained that we only planned on having tea and a scone. Again, we were told they had nothing to feed us without a reservation. Her arrogance was noteworthy. She did not apologize or even attempt to accommodate us. (We noted that there were TWO tables occupied in the huge dining room.) I was so excited to see a tea room open up near my home but we won't be going back for a third try. Nobody likes to be treated disrespectfully, and I find it hard to believe that they don't have extra tea and 1-2 scones for situations like this. First time here, established is old and smells old. Service was non-existent. One girl serving the whole place and every eye was on her. So sad. I even tried to pay and waited 30 mins for server at which point I almost walked out. Sandwiches are very light and cheap. Tea was mid. Had to ask for tea spoons and cream. Water was not offered. Our sandwich tier had some small hairs on them. We laughed because they looked like eyelashes. Someone was in back crying because of how understaffed they were. Scones are dense and not served with typical clotted cream, instead it was served with a liquid frosting, not good at all. Macarons and quiche are from Costco. Really lovely and affordable full English tea. Sandwiches were yummy and the scones were very authentic to England-- slightly sweet with a firm crumb and able to hold shape and condiments without flaking. Clotted cream is made in house and extremely delicious. We had the dessert tea which came recommended by our waitress and very much enjoyed it. The owner came to talk to our table and check up on us, he was a very sweet man who obviously cares a lot about the business and customer satisfaction. Overall the staff were very attentive and we were checked up on multiple times throughout our visit. Told the staff we were celebrating a birthday and even received a wonderful free gift! Would absolutely come again. The people and the food are worth the visit. They did not have the tea on the menu. They did not have any lemons. 2. They advertised scones, quiche and the scones were as hard as a rock and NO flavor either.
