This restaurants ambiance gave the feeling of a back alley Parisian restaurant and even more so with the rain. It felt like a movie. The service was phenomenal, all of the waiters, waitresses, and the hostess were all very passionate about the food and the flavors that the chef created and gave excellent recommendations! My party got a multitude of items. Escargots: The escargots were delicious, definitely a must try if you're on the fence about it. The green sauce that it's cooked in was akin to a pesto and it and the escargot itself were delicious with the additional bread. Gougeres: The gougeres were puffy, cheesy, and delicious! Absolute must order for an appetizer! I was so disappointing when my party had eaten them all. Soup du jour: The butternut squash soup with apple crisps was delectable and savory. The apple crisps were like a hidden burst of flavor inside the soup, I really wish there were more than the 5 I had. I also came in with a bit of a cough, so the soup helped to soothe my sore throat. Poulet Facon "Coq au vin": This was fall off the bone delicious! I didn't even need to use a knife, the chicken meat just separated from the bone and the au jus, mashed potatoes, mushrooms, and carrots were an absolutely sumptuous treat! Noix De St Jacques: The scallops were delicious and cooked to perfection and the acorn squash risotto was so savory. It was a delight to eat! Ris De Veau Roti: The veal sweetbreads with fingerling potatoes. This dish had a texture akin to bone marrow or liver to me. Since I love both of those items, I loved this dish. Creme brulee: Creme brûlée as a dessert option never fails, and this one was no exception. It was yummy! Pear tart: This was the best dessert we ordered! It was flaky, not overly sweet, and overall an absolute treat to eat. I've been here a few times and it's never my first choice, but it's reliable. For COVID, they've opened up their outside tent to allow more space for tables. I didn't see any heaters, so bring a jacket! They make some menu changes from time to time (seasonally?), while a lot of items remain the same. We ordered a few appetizers for the table, the most notable being the oysters. For an entree, I ordered the Bluefin tuna steak (rare) that came paired with a small salad. The portion was a tad small for me, even after indulging in some bites earlier, but the flavors were nice, not too bold. The peaches in the salad complemented it well. Service is good, but can be iffy. Twice we tried to get our server's attention and they walked right past us, eyes averted. Two separate staff members also swiftly cleared a couple dishes that still had food on them without asking if we were finished. We were deep in conversation at the time, so didn't notice until it was too late. Corkage is $25/750ml. Again, not my go-to, but I'm sure a future gathering will bring me back. read more

Point Blank, the food I had here was better than the food I had in Paris. The Beef Cheek and Steak/Frits were perfect. The service was attentive, friendly and not pretentious. They were not shy on what they recommend and, trust me, listen to them. The Ambience gave me the vibe of a cozy French cafe on the inside and a garden terrace on the outside. I ordered the steak fritte and it doesn't of all was not inexpensive at all. I was extremely disappointed as the cut of meat was terrible. It was a huge slab of meat with what seems like Worcestershire sauce on top and the entire steak was full of fat and gristle. What a disappointment. I Clío so have bought a really good cut of meat and Diablo Foods for less than what they charged. To be fair the service was good. Our server was very sweet. I didn't complain a the time because the meat was so large I had it boxed up and ate it when I got home. every single bite had gristle!!! read more

Even though I've only visited Reve once, they will always have a special place in my heart! I reached out to Reve via email in a panic in early January 2022 when my company's holiday party venue closed very quickly due to COVID, as was very prevalent at that time - we needed a venue for our group and we needed it quickly! And with only 2 days notice, Reve was able to accommodate our group and I worked with owner Laura to create what was a truly wonderful night! Laura quickly sent me over their menu for us to make some selections to put together a limited personal menu for our party, and made the inspired suggestion as well of pre-ordering some starters so that it would all be ready to go and we would have food to enjoy with our wine and cocktails without the wait. The guests praised that suggestion all night, it felt so luxurious! The day of our party, we were seated outside in their lovely patio garden area, and were very warm and well protected. I loved the flowers and lights making it all so festive and celebratory! We ordered our cocktails and a few bottles of wine quickly, and our pre-ordered apps came out minutes later. Also without any request or discussion, our company name was printed at the top of our menus. Now THAT is great care and service. Finally, the food! I think I talk about their French onion soup every day, it's remarkable. I also especially enjoyed their oysters and charcuterie. I did enjoy my steak & frites, but nothing could top their mussels we shared as a group - that gorgeous broth! I wish I could have tried every entree, but everyone was very very happy and that's all that matters. We had such a lovely time at Reve - it felt intimate and special, and the food and libations flowed so happily I think we became that table that everyone was happy to see finally walk out. We came to RÊVE Bistro for Valentine's Day (reservations were made a couple weeks in advance). There was a sign outside the restaurant's entry that they will not be taking any walk-ins that day, pretty cool to keep it strictly reservation based for such a busy holiday night. Their Valentine's Day "special 2020 menu" was just their normal every day menu just printed again with a different title?? Seems like a waste of paper. What I did not enjoy was that we were seated outside in their tent. Oof the decor was really tacky and outdated, so I was immediately disappointed in the ambiance especially for a romantic dinner. The tables were also spaced very closely together in the tent so it wasn't as private as we would have hoped. We started with an order of the gougères. Delicious, warm little cheese puffs. I also had the soupe à l'oignon gratinée AKA the classic french onion soup, which was decent nothing out of the usual. Noix St Jacques et homard fricassée was a mixture of large scallops and lobster along with soft pillowy truffle potato gnocchi and mushrooms. Both the scallops and lobster were cooked perfectly. I enjoyed this dish and the lobster truffle sauce brought it all together. Noisettes de chevreuil poélées is a hearty plate of venison medallions over celery root puree with a dollop of lingonberry sauce and veggies. Unfortunately, venison can be too gamey if not cooked properly so I did not care for it's rich, earthy taste. read more

First off the food quality is very high, you can tell they use excellent ingredients. I had the scallops and my only criticism is I would have liked a little more sear on them. Oysters were great, Onion soup was good. The server was friendly enough but not outstanding. The service was good though with all the correct silverware being swapped in depending on the course and what you were eating. My biggest complaint is the "heated patio", I was cold the whole evening. They have small heaters going but barely enough to warm the place. Another customer was sat in his coat. I buttoned up my jacket and was still cold. I also wasn't thrilled with the outside area, no real ambiance as you sit under a plastic tent. I would go back but only if I could sit inside. Price is high but a quality product is there plus I'm sure the Lafayette rent is high. read more

We think this is one of the best restaurants in the east bay. We usually don't go for French unless it's higher end but man did we like our meal. Literally everything was perfect. The frites were crispy and salty. The veal sweetbreads were soft and tender. The quail was tender and a gamy, just how we like it. The mussels were in a great white wine sauce with lemon, parsley and olive oil. Perfect for dipping bread in. The chicken was cooked just right. We also ordered a couple appetizers. The artichoke dip was hot and creamy. Lots of chunks of artichoke. The escargot was tender and still had some bite. Drenched in butter and garlic sauce. My boyfriend brought me here for our date night and it was such a pleasant surprise! I've never been to a French restaurant, especially one that was Michelin starred. When we came in, the waitress informed us that they just implemented the new Fall menu, and we were so excited to see it! The first thing I noticed about the restaurant was how friendly our waitress was! The waitress was an sweet old woman who clearly was experienced as she answered all of our questions about the menu and which wines to pair which food with. The food was quite a new experience since there are not a lot of French restaurants in my area and I came here being open-minded. This was the first place I've ever had escargot and I was stunned on how delicious it was! If you're afraid of eating snails- don't! The texture was tender and slightly chewy and it paired well with the fresh pesto and rich butter which made it it an earthy and flavorful dish. Personally my favorite dish on the menu! I didn't take a picture of the French onion soup, but I wish I did because of how good it looked and tasted! We only ordered a single bowl for us to share, and we were quite surprised and ecstatic the waitress gave us two bowls instead! We both were able to enjoy our own bowls at our own pace thanks to the waitress and the restaurant's generosity. The soup wasn't overwhelmingly salty like other restaurant's that i've been to; therefore, I was able to appreciate the caramelized onions and the toasted gruyère cheese. Now into the entrees, we had to ask the waitress about what veal sweetbreads are since we wanted to order the ris de veau vol-au-vent. Apparently, veal sweetbreads are the thymus gland of the veal! Totally weirded out, although I totally wanted to try it and that's exactly what we did. The puff pastry with fresh vegetables and topped with a rich creamy sauce paired so well with the light veal sweetbreads. It was such a unique dish! We also ordered the Branzini farci and I never had branzino before. The brown butter sauce didn't stand out to me in the dish, so it felt I was just eating the branzino. Nonetheless, the branzini itself was not fishy at all, and the meat tasted fresh. It had a light, flaky texture and mild flavor. The salty capers brought the taste out more. Overall, I was indifferent about the branzino, but since it was a high quality fish, I still give it points. The desserts were so mouthwatering! The apple tarte was so different from any other apple tarts that I had. The apple filling wasn't chunky and it was the smoothest apple filling i've ever had! The ile flottonte was also great. The soft meringue was like biting into a cloud and the pistachios were roasted which gave the dish a robust flavor. The vanilla cream and caramel sauce also complimented the dish greatly. My favorite part about these dishes was that it wasn't overwhelmingly sweet, yet you can still satisfy your sweet tooth! Overall, Reve stands out with its gourmet seasonal and unique dishes that you can't get at most places. The prices for most dishes, with the exception of a few appetizers, were above $20; so be aware to spend a large sum of money. You do get your money's worth because the portions were plentiful and I was quite full at the end of the meal. An improvement I would give is to let customers know in advance whether it be website or in person that it is a timed reservation because I didn't want to feel like I was in a rush when I was trying to enjoy my evening. We always have an excellent time at Reve. Our first visit to a fine-dining restaurant the past four months was rewarded with a fantastic supper. At the door, we were greeted, and shortly thereafter, we were shown to our seats. The staff members all wore masks and shown the appropriate level of attention for hygiene. There was no way that our supper of gougères, salad with strawberries, scallops that had been grilled, and steak-fries could have been any better. My partner enjoyed some delicious scallops that had been grilled and served with risotto made with mushrooms, and I opted for some soft venison that had been cooked to perfection. After indulging in some great fries, we were unable to make room for dessert. Our server, was extremely wonderful. The event was made better by the French wines that were served. Both the white and the red wines from Sancerre and Beaumes-de-Venise (Côte du Rhône) were delicious, and we had them by the glass. However, parking was a problem. It was crazy to find a parking in the area, took us almost 30 minutes. We also went on a Friday night but it was packed with customers and we did not enjoy it to the fullest. I realize sweetbreads are not for everyone; however, they are definitely for me! Rêve frequently has sweetbreads on their menu. The preparation and sides may vary; the quality and flavor do not! They are SO good! My husband and friends have raved about other menu items at Rêve; nevertheless, I will always order the sweetbreads. Reve is as great and amazing as all the majority yelpers have said. A little unassuming restaurant in Lafayette packs a big punch when it comes to quality, service and the just deliciousness of the food. Made reservations via Opentable, very easy. Hubby and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary. FYI Reve only books 30 days out (I tried to make a reservation for my birthday already but couldn't :D). Outdoor seating is tented, and super cozy. Our waitress was really attentive and sweet. The food. OMG. The food is really that good considering the value and quality. The quality of food served could easily have an increased menu of at least $10-$15, but please don't do this Reve!! We ordered: escargot, french onion soup, veal, squab and lava cake. We cleaned our plates. The escargot was perfectly balanced with garlic and salt, and the escargots seemed fresh, like I really had to dig in there to get the sucker out. I think some places use pre-made/pre-shelled and then just stuff them into the shell. It did not seem to be the case at Reve, and if it was, fooled me! We used our bread to dip the remaining sauce. French onion soup was one of the best I've had. It did not taste out of a can/box. The onions were nicely caramelized and brought out the depth in the soup. Because we shared it, Reve separated our one order into two cups so we could each have our own cheese/crouton topping. I did not expect this at all, and it's extra steps like this that makes Reve extraordinary. The hubby got the veal, and I tried a few bites. It was very good, full of flavor and tender. It was accompanied by french gnocchi (not made with potato), and it was way better than italian gnocchi). I had the squab, and it was the best squab I've had. I've eaten a lot of squab prepared in the Chinese method of cooking, and this was better. The squab was not gamey, tender and full of flavor. Tender. Over a bed of risotto something, which I couldn't get enough of. You bet I took each drumette in my finger and nibbled all the meat I could. Thank you for not leaving those off the plate! I really loved how each plate of food came out hot. The temperature was perfect. The chef and the team really gave special attention to each plate, and it was brought out to our table immediately upon completion. The lava cake was a perfect ending to the meal. If we had room in our stomach, would have had the apple tart too. The food was so good, and because we dived right in, I totally forgot to take pictures! I can't wait to come back. We went to Rêve expecting to have a special meal because of the good reviews. We made an early reservation for four people. The first disappointment was when we were ushered to a table adjacent to the entry while the entire restaurant was empty. We had to ask to be seated at another table. Food was mediocre at best, and certainly didn't justify the high price. Service was decent, but the "special of the day" that the server recommended, which was duck, was gamy, undercooked, chewy, and tasteless. Ambiance was 4 on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being best). And then, to make up for the experience, we were asked to leave, because "the other party arrived." Thanks a lot... not going there again. read more

Went here for Mom's bday on a random Tuesday night, it was freezing, but the staff had put out heat lamps for everyone. It's a very small place, indoors, and some outdoor seating. I usually don't crave or go to French Cuisine but it was surprisingly good! I had the braised chicken, not sure or remember what it's called but it was delicious. We had some snails and the server recommended a really good wine! I believe, followed up throughout the meal and was very kind when I dropped a utensil and brought me extra aioli :) - French fries: warm, crispy, and salty, moist on the inside, but really great texture on the outside (served with mussels, get the super-size if you're ok with extra salt) - My friend's lamb entree: she said it was very tender - Bathrooms have a lot of French imagery and inspirational quotes :) - Butter with bread was presented nicely Middle: - Escargots: I liked the texture of mine (chewy, good buttery flavors), but my friend said they tasted too overdone/not good texture in his opinion Cons: - Mussel wine sauce was a bit bland and the fries were wayyy too salty! We ordered escargot, pate, olives, gazpacho, onion soup, sweetbreads, moules molinare, scallops. Sublime! Also tried chocolate mousse and crème brûlée for dessert. Every item was well seasoned, beautifully presented, flavorful, and fresh. Scallops were particularly well seasoned and cooked to perfection. As a native New Yorker who is an adventurous eater, I really appreciate that there was sweetbreads on the menu! So hard to find anywhere. Also love that the menu is seasonal. Can't wait to see what is available in autumn. I also appreciate there were nonalcoholic beverages available. The nonalcoholic rose was wonderful. Another plus is my party was the last to leave the restaurant and not once did we feel rushed. Sophie was a delight, chatted with us, and let us leave at our own pace. Excellent upmarket outdoor dining option in the Lamorinda area! The ambience they've built up in their patio is divine - string lights, turf, and adorable bistro tables. We've only visited during COVID but I hope this is something they continue to offer post-COVID! The menu is, like most bistros, not particularly vegetarian friendly, but for the omnivores out there, they have a solid selection of steak, venison, duck, and seafood. Dessert was also delicious. Try and compare with last year and post your review. I was disappointed both in service and quality of the food and dessert. We asked to share the salad and it came on one plate, I asked the server to split the salad and he said he is not good at splitting a salad, that was unexpected. Then the meat of steak had a lower quality and the fries were way too salty. I wonder if the chef had a bad day!!! Have to go back and try again. Unfortunately when I get disappointed, it takes time before I ease up and give it another go. We mentioned it and the management did not charge the desert even though we did not expect it. That was very nice but I prefer to pay full tab and receive what I expect. read more

Everything from the greeting where the hostess is working so hard with all the team to all the staff running around trying to help and getting seated and taken care of by waiter was great. Had 3 orders of Gougeres which are savory cheesy cream puffs and the best thing in the world (but not stuffed with anything). The busboy told us he likes them too after we embarrassingly accepted 3rd order. Pate countryside style I thought was just ok, seemed a bit watery to me, but maybe it was the slice I got. We had 2 great glasses of white wine. Then we had the salad which was delicious and the veal steak for 2 that was incredible. Peach for dessert was good. Waiter was incredible. The escargot looked very similar to Whole Foods which are only $1 each. Price point at Reve was $16 for 6. Price aside, we don't want the same things we could make at home when we go out! I'm sure this place is fine for locals but not worth it for us who drove half an hour to try it. We rather drive a little further to Napa. We actually had Bouchon earlier that week and that was worth it. Side note: Not sure how other nights are but on the Saturday night we were there, it was 90% seniors. Reve is reminiscent of the bistros in France. I'm always so happy after each visit, but I'm surprised I haven't written a review. Reve has indoor and outdoor seating and offers a seasonal menu. You can always count on duck, coq au vin, and scallops to be on the menu with a seasonal preparation. We went recently on a warm fall evening and opted to eat outdoors. I highly recommend coming here because it's quaint yet charming. It's definitely a solid meal and worth the visit. read more
