We usually come down to Pine Ave but just recently noticed R Bar off to the side so we decided to take a look. For a gastropub, it's a nice place. There's one long bar shaped liked a U with a few tables on the sides and at the end plus some patio seats. We were here to watch some NFL so while sitting at the bar, we had to tilt our head up to watch the screens in front of us. Kind of became uncomfortable after a while. Next time we'll probably sit at the tables. Food wise we tried the Beef Dip which wasn't bad, probably give it a solid B for a grade. Service was hit and miss, some bartenders were cool, others you had to wave your hand to get acknowledged. We would definitely come again though. read more

Something for everyone here. It has a trendy hipster look overall but has lots of TVs for sports. The menu is similar in that way and has everything from avo toast to chicken wings. Bonus points for shuffle board in my opinion and a digital jukebox so everyone can be happy with the music. Friendly service and nice wine and beer selection. read more

I went on a Friday night to enjoy a local spot that has a great outdoor seating area. My first waiter was excellent and recommended some drinks they sounded exactly what we wanted. And we were enjoying the cool night and atmosphere. Then we ordered some food. Unfortunately it well all downhill from there. The Poutine is garbage and the options that go with it are very unappealing. The gravy is a water brown liquid and the melted shredded cheese they put on top of a cheap pile of french fries is just gross. Nothing of quality like the late Tavern on 2 and their amazing short rib poutine with crumbled cheese curds. Trying to enjoy the night, we overlooked that and just chalked up to cheap bar food, except R Bar is definitely trying to be something more, but just failing at it. We gave a waitress an order for wings to try and salvage the appetizer letdown with that poutine that was brought out. She took the order and we waited. The waitress that brought our food never checked on us if we needed anything else, if we were enjoying the poutine, if we wanted more drinks, she simply disappeared. We waited on the wings for over 45 minutes, until I got a hold of a different waitress, because the waitress that brought out the poutine finally showed up but was too busy having bullshit conversations with people to check on us. The new waitress apologized and stated the order was put in but didnt know why we didnt get ours. I mentioned other people ahead of us got their food, but to just cancel it and give us the check. Ordered a light snack of buffalo cauliflower and french fries for delivery. ETA of 5 o'clock was reasonable. I called at 530 to inquire, the phone rang and rang and rang. Called back twice more to no avail. Disappointed in delivery service scammer and poor customer service on the part of the restaurant. read more

Awesome bar! We came to watch a boxing fight and the place was PACKED. Even with all the people, we never waited longer than a couple minutes for a drink and there were TVs every where, so we weren't battling for a clear view. Drinks were great, staff was on point and the overall vibe of the bar was super fun. We loved it and will definitely be back!! read more

Very disappointed in this place came out to try it and everything was going well at first, but as the night went on it got worse. We ordered poutine fries which were good, but the we put in an order for chicken wings. 45 minutes later still never received them but the table next to us got theirs within 15 minutes after walking in. Nobody ever came by to check on us after that when we finally were able to track a server down to inform them what happened. they said the order was placed but don't know what happened to it. I dont think I'll be coming back anytime soon. read more

Come to eat and drink With friends, order chicken tenders they came dry no side, the description of it says "with your choice of sauce" but didn't say you had to pay extra to even get that sauce. Like who the heck sells chicken tenders and says you have to pay for the sauce separately? When I did ask for the sauce the server became flippant like it was our fault that we didn't know we had to ask for it. Like, bro if you don't like your job don't take it out on the people who are trying to enjoy a night out. So now I'm sitting here , with dry chicken tenders and no sauce and it's getting cold. Yes. Disgruntled bartender doesn't like serving black people. Threw another temper tantrum taking my order and making my drink. The 1st interaction wasn't as blatant and obvious as this one. He's very intentional about who he serves and ignores. Some quick tips to help you cope with that unconscious bias and get you over the hurdle of serving people you dont like: 1. Money is green 2. If you don't like what you're doing, quit! read more

This is our favorite new bar in downtown Long Beach. The vibe is very chill, very classy at the same time. I hosted my husbands 50th there. The managent and staff V and Bridgette are so kind, welcoming and above all so professional. I did not have to worry about anything, they were ontop of every detail. The food is delicious and they have a great selection of IPA beers along with full liquor menu. Stopped in with some friends after work for a quick one. Walking up, I was already excited because the decor outside looked so cute! (It's the little things!). Cool outdoor seating and a really neat display of water vapor that looks like super rad flames. Then when you walk in there is a huge bar top that wraps around the center of the bar, awesome booths, ugh! I love the decor and vibe of this place. The owner was there and walking around chatting with people, loved that! He is such a sweet guy with positive energy. There was some drink/beer specials, which was rad, but not as rad as the bartender, Eric! He's awesome! I'm looking forward to returning and hopefully on Eric's shift! read more

Love this place! The crew here is the coolest, from Rick the owner, Barnaby the GM, Brigitte, Adam,and Dexter, and Varush or "V, like Virgin" they're all just getting started. The music is the right volume and kept us bouncing and rocking the whole time. I loved the genre they were playing (90's hip hop)! Get in here and watch the multitude of big screen TVs, and enjoy some of this great grub. Along with our drinks, we had the wings, the bruschetta, and the Italian wedding soup. We were very happily impressed. More awesome is coming, too! read more

We had passed by R Bar too many times to count during the construction process, excited for the prospect of a true neighborhood bar to move in, especially to watch sports games. We went for the first time for the Champions League final and it did not disappoint. Plenty of TVs, no bad place to sit to get a good view, and good, cheap beers on tap. The food wasn't too bad either -- pretty standard bar fare, some interesting options, but good all-in-all. I spoke with one of the owners hoping this would be the new spot to watch the Dodgers but he said they were unable to get them with their cable package. I don't fault them for this though due to so few places having the ability to show the games, would have just been an added perk. I look forward to going back, either for the next big game or for a couple drinks with friends. It's the kinda bar that should be good in any situation. read more

We were here on their first night soft opening. The drinks were good and affordable. We waited awhile for the drive is though. Nice area to chill and hang out with Friends. Can be real loud and rowdy in there so be prepared to yell. read more

Came to LB for the weekend to celebrate my Fiancé's birthday and most bars and restaurants are closed early and have had poor customer service. We stumbled upon R bar just walking around to see where we could grab some drinks to celebrate and hang out. I was pleased that this bar was not only open, but that the service at the bar was quick and friendly, and by chance, we got to meet the owner Rick who so graciously walked up to us and introduced himself to us. He thanked us for coming in but we were so thankful ourselves just to be able to grab a seat and enjoy drinks when most bars here are closed. So I've been here twice since covid and had the pleasure of Stephanie being my server and bartender. And let me tell you, not only is she immaculate with service, but her bartending skills are off the chart! Came in telling her we want a spicy yet delicious margarita and she damn delivered with this spicy watermelon margarita. It tastes straight like those sour candies. I did meet a new friend, which was a highlight, but now I know to enjoy my time there early and head out when the second shift starts.

It's very sad to see him in pain knowing the restaurant did not take his allergy seriously and misinformed him. To the owners and staff members please take food allergies seriously. I even still gave the server a respectable tip. Sadly she could have received twice as much because I used to serve when I was much younger. My wife is a Dorector in the Hospitality industry and she loves giving extra. I understand the struggle but if she was as charismatic as Kori she could make more and really add to the restaurant. Needless to say we will not make the hour and 15 minute drive again.

We stopped into R Bar to catch the Mariners game and had such a great time! Even though we were from out of town, we immediately felt welcomed -- the atmosphere was friendly and full of good vibes. The food was fantastic -- flavorful, fresh, and clearly made with care. But what really made the night special were Courtany and Diana. They were both absolutely amazing -- warm, attentive, and fun to talk with. You can tell they genuinely care about making sure everyone has a great experience. Went on opening night, so granted, things were rough and I give them the benefit of the doubt. The music was so loud PLUS there were TVs on full blast at the same time, so I couldn't hear anything. We ordered beer and food, but never got the food. Server denied that we ordered it, so we paid for the beer and left. Not a good experience. People smoke on the outside bar in front, but since the front is open, the smoke comes into the back. I will try to come back and hopefully re-up my review, but every time I've tried to go I've taken one step in the door and walked back out due to the noise level (even without a large crowd) and the stink of cigarettes. read more

We walked in and told the hostess there were two of us; she just said "sit anywhere" without showing us to a table or explaining how things worked. We sat in a booth for a while -- no menus, no server, nothing. My friend was very drunk and badly needed water, so eventually I went up to the bar myself to ask how it worked. Turns out you order everything at the bar -- but nobody tells you that up front. I had to go up three separate times: once to figure out the system and get waters, once to place our food order, and again later just to get a water refill. That last refill was the most frustrating part. The bartender who'd helped us earlier saw me standing at the end of the bar and just walked away. I waited and waited, didn't want to be that person yelling over other customers, and eventually another bartender helped me out. It really wasn't busy that night either, especially for a night with a whole festival happening nearby, so there wasn't a good excuse for it. On the plus side: my hamburger was genuinely really good, and the whole meal for two came out to about $30 -- the cheapest we ate the entire trip. My friend got a tomato pesto cheese sandwich, though he was too far gone to give me a real opinion on it. Food gets a thumbs up, but the lack of any real table service and being ignored at the bar soured the whole experience. Probably won't be back unless I hear the service has improved.
