A great spot for soul food. excellent ribs, tasty green beans, mac & cheese was a little smoky, which I liked, I'm used to sausage in my red beans and rice, but this was still very good. Cornbread was very good. First time for sweet potato pie, not a big fan of sweet potato fries, but but as a pie good stuff. First time going that felt very welcomed we totally recommend. Seat inside was limited, but I took my food to go, but it was clean.

This review is well overdue !!!! I have been coming here off and on for years and the quality has always stayed consistent . this is my favorite Soulfood spot in all of LA and inland empire that I have ever tried. This is the closest plate I can get that reminds me of my southern families cooking. I love the service and it always smells so good when im waiting for my food. The staff does not beat around the bush and they are straight to the point to get you the perfect plate until you come back!! bonus points because I never have to ask for hot sauce for my chicken unlike other places! they know whats up.

WOW, I absolutely loved the oxtails. The meat was so tender and juicy. And the greens were perfectly seasoned. Everything was amazing. And the food was ready quick. Warm friendly staff, clean inviting space. Would definitely come back!

We googled around the area to find a soul place as we were taking my niece prom shopping. R-Kitchen came up and we decided to give it a try! Its a cozy and small on the inside. We sat at one of the smaller table with 3 of us, and it was perfect just for us! We ordered 2 oxtail lunch and 1 friend chicken lunch. Our sides were mac and cheese, mash potato's, & potato salad, nothing but carbs for our family LOL. The oxtail and gravy were a hit over the rice, super delicious. The mac and cheese was seasoned to our liking and it was not dry. The chicken was extra crispy and not dry at all. The mash potato was a bit bland for me & the potato salad was very pickley... But overall everything was amazing! To the AMAZING CAHSIER who took our order yesterday, thank you for being super friendly and recommending cakes and Kool-Aid. I must say, THE KOOL-AID WAS A SUPER HIT... We ended up getting 1 and left with 2 because it was that good. Reminded me of when we were little and that's what our parents to make in the fridge. Our cashier made the experience so much better by just being polite and very welcoming. All I can say is WOW. WOW to it all. The staff were very nice and helpful with recommendations. The wait was reasonable for the food amount that we ordered. It is a MUST that you order a sweet. Because they warm it up for you. We tried the banana pudding-- very fresh--& the peach cobbler. We also ordered the gumbo and fried chicken with greens. The Mac and cheese --- you have to order. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, but the food was just average. The pork chop was crispy, but it was not otherwise memorable. The collard greens and the beans were nice, but nothing special. The corn bread tasted damp. I love soul food, but I was hoping for more. There were only three small tables inside, and the dining area seemed to be stuck in the pandemic era. I wish the owners the best.

Tucked away in a quiet little plaza in Lakewood (which probably has a few more hidden gems waiting to be discovered), my kids and I stumbled across this amazing soul food spot--and omg, we're so glad we did! We've been on the hunt for some really good soul food for a while now, and this place did not disappoint at all. I think it's more of a takeout kind of spot, but there are tables inside if you want to eat there like we did. We didn't want to wait to get home, and honestly, the smell coming from the kitchen made that decision easy! From the moment we walked in, the customer service was warm and friendly--it honestly felt like we were being welcomed into someone's kitchen. And then the food... chef's kiss. It was so deliciously incredible. We ordered the fried chicken dinner with mac and cheese, collard greens, and red beans and rice. My daughter and I shared the fried chicken--it was crispy, juicy, and seasoned just right. The collard greens were delicious and the Mac and cheese was good - a little on the salty side for me, but my kids loved it. My son ordered the pork chops and said it was one of the best soul food meals he's ever had. And he's serious about his food! He literally cleaned his plate and saved the red beans and rice to enjoy later (which he did- excitedly). We're already talking about what we want to try next time. Because yes, there will definitely be a next time. This place is the real deal. The ox tail and liver and onions is next for me!

Deeeeee-licious!! Came here Saturday had the fried chicken dinner with mac n cheese, collard greens, and mash potato's. Chicken was seasoned and cooked to a crispy perfection! Mash potatoes were yummy, greens were delicious, mac and cheese were good but not great. it came with corn bread, and it was tasty!!! The chicken was the star and I am so happy i love me some well fried chicken and this was just perfection, i wanted to go back yesterday but we cooked and today they're closed so I guess Ill have to run back this wekend. just delicious I appreciate it so much when my food is exaclty perfect!!!! If you're expecting soul food the way you would get it from a black families kitchen in the south this is your place!!! Perfectly seasoned and fried Chicken, Porkchops the way my momma would make them, side dishes made fresh daily even hourly. I wanted yams badly and they were out. Guy said it'll be 30 mins and I said I'll wait. Well I waited and it was well worth the wait. They were amazingly tender but had the right amount of texture to them. Keeping them from being mashed yams. Uniquely candied but still so familiar. Mac n Cheese was very good. Could tell they're prepared with feel instead of exact proportions. The kind of feel that might leave them a bit inconsistent from batch to batch but certainly mostly make you want to smack yo Nana cause they're so good. Greens were on point as well as the red beans and rice. The black eyed peas were a little under seasoned maybe could've used some broth with them. The Potatoe salad was creamy and had great body. Beware they don't use raisins! Hahaha. Finally the staff was friendly and happy to help. Not in a single hurry ever, like your moms kitchen. So you might wait for service, just suck it up. Call 20 mins ahead you'll get there and the food still will be getting it's final touches. Great place! Check out the Impala out front and the Tea shop across the parking lot. Got a peach and strawberry lemonade to go with my dinner. Perfect pairing. read more

Two stars strictly for the service the food is a solid negative 5 it is extremely salty I regret not taking heed to the reviews the food has absolutely no flavor just salt my food wasn't hot it was lukewarm the cornbread was dry and didn't taste fresh nothing I had was even slightly enjoyable definitely will not be going back it was a waste of money read more

I was in Long Beach when I googled best soul food near me and this restaurant showed up. I originally was planning on getting it to go but the place was inviting, and service was good so I decided to eat there. I had the smothered pork chops, dressing, collard greens, macaroni and cheese and the red kool-aid. Everything was seasoned to perfection. I met the owner and the staff. Service was 10 stars. Now I have to drive from Gardena to Lakewood to try other things on their menu. There was a steady flow of customers, letting me know that this is the place. I'll be coming back soon! read more

Food was ok service was less than adequate. I try to support my own but can't accept a drop off in service. First time and last time going . Ask them for there recommendations they said turkey chop I went with it and I got a plate of fried chicken . Had to wait a while when I got there . As I'm standing in front the cashier . He also screaming out order number, then I get my order . Go home and there no entree in my box. I call them up. To tell them to process my refund . They said I have to come back to the restaurant to get refund . I Uber there . So I wasn't about to Uber back. All and all there nothing special about the food . Really good. Fall off the bone beef ribs (sweet bbq sauce) and the turkey meatloaf is one of the best I ever had because of a combo of spices & gravy; has a garlic flavor. Cornbread is ok to me due to being so dry. Yams will be sweet bc they are candied and yams in general are sweet. Good for 1-2 piece just to have diff flavor. Would not make candied myself but people like it for holidays. I made collard greens b4 and this one is less salty. Some places put bacon. They got the bitter taste away so that's what I like. Mac is salty but not where I could not eat it. Cheese in general can be salty. I would come back. It took 27 mins to pick up and I ordered at 11:50pm on a Thursday. read more

The cabbage horrible it was no green color leafs it was the white core of the cabbage and it had no seasoning dressing had to much sugar to sweet made it nasty fried chicken was good when I called to inquiry about food items guy was rude and did not understand the question I had to literally state it to him while he was giving answers that had nothing to do with my questio dont recommend ibpaid to much money to get sweet dressing and white core of caggabe unseasoned ho at yoir own discretion I threw everything in the trash except the chicken they got free money could not eat the dressing it qould run my sugar up trash Ok read more

Finger licking good!! This place is seriously a hidden gem. I'd been meaning to try this place for a while but hadn't had a chance. This will be my go to spot for good soul food from now on. I had their fried chicken it was juicy, crispy and flavorful. Mac and cheese- beyond amazing. If it was any more comforting a food, I would have melted. (I will be having dreams about that mac and cheese.) Greens were good but the black eyed peas were deeeeelicious! I just ate here & their food was BOMB !!!! I wish I would've taken pictures but it looked so good I didn't even bother taking any photos lol. I got two dinner plates both fried wings. Each plate comes with 3 sides and corn beard. Since it was my 1st time I ordered 5 different sides: Potato salad Red beans & rice Mac and cheese (2 orders) Yams Mashed potatoes and gravy. The Mac and cheese was my absolute favorite ! My boyfriend loved the yams and Mac and cheese. It only took 20-25 mins for my food to come out, but at least it was hot and fresh. My boyfriend and I were looking for a new place to try fried chicken. Ordered the fried chicken & bbq pork ribs with Mac n cheese, yams, and steamed rice. They were out of mashed potatoes & potato salad. The wings on the chicken barely had any meat. Didn't feel like they were cooked with love. Amazing food and even more amazing service!! The owner took my order and hooked it up with an extra side and a couple drinks! The food never disappoints me. This place is one of the last good soul food places around. I stay all the way in watts and I am willing to travel to get some soul food from here. I just came for the 2nd time, this time with my family and the disappointment first started when 3 of the items we wanted weren't available,( I'm a 34 yr old black man born and raised in Compton) and it was disappointing that as a Black Establishment, daily items are not available to people who drove miles to eat. Then more frustration came when after waiting 20 minutes inside, 3 people who Ordered After me received their plate(s) first. I watched the cashier give a guy free kool aid but never thought to offer me anything to accommodate the wait. I love to support black businesses but we have to do better with how we conduct our business and treat the ones who keep the lights on. Today was my 2nd and last time at this establishment because it was clear to me that our contribution as a customer wasn't appreciated. All I got from this place was a small mac and cheese beside how rude the cashier was to my husband ordering just a side of mac was already a disappointment . I was craving mac but i didn't want a whole meal because my kids wanted something else so of course i am going to get what they want . I decided just to try it so next time i can order more from them . Well looks like i would never order from them again . I don't know who the cook is but i do know someone has a heavy hand because as simple as mac and it tasting like it has a bucket of salt & cajun seasoning then the food must be disgusting as well read more

R Kitchen is so good -- their food and their service! The gentlemen were very friendly and attentive which made our experience great. We found this gem on Yelp today and glad we did! Seems like it's mostly take out orders but there was one table to dine-in and luckily our family got to sit and enjoy our food hot and fresh! We ordered the fried chicken, bbq chicken/ribs, and smothered pork chops dinner with sides of greens, mac n cheese, yams and cornbread! Everything was so tasteful and we all loved our plates. We were also able to try their delicious lemon cake. I recommend everything we had here at R Kitchen because they will take care of you! We will be back again. As many times as I'd passed this spot, I never realized they were there. The 5 stars from other Yelpers drew me. I ordered from an older gent, apparently the owner, who later waited on me. I got a dinner for my Mom, and one for myself. Catfish with yams and mac. Ribs with fries and mac. Side of peach cobbler. First, EVERYTHING WAS GOOD! The fish was soft enough for her octogenarian teeth. She loves yams, period. The mac was good enough to go back for a pint! The ribs were tender. The fries were good. Unfortunately, I can't remember the peach cobbler. Did Ma eat it beforre I got some? I dunno. But this place will definitely be on repeat.

Unfortunately, the short ribs were disappointing. They were way fattier than I remember them being back in the day, to the point where I spent more time trimming meat than actually eating it. The quality just doesn't seem to be what it used to be. The greens were... okay. If it wasn't for the garlic Crystal hot sauce doing some heavy lifting, they would've been pretty hard to get through. They lacked the flavor and soul I've come to expect from a place with such a long-standing reputation. Now for the good news: the mac and cheese is still that girl. No matter what's changed, their mac and cheese remains firmly planted in my top 5 comfort food dishes. Creamy, cheesy, and exactly what I remember. Maybe this was an off day, maybe my expectations were too tied to memories, but this visit left me wishing for the R&R I grew up loving.

The cabbage/greens combo was delicious but the Mac and cheese was lacking a little flavor. The muffin was soft, sweet and flavorful. The meal was reasonably priced. The restaurant ambiance is customer friendly and the meat is made to order. The menu has some great items on the menu. This is a great place to go for a delicious and filling meal.

Though National Pulled Pork Day isn't until October 12, Stonefire Grill is celebrating it a little…read moreearly by offering their pulled pork sandwiches for half off. Or better yet, they brought back July's 25th anniversary special, though the price for this year is a little higher than last year, but still not a bad deal. And just like last year, rewards members could get the pulled pork sandwich for half off once per day from Friday to Sunday of that weekend. I went on Saturday at about 11:30 AM, and there wasn't a long line to order, but Juan was the only employee ringing up customers at the register. It took several minutes since the customers in front needed plenty of time to place their orders. During my wait, I saw the menu had a section for Wood Fired Grill, where Pulled Pork was an option for a personal meal. Actually, they had two options for the pulled pork: a 6 oz serving for $15 and a 10 oz serving for $20. However, neither option would qualify for the half off as there is already an option for pulled pork sandwich under the Burgers, Sandwiches & Tenders section of the menu. Based on the price tag, I'm guessing that sandwich is equivalent to the 6 oz serving, but the personal meal would also include two breadsticks on top of a side. The sandwich that is half off would only come with one side. With the exception of Stonefire's Beans, all of their sides are vegetarian. Wait, beans aren't vegetarian? Not here! When I asked Juan to remind me what Stonefire's Beans were, he mentioned there was tri-tip inside, and I was immediately sold! It's also their most expensive side, at least for personal size, so unless you're vegetarian, I would highly recommend selecting Stonefire's Beans as your side. I also did ask Juan about the Cornbread Casserole since I didn't recall seeing that on a prior visit. He said that they honestly should have removed the word "casserole" as it's pretty much just cornbread, but with serrano and some other ingredient that I can't quite remember what it was. Could be worth trying in the near future, but I really wanted the Stonefire's Beans now that I know it contains tri-tip! I also asked for a water cup to finish off my meal. I sat at the table closest to the rear for easy access to the BBQ sauce dispenser as well as the water. Well, almost. When I tried to get water, the beverage dispenser starting rumbling as if to make me think it was going to explode any second! I ended up getting Vitaminwater in my cup instead. And I also made sure to get not one, but two cups of BBQ sauce for my sandwich and beans. There was an employee who was on break sitting directly across from me, but he should have been in the break area instead, which is just a little further to the back. On top of that, I had to hear him watch a soccer game on his phone during the 7-minute wait for my order. After dropping my order off in front of me, the employee asked if he could get anything else. I didn't see any utensils on the tray, so I asked if there were utensils. He spoke so fast, but was looking in the direction of the counter I was just at minutes ago getting BBQ sauce. Turns out the utensils were on the other side of that counter, and I should have gotten them first, though without a plate at the time, they really expected me to set the utensils directly on the table? Anyways, I did like the presentation of the Pulled Pork Sandwich as it seemed like a mountain of slow-cooked goodness waiting to be devoured! The Stonefire's Beans were a pretty good portion size too, like a $10 serving of soup at any other eatery. Knowing that the Pulled Pork Sandwich could use some BBQ sauce from the getgo, I poured the sauce in the sandwich, which immediately boosted the flavor profile by quite a wide margin! The cole slaw, unfortunately, was not an asset to the sandwich as it fell flat in taste and didn't supplement the pulled pork or the BBQ sauce very well. But the Stonefire's Beans? Oh yes, remember when I said I'd recommend choosing that as your side, assuming you are not vegetarian? Knowing that there was tri-tip in the beans really made the beans that much better than those from, say, a Tex-Mex spot. They could have used more flavor, so I added some more BBQ sauce to the beans. Mmmmmmm...BBQ Baked Beans with some tri-tip! Oh yes, I'm sure Homer Simpson's mouth would be salivating if he were reading this review lol. Unfortunately, the pickle slices were placed directly on the tray as opposed to the paper that was supposed to cover the tray. Why don't they just use a small cup for the pickle slices instead? Juan seemed like a pretty cool employee, even making sure that the half off reward was on my account and that it applied to my order before requesting payment. Overall, I'm still giving 3 stars for this experience, but there's some improvement I can see from my last visit; there's just not enough for me to give 4 as there were several shortcomings that I really needed to put out there in this review.
