We had been long time customers that moved away. We were in the area so we stopped in for dinner. OMG. The food was more tasty than I had remembered it. The menu was basically the same which is great as I love consistency. I had chicken piccata. My husband had tuna. He liked the tuna better than when he had it last and like the new wasabi sauce instead of the old green wasabi. All I can say is the food's delicious and priced at a good price point. I'd only ask for the pretzel rolls to return and the 1/2 portion salmon would be great too. Stop in and try a dinner or a sandwich. I think you'll love the place. read more

I hate to make this comment for such a nice restaurant but last time I was there I had a filet mignon that was less than a half inch thick. Usually 2 to 3 inches thick. I bet it didn't weigh 2 ounces. I had to ask the waitress if it was a fillet She confirmed it was. It was a real rip off. read more

An old school cozy vibe! I must say the ambiance is pretty awesome inside! The food and service is very good and they have a nice variety on their menu! Full-bar and they have some great drinks! Bad hamburger. Expecting a nice pub/bistro big burger but was a small smashed down below average. Weirdest thing was it was "upside down". The lettuce tomatoe onion on bottom bun under the burger that was dripping in top making it all soggy. Had to flip over right side up like a normal burger then put condiments on. Should have sent back then but ate. I think the lazy cook or lazy prep person needs to go to a proper burger pub and see how its supposed to be done. Or go to a Chef Ramsey or Bobby Flay chef burger restaurant ir watch a show or something. American burgers aren't upside down. Has the owner seen this prep? Or was sold a bad decision. In all my years of living in this city, I have sadly never tried RP McMurphys. I looked online to see the menu before I came and it appeared to be a place I would like. So I gave it a try. I started with the Cajun shrimp. Pretty good and decent size. I then had The Black Russian burger. This was excellent. I also had a side of linguini noodles in garlic butter. This also was very good. As for the service, Bailey was top-notch. Friendly and efficient. The atmosphere here is comfortable and has an old town feel to it. Seeing how much I love history I was excited to come into this historic building. About the only thing keeping this from 5 stars was the price. It wasn't outrageous or anything, just a tad on the pricier side. I highly recommend this place. It's really not like anything out there. It's unique for sure and a great experience. This is the kind of place I think of when I think 'Old World Bar'. It's light enough inside but this is an all dark tones, mahogany style type bar, call it traditional. And it is a bar, one long bar, set of tables on one wall. There is a dining area and patio outside but what a great bar. They don't have a ton of beers on tap, but they had a good selection, I got to enjoy a jai alai from Cigar City. Our server/bartender also made up one of the better Kentucky Mules I've had, and I appreciated the fact that the mule cup I had was one of the largest I've gotten from any place. My girlfriend and I shared a sandwich and fries, it was called a Cheif's Elusion - corned beef and coleslaw with Russian dressing on rye. It was good - I've had a lot of these that are pretty good so maybe it doesn't stand out but it was good and so were the fries served hot and crispy. Helps that the kitchen is right there next to the bar! I also liked that I didn't have to ask twice for mayonnaise for the fries. I'd be more than willing to return for another oversize mule and a different dish. read more

I spent a few year's in Germany eating n drinking in hundred year old places just like this. Old World Cool nothing else like this in Michigan think Bavarian Inn only better. Set in a turn of the 20th century era German pub with walls adorned with period murals and rich mahogany. Known for the atmosphere it is a great place to bring a date or just have a casual lunch or dinner. Yeah we started with the Famous Soup always get a bowl to share. She had a Double Meat Delightful Patty Melt on a bed of Grilled Onions n Swiss Cheese spot on. Me a new exciting sandwich on the lunch menu , Blackened Chicken Greek Sandwich OMG fantastic ordered a Double so Wonderful a mouthful of Love each Bite. Dusted in Cajun seasoning then Blackened on Rye Toast Delicious WOW , Green n Red Peppers, Onions, Olive's, Feta n Provolone Cheese. Highly recommend this Unique Sandwich. From 6 year's ago the lower half. OMG this French dip sandwich is the best ever, I'm calling it a prime rib sandwich with a supper hot dip. The crock of French onion soup so damn good and loaded with melted cheese on top and pumpernickel bread cubes inside. I read many reviews talking about how great these two items are and you must give them a try as I'll now be in at least once per month. Super great service not found in many pubs. We ate here yesterday for the first time in a while, had a very good overall experience. The service and food were very good. Wife had French onion soup and Steak Debra, I had escargot and tuna "two way". Creative dishes made well. The only thing that kept this from being 5 stars was the timing of the kitchen. I was nearly done with my appetizer before my wife got hers, then she got her entree at least 10 minutes before I got mine. Maybe the kitchen was just having a tough night, it happens. After driving by here at least a million times, we finally went for dinner. Cool place with an old school feel. Clean and welcoming. Our sever was friendly but seemed to help tables a bit out of order of arrival. The table that came in behind us had drinks on the table before we placed a drink order. My daughter ordered a plain burger that she enjoyed and after stealing several of her fries, I can say they were good. Nice and crispy. My wife ordered the mussels, which were good and a side of linguini which said was just OK and lacked flavor. We both started with a Caesar salad. The salad was a bit disappointing and had a strong onion flavor. I ordered the Crawfish Diablo which was very good. I would definitely order it again. read more

I've never had a bad experience here. Whether the place is packed, or nearly empty, the quality and service are always top-notch. The bartenders are fantastic. The food is always good, I've had probably half of the standard menu and several of the seasonal specials. While not all have been to my personal liking, they were all decent meals. The food I have here that I like is exceptional. Prices are very fair. read more

Well after a recent visit to RP's not much has changed. The waitress we had was attentive and friendly. Of the four dinning three dishes (specials) were good, not spectacular. I order off menu, The Black Russian, this was bland and overcooked. Not worth eating. The beer selections are VERY limited. I could expect that in 2020 we have a lineup of bottles/cans to offer with a decent rotating tap of domestic with some craft. read more

Jacob and I decided to try this old-school bar after a friend told us we'd like the French onion soup. (Side note: is it weird that most of my reviews talk about French onion soup?!) We went on Friday, 3-26 around 5:30 pm. There were plenty of open booths, so we picked one and were handed menus by a friendly waitress. She also brought us some rolls to munch on while we decided what to order. I decided on a screwdriver and Jake got a rum and Coke. Our drinks were good, so that was a good first sign. Jacob ordered the chicken diablo, which was a spicy chicken dish. I ordered the fettuccine chicken. We both ordered the French onion soup, of course. The soup was awesome. The cheese on top was flavorful and the broth itself was bold and delicious. I wish they'd use better bread in the soup because the soft pumpernickel bread didn't do it for me. I prefer croutons or day-old bread pieces with more flavor. Minor issue, though. Our waitress brought our entrees soon after. The first thing both Jacob and I noticed was the chicken. It was flavorless. It seemed as though they use the same chicken across the board, so it's not seasoned for individual dishes. It was just sauteed in butter, which didn't taste like anything at all. It wasn't grilled or fried either, so its consistency was pretty boring for me. Jacob thought the same thing. The cream sauce in my dish was heavy and didn't pack much taste. I was hoping for some hints of garlic or cheese or Italian... but no. It just tasted like boring chicken in boring heavy cream sauce with boring fettuccine pasta. The cheese melted on top was really good, but it wasn't enough to save the dish. Jacob's chicken diablo wasn't much better. He complained it didn't have any taste or flavor besides "spicy." He said the pasta was well-cooked and it looked nice, but it didn't taste as good as it looked. The tomatoes and green onions didn't add much to the dish, so he was disappointed. Our waitress was super-friendly and eager to serve us but she couldn't make up for the lackluster dishes we were served. Normally love this place, but the menu on St. Patrick's day was so disappointing. Only thing they offered was anything with corned beef or fish and chips. Don't like either of those items. I did give the Wyandotte Griller a try, but ended up taking off the meat and onions. I ate a very expensive grilled cheese. They need to offer at least one or two things as an alternative to these two choices. It was a bummer. Love the bag pipers, though! read more

We went in for dinner on a Saturday night and it was understandably busy, but they were super gracious and got us in after a very reasonable wait and everything was completely wonderful! Our server Ariana was phenomenal and on the ball even though it was pretty busy when we sat down, our food was DELICIOUS and everything was reasonably priced for a night out. Went here for lunch on St. Patrick's Day. Asked if they have a special they said they had "Irish Stew" with beef and lamb. Okay I figured I'd try it out. This was basically a smallish bowl of what tasted like Dinty Moore beef stew but worse because the potatoes were raw. Oh it did come with 2 biscuits so those were okay I guess. Got my bill. $22 dollars for just this! $22! 7 or 8 dollars would have been pushing it, but 22 is freaking outrageous. Not only was it expensive but my stomach hurts like there was something off about the food. I understand you are going to pay a premium at a restaurant. That's how it works, but this was a complete rip off. Maybe they figured the drunk people wouldn't notice that they are being scammed. read more

As a native of Wyandotte I should know this place but in all the years I lived in the city, I've never been here until this past weekend. As another reviewer stated, I too was a bit surprised by the hostess greeting us with "do you have a reservation?" Looking around at all the empty tables and booths, it really seemed like a stupid thing to ask. A little sticker shock from the wine menu. I've been to some very upscale places that weren't as pricey. Service was prompt and courteous. The food was good but not what I would consider top notch especially for the price. Overall it was just not a memorable dining experience. Not bad, just not so great. I don't think we will be returning anytime soon read more

Many patrons did not wear a mask entering the restaurant, the cooks did not wear mask, the bar owner/manager did not have a mask on as well. The servers did wear mask. This was our favorite fancy restaurant Downriver. The back snug is cozy and painted with a Breugel-like mural on the walls and there are dark panelled Tudor-style booths to sink into. The food is good and imaginative and the owner always makes the rounds to see how everyone is doing. The dinner starts with good bread with flavored oils for dipping. The mussels and the Caesar salad and the soups are excellent. And though this restaurant isn't on the island, this is where we would go to celebrate major events. read more

It doesn't get much better than this in lovely Wyandotte (rather than "Downriver", this gem of an area needs to rebrand itself "Top of the Lake"... But that's a different blog). This place has been here in its current form since 1979 (the owners named it after Jack Nicholson's character in One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest), but has actually been a tavern since the 1800s-- with the same authentic decor. It is so cool and really a great atmosphere. You feel as though you're tucked away in some New England tavern here. Onto the food-- it is simple fare but fresh and delicious. Prepared with care, the dishes are always amazing. I've been staying in the area for the last 2 weeks and have dined here quite a bit so I know the menu pretty well. Try the Steak Diane-- their "zip" sauce with it is tangy and savory. With house made mashed potatoes, you can't go wrong. Tonight, though, I'm having their fresh lake perch, lightly sautéed. I started with a glass of Malbec (Argentina and Sonoma would be happy to see their wines represented here). Holly, my server tonight, is lovely and completely on point. Every server I've encountered has been awesome. If you're in the Detroit area, this place (and the little hamlet of Wyandotte) is a do not miss! read more

I left this review on Facebook: We are regulars here and generally find everything to be excellent. I don't know what the problem was yesterday, but I ordered a steak medium rare, and it was way over cooked, almost well. I sent it back and the replacement was so rare it was blue. They took the meal off the bill, but in the end, I left hungry. We'll return, I'm sure, but I sure hope they fix whatever was wrong yesterday or we'll be looking for a new go-to place. And received the following rude response: This just isn't right...the first steak was pretty close to perfect but since you are a regular we gave you the benefit of the doubt and cooked you another steak a little more rare than the first (yes it was rare). For someone who frequents us regularly we would hope you would recognize that we do care about what we do and that you might reserve judgement until we deserved a review like this. In this case you were in the wrong and we had to discard a lot of expensive meat because of it (dont worry my dog ate well). If you need to find a new "go-to" place, by all means, please do. After ten years of mostly enjoyable experiences, it's sad that we have to say goodbye to the wonderful waitstaff. You've been great and we will miss you, but we can no longer patronize a business whose management doesn't have a clue about customer service. If two steaks are going to make or break you, you should probably learn to do it right the first time. read more

If I could give this place zero stars i would...my wife and I had one of the worst restaurant experiences that we can remember from the service to the extremely sad, depressing food that was served. First it took about 10 minutes to be acknowledged at our table and to even get a glass of water literally the most basic stuff. Didn't even bring us any bread or offered bread, something that is a given at any dining establishment that advertises itself as they do. But I guess when you're cheap and don't respect your customers getting no bread is the result...anyway I ordered the salmon fillet and my wife ordered the grilled cheese with a side of fries. After a long time the food arrives and the salmon "fillet" is a complete embarrassment thank God I took a picture of it so you can see how depressing this dish looks its literally laughable. My wife's sandwich was ok but its a grilled cheese that's hard to screw up they managed to melt cheese on some grilled bread way to guys lol but they did forget her fries. When I received my dish I didnt even want to eat it, I proceeded to take it over to the owner who's just sitting at the bar staring into space doing absolutely nothing..I ask him if this is acceptable for his restaurant and he actually defends the dish asking me if I ordered the half or full order of salmon, well sir there is no half or full on your menu it just says "fresh salmon fillet" the guy doesn't even know his own menu, ridiculous...he argues with me that its a salmon fillet and I tell him he's wrong at that point he just says bye loudly in my face. Then as I'm walking out I hear him say "get the eff out of here" wow what a nice owner, selling a laughable amount of salmon and a few green beans for $23 is ridiculous, respect your customer and quit being cheap. My wife and I went to another local downriver restaurant 2 days later and I ordered the exact same thing for the same price and I took a picture of that too. The service was fantastic, we actually got bread (what a concept) and the salmon fillet was awesome you can see for yourself below. I am disappointed in the "basil" fettuccine. From the menu description I was under the impression it was a creamy pesto type sauce. It came out as a very bland Alfredo sprinkled with dry basil. My boyfriend ordered the mushroom Swiss burger and fries which was fantastic. Our waitress was wonderful and helpful. read more
