Whenever we feel lazy driving to Little Tokyo for some authentic tasting ramen, R101 in Glendale has been our go to. We first discovered this restaurant through online ordering during the start of the Covid pandemic. Every time we ordered here since then, the food and service have always been consistent. I highly recommend this place to get your ramen fix. No other ramen place in Glendale can taste as good as this!

R101 is a cozy ramen spot, conveniently within walking distance from Glendale Galleria. It's a sleeper location because even on a weekday 2-3pm, the place was full! But service is quick and friendly, so thankfully not too much of a walk. I got the truffle shoyu ramen (with an addition of an egg, which is unfortunately extra), and the truffle aroma is delightfully strong. Good if you're a fan of truffle! If not, opt for the regular shoyu. The broth is flavorful and the noodles are cooked well -- but, I did get quite thirsty after finishing my bowl. Perhaps sodium in the broth? Other than the egg not included, the other toppings in the bowl are delightful. Overall worth a visit if you're in the Glendale area and looking for food to eat!

On a Friday, made the drive in LA traffic out to Burbank. Not far, distance-wise but when it comes to LA traffic, IYKYK. I know the area as I know people who live nearby so I also took a chance with parking. It's a tiny lot for this plaza and I've never been able to find a spot. Until my most recent visit. Pulled into the lot and all three spots in front were open. I should have went and bought a lottery ticket after dinner. Service has always been great. Attentive and friendly. Even when busy. I think it's because of the layout. Inside, it's outward facing counters with one big communal like table in the middle. Staff just have to come out from behind the cooking area/cash register and can easily make rounds. As the self-proclaimed Ramen Junkie - If I don't like a Ramen spot, I don't go back. I've been here a few times. See pics. Love the rich broth and al dente noodles. It's the thinner noodles btw. I like how the appetizers are prepared fresh and served hot. And I like to get there in time for Happy Hour. Discounted apps, beer and sake. There are closer Ramen spots to both work an home but I don't mind making the trek out, even in traffic. I guess you can say I like R101 that much. There are people I won't do this for.

SERVICE - 5 STARS Staff was friendly. Good customer service. Waiters were quick to get us water and take our order. The food came out in less than 15 mins. LOCATION - 4 STARS Knocking one star down because parking was terrible. Spent a good 10-15 mins looking for street parking. The place itself is nice and has good amount of seating FOOD - 4.5 STARS Veggie Egg Rolls - 3 STARS The outside of the egg rolls were so crisp yet light however the inside felt soggy. The veggies felt like a thick puree. Didn't really like them. The sweet & sour sauce it came with was too thick too. Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen - 4 STARS The broth was really great. Lots of flavor in the broth. I had the pork belly in it. It was really tender super easy to chew and eat. My preference is a little more crisp but I still liked it. I asked for medium spicy and it was perfect it wasn't too spicy but still had a nice kick. L.A Tin Tin Ramen - 5 STARS My husband had this one and I definitely liked his better. The broth had more flavor and was a bit spicier. AMBIANCE - 4 STARS It was casual nothing fancy but the place felt comfy and warm.

5 stars for the takoyaki. Very crispy and flavorful. Serious standout. Never had anything like it! We also had the truffle shoyu ramen and the yuzu clam ramen. Quick service and cute interior. Park in mini lot or street!

It's almost the time time again! That soup weather.. Actualyl we're already here! I frequent this spot a lot with friends! It's a staple in the community. I love their ramen. The owner and staff are very friendly. It's a vibe when you walk in. Their pickled veggies are amazing, I always get extra But the star of the show is the spicy tonkotsu ramen, u won't be disappointed I guarantee it. The noodles are consistent, so is the broth and chashu pork.

Amazing ramen soup. Crispy calamari tasted great. Soup broth was the best. I had the mild and was perfect heat and taste. Friendly service. A must try spot.

We had friends come in from out of town and the party kept getting larger and larger. We ended up needing to find a spot to eat for about 11 people and luckily we were able to get accommodated by this small ramen shop! They have a long table in the middle that's kinda like picnic bench style and it was perfect for our large party. Took us about 2 hrs stuck in traffic and they seated us immediately when we got there, thankfully!! Parking is small so we all parked at the galleria mall parking structure and just walked over. We were planning to hang out at the mall afterwards anyway! Super nice staff and they were able to get our food and drinks out really quick, along with helping us with a group photo. I'm not hugely into ramen so I went for their gyoza which I somehow managed to order double of even though I wasn't very hungry but it was super tasty and cooked perfectly! They also had melon creamy soda on the menu which is one of my favorites. My bf enjoyed his ramen and I tried a little bit of it and it was pretty good. Overall we had a great experience and would definitely come back and try their other menu items. IG: @ammysalamii

This ramen spot is very small, but so cozy. If it's a rainy day, you might have a bit of a wait, but most days it's easy to get a table. The tonkotsu ramen is really good. It's not my favorite ramen in town, but it's still great and well priced. Their happy hour makes the Sapporo such a great deal! The service is always great, we've had nothing but great experiences with the folks who work here.

Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen

Service is terrible- kicked us out 10 minutes after giving us out food so we had to ask for to go containers. Food is still good.

We were staying in the area and were craving ramen. R101 was a short walk away so we decided to give it a try. From the outside it didn't look like anything special, but from the moment we walked in, the staff was attentive and friendly and the food was delicious and comforting. We ordered the Yuzu Clam ramen, Tonkotsu ramen, Tan Tan Ramen, Garlic Edamame & Ika Geso...everything was yum! If you're in the area, give it a try!

Came in for HH today! The food is always so good and the service is super friendly too. One thing I forgot to mention in my previous review was the music. This place consistently has great music.

Ask the Community - R101 Ramen

Is this Japanese owned ramen shop?

I believe it is Korean owned.

Are there any non pork broth options?

Vegetable Ramen, Seafood, Truffles?

Any baby high chairs?

Yes

What is the cabbage stuff that they give you on the side called?

Pickled cabbage used as a palate cleanser so you get the flavors of all the meals you order. :)

Any vegetarian options?

No, the shoyu ramen is NOT vegetarian. I just came from there and the chef apparently will not make anything vegetarian and the waiter informed me they have no vegetarian options. I would have left but I was with my family and didn't want to make…

Susuru Ramen Bar is a real neighborhood spot for ramen, and worth the walk and the drive! The Chicken Karaage is the perfect blend of moist and crispiness, and didn't feel heavy or oily. Some places serve chicken karaage over-breaded or drenched in oil, but not Susuru! The Mayu Ramen is really where it's at though. This pork-broth base ramen with black garlic oil surprisingly uses egg noodles, so it's a richer, different taste that certainly stands out. At the same time, no singular taste overwhelms the rest of the dish, and everything from the seasoned soft boiled egg to the perfectly charred chiashu work together in one harmonious feast. This is one ramen bowl that is literally good to the last drop!

Saw the high reviews so had to check it out. Susuru Ramen Bar is located on the corner of Hollywood Blvd and N Kingsley Dr. The lot is small sharing spaces with other restaurants so your best bet is street parking, which can also be tricky especially later in the day. The restaurant is small, with the register counter as the first thing you see walking through the door. There's bar seating against the wall, and 2-3 tables for groups of maybe 4-6 people. The lady manning the front counter as well as taking orders and serving was fantastic. Very friendly and checked up on all tables through out the night. For ramen, my bf got the Tonkotsu ($1 extra for spicy), and I got the Mayu. I see why it has such high reviews, both were delicious. The roasted garlic oil was amazing and complimented the pork broth. The seasoned soft-boiled egg was our favorite part, not just lightly seasons either. It was sweet and savory with each bite, and the creaminess from the jammy yolk was fantastic. The charred cha siu slices had a slight sweetness too, and the fat through the slices gave it this wonderful melt in your mouth, mouth feel. The tonkostu spicy used the same broth just added the chili oil to it and gave it a good bite. The noodles had a nice chew to it. It was just the perfect bowl on a chilly May evening. Definitely worth checking out for a great bowl of ramen.

Staff here is great. They're professional, friendly, and quick. Interior is also very spacious and there's plenty of tables for a ramen restaurant standard. Love the darker vibes as well. We ordered the Yuzu Shio Ramen($15.99) and Tonkotsu Ramen($16.99) for our own bowls and the snowy karaage fried chicken ($7.99) to share. The two ramen bowls were extremely delicious. Portions are very much standard which is great. Presentation is always a high standard when it comes to ramen and this restaurant upholds that standard. The flavoring were just perfect, nothing too overwhelming and not too salty as well which is always great to see. Love each and every bite. The karaage are absolutely delicious. One of the best I've ever eaten. Deep fried served with mayonnaise which adds tons of flavoring. Even without the mayo, it's very flavorful regardless, the snowy flakes adds a bit of texture to each bite as well which makes this a top tier dish. Highly recommend. Overall, a great ramen restaurant. We left the restaurant very fulfilled and excited to add this to the list of top restaurants in California. Loved each and every bite on top of the fast service, high quality ramen is not easy to replicate but Sato does a great job at it. The restaurant is bright, spacious, and welcoming, and the aroma of the simmering broth filled the air the moment we walked in. I ordered the Yuzu Shio Ramen with charred tonkatsu, which was fantastic. The char on the pork added a wonderful smoky flavor that complemented the light, citrusy broth and noodles beautifully. My coworker ordered the Beef Curry and Rice with a Vegetable Korokke and thoroughly enjoyed her meal as well. One of the highlights of our visit was the Black Truffle Chawanmushi. It was absolutely divine! The silky steamed egg combined with shrimp, scallops, and the rich truffle sauce created layers of incredible umami flavor. Every bite was comforting, flavorful, and beautifully balanced. To share, we ordered the tofu and seaweed salad along with the garlic edamame. The garlic edamame is a must-order. The sauce was so flavorful that I honestly wouldn't mind eating a bowl of rice topped with just that garlic sauce. It was that good! Overall, the food was delicious, the service was friendly and efficient, and everything came out quickly. I also don't like their chicken or chashu any longer and I always go with the tofu. Typical order for me is a Bold Ramen, Non-Gluten free, Go Green, Garlic's Best Friend, Give it a kick, with a flavored egg. If I'm extra hungry I will add extra noodles but their other appetizers such as their fried rice have never really wowed me, but hey, not for me. One thing that I do not get even though I am rating five stars is why they serve extra noodles immediately with your bowl of ramen. By the time you're done with your first portion of noodles, the second portion is a noodle brick that you have to pry apart in your bowl with your chopsticks. Ramen Tatsunoya handles "kaedama" wayyyyy better in the respect that it's to order and they bring it out almost instantly after you order it with extra green onions, wood ear mushrooms, etc. Tatsu definitely has the ability to pump out a bowl of ramen fast - so I know they could do this too with just a little extra care between front of house and back of house staff. Please consider it. Your customers ordering extra noodles will immediately notice a quality difference getting to eat fresh noodles!
