Last night I made spaghetti, and meatballs. The meatballs were handmade, and not to big up myself (#prayerhandemoji), they were on point. The sauce, and pasta were store bought though. I'm not going to shit on Paul Newman (RIP), so his sauce gets a pass. However, the pasta is always the weakest link. There's such a wide gap between dried store bought pasta, and fresh. Its almost like eating two different things, or equivalent to listening to mumble rap, and Gang Starr (RIP Guru). There's really no comparison! I've been to Raccolto half a dozen times over the years, and its always been superb. From the appetizers, pasta, and proteins, its all done extremely well. The restaurant is also fairly beautiful. Clean, modern, and cozy. Also, the service is top notch, and thoughtful. The staff knows the food well, they give great recommendations, and are overall fantastic. Tip: They recommend a starter, pasta, and protein. Every time before the last time i went last week I've only gotten a starter, and pasta. The server, who was great, recommended the aforementioned, and also a protein. Like a sucker, I got upsold. It was a lot of food, and after the starter, and pasta I was full, and didn't really have any room for the tasty protein. Go light people. You can always order more if needed. You're welcome. My favorite two dishes are the Foie Gras Mousse, and Bucatini. I'm a foie gras junky, and order it at any restaurant that has it, or a variant. Raccolta's version is a creamy, rich mousse on bread with a jam of sorts. I'm not smart, but I'd call it honey. Three pieces come with an order, but I can usually only eat one cause its almost too much good. Its a must have if its your initial visit. Although all their pasta's are excellent, I'm partial to the bucatini w/mussels. The pasta is chewy, and cooked perfectly. I've had all their pasta dishes, and haven't been disappointed once, so order with impunity. Tip 2: Make reservations or you won't get in unless you go in early enough. First time I went it was like 5pm (hey, I'm old, and although I'm not quite a grey hair yet, I like to practice their ways) and I got in. Subsequent times I've made reservations per their request. I gotta get out to this joint more often cause there's no substitute for fresh pasta. From the food to the service, everything is top notch at Raccolto. This was my favorite pasta spot until tonight. The food is seriously delicious but I won't be returning since the general manager wanted to accuse me of stealing a reservation. I had told them I need a table for 4, and gave my name. He said okay, and sat us. Never once was I asked if I had a reservation until right before my food came out. I came here after it first opened and finally had a chance to return years later. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to my memory. I was disappointed by the fusilli pasta that was featured on the menu to have "chanterelles, cipollinis, and tomato". If you're a fan of wild mushrooms, you know that there's a notable difference between shitakes and chanterelles. And, all of the mushrooms were shitakes, with just 3 (I counted) nubby stems of chanterelles. Also, cipollinis as a key ingredient suggests that you will get whole small onions as a featured component of the dish. But, uh, if there were onions in this pasta they must've have been cooked down for hours in the meager coating of tomato sauce. [ I know that fresh ingredients aren't always available, including wild mushrooms! But usually the kitchen will inform servers about the menu switch-up so that guests can make another selection if the subbed ingredients are not to their taste, like I wish happened here. ] My dining companion's entrée, ling cod, didn't taste bad--it was tender and served hot--but very bland. Being a fan of Vendemmia, I thought I would try Raccolto. I had heard the style was similar and Vendemmia is a nice, affordable place when you want to eat out and but not hurt your wallet. It is laid out a bit differently and I felt cramped in Raccolto. Early on, there were only a few people in the bar, but later, it felt like we were all too close together. It is a small space, and they had to optimize. The food was similar, but I think I liked Vendemmia a bit better. It might be because we ordered off the Dine Around menu. To those who say "this is the best Italian restaurant they've ever been to", I say you must be a Seattle native. Salt is the prominent taste in every dish. The steak was fatty, the Halibut was bland. Having to pay for bread and olive oil? How déclassé. Service was good, wine selection mediocre. We brought our own bottle of Napa Howell Mountain Cab. The waitress gave us white wine glasses (right) and never poured one glass for us, even though we paid the corkage fee. Sad this place is closed due to you know, coronavirus. But they still do take out and I know it isn't the same but it is still damn good. You really can't go wrong with any of their dishes. If you like the ragu get the ragu. If you're vegetarian then get the vegetarian items. I personally haven't come across anything I didn't like. Realllllly good handmade pasta - we had the strozzapreti Bolognese and the spaghetti with anchovy sauce. Both pastas were perfectly cooked, with a terrific, slightly springy texture. Do not miss the pasta course because it truly is the star of the menu. The appetizers are almost equally good - highlights for us this evening were the Swinomish oysters with fresh horseradish, the crab salad and the smoked fish. Entrees were just okay - portions were small (albeit well prepared). They just didn't light us on fire. We skipped dessert because we were stuffed. Sad to say that the quality of the food here has really gone downhill. We have been coming since they first opened and it had been one of our favorites. But the past 2-3 times we've dined there, the food has been so greasy it was practically inedible and left us feeling sick. Their crostini are SOAKED in oil, like if you squeeze it the oil drips out. And they then pair this with rich toppings like burrata and tartare. The pasta sits in a pool of oil. And to be clear, I'm not coming here expecting light food, I come for rich and delicious dishes. They made sure we were taken care of without being overbearing. We were greeted as soon as we entered by the chef and the host/manager wasn't far behind (he was washing his hands). i went into my dining experience knowing what friends had said about the pasta made in-house. i expected to rave about that, and it's true it was amazing. the texture and simplicity of the cavatelli was worth every bite. but the thing i keep thinking about is the small plate of castelvetrano olives that arrived to the table a delightfully warm temperature, with fried bits of parsley and other herbs as well as amazingly flavorful citrus rind populating the same small ramekin. those olives practically melted in my mouth and stole the show. we followed up the pasta and olives with the seared sea scallops which were also lovely in their own right. just enough of a crisp on the outside to contrast the perfect soft texture on the inside. as a matter of fact, i'd say that raccolto is just that: perfect on the inside. it is a place i'm happy to be able to return to, since it's in my neighborhood. the service was spot-on, the menu offerings were plentiful, especially for different dietary restrictions, and the overall quality was great. it was a near perfect dining experience. we didn't opt for dessert so i have that to look forward to on my next visit. in the meantime, i'm going to join the club of people singing this restaurant's praises. if you appreciate homemade pasta, you need to come see what they're doing in west seattle. i realize a lot of people who don't Iive on this peninsula often wonder what would make them cross a bridge to this corner of the city. you'd be met on the other side by those olives and that pasta. if i were you, i'd be turning the key in the ignition and putting the car in drive right now. from what i could tell, reservations are a must if you want instant gratification! read more

It was a small menu and I'm not sure how often it changes. Cameron was our server and I appreciated that he went through and described some of the dishes/answered questions before giving us time to order. Summers Over $12: What a sad name for a drink..if you like the summer. It was refreshing though and came with a little umbrella so I could feel tropical despite the gloominess outside. Roasted Cauliflower Soup $7: We ordered this to share, and it was nice of them to split it into 2 separate bowls without us asking. We would've been fine passing one bowl back and forth but I think this place is a little too classy for that. Cavatelli $13, added poached egg and parmigiano reggiano for $2: I've had cacio e pepe gnocchi at another restaurant and it was so good! Who knew the simple combo of pepper and cheese could be so delightful. I ordered this as it sounded similar, and while it was good, it didn't wow me the same way. Tagliatelle $15: I thought this was ok, it wasn't particularly memorable for me. I did enjoy the cavatelli more out of these two. Buttermilk Semifreddo $8: It's kind of like ice cream. We went there last night. I found the staff to be very nice and super efficient. At least the ones I met. We each ordered pasta dishes, as well as coffee, wine, bread and a nice corn dish. The problem was the pasta- their specialty. My husband ordered tagliatelle with crab meat. The pasta was cool to the touch; not even lukewarm. The crab meat in it was cold. Not cool- cold. The server couldn't have been nicer. She took the tagliatelle off the bill and comped our Americanos, which I appreciate. Mine was barely warm enough so I went ahead and had it. Flavors were excellent, good sized portion. However, it sat uneasily in my stomach for a very long time afterward. This is a gorgeous charming expensive place. They need to get their kitchen in order. Don't worry about seeing us again, because you won't. read more

Finally made it here to celebrate my husband's birthday tonight and left feeling unsatisfied + I couldn't drink enough water to offset the amount of salt in our food. We started off with bread and Brussel sprouts - the first bite was good but after that all we could taste was salt. After waiting for awhile (and watching a larger group that came in well after us get their food before us) our two pasta dishes finally arrived with apologies for taking so long. The rigatoni was topped with pork and kale - I guess I didn't expect to see salty pork carnitas on top of a bed of over oiled/buttered noodles. Pesto bucatini lacked flavor outside of the flick of the wrist of salt that was on every.single.thing. Spent $100 (only one beer in the mix). Would have been fine if it was worth it, but so frustrating when it's not. read more

We had a reservations for four of us on a Saturday night and called ahead to check whether they might have some rice or oat based pasta on the menu. Our five year old son is severely impacted by ulcerative colitis and eats out rarely since his diet his highly restricted. Once a month on the weekend before he heads into the hospital for a drug infusion, we let him have a cheat weekend and let him eat out but it still needs to be close to his diet. I make all his food including his almond milk. The person I spoke to on the phone mentioned that although dishes could be made gluten free none of the pasta is able to. With a five year old the only dishes he tends to like are pasta (he has a brown rice one) or pizza (rice flour based) and he wants to have something similar to us. Although three of us were going to order off the menu and order more than enough financially to make up for our child not they were firm that from a food safety standpoint they do not allow any outside food. Even after I explained it was a five year old and explained his medical condition she was firm that it wouldn't be allowed. I'm struggling a little bit to understand only because I've seen and remembering being a parent with a baby eating in restaurants bringing food from home (although perhaps this restaurant doesn't allow babies since you aren't allowed to bring their food from home). I can respect the food safety argument but the Americans with Disability Act is supposed to protect you from having such things from happening like this restaurant is imposing (Places of public accommodation like a restaurant needs to ensure individuals with a disability are not excluded from participation and access). There are other great West Seattle spots and Tom Douglas restaurants that are inclusive (and had no issues with our request, many have had waitstaff suffering with the same condition so can understand). We looking forward to continue give our business there. We ended up going to a spot in Kirkland who was shocked at our experience here when I was profusely thanking them for allowing us to bring his outside food due to his medical condition. read more

We've been twice now and absolutely love everything at Raccolto. Even with a reservation you may find yourself having to wait for a bit as it's a small space and they're always busy, but it's definitely worth the wait. Both times we've come we've ended up getting seats at the bar and having a cocktail while we wait for a table and the drink menu is always fresh, creative and delicious. We got the steak tartare both times because it's that good; don't skip it, just order it and be happy. This place does all fresh pastas and damn, they are delicious and noticeably better than anything you were planning on making at home instead. Could go on and on but just know this: everything we've had here is worth the cost, the wait, and more. Finally, excellent service both trips in seal the deal. Our server last time in was so knowledgeable, friendly, nice to chat with and even comped our drinks for no apparent reason other than maybe because we had to wait a bit for our table. We had been trying to get into this place for a few months; a combination of our plans changing and no availability left us without a visit. We recently had out of town company in and decided to give it a try (with a highly recommended reservation). We were seated at a lovely window seat. Unfortunately the acoustics made it very difficult for our party of four to even converse. I can see that they have put sound absorbing panels on the walls, but it is still very loud (and this was a weekday evening). Our server was amazing...until she was seated with a large party next to us, which quickly became her priority. We ordered cocktails and a few starters. Since it was considered a ""small plate" menu three of us decided to share a few different plates. One of our guests ordered an entree. Unfortunately they delivered all of the food, except the entree, at once. It was a very uncomfortable situation as we waited, and waited for the entree. Once it arrived, the rest of the food was cold. And the entree (pork tenderloin dish) was not appealing to look at or eat. The small plates and pasta plate were on the extremely small side. Our favorite part of the meal was the salmon bread (salmon on toasted baguette); other than that the food was unremarkable. Below average ambiance, below average service and average food make me believe this place is very overrated. A long wait to get into Raccolto and a long time before I will return. read more

Oh my gosh! West Seattle has gotten upscale! Raccolto's location is low key but way cool. It's unobtrusive and almost hidden. I've seen the sign in front of the building and just thought it was the name of the apartment building above it. It doesn't scream FINE FOOD here! It doesn't need to...it has a Capitol Hill look but doesn't come off pretentious. Came here for Seattle Restaurant Week and was pleasantly surprised! The food itself raises the bar for West Seattle. So glad to have someplace close to home like this with the caliber of food offered here! All appetizers were included in our meal -- Opah crudo, Gem salad (fabulous!!! egg, anchovy, chili and breadcrumbs), roasted new potatoes (purple potato!), wild mushrooms with very buttery crostini toast, and andouille sausage that was tartare-like, also with the toast. Our enteees were porkchop with faro -- the meat was cooked perfectly and the Cato had great texture -- and halibut with watercress coulis which was amazing! The fish was tender on the inside and nice and crispy but not overly so on the outside. Dessert was a rich brownie with a scoop of really amazing coffee ice cream and buttermilk panna cotta with pistachio topped with huckleberry. Soooooo good! Service was awesome as well. We were warmly treated, given much attention and then we chatted with our host in the way our. Definitely a dining jewel for the neighborhood and all of West Seattle! I'm a fan. The small shareable plates at Raccolto are excellent. I have literally enjoyed every single thing I have ever tried here. And that says a lot, because I don't like a lot. The cavatelli pasta ... yes, please. Always a must-have. The service is knowledgeable and warm without being intrusive. The location on California Ave in West Seattle has given our neighborhood it's first real contemporary Italian option. Helpful note before you go: The restaurant itself is small. There is a counter bar in the back I have sat at once, but otherwise always been seated in the main space and it's just not big and not cozy or warm. More like open and bright. Make a reservation on Open Table or call ahead. Most of the time you don't need to do that in WS, but here you should and you will get right in. Now the negative. Despite liking the food and all, I'm giving them 3 stars for two reasons: 1) a couple years ago I wanted to have my office holiday dinner here. Tried to set it up way in advance. They were SUPER rude and dismissive. That alone kept me away for almost a year. 2) Came by once with friends when there were tons of tables open and they were weird and wouldn't seat us, saying they were booked. That's fine, but major attitude. We went and ate down the street and walked by to the cars two hours later and the same tables were open ... they didn't turn over. After these two incidents I almost never wanted to come back. But after some time I did. And it's good. I still won't be a regular given the above, but at one point I would have written a one star review (after someone was a massive jerk when all I wanted to do was spend thousands of dollars for a dinner party and rent out the whole place) and swore I would NEVER go back ... so the theme of this review should be "forgiveness" and a hard-earned three stars that is a testament to the great food. read more

Very disappointed with the food and the service. I was so excited to have pasta at a restaurant that specializes in pasta. I ordered the simple pasta with butter, pepper, and parm. That way the quality of all the products could shine. The pasta came to the table and was dry on top because it must have been under the heat lamp. My friend ordered the lamb bolognese. There was not even a hint of lamb in the sauce. Lamb has a distinct taste, hard to miss, yet, nada. I ordered a meatball because apparently they are so great that they stand on their own. It arrived, very dark, blackish on one side:/ the flavor was so heavenly spiced it was almost inedible. The bread filler was the entire texture. There seemed to be very little meat and mostly bread in the meatball. The cocktails were great!! The service was very slow, the food, not good! The dinner was over $200 for 3 people!! Not 1 dish was great or even good. Even the focaccia was dense lacking the taste of olive oil. A simple bread to make. I wanted so badly to love it, but not worth a second chance. read more

Came here for a fun evening with friends. We were all first-timers to Raccolto, so we asked for recommendations from our (excellent) server. The menu is all small plates, and you order and share. What a great way to have a meal! Everything we had was good. I liked some things more than others ... but the roasted chicken and strozzapreti pasta were absolute stand-outs. Decided on this place for my birthday dinner, and fell in love! The service was amazing, and although we were seated upstairs our server was very attentive. We ordered a salad, the beets (so good!), three pastas, and drinks. The noodles were al dente (PERFECT!), and everything was so spot on. Towards the end of our dinner our server asked us if we were ordering desert, and we decided on not ordering because I had cake at home. She then surprised me with the panna cotta that I dream of. We live a few blocks away from here and decided to try this place out last night for date night! The interior of this place is absolutely beautiful, the host was so sweet, our waitress was really knowledgable and attentive, and now, the food. As an Italian American who has eaten in Italy, let me just say, the food was ITALIAN. Super fresh ingredients, simple combinations that allow you to savor each individual flavor, excellent wine pairings, and beautiful presentations. Every bite was as good as the last. We ordered some Rose and a Macrina baguette and the smoked fish to start out. For dinner, we shared the sardine pasta and the gnocchi with raspberry sorbet to top the night off. I've been eyeing this place for awhile and finally got the opportunity to go here this evening with family. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice, clean and simple. Here is the run down of the experience: Appetizers: Down right the best part of the meal. Loved the flavor profile of each of these dishes and I would have been content with just eating this alone. 1) Burrata with olive tapenade and crostini's. 2) Charcuterie - Salami, watercress and a sweet whole grain mustard with crostini's as well. Pasta: Unfortunately, the pasta had a lot left to be desired. 1) Rigatoni - Braised pork, kale and parmesan. Was really bland and watery. 2) Bucatini - Pesto, tomato and parmesan. Was really bland and watery as well. 3) Strozzapreti - Bolognese and parmesan. Was the best tasting pasta dish of the evening, but lacked a good punch in flavor. Drinks: We ordered a black manhattan and shared between us. Loved the flavor profile of this drink. Service: The gals working tonight were attentive and very nice. Unfortunately, our main sever for the evening needs to not assume things. He was really trying hard to make the sales pitch to my family elders and pretty much focused on them. Seriously, treat us all equally, instead of sucking up to the people you assumed were going to be paying the bill. The look on his face when he realized he screwed up when I gave him my credit card to pay the bill was picture worthy. Also, we indicated that this was our first time at this restaurant and I stated I'm a regular at GH Pasta Co, but he spoke to me in minimal words that this place is not the same and much more upscale. Ummm... ok. There was no need for that pretentious vibe. Overall, I say stick to eating the appetizers and having a drink here. If you want pasta, seriously go to GH Pasta Co. in downtown Seattle. Owned by the same chef and the pastas are fabulous! I'm hungry just thinking of the super flavorful pasta dishes one can get there. The seating arrangement is very poor in this restaurant. You feel like you are hovering over everyone's conversation if you are sitting in the middle of the restaurant. There were constant flies swarming above and around our heads. Keep in mind this is an Italian restaurant that focuses on pasta dishes. It took well over 25 minutes to receive our pasta. I enjoyed my meal but my wife's Fusilli was subpar. The burrata was fine but just not as good as others I've had that are far more simple with a pesto drizzle. Benvenuto Raccolto! A brand new West Seattle location of its older sister Vendemmia in Madrona has arrived. While serving a similar menu of pasta (the main hit), vegetables and seafood, the focus remains sharing. The chef, Brian Clevenger, has quite the briefcase of experience with Delfina (in San Fran), Tavolata and Staple & Fancy. Although he has perfected pasta, he keeps all his pastas reasonably priced at under $15. They serve 8 pastas made in house daily; All of which I would spin up in a fork and chow down on for days. The decor is very modern, minimalist and spacious with light wood and concrete. The upstairs appears that it's floating for a perfect small party or gathering. I'd love the space to be my house. For an excellent cocktail to start off the evening, order the Three Hour Tour, particularly if you're an old fashioned lover. We shared multiple plates--nothing had was not enjoyed. -Dungeness Crab: Perfectly balanced fresh crab meat with snap peas and apple. Could have used less salt and more pepper. -Delicata Squash: Autumn go-to with crunchy hazelnut and bitter greens. -Bucatini with lamb bolognese was perfectly seasoned and in no way gamey. A pleaser for sure! -Tagliatelle with chanterelle mushrooms and crème fraiche was the game stopper that was perfectly al dente with a hint of butteriness. -Chocolate mousse with strawberries was a nice ending to our meal and not overly rich. This place is a hit since opening its doors, so be sure to make a reservation on OpenTable. A few downfalls was that it is very open and can be noisy. In addition, with different types of pastas we would have preferred clean plates and the table wiped clean more frequently. Sharing can get messy! Otherwise, I will be back for sure--that says a lot given I often am not a regular anywhere. read more

Raccolto... I've finished the 3 (Vendemmia , Raccolto and Le Messe) before restaurant number 4 opens for this amazing family of restaurants. They are all absolutely fantastic and I plan on continuing to come back. Tonight my guy and I split 3 small plates, a pasta, and an entree. Everything was outstanding. There was a foie gras appetizer that may be one of the best foie gras dishes I've had. Delicious! Staff was personable and friendly as well. read more
