A really cool quirky bohemian tea bar in Rivera Village. If you like hot or cold tea - this is the place. They use quality products, brew each cup separately, and it's really tasty. Comfortable inside to sit and enjoy your tea. They pipe in music and usually there is something to watch on a large flat screen. Sometimes they have live music in the evening. They also offer a few munchies. The staff is really cool. A popular place with the Cafe Racer motorcycle riders (hence the name) My only recommendation is for sit down patrons they could offer real cups - I think a nice hot tea should be enjoyed in a ceramic or porcelain cup. This is by far my faaave local spot and I am here way too much, legit I should not be spending so much on tea but these teas are so creamy and high quality. And the lavender scones?! Omg. Im not even a huge sweets person but I come back weekly for those also. My favorites teas are the greaser, the beatnik, and the rocker and I always get the hippie toast to go with it. The açaí bowl was super yummy as well. I just came for the live music on Saturday and the band Foolish deep played. It was sooo nice. Super cool 80s vibe but acoustic chill vibes in one. Love all the locals who come and connect. Such a sense of community. I also came for the Tarot Tuesday night they have where Gabriel Gonzalez aka Gabriel the Gun does tarot readings. I asked a very specific question and the message was SPOT on. There was no denying what the cards and what he was telling me. Just discovered this unique gem at the North end of the Riviera Village in South Redondo Beach. Racer Tea is near the Northwest corner of Avenue I and Catalina, across the street from H.T. Grill. You can grab your tea and pastry and go for a one minute walk to the sand, or you can linger at the luminescent bar and chat it up with the patrons and staff. They also have a few tables. I wandered into Racer Tea several weeks ago and have become very grateful for its presence here in Redondo Beach and the owner's decision to drop anchor here and bless the Rivera Village with the tea bar we didn't know we needed. For over a year prior to the opening of Racer Tea, I saw the proprietor, Chad Webber, selling tea out of a now-famous van along the Esplanade fronting the Pacific Ocean. Chad was recently profiled in "South Bay Magazine" which profile tells the story of how he realized some years ago that there was an underserved market in America for would-be tea drinkers. Chad cultivated this interest in the other parts of the country first and people responded to his early efforts. His good instincts brought him to Redondo, where the people are health-conscious with a sweet tooth. The South Bay seems to reward businesses that reflect the personality of the owner and appreciate that authenticity can't be faked. You can order your high-quality tea "naked" (without milk) or "butt naked" (without milk or sweetener) and get a sense of the super high-quality loose leaf teas Racer is brewing. Or, you can order a drink off the menu and it will include milk, sweetener and some other expansive aspects to the underlying tea type. I enjoy my tea at the bar out of glass jars but they also make them to go. Racer probably has the best turmeric chai tea for miles around, making the turmeric more than palatable, which is nice for those of us who know what's good for us but don't like the taste of most of it. Same goes for the two green teas on the menu -- I prefer the one that has a note of rice flavoring in it. Food is medicine and we can enjoy the healing properties of tea on a regular basis at Racer while bellied-up to the bar, a welcome alternative to the world of ethyl alcohol and strong coffee. However, coffee drinkers like me will do just fine at Racer. My favorite drinks off the menu are the Greaser (a nutty black tea and cream) and the Coffee Puff, which has 4 or 5 shots of espresso and something sweet across the top. Racer serves several gourmet toast items and some good pastries as well. The aesthetic is an extension of Chad's interests: motorsports of all kinds (hence the name "Racer"), 90's grunge (the walls are painted black and adorned with edged-up album art and other memorabilia). While it's totally its own, Racer Tea is the kind of place you might expect to find in Hollywood, Silverlake or Mid Wilshire, bringing a refreshing breath of diesel to the laid-back beachy scene in South Redondo Beach. read more

Just discovered this neighborhood gem that has been here for two years. (Where the hell was I?) If you are caffeine free, this place has a good selection of tea drinks. The turmeric chai is the best I have ever had and I plan to return many times each week for that drink -- it is well worth the $6! The people are super friendly. There are about 6 bar stools at the counter and 3 very small two-person bistro tables inside the door. If you don't mind cozy, you can drink/eat your scones inside, but most people seem to take out. We're also at Redondo and Torrance Beaches throughout the week so the Racer Bar location is convenient for a beach visit. About a block up from Esplanade. The Cebadora can (in the refrigerator) is bright and fresh tasting, and really turns your mind on, without the negative side effects that caffeine can cause. Made my first trip to Racer Tea - it is a little tricky to find but located on Catalina - they have signs on sidewalk.
