Racer Tea Bar, what a hidden local gem right by Redondo Beach! My friends and I were in search of something refreshing to drink after a warm day by the beach and we're so happy to have come across Racer Tea Bar! If it's your first time, like ours, the baristas are super helpful in recommending a tea concoction based on what you like. They also offer samples of their popular teas. I told our barista I like "milky and sweet teas. But also love coffee." Our barista recommended "The Greaser" which was their closest to something like a cold brew, but with tea! It's an Argentinian tea sweetened with flavors of hazelnut and mocha, sweetened with caramel, and topped with cold foam. Absolute perfection! My partner was looking for something a little more fruity and refreshing and opted for their new drink The Peach Emoji, after trying a sample. He loved it! As a non-alcohol drinker, I loved being able to enjoy the cool bar vibe, without actually being in a "bar" bar, and still able to enjoy such unique drinks! A bit hard to find since I think the sign is essentially the van parked out front. The interior is kinda neat, clean interesting aesthetic. We ordered 4 drinks. 3 of them were iced and I'd say they tasted it a bit watered down unfortunately. The flavors were unique sounding but we mostly liked the Thai tea. Things came out quick but probably wouldn't come again. Service made me feel uncomfortable and i dont think they heard my extra sweet comment. Wandered by here after a run along Redondo Beach. It's conveniently located just a block up from the beach. There are coffee shops aplenty so it's nice to find a hip little tea bar in the neighborhood. The people here were very friendly and welcoming. Great service! I'm a huge tea drinker so I was thrilled by the interesting tea options on their menu. It's not an extensive menu but definitely some unique items and ingredients (ie. bourbon flavored black tea). Since it was my first time here, I tried their bestseller, the greaser. It was delicious!...tasted like a hybrid between an herbal tea and a smokey mocha, and the flavors blended well together. I also love avocado toast so I ordered the Hippie. There are so many different variations of avocado toast, but I like their spin on it with the pickled red onions and sun-dried tomatoes. HOLD THE PHONE, not just a tea shop! Mrs. Flask has been coming here for years and I've been standing outside like a chump while she orders her fantastic Chai specialty drinks. The other day I finally decided, hey why not try and iced coffee from Racer. IT WAS FANTASTIC. As per usual, it's all about the beans, and my guy found some magic ones. New café opened up in Redondo Beach: I'd heard about Racer starting out as a van café before getting a storefront just a few steps from the beach. I'd been curious to check it out, so the opportunity came just after New Year's to go. I ordered The Rocker, which is a fan favorite: it was very milky and creamy, with tons of lavender and sweetness to go around-- the Earl Grey was very subtle, to the point of being an afterthought, but honestly, I preferred it that way. I happened to stumble Into this place after getting a manicure pedicure and I was so happy that I stumbled in what a unique, fun, rock 'n' roll, kind of a vibe with cool and kind humans working behind the tea and coffee bar! Came back again, and again was very happy to have done so. I had a different iced tea blend and a toast this time. Both were great! The Rocker tea uses Earl Grey and a little lavender. Very good! I was in the area for Labor Day and - due to the extreme heat - wanted to cook off with a refreshing drink and snack. I'm so glad that I found this place and decided to check it out! The menu is pretty simple but it was so difficult deciding on what tea to get (so many of the options called to me) but the Thai tea I settled on (I forget the menu name of the drink) was exactly the right sweetness level and temperature level to truly cool me off. The açaí bowl was a great surprise as I didn't expect it to be as fresh as it was! The barista cut up all of these fruits fresh for us behind the bar when making the bowl. I can't wait to come back here again to try more teas and also probably get one of the acid wash "make tea not war" shirts - man was it HARD not buying one of those on the way out! read more

I really liked Racer Tea when it was mobile van parked on Esplanade. I'm so glad it has a brick and mortar location and regular hours now. It's a small bar with a lot of ambiance and at times has live music. Seriously, if you like actually tasting your tea (and not drinking overly sugared and creamed water like at some other coffee/tea shops) then this is the place for you. Each of the drinks are lightly sweetened and have distinctive flavor depending on what you order. They use oat milk, so its vegan. I've tried about half the drink menu and they are all so different. Not sure how this little spot flew under my radar but I'm so stoked to have discovered it today. I had a little bit of time to kill in the village this morning so looked on Yelp for new spots and Racer Tea Bar came up. I'm a pot-of-tea-a-day girl, so I was sold immediately. Located on Ave I just off the main strip of the riviera village, Racer Tea Bar is a breath of fresh air for the area in terms of ambiance and the products offered, overall a completely unique place. I ended up ordering The Rocker: an Earl Grey latte with lavender and honey and it tasted like self care in a cup. Lavender is a tricky flavor profile because overdoing it gives you that soapy taste pretty quickly but everything about this drink was balanced and perfectly sweet. It appeared that oat milk is the default milk option and potentially the only choice available, and I don't usually love alt milks but the oat milk didn't detract from my enjoyment of the drink at all and I understand why they would want to go the alt milk route. After reading some reviews it seems that this business started as a mobile tea stand ran out of a van and I'm thrilled to be able to support a grassroots business that made it into the realm of brick and mortar. read more
