Hands down one of the worst experiences at a business. John the owner actually came out to look at our rack/cover solution and was rude and dismissive. Even walked away while still discussing the rack system. He had a horrible attitude just because he didn't know how the system worked. Ended up calling Custom Truck Accessories and they were very professional and answered all my questions. Even knew what I was talking about. I would stay clear of this place. I have been a long time customer of Rack N Road, but after the last install job they did, I knew was going to be a life-customer. Well, There I was again last week asking for a custom job... My wife recently had to get a new car after her last car was totaled on the freeway (semi driver at fault :( ) On the last car she did not want roof racks because a sporty small sedan would look funny with the racks, so we had a trailer hitch installed to carry bikes. To make it look as nice as possible, the I got some spray paint color matched and mixed up across town and before the guys at Rack N Road installed the hitch they gave it an amazingly good paint with the color matching paint. It looked so good and we got comments and compliments on it all over the place. Fast forward a bit and she found a used car she loves, a big sporty sedan this time, a GS-350 F-Sport. She is in love with this car and only has one complaint, no way to transport our bikes for rides farther from home. Well, this new car is tricky, it has no rain gutters for roof mounted racks and a trailer hitch can not be mounted without cutting a hole in the fancy rear diffuser or bumper. Since the car is effectively a Toyota, and should be reliable for ages she was comfortable going all in on finding a solution for transporting the bikes. Enter Rack N Road, I went in a few weeks ago and checked out he selection and prices of rack options and after talking it over for a few weeks we had our minds made up. I called on a Monday and they had openings all week so we chose the most convenient for us. We decided on a Yakima Rail permanent install, I have had these rail mounting systems on other cars of mine and they are so easy and flawless to use. The rails were installed from almost the windshield way back to near the rear window. At my request they used every bolt hole on the tracks, making them practically part of the car body. For the cross bars we selected the Landing Pads and Jetstream bar system so we can easily remove the bars when not in use (or going through a car wash). In addition to that we had a Rhino Rack Cable Core Locking Cable base slipped into the each track near the rear Landing Pad to make it easy to lock the bikes (or whatever else we have) to the roof of the car with a decent 8mm cable. The complete install took a little over 2 hours. The bars were cut to exactly the length my wife wanted and after the installation was finished she was so happy with how they look on the roof of the car. I used a 4-pack Yakima lock core set to secure the Cross Bars to the Rails. The next day we went to Scrub Boys car wash quickly removed the Cross Bars for the wash. There were no leaks from the Rail bolt holes at all and it was easy to snap and lock the Cross Bars right back on after the wash and dry. She likes the look of the racks so much that despite the slight noise she doesn't want to take them off. Thank you Rack N road for another outstanding job and the great service as always. IDIOTS. They told me my car had no factory mounts so they drilled through the roof to secure my rack. I thought this was strange and sure enough my roof rack ripped through my roof and my kayak went onto the freeway almost causing a pile up. I called and their response was did you tie it down properly? DO NOT GO HERE. read more

Had a lot of questions about what my options were for my Jeep Wrangler as far as bike racks went. Hit a lot of barriers with the swing out tailgate and the backup camera on the spare. Chad went over many options and finally we ended up looking at a swing hitch accessory that would allow me to utilize the rack I already have and access the tailgate. The item unfortunately wasn't in store and had a four week lead time; after perusing the internet I found a retailer with the item in stock, free shipping, and a 10% discount. So, the only reason they didn't get my order is because the item just wasn't in store- which is sometimes the suppliers fault, I get it. I just needed it sooner than a month out and couldn't wait. I've had several roof racks and trailer hitches installed by Rack N Road on various cars over the years, and they've done a great job every time. Because of those good experiences I turned to them to install more complicated Rhino Rack system on my new Jeep Wrangler. The install involves drilling 8 holes into the roof of my brand new Jeep, which was scary. I'm happy to report John did an amazing job. And beyond the install, John spent time with me a month after the install to chase down some creaking noises that were caused by settling of the rack after a 3 week off-road trip. Very frustrating. I went in to buy a rack for my truck and was specific that I needed to carry 3-4 kayaks. The sales kid recommended the most expensive option and I had to ask for other options. He sold me a Tracrac and explained that I needed to go to hardware store to get the J cradle bolts longer to fit. I did this and went to install but J cradle still won't fit in crossbar. I called at 5:35 to tell them what happened and was coming in to get help with the Cradles. The employee asked me what kind of cradles they were and he would see me then. I arrived at 6:04 after they vlosed and lights were off and nobody answered the phone or the door. Would have been nice if somebody told me they would not be available after closing or at least say come tomorrow. After doing some research there are no J cradles for this rack that fit at all and the rack is already on my car. Employees aren't educated and I wasted my time driving 30 minutes for a locked door. I spent over 1,000 dollars and thought that was going to cover the kayaks for my family. Should have got the cheaper rack somewhere else. Will be returning tomorrow to get a refund. It's too bad, I like the rack but if it won't work for my needs I wish the employee would not have sold it to me. read more

These guys knew more about my car than the Mazda dealership in Elk Grove that I bought it at. I went in and to inquire about a new roof rack for my 2014 Mazda 6 and Anthony helped me right away asking what I was planning on using it for. He showed the display models to figure out what style I wanted and we settled on the Yakima low profile model and was able to hook me up with all the appropriate hardware that was needed. I'm an instant gratification day person so I didn't feel like waiting for the installation appointment so I went home and figured it out after readings the install guide. Pretty easy. I did notice that the screws they gave me were too short so I ran to Lowe's to buy some longer ones even though they told me they'd exchange them if I went back to the shop which I did at a later time because the screw heads were too bulky and rubbed on the covers. When I went back I ended up grabbing the wind visor and couldn't be happier. Anthony made some solid recommendations for a bike rack so I might be back later for that. I must be in a good mood, because I am giving out 5 stars left and right. First off, let me begin by saying how impressed I was with the staff of Rack N Road. I came into the store in search of an option for me to mount snowboards onto my toaster oven of a car (scion xb). Well as luck would have it, the knowledgeable sales staff gave me a run down of all my options and breakdown in cost. They told me about the pro and cons of all the rack systems and what I could use the system with. They told me about everything I should expect once I have a rack placed on my car. After much thought (an hour or so...) I called back to set up an appointment, Chris was able to squeeze in my install even when he had a few other cars to work on. Believe me at first I thought the quality of the install would suffer from him working on so many cars, but this guy must have clones. The install was done without any problems. The rack was secured, weatherproofed, and good to go in a couple of hours. Wow. It was done fast and with great care. After the install, he took the time to tell me about the system, instruct me on how to lock/unlock, load, and attach whatever I needed to the system. He also recommended a fairing which I thought I didn't need but came back the next day to get due to wind noise. So needless to say, these guys knew what they are talking about. I never felt like I was being "sold" something. They gauged my needs and recommended several option that fit my price range. I never was "upsold" or pushed to get one thing or another. This type of honesty is hard to find in today's economy of "sell the biggest things" mentality of big box stores. Much love and respect to these guys. Without a doubt, the best place to shop if your looking for a roof rack, tow hitch, or any type of accessories that you might need. EDIT #2: RNR has gone out of their way to remedy the situation, and I have been tracking a replacement shipment that is due for arrival in two days. I appreciate all of their efforts in turning a mess into a right. IF you're interested, read the review below for the whole story. These guys are not impressive. Sure, the prices are good, and they have most everything in stock, so if you're the type of person that wants to get your product and go, you'll be fine here. I however, am the type of person who expects a high level of customer service. I ordered here because of the price, lack of sales tax, and free shipping. If I had to do it again, I'd pay the extra $100 to not have to go through any aggravation. I ordered a product online and then immediately called to request a signature requirement to avoid UPS leaving a $400 roof rack on my front porch. Denied. I got an email from UPS basically indicating that the package couldn't be delivered because it was sent without a unit number. I'd cancelled my weekly nighttime mountain bike ride to install this thing that now isn't coming. Fuming. 15 minutes on the phone with these guys and they offer to have me drive to Maryvale (20 minutes away) to pick it up at a UPS distrobution center. No thanks, I don't want to drive to the ghetto in the dark to some warehouse. They say UPS will call me.... why? why are they calling me? This would be a one star review had John, who manages the store, not been completely cool and called UPS himself. I still don't know if I'll have product in hand this evening, but the one employee who was negligent enough to not include a full address, needs to be working in the stockroom for a few months. Seriously, you ship things for a living, shouldn't it be second nature to double check the address? EDIT: So I drive to Maryvale to get the packages (2) and get home in excitement that the night wasn't a total loss and I would still be able to accomplish something. Half my order isn't in the box. Blood pressure is getting too high, I can feel it in my face. Quick phone call to John at Rack N Road and he started blaming UPS. Look, as a customer I'm sure you can all agree, we don't care who's fault it is, we didn't get what we paid for. Make it right. No matter where the screw up was, I don't have, in my hands, what I paid my hard earned money for. Explaining to me that you've lost money on the deal and I can send it back and call it a lost cause is not exactly an answer a customer wants to hear. So as of now, I have a standing offer to "contact UPS and investigate then call back in a half hour and send free locks." It's funny, I have a good friend who only buys things online, and I have always disagreed with him but could never explain why. This is why. If I could go to a local store to get this, I would have. I'd have walked in, paid for my product, and left with it in hand. Done. Instead, I have to make a bunch of phone calls, listen to excuses, drive to Maryvale, and get my blood pressure up over something that should have been 100% painless.
