Had the crab cake special - basically was two ice cream scoops of some crab concoction which they charged me $26 for. Came with very salty green beans and yellow rice. Had the frozen mango dessert which all you could taste was the raspberry sauce that was on it - the dessert was pretty tasteless. Got out of there with low tip for $60 for the two of us. Basically gave two stars as the tea was good but everything else was very very very disappointing. Would I go again - probably not as there are some nice places in Augusta that you can dine for at $60 which are superb. read more

Whenever I visit a new city I try to find that local gem... Rae's Coastal Café definitely hit the nail on the head. Tucked away in a residential neighborhood, i definitely thought I was lost.. but once I arrived, had my seat at the bar and began to look at the menu I knew I was right at home. I ordered the shrimp paté as a starter and the seasoning of the paté along with the mango chutney that came with it was so amazing. For my entree I ordered the Jerk Chicken sandwich and it was love at first bite.. and for dessert was homemade key lime pie which probably taste better than the pie I had down in Key West which is saying a lot! If you're a martini drinker you can't go wrong with the Key Lime Martini. I definitely enjoyed this tucked away gem and will definitely be back when I'm back in town. read more

Wow! Rae's Coastal Cafe a delightful establishment... a diamond in the rough hidden in the middle of a residential area. This place is amazing. Sitting was open, my wife and I was greeted by our waitress who was very polite and friendly, she took our drink order and informed us of the special of the day also of the two (2) menus we may order from. I really liked the Caribbean island decor and the two fish tanks set it all off. Rae's Coastal Cafe also offer a full bar. We ordered the Jerk Chicken Wings for an appetizer and they were so delicious we also ordered off the dinner menu the Prime Rib meal, I must say it was out of sight. We really enjoyed this establishment and would recommend it to family and friends alike, finding it may be a challenge however worth the attempt, Rae's Costal Cafe is a true Augusta hidden gem! read more

Hard to find but worth the hunt. Their salad is the Green Jacket Salad. It's famous in Augusta. Top it with a filet of salmon and you have a full meal. There menu is varied and remind me os south Louisiana. The interior is quaint but relaxing. The staff is awesome. Nice view out the back window. Great for single, couples, or big groups. Never been disappointed. One of my truly best restaurants in the area. They serve lunch and dinner only. Enjoy. read more

Most disgusting food in the area. 1. Sat outside and discovered that less than 3 feet away there was a hanging "fly catcher bag" that was filled with hundreds of flies and smelled like death. Disgusting. We moved tables. 2. Wings Appetizer was burnt and dry (actual black burnt edges). Couldn't eat it. 3. Hamburger bun was so hard and the patty so dry that trying to chew the combination was almost impossible. Again didn't (should I say couldn't?) eat it. 4. "Crab meat sandwich" was very much a frozen patty and had a fishy flavor. Husband didn't eat it. We ended up leaving with only 1 bite from each of our "entrees" and so did the family beside us who thought the food was equally disgusting. My wife and I found this place on Yelp. It's not real easy to find, but I recommend you take the trouble. The outside isn't going to win any landscaping awards but walking in the door is like stepping into a new world. The decor is somewhat beachy, with a lot of wood. Very comforting. They don't have TVs on every wall playing sports. There is music but it isn't blaring. It's a nice comfortable place to go visit with friends and enjoy the food. Service was impeccable. Our server was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. She earned (and got) a nice tip. Our lunch was delicious. My wife had the pcrab cake lunch special and I had a crab cake sandwich. Both were excellent. You can't often compliment the bun of a sandwich, but in this case the bun shared center stage. The crab cake itself was just that. Crab meat without a bunch of fillers. The bun was soft but nicely toasted for just the right crunch. It isn't the cheapest place but for what you get, it's more than reasonable. I will definitely return. Had Rae's for the first and last time last night. Everything we had was really subpar at best. Jerk chicken app was the best thing we had. It was okay but bland. I would actually reccomend a jerk dipping sauce to up the flavor. Entree wise the ribs were pretty disgusting really. The sauce was heavily ketchup based but also chunky and just had a funky flavor. The (baked) potato salad just tasted like mashed potatoes and mayonnaise. Speaking of mayo, the remolaude sauce with the crab cakes was okay but definitely heavy on the mayo. There was no spice or flavor to anything, like nothing was actually seasoned. And the most agregious thing on our plates last night was that damn out of the box rice. I absolutely hate out of the box rice and could tell by looking that this looked funny, texture was not fluffy. Well I took one bite and realized instantly this was out of the box rice. And once again, they didn't even try to fix it up, season it, it was bland and hard and plastic like in texture absolutely terrible. You should really be ashamed of yourselves for that rice. Overall, the location was odd to me but the demographic they primarily serve seem to enjoy the food. But for me and my family we would never eat there again. How disappointing. read more

A SAD excuse for a "good" Caribbean restaurant. Our first experience here started off not so great. Called and set a reservation for a party of 7 at 7:00 and finally got seated at 7:40. Got told our table was "getting set up now" a good four times in-between then. Not much waiting room in the waiting area so be prepared to be in the way of everything; bathroom, front door and host stand. We were finally sat (at two separate tables) and had to push them together. The waiter accidentally spilled a cup of water on the table which then spilled onto me which is fine things happen and it wasn't too much on me anyways, but there was barley and apology from them which I thought was a little rude. The food was sub par. I got the grilled salmon and potatoes, the salmon was cooked well and the potatoes were great! But my boyfriend and parents food (jerk chicken and frog-more stew) were bland, menu said it to prepare for spicy and flavorful and it was nowhere near that. Presentation of food was meh. The service was okay nothing great, tossed silverware and plates down and didn't really explain anything. Since we were sat so late and we got our food and 8:25 ish we were feeling rushed since they closed at 9. Constantly asking if we were finished and rapidly collecting plates. All in all for a first experience, it wasn't so great and don't think we'll be going back. The sweet tea was great though! read more

My husband and I have been dining at Rae's for years. We love it. I always get the coconut shrimp and it never disappoints. Tonight's shrimp was delicious but I did not care for the honey mustard sauce it was served with. I used to get a sweet - I think mango- dipping sauce. Please bring it back. I would give it a 5 star. Save your money and your time . For a bit we thought we were on some sort of hidden camera show. We ordered the salmon ( flavorless ) and the jerk chicken which was tender and cooked well but such a sad presentation and not memorable at all for a Caribbean place -* rice was eh and the beans were boring . - could've used actual crema and tomatoes ( tiny amount was atop the beans but barely noticeable ) we also had very rude people next to us who commented on how they felt we were sitting on top of them - ha! The food was very good. We started the evening with the refried bean dip, very tasty but too many green onions were used for our taste, we ended up picking off most of them. I ordered the New Orleans fried shrimp. Very good overall. Came with saffron rice and black beans. He got the Jerk chicken. 3.5 stars. I can't remember what I ordered the first time I came here but it was nothing to write home about. Fast forward two years and I came here with my book club and ordered the jerk chicken dinner. It came with black beans and rice which was good and the chicken was delicious. The bread served before the meal was just fine if you ate it hot and rock hard if you let it sit for a few minutes. I also got the she crab soup and that was pretty good. Wouldn't order it again but would like to come back here and sit on the outside patio. This won't end up an Augusta favorite for me but I'm so glad I gave it a second try. read more

I was underwhelmed by this establishment. I had the sea scallops that came with beans and rice. There did not appear to be seasoning on the rice and beans and the scallops. Can we also address their women's bathroom?!? There are no doors on the stalls and no walls. Just shower curtains. Seriously this is just weird. A hidden gem in the most unpredictable corner of Augusta. When going for a meal here if you think your GPS is taking you to the wrong location just trust it. Rae's is nested in middle of houses in a development. There is even tennis courts behind the patio of the restaurant. On a beautiful day definitely opt to be seated outside. Yes, as other reviewers have noted, this place is in the middle of a residential development, but trust your GPS and you should find it. We came on a Thursday, wanted a reservation for 1800 but they had 1815 -- this gives an idea of how popular it is. Quite decent beer list, and also a good Bourbon selection at reasonable prices. We opted for the Trilogy, as there was no fish "catch of the day." This was a combo mahi-mahi (very good), coconut shrimp (good), and jerk pork (ok). Perhaps the latter had been under a warmer, as my first bite was very dry but the rest was fine; my son said that his was generally overcooked. Dessert looked worthwhile on the menu but disappointed; key lime pie was way too sweet and had a strangely gummy topping (not whipped cream). read more

I really enjoyed my dining experience at Rae's! Its a great find in the middle of Augusta. Rae's is named after Rae's creek, which runs directly next to the restaurant. The restaurant will remind of you places in the Florida Keys. The food has a strong Caribbean influence, hence many of the jerk offerings on the menu. Despite its unassuming location in the middle of a subdivision, Rae's was super busy on a very rainy Friday at 6 pm. We had to wait around 20 minutes to be seated. But it made for a good excuse to grab a drink at the bar. The bartenders were super friendly and nice! We had the jerk chicken wings and green jacket salad as our starters. The wings were very tasty...they were deep fried, which gave them a nice crispy finish with a taste complimented by subtle jerk flavor. I actually wish they were grilled (to enhance the jerk flavor) instead of fried but they were still pretty good. The green jacket salad albeit simple, was also pretty good. It was iceberg lettuce topped with Rae's secret vinegarette dressing, homemade pita croutons, red peppers, and tomatoes. There is lot of tradition behind the salad being made "as-is", but adding mixed greens would have been a home run. For our entrees, we tried the Cajun Mahi, Scallop special with coconut shrimp, and the Trio. The Mahi was good and had some kick to it. The scallops were very flavorful and served in a sweet sauce that nicely complimented the fresh taste of the scallops. The coconut shrimp were very tasty too. The trio was also very good and came with a nice sized piece of fish, steak, and chicken. The key lime pie was awesome and tasted better than any pie I had in the Florida Keys! It was made with fantastic crust and topped with homemade whipped cream. The flavor profile was definitely more sweet than tart. The service was great! The manager even came around to introduce himself, tell us the history of Rae's, and make sure everything was going ok! Overall, great people, great key lime pie, good food, and fun atmosphere! Traveling for work. I always depend on YELP to guide me to the hole wall locations that the locals support. This is one of those locations. Trust your GPS as it will have you going into an apartment complex. Service & Food was outstanding. I spotted the special board walking in and it was Scallops. Wow they were nicely prepared and serve with a salad,homemade dressing along with hard rolls and whipped butter. The side dish was rice with beans. I naturally walked in and sat myself at the bar as instructed by their sign. There were two servers one of which was eating and nether one greeted me. They carried on their conversation and the tended to the two other tables that were seated. Finally, after sitting there for a few minutes, I was offered water but no menu. I sat around for another five minutes and then the other server said... do you want a menu or something? After finally getting a menu it was another wait to get my order in.
