Trust your GPS as it will have you going into an apartment complex. Service & Food was outstanding. I spotted the special board walking in and it was Scallops. Wow they were nicely prepared and serve with a salad,homemade dressing along with hard rolls and whipped butter. The side dish was rice with beans. Yes, as other reviewers have noted, this place is in the middle of a residential development, but trust your GPS and you should find it. We came on a Thursday, wanted a reservation for 1800 but they had 1815 -- this gives an idea of how popular it is. Quite decent beer list, and also a good Bourbon selection at reasonable prices. We opted for the Trilogy, as there was no fish "catch of the day." This was a combo mahi-mahi (very good), coconut shrimp (good), and jerk pork (ok). Perhaps the latter had been under a warmer, as my first bite was very dry but the rest was fine; my son said that his was generally overcooked. Tough. I wish I could rate food separate from service, but the service was REALLY BAD. I read about this place online and was excited to try it based off the reviews. As an out of towner... I naturally walked in and sat myself at the bar as instructed by their sign. There were two servers one of which was eating and nether one greeted me. They carried on their conversation and the tended to the two other tables that were seated. Finally, after sitting there for a few minutes, I was offered water but no menu. I sat around for another five minutes and then the other server said... do you want a menu or something? After finally getting a menu it was another wait to get my order in. The other server said oh... the server was suppose to take your order. THEY ARE BOTH RIGHT THERE! There were two gentleman who I think were owners or managers that were standing behind me just watching the game and greeting Regulars. The food was good thank God. Go here for bold flavors. Stay away from everything else. The jerk pork and New Orleans shrimp were excellent. The flavors were bold and those items were well seasoned. My wife's shrimp and grits and my coconut shrimp and filet were under seasoned. It tasted very bland and there seemed to be a lack of salt. It was unfortunate as the filet itself was cooked very well and the texture was fantastic. It just needed more salt to bring out the flavor. I was a little disappointed when they brought out the check and there was an unexplained upcharge. Apparently when you get the trilogy you will be uncharged $6 if you choose the filet. This was not explained to me by the server. I wouldn't have minded the upcharge and would have still made the same choice but it is not fun to see a surprise on the bill. We've come to this restaurant several times. It is absolutely wonderful. The food is very good. The restaurant is kinda hard to find. The GPS always gets confused. Its tucked in next to an apartment complex..... near the tennis courts. The Shrimp pate for an appetizer is great. I think you should try it. I ordered the jerk chicken. It's a lot of chicken on the plate. It comes with rice and peas, salad, and rolls. We were greeted at the door upon arrival by a really nice and friendly guy. Also our server was super good. A SAD excuse for a "good" Caribbean restaurant. Our first experience here started off not so great. Called and set a reservation for a party of 7 at 7:00 and finally got seated at 7:40. Got told our table was "getting set up now" a good four times in-between then. Not much waiting room in the waiting area so be prepared to be in the way of everything; bathroom, front door and host stand. We were finally sat (at two separate tables) and had to push them together. The waiter accidentally spilled a cup of water on the table which then spilled onto me which is fine things happen and it wasn't too much on me anyways, but there was barley and apology from them which I thought was a little rude. The food was sub par. I got the grilled salmon and potatoes, the salmon was cooked well and the potatoes were great! But my boyfriend and parents food (jerk chicken and frog-more stew) were bland, menu said it to prepare for spicy and flavorful and it was nowhere near that. Presentation of food was meh. The service was okay nothing great, tossed silverware and plates down and didn't really explain anything. Since we were sat so late and we got our food and 8:25 ish we were feeling rushed since they closed at 9. Constantly asking if we were finished and rapidly collecting plates. Ate here for the first time with family in town and we loved it. Great pours at the bar, phenomenal service, great food and the prices are fair for the location and fresh seafood. The owners son was very nice and professional and made sure we were taken care of. Only negative thing about the place was how dang loud it was in there. We followed our GPS to a shack hidden in the backwoods of what felt like a trailer park but was actually a nicely hidden neighborhood. Our reward was a sea shanty/Caribbean-ish decorated dark hideaway. There was promise here...but unfortunately the promise was more than the reward. While "acceptable", there was nothing in our meals that stood out. I had the Frogmore Stew, more a collection of cooked items than a traditional stew. Do not be afraid when your GPS turns you into an apartment complex. This jewel is nestled deep within an apartment community. If you find Rae's Coastal Cafe you will not regret the trip! We stumbled across this and we're very pleasantly surprised. We started off with some complementary Jerk Chicken Wings courtesy of the best server in the building, Allison. Her southern hospitality landed our table with a sippy cup, a flashlight, plastic silverware, and a pitcher of Diet Coke with a straw for our thirsty table mate. The dry humor that didn't stop made the dining experience a laugh a minute. On to the food, the jerk pork was on point. The shrimp and grits were unique and delicious. And again, the Jerk chicken wings were some of the best wings I have had, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Off the beaten path, this is a hidden gem. Being that I have spent a lot of time in Jamaica, I could appreciate the flavors but I still longed for a bit more. The enthusiasm of the staff made the experience enjoyable. I had the salmon and my husband had the jerk chicken. I was wanting Shrimp and Grits badly for Mother's Day and so we decided to go to Rae's as I had some here a few years ago and remembered it to be good. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits and my husband ordered the Coconut Shrimp. My son ordered the Frogmore stew. We waited a good while for a waiter to finally come around and take our drink orders (water all around - not hard) and decided what everyone wanted. After another wait (I mean, water??? not too hard!) we finally got to put our orders in. While we waited, there was a family seated next to us at a long table with a couple of children who kept running around, shrieking, and pounding on the aquarium (hey - that hurts the fish's ears kids!). When we could finally wave down a serve, I quietly asked him to ask them to tell the children to please not pound on the aquarium. He said he would speak to the manager (never happened). While we waited, our water ran out and we had to wait, and wait, and wait - I mean - water!!! before we finally got refills. After what seamed like forever, our meals came out. I looked at the plate before me and thought "What the hell?" Now, any low-country cook knows what shrimp and grits are and what they are supposed to look like. Well, mine had grits and it had shrimp, and on top there was some cheese baked on it but it was in an au gratin dish. I had to dig into the grits just to find the shrimp. I thought "Ok, this is a different take" and took a bite of my grits. OH MY GOD. The grits were not cooked through, watery, and completely tasteless. That was all I needed. I sent the dish back and told them to take it off the tab. I have never, ever had anything like what they brought me in my life! My husband's coconut shrimp were even overcooked. The Frogmore Stew was just some sausage, a few shrimp, a potato and corn. Underwhelming to say the least. I have to say though that their She Crab Soup was absolutely delicious. That's what I give the 1 star for. I don't know the reason for the absolutely slow service but it was a Saturday night and they should surely expect to be able to cover the crowd. Overall this place was pretty "meh." My husband wanted to try a new (to us) place. By the end of the night neither one of us finished our food and neither one of us wanted to go boxes. The good: Let me start off by saying the service was great. We weren't greeted at the front (hostess was seating a party) but she was very friendly when she returned and when we were leaving. Our server, Stephanie (I believe), was also friendly and checked on us multiple times while dining. There was a manager that floated around and took care of an issue we had with one of our items (had to send back). The portion sizes for most of the food was on par for the pricing of the items. The jerk chicken wings, jerk pork, and coconut shrimp were delicious. The bad: I'll just go in order from the beginning to end of meal. First of all, this place is LOUD. There aren't any sound dampeners so EVERY conversation is heard. We literally had to yell our orders to the server. We remarked that this would be a horrible date spot, if you were trying to get to know someone. We ordered an appetizer of 10 jerk chicken wings. My husband bit into the first wing and it was undercooked. Not just a little pink, it was bleeding. The manager took care of this without any questions. The salads that came with our entrees were so sad looking and warm. My husband's didn't have any of the pita croutons and mine had an over abundance of scallions. The lettuce also looked like they had been out all day (yellowed and limp). My husband ordered the "Trilogy" and he was less than impressed with the whole dish. He didn't finish the mahi mahi because it was dry and just didn't taste that good. He remarked that the rice and black beans looked less than appetizing, and that if he just based it off of how it looked, he wouldn't be eating it. The taste was also underwhelming. I ordered the "Frogmore Stew". It's basically a low country boil. I had high hopes, but I guess The Juicy Crab has me spoiled. There was really only one note to this dish and it was the peppery seasoning. The corn wasvoid of flavor and dry, so I didn't bother with it after two bites. Seriously, all I could taste was the seasoning on everything. And they don't give wet wipes or anything extra, even though you have to peel shrimp with this dish. After the meal I ended up going to the bathroom to wash my hands. The single "stall" doesn't have a door, but a shower curtain. I decided washing my hands was all I'd do there. So overall not the best experience, but some of the best people in food service. read more

Since I no longer live in the home of the Masters, I feel safe sharing the secret that's Rae's. If the selfish locals don't tell you, and you don't live in the swanky Walton Way neighborhood, and you are not a member of the tennis club next door, or a resident of some condos and apartments tucked in the corner, then you'll never EVER find this gem. But thankfully, here I am to expose Augusta's precious secret. Rae's is an unpretentious restaurant with a Jimmy Buffetesque flavor, hence the name Coastal Cafe. There's nothing I won't recommend here. The house dressing is tangy Italian, the fresh catch in this landlocked region of Georgia is indeed fresh, and their steaks are well grilled. Those new potatoes are to melt-in-your-mouth buttery smoothness. The waitstaff is attentive and casual, and the entire restaurant just smacks of relaxation. On Friday and Saturday nights, it gets crazy packed as it's live music nights. Oh, and the bathroom. I can only speak for the ladies' powder room. The door is a simple fish-themed shower curtain. But no worries, nobody has ever yanked my privacy from me in all my visits. But I would be careful on live-music nights where the ratio of drunks skyrocket. read more

Absolutely the worst service I have ever had. The food had no flavor and even after sending it back twice still wasnt cooked right. The bread was hard and when asked for Togo boxes for the salads we didnt eat the waiter proceeded to put them in the box for us and touched the salad with his gloved hands; gloves that he had been touching everything else with. We brought my parents here about a year ago and everything was excellent so I dont know what happened from then to now but they need to change it back. read more

This place is a tricky little bugger to find, even with the help of GoogleMaps and GPS. Yes, it's in the back of a 70s subdivision, and you'll certainly be surprised when you finally find it. Most of the clientele appeared to be retired or almost-retired regulars who all knew each other. Lots of gold-shirts and hawaiian shirts to be found. Good old fashioned southern hospitality abounded. We stopped in for lunch on the way from Atlanta to Charleston and were glad we did. It's certainly coastal/nautical themed that you'll find all over Florida. You might even feel like you were actually IN florida except for some of the accents. The crabmeat salad sandwich ($13) was excellent. I could have eaten a few of those delicious sandwiches. The wings ($7) were super-crispy and not very flavorful. Saved by some of the random sauces on the table. For a casual lunch spot in Augusta, I would highly recommend coming here. My wife and I just moved back to the Augusta area after a 17 year hiatus. I had completely forgotten about Rae's! We had lunch here this week and it was great. I had the shrimp sandwich and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff was incredibly friendly, attentive, and helpful. The decor is a kind of Jimmy Buffet at the beach meets The Master's and Southern gentility. Very comfortable. Seems like a good place to hang out after work with some friends for libations and a possible meal. We will be back! read more

Came here for dinner on a Wednesday night. It is a difficult place to find, you will hit a parking lot that look like a residential area but keep going back and its tucked away in the back. As people said the jerk anything is good and the salad is delicious. Think of an Italian but slightly heavier, nothing amazing but solid (I ordered 2) Had the crab cake sandwich which was okay but nothing that blew me away. The shrimp and grits, jerk pork and the Trio is what I would get next time I come back. The service was great, I sat at the bar and had a nice conversation with people at the bar and the bar tender hooked me up! Had a chat with the owner and he made me feel welcome. I had a casual lunch there today and it was wonderful! Our waiter, Eric, was extremely personable and accommodating. During lunch we discussed how friendly the entire staff was and how we kind of felt like part of a "club" here. The customer-base seems to be a good mix of everyone--business people on lunch, women in casual day attire, a large group of older ladies. The fish are fun too and make for a cool conversation piece. I had the jerk pork lunch, which was good, but my favorite parts were the rice and black beans and the shrimp pate appetizer. The sweet tea was perfectly sweet too! The servings are large and they bring rolls as well. Eric convinced us to get dessert, too. They were out of Key Lime, which must be a favorite, so we got the chocolate cheesecake. I would rate the entree higher, but the cheesecake was a decent size serving and very good. Eric and Walter, the owner, were awesome and made us all feel right at home. Can't wait to go back! I would never have found this place on my own, but my sister-in-law found it online, so that our whole family could have dinner there after my Dad's funeral. The food, service and informal upbeat atmosphere were great! It was just what we all needed as a pick-me-up, after we had done our macabre duty for Pop. We went there in the late afternoon on a weekday, so it wasn't at all crowded. The price wasn't cheap, but for the wonderful dinner and positive vibe the place offered, it wasn't that bad either. Where do I even begin?! We had a reservation and upon ordering the waiter (who was so nice btw) was out of french fries, ranch, chicken, onions, shrimp, and grits. I ordered the New Orleans shrimp with rice and beans and it lacked so much flavor. It was clearly frozen shrimp, canned beans, and microwaved rice. There was a small portion of seasoned rice with black beans. The beans had good flavor. The prices are over the top for the quality and portion size. Also had the shrimp and grits. It had great seafood flavor bit kind of short on shrimp. At $20 I expect a shrimp and grits that will knock my socks off. Service was good.
