Although the experience we received from our visit (review date 5/10/11 ) was less than acceptable, I'm updating my review to reflect a 4 star rating. This alone is due to the effort and time Dr. Margossian put into sending me a hand written 5 page follow up letter in an effort to "apologize" for our experience based on my posted review. The letter was sent to me one month after the original posted review but unfortunately I was too upset at the time and unwilling to change my 1 star rating. My partner on the other hand felt that I should give him credit for reaching out to us and update the review to reflect this. In his letter it seemed he missed the whole point of the message I was trying to convey about working with scared children and improving the skills of him and his staff in this area. 1. He implied that I wanted to stay in the room during the procedure, which of course I did not as I know (as he mentioned) there is a liability concern of me fainting from watching what they are doing. In no way did I ever say that this was what I expected. 2. He also implied that I had an issue with making the necessary payment (which I didn't). I only expressed that the office staff should prepare a patient who will be required to pay a bill at the time of service (mainly when the bill is in the hundreds of dollars). I personally do not walk around with that much money nor do I always carry credit cards; therefore, it is a courtesy to prepare the patient for the fact that they will need to bring the funds since they do not send you a bill for what your insurance does not cover. Would I return to this office? Probably not, but it looks as if others have had a fair to fantastic experience with him. We've all had fantastic experiences with a person or a business while another person with different expectations (or just plain having a bad day) could walk in and be very disappointed with the service they received. One of my wisdom teeth was infected and in so much pain.. My dentist referred me to an oral surgeon that couldn't fit me in any time soon. So I went to the internet and found dr.margossian! They were able to get me in the next for a consultation. When I arrived, the wait was long.. But I was just so happy they were going to see me! A week later I came back and got all 4 of my wisdom teeth out. The surgery was quick! And both the doctor and nurse were so nice to me. I ended up getting dry sockets and was in SO much pain. Dr.margossian came into the office on a Saturday to take care of them so I wouldn't be in pain until Monday when the office opened.. Who does that!! AMAZING! I would recommend this place to everyone! Dr Margossian is an amazing surgeon!!! I had 2 teeth extracted and was trimbling with fear but Dr. Margossian and his nurse Pat put my mind at ease. The extraction went off without any pain and I was FINE the next day! His office is very clean, the staff is very understanding and professional and I highly recommend you call him whenever you need oral surgery!!! I was extremely disappointed with Dr. Margossian and his office staff. I went in for an implant and they never gave me any instructions on how to manage the pain at home, I later found out I was supposed to ice the area, but they never told me. On top of that they did the procedure with no numbing cream or numbing shot. After a few years the tooth broke (the one he supposedly fixed) and for the 4 minutes it took to fix the tooth he charged me over 400 dollars!!!! He glued my tooth in and didn't shave or clean the area. There were bums all around my tooth that agitated my gums and tongue. The office staff made me pay for the services before I even sat on the seat. They were rude and unprofessional. If you're looking for a professional kind dentist, he is not the one for you nor is his staff. read more

Dr. Margossian may be the best oral surgeon. He is one of the most knowledgeable and skilled surgeons out there. Furthermore, He and the entire staff are very friendly and approachable. His staff does a great job of resolving any problems and quickly getting patients for the doctor. My experience of pulling out my wisdom teeth could not have been any better. I went in to remove all four of my wisdom teeth. The x-ray images showed my bottom teeth growing into bone, with one of them growing completely sideways. The staff answered all my questions and resolved any issues I had. This worried me about the severity of the extractions and the recovery time it would require. However, Dr. Margossian described the whole procedure and we discussed best methods for recovery, and I knew he would perform the extractions excellently. Not only was the procedure conducted in under 20 min (generally expected to be an hour long procedure), but my recovery was relatively painless and short. In two days time (generally expected a week of recovery), I was able to go out and during these two days I experienced very little pain (did not even need painkillers). The way the doctor discussed the extractions led me to fully trust that it will go better than well. As a patient, there is nothing more I could not ask for. Thanks to his talent, the surgery and recovery went much better than I could have even hoped. I fully recommend Dr. Margossian to anybody seeking an oral surgeon, and I would not hesitate going back. read more

My son had oral surgery yesterday and was still bleeding profusely by the evening. I called Dr. Margossian and after answering a few questions he asked us to meet him at his office. By now it was 10 pm. He took the time to stem the bleeding and made sure my son was ok before we were finished. I feel he went above and beyond for us. The main receptionist is inadequate, and she blames the patients for her unprofessionalism. It's been almost two months I've had my appointment, and she still claims she's waiting to hear from my insurance company. I went online and checked that my insurance claim has gone through. I owe them a little less than what I paid for at my appointment. But really, keep the change. I don't want anything to do with you anymore. She keeps calling me, "Sweetheart", which is weird and gross as is, but especially so since she probably hates me for reminding her to simply do her friggin' job. They were wonderful! My husband had all 4 of his wisdom teeth removed (partially impacted) and I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly they processed him in. They took great care of him during the procedure and Marina even helped me walk him out to our car since he was still out of it from the sedation. They called back later to make sure he was okay, which was an extra nice step to see that they truly cared about how he was healing. Dr. Margossian is an excellent oral surgeon. He took the time to explain everything which was very comforting. He is very professional and my experience was very positive. I highly recommend Dr. Margossian. My follow-up visit was as expected. They were on-time and upon examination everything looked great. I healed exactly like Dr. Margossian told me I would. Overall if you have to have teeth extracted Dr. Margossian would be my choice. On my last visit, which was quick as they were on time and I was given the royal treatment, I asked about replacing an old crown and bridge with implants. Dr. Margossian sat down and explained the benefits and disadvantages of both a crown and bridge and of a dental implant. He then did the unexpected. He asked me which one I preferred. Implants are a little more expensive, but the advantages out way the additional cost. I shared the information I had learned from Dr. Margossian with my Aunt, who need some serious dental help and she was very interested to learn more about dental implants. I don't know what else to say about Raffi Margossian DDS M SD other than he's the best in Los Angeles County, the best in the U.S. - the best that ever lived. What I'm trying to say is that he's a pretty good oral surgeon and dentist. Eight stars but Yelp only let me give him 5. It's an unbelievably-popular office, very brisk, always a lot of patients, but well worth the wait. I went to Dr. Margossian for an implant consultation. He took his time and explained the entire procedure making sure I was on the same page. He extracted my tooth and did a bone graft, which hurt afterwards but he had already assured me that I could call him at any time. I called around 11pm and the call service connected me to the Dr who helped me out. It was great to know I could count on him at any time. He later put in the implant, he even called me afterwards to make sure I was doing okay. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who needs to get implants done! read more

I went to Dr. Margosian for double jaw surgery. My goodness was that the right decision. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. When I first met Dr. Margosian I was in my teen years and he was very comforting. The wait to see him was quite long but it was completely worth it. He walked me though the surgery process and after my surgery he and one of the ladies at reception gave my parents their personal cell phone numbers in case they had questions. I have read some of the reviews for Dr. Margossian and I agree a little bit with every one of them. I also was referred to Dr. Margossian without a choice. The first surgen that saw my daughter in the E.R for her broken jaw did not take my insurance so I had to go through the whole refferal process and as we know that can take some time. I have to say that Patty was wonderful pushing the refferal process and approvals for procedures as quickly as possible. She is amazing and I hope Dr. Margossian takes care of her because she is a gem well worth every penny. She made me & my daughter feel at ease when she saw that we were nervous about the procedure. In my opinion she is the heart of that office & Dr. Margossian is lucky to have her. As far as the front desk being on top of insurance procedures and payments it's not pleasant asking anyone for money especially when people are in pain but it's something that has to be done. Having worked in a medical office myself I understand this. It is not their fault, I would blame the insurance companies they have gotten so picky that if everything is not in order they will deny the claim and the doctor will be out the money. We have to remember all the overhead it cost to run that office. The medical insurance alone must kill him. As far as Dr. Margossian's bedside manner I think patients feel rushed because he is matter of fact. It seems like he has a lot of patients and doesn't want to fall to far behind. So if you have questions you better have them written down. To his defense if patients had to wait a long time to see him then they would complain about that. So you see the poor guy can't win. As far as Dr. Margossian's treatment of my daughter I was pleased when he decided against surgery for my daughter and opted to wire the mouth shut and see if the jaw would heal on it's own. The surgery would have left my daughter with a 2-3" scar on her face. He told me he had a teenage daughter and this is the procedure he would have choosen for her had she needed it. That made me feel good that he was thinking about the best way of treating my daughter as if it would have been his. read more

I can't speak highly enough of the wonderful (under the circumstances) an experience I had with Dr. Margossian! Let's start with the staff shall we.... My terror almost immediately subsided when I walked in the door. The staff was absolutely top shelf!!! Patty was speaking to me on a personal level.... Talking to a concerned and scared patient more like an old friend with the constant reassurance that everything was going to be alright and virtually painless. Once it was determined what needed to be done everyone sprung into action and before I knew it I was waking up and it was over. The best service ever. I was in terrible pain from a previously inserted implant. The office manager was very understanding and scheduled me for an appointment that day. Dr. Margossian and his staff are amazing! I came in there with a real problem with a wisdom tooth that another dentist tried to extract. By the time I got to Dr. Margossian's office I was in blinding pain. I was in tears and was shaking from the pain. They brought me right in, and Dr. Margossian numbed me up even before the xrays. His staff was super friendly and compassionate. I was in bad shape, and every member of the staff came in to check on me as the Novocaine took effect, all offering sympathy and encouragement. By the time Dr. Margossian expertly extracted the tooth, I was feeling no pain at all. These people are my heroes today. I don't know what I would have done without them. I was referred to Dr. Margossian by my ENT as my wisdom teeth were causing problems with my sinuses. I was very apprehensive, nervous, scared as you can imagine... but Dr. Margossian and his staff put me at ease immediately. Every single person who works there was so kind to me. Got all 4 wisdom tooth out yesterday, Dec. 30 - one of them was impacted. Although the procedure was yesterday, I feel like I'm healing quickly than expected. Cheeks are swollen but that's expected. What a great place. The doctor there could not have been any nicer or more thorough. My mom needed a biopsy for some lesions in her mouth. The doctor and his staff were kind, funny and attentive. My mom has a good sense of humor and tends to talk when she is nervous. They responded well to her nervousness. It was 100% a positive experience.
