Decent food in a beautiful setting. It was peaceful to eat outside with ocean views and the sound of the babbling koi pond adjacent to our table. I tried the roasted vegetable club. It wasn't the most exciting sandwich, but it felt healthy. The price was a bit steep for what it was (especially since it didn't come with a side). The waiter who served us was so racist and rude! We complained about the service. She kept laughing and mocked us only because we were Asian! The steak was the worst steak we had, but worst of all was when we asked if they have fish and chips, she said we don't! A past Saturday sunset dinner was $$$, and might have been really worth it if ANY of the four entrees and a bowl of clam chowder had been served better than lukewarm. Ragged Point was the end of the line for northbound Cabrillo Highway motorists seeking scenic dining and lodging following the 2017 landslide that forced a 14-month closure, reopened July 18, 2018. The beauty of its geography is inarguable. Some brave beachgoers hike down a path on a steep cliff to the tiny coastal indentation on whose shore they appear to be the size of ants to those scanning Ragged Point. Had the food not been so disappointing, a third star would reward the surroundings, including the restaurant building and grounds. Service was workmanlike, too. The food/price might be better tolerated if a party were to get a table (if/when dine-in resumes), have a round or two of beverages, order dinner, add condiments and extras, pick at it, then pack it to go and heat it all off-site. Strange place to eat.. Large, open, echoey atmosphere with amazing views. Service was pretty bad, servers seemed unhappy and put out. Food was ok at best, small portions, bland and under cooked. We were staying in Ragged Point Inn and ordering room service for breakfast from Ragged Point Restaurant. It was pretty disappointing to say the least. We ordered the California Veggie Scramble. We were keen on a vegetarian scramble and since the menu didn't mention egg in the ingredients we asked them before placing the order if it came with egg. The gentleman on the phone told us it didn't. Thats great we thought and went for it. When it arrived it was made with eggs, it was lacking salt, pepper or any flavor. There was no salt and pepper included in the toppings that arrived with it. We ordered sourdough toast which wasn't served either. We had to call in to remind them to send it. The country potatoes didn't have much flavor either. We also placed an order of the waffles which were very dry. Did not come accompanied with any maple syrup. The plate of fruits were fresh. At first we were a little sceptical due to the reviews, but we had a great experience. We ate every entree on the dinner menu and ate breakfast every day. Every experience was a positive one and their wine was very good as well (we had their cab and merlot). Their customer service was awesome. My wife's favorite was the chicken and mine was the big sur. While the food was great, the proportions are not equal to the pricing and for that reason they loose a star. read more

My husband and I stopped here for lunch. We normally eat at the burger place, but they are apparently closed. We decided to splurge and go to the restaurant. I ordered the Taco Salad and since I am allergic to cilantro, confirmed with the waitress whom in turn confirmed with the chef that there wasn't any in the salad. I was brought the salad, and it did contain cilantro. I ate what I could of the salad and when she returned, I showed her the cilantro that was found. She didn't charge me for it, which was really nice. Not long after leaving my husband started not feeling well. It turns out that the steak sandwich with chimichurri was spoiled. He ended up with food poisoning. I called the restaurant the next day, the person asked if we had a doctor's note. I said that I wasn't going to pay to go to the doctor, when it was obvious what it was. I told her we just wanted them to check their food to make sure no one else would get sick. Hopefully no one did. Moral of the story...be careful eating there. Apparently, they don't know what they are cooking. read more

Extremely disappointed with the restaurant. When we came last year, the menu was more affordable with food options for everyone, including burgers and fries. Now, there are 6 really expensive entrees that we didn't want, but there are no other restaurants close by. We felt forced to get the steak and it wasn't even that good. And the side was 3 mediocre slices of potato... I'm hoping and praying the menu goes back to how it was before my wedding in June. My husband and I were camping at San Simeon State Park all week and decided to come up here for lunch. This is a beautiful venue. The grounds and views of the ocean are breathtaking. Definitely worth a trip. Sadly, the restaurant didn't prove as up to snuff as the beautiful venue. Really good service. We were immediately seated and brought water and menus. We were really looking forward to a nice relaxing lunch outside on their beautiful patio. My husband ordered the clam chowder and said it was delicious. People around us who ordered their Fish and Chips seemed really happy with their meal. I ordered the Tagine appetizer for my Entree. I have had Tagine before and loved it. The presentation was nice, but the chicken was so dry and certainly did not even have a resemblance of Tagine chicken. They served two sauces that were really bland and not very good at all. The best salad I have had so far after 5 weeks in the USA! The brisket was delicious too.

How does this place only have 2 1/2 stars? I couldn't check in...cause my cell phone didn't have service...so maybe that's why? Haha. Anyways, we had a group of 15 arrive without any notice for breakfast about 10 am on a Sunday. The staff didn't blink, they put an area together quickly and seated us. Our server, Gaby, handled all our requests with speed and accuracy and when the food came out, it was awesome! I had the Spinach Frittata and she had the Ragged Point Breakfast with Bacon. We both loved it. I added an OJ and she had a Coke. After breakfast, we walked around the grounds...sadly there was a lot of fog, but it was still beautiful and awesome. Parking here can get tight later in the day and if you are bringing a group, try to call ahead. We'll do that next time. read more

DO NOT EAT HERE!!! PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! Story: My friends and I had a reservation but there was no one at front counter to seat us. After hunting down the only server in the whole restaurant, the waiter said "come here" and pointed at a group of unset tables. It doesn't sound like much, but it was weird to be treated so bluntly by a waiter at a seemingly higher end restaurant. The server rudely told us to sit wherever we wanted even though the nature of the restaurant requires being led to a table. There were no plates nor silverware for the bread and butter. We scraped the butter out of the little cups with our hands because the server was nowhere to be seen for 15 mins. The "biryani" was disgusting. Hard uncooked potatoes, unseasoned and uncooked cauliflower. All the dishes we ordered were bad but this was awful. No one in our group of 4 had ever sent a dish back at a restaurant but this was appalling. We were not going to spend $22 on rice and green beans, the only edible part of the dish. They put a dry half pickle on my burger. How are pickles dry?!?! It was literally a pickle cut lengthwise with the stem ends still attached and popped onto the party. We ordered the burger medium well, but the center of the patty was cold and red. Chowder was cold in the middle, hot on the outside. Obviously microwaved. In conclusion, most of the food was very mediocre, but terrible considering the prices. The biryani was exceptionally bad and whoever sent that out should be ashamed. So we asked to talk to the manager, but was aggressively confronted by server claiming that there is no supervisor. "What's up bro? I'm the manager." he said as he puffed out his chest and got into my friends personal space. It appears he had a weird power boner over being "in charge" at the illustrious Ragged Point Inn Restaurant. We respectfully requested the biryani be taken off the bill, and he agreed but was visibly upset. We eventually got the bill after another 15 minutes, then after waiting another ten, we got up to pay at the front. We tried to tell the server that we understood the situation wasn't entirely his fault, but that his demeanor was rude and condescending. This really got him flustered. He claimed that that everyone else in the restaurant was understandable [sic] and satisfied even though we had talked to other tables and they expressed a similar disgust at their experience. Meh, but go anyways. This restaurant has been mediocre to decent over the years. I've had a good meal here a couple times but I once got moldy tomatoes on a sandwich. The servers aren't well trained. But Ragged Point is an amazing place and the only good food option nearby in Big Sur is 40 minutes north at The Lucia Lodge. The grounds at Ragged Point are gorgeous, the coffee shop is great, the hotel rooms are nice...Ragged Point is well worth your time. Just don't expect to get wowed by the restaurant.
