I've gotten pedicures here twice in the past few months & really wanted to like them because they are so close to my home, but both times I left disappointed. The first time felt rushed, the water was cold, and the polish job was sloppy. The second time the place was mostly empty so they took their time and the water was pleasantly warm, but the Nail Technician didn't want to remove my glitter nail polish with acetone so she pulled out a dremel tool with a dog paw logo on it (possibly a dog grooming tool) & filed the polish off with that. It left grooves in my big toe nails. She also didn't put a new, clean sanding band on the tool so she reused an old one on me which is a health violation. They are porous, like nail files and buffers, and are one time use only items. The nail tech also dropped the pumice stone on the floor while scrubbing my feet & picked it up & kept using it. The staff is pleasant, but the cleanliness practices here are questionable. I will not be returning again. read more

I've never in my life have seen an hour long pedicure. If you want to see it for yourself go here. It was my mistake waiting until late afternoon to get my nails done, but I went from salon to salon for a simple fill in and pedicure. And all of them were packed. I sat for over an hour waiting for a technician, and only when she saw me looking up other nail salons is when she told someone to get up so she could do my nails. The woman doing my nails sloppily removed the old gel with her drill, which left little patches of the color on the sides of the nail. She also tried to change the shape of the nail with her drill, when I asked her to stop- she got upset. She also botched up the painting of the nails. This has got to be one of the last reasonably priced mani pedi spots in Astoria. My extended family has actually been coming here for years but I only went in this last Sunday. I did a walk in after realizing almost every other nail salon in the Steinway Street Vicinity had closed on a Sunday at 4pm. They immediately took me in and they took care of me. Staff was so accommodating and so nice. I will definitely be coming back here for additional services. read more

I came here because it was close to my new apartment and thought it would be convenient if it became my new nail spot. It was very displeased with the service. I went for a mani and pedi and my nails were left worst than when I went in. They didn't do a good job scraping my feet. Last my favorite pedicurist is Jessica she's sweet she takes her time and you leave with smooth feet with shiny nails . I love rainbows n I would truly recommend this place my family and friends come here and never are dissatisfied .. The bedside manner are truly impressive and inviting . Sad to update my review. Made an apt with Kevin for 2 pm. It is 2:33 and all that has happened was someone else removed my existing nail polish. I understand waiting a little bit if they are busy.. but 30 minutes of my life I'll never get back when I made an appointment is rude. DO NOT GO HERE. A couple of years ago, I stumbled upon this place while shopping along Steinway. I was new to the area at the time and wanted an inexpensive manicure...which I got. But I got so much more than I bargained for. I will spare you the painful, gory details, but I ended up contracting something called periungual warts from this salon. It is the most difficult form of wart to treat and they cluster around the FINGERNAIL as opposed to other areas of the hands (ahem, cough-cough, nail salon!) They can frequently grow under your nailbeds, making them even more difficult to combat. I had never had issues with warts or lesions on my hands, or anywhere else on my body for that matter, prior to this. Nor had I had a salon manicure in quite some time. So, I can say with absolute 100% certainty they came from this salon. It took me a year and a half of battling these things to get rid of them, seeing my dermatologist like clockwork for cryotherapy, and even undergoing painful injections of Bleomycin (which is a weakened form of chemotherapy that destroys DNA strands.) They were that resistant. It's possible that in the past couple of years, they've cleaned up their act, but once was enough for me. I care not to find out. I will never, ever, ever, EVER set foot in this establishment ever again and I caution friends against going here. If I could give this place negative 100 stars, I would. read more

This salon is by far the worst I've ever been to. First time I came was back in December to get a full set of tips.. I wanted them shaped as stiletto nails (& I showed her a picture of what they looked like) & painted red for the holidays. The lady doing them had NO idea what she was doing and they didn't look like stiletto nails they looked like oval shaped nails. That lasted me for 4 days until they broke. I recently went (3 days ago) for a gel manicure because I'm trying to grow out my nails & wanted to give them another try. Another lady did them this time & she didn't clean all around fm nails and was very rude and frustrating to talk to. The salon in general is great, I've been there several times and have had great services. However, the last time I went to Rainbow Nails I was very disappointed - hence the 3 star rating. I had just gotten off a long flight, and my feet were so swollen and hurt soooooooooo bad, so I decided I needed a pedicure. Now - 7pm in Astoria, usually my last thought is of a pedicure - however, OWWW. So, all I wanted to do was soak my feet in that warm minty water. However, my pedicure artist was more interested in getting it done, that I only got to soak for about 3 minutes. What a waste! The prices were good, but after hearing me talk about how swollen and hurting my feet were, you'd think she'd let me just soak! They looked amazing afterward though - although they still hurt. At a quick glance my nails look good but when I go home I see the crooked shape and unsmooth nail job that I payed for smh. There was an older woman who called the employees and asked me to wait 15 minutes because one of the ladies was on her was but her bus got delayed. Monica took care of me and she did an amazing job!! She took about an hour but that's because I needed a lot of work done to my nails. She was very nice and pleasant.
