I had my very first experience at Rajdhani (unlimited Thali) last year during Diwali season. Tbh I liked it very much! But when I visited again last Sunday, I was kinda disappointed coz of following things: - daal was not good. It was watery and tasted nothing like daal. - they served cabbage with carrots! I mean seriously? Who likes to eat that in a premium restaurant? -chutney was served at the very end of the meal. By this time I had already eaten Dhokla dry. - Chilli pakora was very average - I don't know what other things they served! They said it's Kadhi but it wasn't sour, then they served some steamed gram flour batter sabzi which was fine. But certainly not restaurant quality. There was again some other sabzi with besan and I didn't get what exactly it was! - they didn't serve papad this time. - their faluda ice cream is actually served without faluda! Lol - their pulao was weird. It seemed like stale rice. In any restaurant when you order thali, you expect at least one exciting sabzi be it paneer or chickpeas or mix veg. But I was really surprised with their Thali on Sunday! I think they have changed their chef! Coz the food I remembered from last year was actually good. Gujrati Thali- AYCE - means that timing is everything. So expect to wait. If you time it right, you can get in immediately and start eating soon after they open. If you arrive half an hour or more after they open and you don't get into the first 'seating', then you will have to wait until the first 'seating' is done eating which may take over an hour. We got in yesterday at the first seating and did not wait long. They don't accept reservations. Also- it's all vegetarian. As soon as I sat down and inhaled the flood of fragrances from our soon-to-be-lunch, I imagined wedding-size vats of curries, veggies and soups boiling in the kitchen. First out came the baked goods: roti- tortilla-ish rounds of soft flour, but moister and more flavorful, on the same platter with the puri- which are puffed flour rounds. Then the dhokla- moist squares of yellow cake made from chickpea flour with a slightly sour flavor, delicious alone or dipped in the tomato broth. You can choose from white rice and yellow rice with peas. My favorite dishes were the green bean sabji and the potato masala but the dal was good too- there is a bit of debate on this last one because my friend insisted it was mung beans and not lentils? What is more important however, is that when the mint and turmeric chutneys come around- get a lot! because these tart and zesty condiments are not offered again at all during your meal! I sopped up every last drop with my roti and puri. The chutneys are also great with the fried lentil pancakes. Spoons are provided but don't be afraid to eat with your hand the traditional way. Just make sure to only use your right hand to bring food to your mouth. Using your left is considered rude. At the end of service, a bowl of water with lemon is provided for rinsing. Each table has a dessert menu taped to it so you can peruse it during your entire meal to choose one. Since it was a warm day we all chose the falooda- bright pink, rose ice cream served with crunchy basil seeds which was perfectly refreshing and light. Both water and a sour (non-sweet) yogurt beverage- chaas- are provided and refilled frequently during your meal. Overall, everything was delicious- and while it was not the absolute best I've ever had, it was seriously amazing for an AYCE restaurant. It can't be beat unless you cook it all yourself at home from scratch- which is nearly impossible without slaving in the kitchen for days. Thus the 5*- I have to give credit for the incredible deal and variety of dishes. Apparently loyal Gujratis drive in regularly from San Diego and beyond to enjoy this tasty feast, and I can certainly see why. read more

Every time I make a trip to LA, I stop by here. You can order the unlimited thali for $16.49, they serve 2 appetizers, 3 vegetables, dal, kadhi and 2 rice options. Their freshly made rotis can be had with or without ghee (butter) They also serve puris. Food is fresh, piping hot and served right away and sooooo delicious!! I love their khaman (steamed savory chick pea flour bites) which are melt in your mouth soft and bursting with flavor with tempering of mustard seeds, green chilies and cilantro. Desert is included. My issue with this place is the price. $30 per person is pretty steep, considering you can pay the same price for a buffet with waaay more options (like Shanawaaz), and with chai included. Who doesn't love a good AYCE restaurant?! Rajdhani sure delivers with excellent Indian food. It was my first time coming here and I decided to go with the AYCE Thali at $16.99, plus a Mango Lassi. As soon as you sit down, the AYCE experience begins. The waiters all work together and bring out different sides and starters. I love how all the staff was very friendly and would explain each item to us, since I wasn't too familiar with the food. Everything tasted great and the mango lassi helped with the spiciness of the food. The highlight of my meal had to be trying the Falooda Ice Cream (which is included as a dessert for the AYCE). Our friends from San Diego (Shout out to Vijju maamu) were visiting us and we went to a Halloween event at the Cerritos Regional Park. After the kids were super tired at the event, we proceeded to Little India for dinner. Our friends recommended this restaurant and we tagged along as we had never dined here. This marks us trying out all the restaurants at Little India at least once. Side Story: "Plate meals" at any "Mess" or "Hotel" were what we relied upon during our various temple tours in India. As an intermediate student going from Gajuwaka to Maddilapalem changing buses at RTC Complex, I loved the 6 Rupee 50 Paisa plate meals during lunch time at Sri Venkata Krishna Mess close to the bus station. 6 Rupee 50 Paisa is 10 Cents at current exchange rate for a full meal. :O :O :O The main feature at this restaurant is a "Thali". The concept is a limited item buffet served onto your steel plate at your table by servers. 1) An empty steel plate is placed in front of you. Buttermilk and Water jugs are provided at your table. 2) Appetizers etc. are dropped on your plate. 3) Carbs (Roti, Puri), Protien (Lentil curry, Sambar etc.), Vitamins (Vegetable curries) are placed on your plate by servers. Steps 1, 2 & 3 are complete within couple of minutes of you being seated at your table. 4) Carbs (Rice/Pulao) are offered when servers notice that your plate is nearing completion. 5) Items from 2, 3, 4 are continuously offered when your plate is nearing completion. 6) Dessert at the end if you are done eating 2, 3 & 4. It cost us ~70.00 for 4 Thali's, and 2 orders of Puri for the toddlers. Pros: 1) Unique concept. Not many restaurants offer a dinner buffet in the greater LA area. (+1) 2) Everything tasted fresh and was served piping hot (Temperature). 3) Servers were sort of attentive and kept refilling all our food items. 4) Restaurant has a covered parking lot. Abundant seating. 5) Free Buttermilk ya'all (+1) Cons: 1) Expensive ~ 15/person for the variety of items offered. For less than this amount, other joints have non-vegetarian items too. (-1) 2) I forgot how intrusive the entire process is/was. There will be a constant flow of servers inquiring whether you would want the items they are carrying. We could not carry a conversation with our friends through the evening. (-2) 3) Items had flavor. However they were not hot (spicy) at all. Some of the curries tasted sweet. (-1) 4) Server had to reach over me to serve on Mrs's plate. (-1) I can cross this off from the list of things to try here. However, most of the cons here had to do with my personal preferences and not something wrong with the restaurant itself. I would definitely recommend trying this restaurant at least once to experience a Thali. read more

Vegetarian buffet where they bring the food to you! My mom and I came here upon recommendation by a friend and were pleasantly surprised at the service and the food. We tried a bunch of Indian dishes--daal, okra stew, peas, purri, chapati, etc. The deal is about $13 per person for all you can eat. The food was flavorful and super spicy but our waitress was kind enough to bring some yogurt to help make it more palatable. I LOVE Rajdhani!! Its my one of my favorite restaurants in SoCal. This place only has vegetarian food with so many options. They serve a gujarati thali, its a vegetarian buffet where they bring the food to you. I am a gujarati and I have tried a lot of restaurants in India that serve gujarati thalis and so I feel very confident in my recommendation that this is the best gujarati food you will have in LA. They serve warm rotis with ghee and there is lentils (mung,chana, etc), dal, kadhi and aloo or cabbage sabzi, rice, khichdi, samoasa or pakoras or some other type of appetizers and they also have a desert in the end which you can chose from. I remember some options are gulab jamun, faluda or gajar halwa. Plus, all this food is UNLIMITED. The food is always fresh and the service is nice as well. They also have parking garage next to the restaurant. About the feel of the restaurant, this place is a little crowded at times and makes me feel nervous because the tables are jammed together. Another downside is that it is closed on Mondays but then so are most restaurants in Artesia. But, overall an amazing place which I would recommend to anyone who wants to try authentic gujarati indian food. read more

I love Rajdhani- one of my favorite places to eat in Cerritos/Artesia. Four and a half stars because the price is a bit high for the area. Unless you show up super hungry, you can probably get a comparable amount of food for the $14 you'd pay here so that is the main con. Food wise, everything has been great when I have gone. The shaak (vegetable curries) have always been really good and lots of choices. I also love the rice and khadi (which is kind of a yogurt based gravy that is yellow in color) and daal. I love dhokla so I always manage to eat a lot of that. The food is plentiful and the staff is always willing to bring out what you want and are very friendly. You can also get masala taak (spiced buttermilk) which can cool you down after eating the food. Choice of dessert is included after. I would definitely recommend going to Rajdhani if you are hungry and want a lot of food. It is also a nice way to support home cooked Indian food- literally, the owner told us that the ladies who cook there use their own recipes so it is real Gujrati cooking. read more

I like the concept of the restaurant-that they serve one set menu per day and it's all you can eat. At the end of the meal, you have the choice of one dessert from their list of desserts. Overall, I thought the food was decent. It tasted home cooked and wasn't too spicy and was pretty flavorful. I do think some of the dishes tasted pretty similar though and would've liked to see some variety in the options. I got the shrikhand, which was okay, a little too sour for my taste. I tried my friends gulab jamun, which was delicious.
