The marinara is very sweet. If that's your thing, then this place will be number one on your list. But if you prefer a more balanced slice, then keep trekking. I tried the plain slice and the sicilian slice. As I wrote previously, the plain slice is very sweet. A saltier cheese would make for a great companion in this instance. The sicilian slice is very thick, deep dish thick. After eating it I felt as though I had just ate 4 slices. The pizzeria is small but accommodate a group of 8. Drink options are limited to Pepsi products, which is nice if you're a Pepsi fan. I get why this place gets high reviews. It's got that true neighborhood feel. Ok, but nothing great. Called to order pizza around 5:00 and was told there were no slices available. We could've waited for more to be made, since we were ordering another pizza anyways, but that didn't seem to be an option. Loved the toppings overload on the pizza; however, the olives tasted metallic. The sauce was flavorless. It tasted like tomato sauce and sugar, with no spices or seasoning. The pizza was literally dripping in grease. Ziti and vodka sauce pizza was good, but not the best ever. Lasagna was ok, but nothing special. I think if the sauce was better it would've made s huge difference. Overall, the food we tried was just mediocre. I would try something else, but probably wouldn't order anything with the marinara here again. read more

Hands down, prob the best pizza in NJ. The consistency (22 years for me) of Frank's pizza is simply amazing. The quality of fresh ingredients and flavor is just something so unique and different than your typical pizza. The sauce has a thick texture with a sweet blend of spices that will blow you away! I have been eating Ralpho's pizza and sandwiches since I was a teenager. I have family in the area, and every time we visit them, I make certain to stop in for a meal or some takeout. It is a little hole in the wall location next to a dry cleaner and a convenience store, but it is a hidden gem in an otherwise average looking storefront. He makes a fine pizza, but the real star here are the sandwiches. Ah, the sandwiches! First, a sandwich needs excellent bread to set the stage. Frank, the current owner, bakes his own hoagie/hero/sub rolls and they are among the best sandwich/sub foundations I have ever had. I almost always get one of his named sandwiches, the one with roast beef and turkey. The RB is always excellent and perfectly rare and the turkey isn't that mush that too many places toss on subs. But the real secret here to his sub awesomeness getting it with lettuce, tomato onions and oil and vinegar. I don't know what it is about these simple ingredients, but that dressing, with the pop of the red onion he uses, and the light crunch of the mixed greens puts these sandwiches on a higher level. His six foot subs rock as well. The bread's a little different, with some sesame seeds on the bigger loaves, but I have eaten enough of these at family parties to know they are as good as his individual subs. His cheesesteaks are pretty damn good, too, and that's coming from someone who grew up in Philadelphia. My brother loves his meatball subs, and my relatives have ordered his platters of sausage and peppers, baked zitis etc. for parties countless times. All are delicious. But if you ever do go there, you have got to try one of the cold subs on his menu -- you will not be disappointed!!! read more

His sauce his cheese and most importantly his dough . You know it's great pIzza when you can eat it Luke warm and it still tastes fresh. This is a very small, very old school neighborhood pizza parlor. They must make decent pizza to stay in business but today for lunch, I went in and tried a hero. Very nice bread which they bake on premises. The hero was OK, maybe the cold cuts could have been just a little bit better. No real complaints. The guy behind the counter was friendly and fast. No reason to try this place if you are not local but OK overall. Next time I will buy a couple of slices and comment on the pizza. read more

my first visit to Ralpho's was as a child --circa 1987 before moving to California. This was my trucking familys stop on the way back to MA. We even have t-shirts they used to sell when Ralpho was the owner. The new owner since 1988/1989, Frank, is a great guy and run's the place. We went back Sept 28, 2009 (first time in 22 yrs!!) on our way to NYC.....+ its just as good as we remember. The food is SOOOOOOO good. Calzones being our favorite. the ingredients are simple, and made with alot of riccata cheese. No complaints.... great food, great price, home-town feel, and great service. We were in town visiting and looking for a good pizza place and Ralpho's Pizza was definitely it!! The pizza had the right tasting sauce, the cheese was flavorful and the crust was a perfect New York style thin crust (you also could order Sicilian and Pan style if you wanted). And to top it off, Frank the owner was just a great guy! Very nice, friendly and down to earth. I would definitely go back again and again to this place for pizza or any other Italian food. Ralpho's makes great pizza with great ingredients. The dough and cheese used are great. The sauce is good for pizza standards (I have very high standards for sauce since I make my own at home and regularly cook Italian dishes). If you order a pie with "toppings," Ralpho's puts the topping on first and cheese on top after -- that way the flavor of the toppings blend in with sauce and dough as well. Since I discovered this place about six weeks ago. I have been here only 4 or 5 times -- just a slice or two, or sometimes a whole pie -- and each time it has gotten better. That is because Frank, the owner, is very personal and makes the pizza to my tastes. I have twice ordered the pizza with onions (he uses red onions -- crispier and better tasting than yellow or spanish onions), although last night's onions were not as crispy, but still great. Well I don't think I will order pizza without the onions ever again (double negative there). The pizza is so goooooood with them. Last night, we had a well-done pie with meatballs on one half, sausage on the other half, and the red onions all over. My sister-in-law told me that she was actually dreaming about that pizza all day today. She particularly loved the onions. I have also had the bread a few times and it is very good. I used to get my Italian bread from Arthur Ave. in the Bronx, but I stopped passing through the Bronx for quite some time. Ralpho's bread (baked daily) is not the same kind as the ones I use to get in Little Italy, Bronx, but they more than satisfy me. They cost $1.50+tax each for a long skinny loaf of bread.
