My complaint has to be with the Deli Counter. Theres an older female associate, I asked her for 4lbs of low sodium browned chicken. She then stated, "what are you going to feed an army?" It was not in a joking tone. I had my toddler with me, she then asked me to go to the salad bar and get two plastic containers I thought it odd but went over there luckily a Male associate overheard regarding the containers and stepped in and took over assisting me. Her question to me is inappropriate and horrible customer service. I've never had this experience in any other grocery store. This is a good grocery store. I normally like to shop at more health food centered markets, but this is a good option when I can't go to one of those. It is a little more upscale then your normal Ralph's. They have a food bar with soups and salads which is a fast and easy option for food. The food selection is good here. Before it opened, the hype was that RFF would be much like Bristol Farms. Them's some big shoes to fill, and RFF does not live up for me. In truth, RFF is a LOT more like a traditional Ralphs than BF. But that's ok. In fact, in these economic times, it is actually better than ok. PROS: AWESOME cheese selection (at or above BF's), solid deli and prepared items, beautiful butcher shop items, good selection, nice wine (including high end wine) choices, self check out, sale prices and double coupons. CONS: Prices on some items (though this has improved in recent months), beer selection needs help (more micros, less Bud, please) and, at times, there seem to be WAY too few people working: getting assistance in the store can be a challenge. read more

A few things you gotta love about grocery stores in neighborhoods like Talega: 1) They're VERY clean and organized. 2) Customer service: friendly 3) The meat selections are DAMN GOOD. We picked up a 5lb. Bone-in Chuck Steak USDA Choice (amongst other things), brought it home, prepped and grilled it. INCREDIBLE. It's been a while since I had a chunk of flesh that made want to forget the silverware and just pick up the meat and bone and gnaw like a rabid caveman in a tree, keeping my nearly raw treat away form other predators. And, at the same time put me in a state of bliss, to savoring every little bit of succulent and tender muscle, fat , tendon and blood that was cooked very VERY rare. I went to this Ralph's one night with my mom and she bought a lot of laundry detergent with coupons (because my mom's a major couponer) when we went to the cashier, she seemed very rude and snippy. Like when one of the coupons weren't scanning, my mom said "well I mean it should probably--" and the cashier cut her off with "well you could hear the scanning noise if it did" she said it with a bitchy snotty tone. Then when we called the manager over the manager said that there was nothing they could do. The cashier was about to throw away the 1 unused coupons when my mom asked for them back. She could have manually punched in the coupon number or scan it with the scanning gun. When the cashier said "have a good evening" she said it very quickly/briefly and moved on to the next customer very quickly and didn't even let my mom say have a good evening back. By the way we were Asian and the other customers were Caucasian which means that she was racist. When we were about to leave we overheard her acting all vice and genuine with the Caucasian customers. My mom went to complain to the manager about the cashier and when we were almost out the door the cashier bolted over to the manager to ask what we said. We will NEVER COME HERE AGAIN. read more

Every see a market sparkle? This is the nicest Ralphs--so clean, so fresh. You gotta consider the location. Talega is the Beverly Hills of San Clemente (and maybe even all of south county). All the housewives come here after their massages, and then the kiddies trample through after school lets out. I haven't seen any pomeranians or pugs yet, but it's only a matter of time. Their produce displays are always clean. I love how the frozen food aisles light up as you walk down them (I think that's ubiquitous nowadays but it gets me every time!). There are places to sit while you enjoy a drink from the Coffee Bean inside the store. All part of a complete SUPER market. I don't know why other people rated the price range so high. The prices are completely fair for a non-foo-foo market. read more

I have been a big fan since the day the opened. The wine cellar and cheese departments are pretty terrific for a grocery store. It was being billed as similar to Bristol Farm's, which I don't believe is true. That said, it is probably better priced than BF's which is good. The service for the most part is good. The meat department and cheese department staff are probably the highlight. The check out counter staff is probably the least friendly of the bunch, but it won't keep me going back. TIP: take advantage of the wines they have on discount and then buy at least 6 bottles, which earns you another 10% savings on the total wine order. You can mix and match the wines and save some pretty big dollars. read more

Nice little store, with good products but incredibly deceptive price display methods, which attempt to disguise high prices and mislead customers. For recent example, today a big card on a rack of individual bottles of wine proclaims $6.29 in REALLY BIG, BOLD NUMBERS !!!, making it seem like a pretty good price, But don't take a bottle to the cashier before taking the time to carefully study the very small print on the card: you'll find one must buy six bottles to get the BIG BOLD price but that some very small print indicates that a single bottle will actually cost almost twice as much, $11.99, although one could get it for two and a half dollars more than the BIG BOLD price, $8.99 with a Ralph's card. Keep in mind the BIG BOLD numbers are at least 10x larger than the small print, single bottle numbers, although yelp's font size will not permit replication. Because this Ralph's, and others like it, are the type of market which people tend to stop by for quick shopping excursions, rather than for stocking up by the case, this method of displaying multiple-item prices in huge "come on" numbers, while showing the true price of individual items in 10x smaller print is particularly misleading. Also, although most of the human cashiers in this store are quite friendly, Malia D's description of the rude and snippy older is very accurate of one I have encountered there on too many occasions, and several of the cashiers who provide "help" at the self-checkout registers seem to cultivate the knack for making customers feel stupid when they encounter difficulty with the machines. read more

Fellow yelpers, you've let me down! When in San Clemente on business today, I yelped, putting in the words "organic" and "lunch" and up came this selection. I thought it was an actual upscale market that is owned by some fellow who unfortunately shared the name with the demon grocery store chain. In order not be prejudice against all people named Ralph, I decided to give it a try. I even called ahead and specifically asked the deli if they had ready-made soup, organic and gluten free. I asked if they were affiliated with Ralphs the chain. Imagine my surprise when I pulled into the parking lot and say Ralphs the grocery chain. The soup, was not fresh made or organic. The ingredient list read like a laboratory inventory list, and not a farm stand. Like in most chain stores, the actual health whole food options were limited. I cannot believe this has been compared to Whole Foods, or Farmers Markets in their reviews. Seriously! I am a little outraged. This is the same chemical crap in dressed up in high heels. I have been going to this store every business day for a long time for their salad bar and sandwich counter. This Ralph's is one of the upper end stores and the employee's are always friendly and helpful. In the last month, management made a decision to take both of them out. If you want lunch, this is no longer the place to go unless you like sushi which is very well prepared. The employee's I talked to thought that was a dumb move. I also ran into a few customers and I overheard them asking where the two sections were and they were very surprised by management's move. read more

Counting myself lucky that I have this Ralph's as my local grocery store and pharmacy. I've been in several Ralph's, but this one definitely beats them all in design, cleanliness and helpfulness. They have most of what I need... I do wish they carried organic berries and grapes, though. Maybe one day...? Also, the rotiserrie chicken needed 20 minutes more cooking - it was pink inside. But they did overcook the fried chicken. Anyway, lesson to me - just make my own chicken, with my own spices, just the way I want it. read more

Lauren Pilgrim has the most amazing customer service!!! She is conscientious, has a warm and pleasant personality, a ready smile, and follow through that we all seek as shoppers! I had ordered a couple of cases of cabernet sauvignon for a fundraiser and for whatever reasons, the order failed to be fulfilled. When the event was just a couple of days away, Lauren went to another Ralph's store to get the bottles necessary so we had two cases just in time for our event. Kroger/Ralph's - since you can't clone this amazing manager, get more like her in our local stores! She is a good reason why we are loyal to Ralph's! read more

I like this Ralph's location and find the staff very helpful. The deli has Boars Head products which I love. I have never had to return anything that was below par. I see that some others have complained about the store. I am sending this in just to balance the negatives with my own positive experiences. By the way, I think all stores have some freshness issues--(even TraderJoe's which is one of my other favorites). A good store will acknowledge the problem and process the return without a fuss. This particular Ralph's location is probably my favorite. I live in the Talega area of San Clemente so this is the closest Ralph's to me and it's so nice being able to stop at the grocery store on my way home from work and be able to pick up the items I need for cooking that night. Every time of come here (which is probably 4-5 times a month for the past 2 years) has been phenomenal. If I have a question, there's always someone there to help me find the answer. Whether they know the answer or not, they get someone to lead me in the right direction. I'm thankful to have such a well-staffed Ralph's right by where I live. read more

First and foremost, this is NOT a $$$. Maybe a $$. I'm a broke college student and I can afford to shop here, so $$$ is a ridiculous exaggeration of the actual prices here. As a Talega resident, we really only have 2 grocers that are very nearby: Ralph's Fresh Fare and Albertson's. I choose Ralph's because I've gotten consistently good service there. I've forgotten to use my Ralph's club number, and the manager/supervisor was super sweet about fixing it for me. She's there a lot and she's always been really nice to me when a lot of businesses are rude to people my age. They have a pretty good selection of organic produce at good prices. I am a big believer in organic, so I love to see that. As a drinker, I am happy that I always see at least a couple decent (doesn't come in a can...) beer on sale at all times. They also have the buy 6, get 30% off deal on all wine, beer, liquor. This Ralph's has both regular and self checkout. It's very clean, and I've never experienced a long wait time when purchasing groceries. There is a coffee place inside, although I've truthfully never ordered anything there. If you know where to look, they place cheeses on clearance sales up to a month (maybe more?) before the Sell By date. Being low in the cash department, I can often be found haunting this section. Also, the icing on the cake for me is that they are open late. I'm a night owl, so I like shopping at like 10 pm. Ralph's is still open at this hour, so it makes my day. read more

Love this Ralphs location, which is always clean and well stocked. Very convenient for me to stop on my way home from work to grab a few things and there is usually a lot of friendly cashiers to get you out quick! With this being said i have to say there is a Spoiler cashier!! This nightmare person had the audacity to bust my balls about using a hundred dollar bill saying (actually angrily gasping) "it's going to whip my drawer out of cash". I really don't give a shit considering i am sure the store has plenty of cash on hand!!! As a business owner i would NEVER complain to a customer about any payment method.... What an idiot she is.... I don't know who reads Yelp reviews about Ralph's, but this is a great location. Never ever crowded which makes it easy to get in and out quickly. In fact often the bagger's are waiting with no customers. Definitely fits the area, you pay a little more for luxury. read more

Ralphs Fresh Fare...I have to admit I think San Clemente kinda dropped the ball on this one, it really should have been a Whole Foods type of store which is something we desperately need in this area. It's really just a high end standard grocery store. So yes, it's very pleasant to shop in, it's never crowded, the staff is A-1, and they have a few more "amenities" then they do at a standard Ralph's, so it's really good for a standard grocery store :) I split my food bill between here and Trader Joes but really would like some alternatives. Indeed it's nice to have a store where organically grown produce and a limited selection of organic products are available in my neighborhood. I must say.. the organic items are excessively overpriced. I have to drive a good 25 minutes to Mother's Market or 45 minute's to Whole Foods to see an enormously better selection of goods at better prices. It is worth the drive to Whole Foods though. I do love the sushi bar in our Ralph's Fresh though. Perfect for quick, healthy lunch. Brown rice avocado roll is the best and the sushi staff are super friendly and very talented chefs! read more

I really like this Ralph's. It has a large selection and they do digital coupons so I can load them onto my saver's card automatically. It's always well-stocked and the staff is very friendly. There are great deals, too, if you know how and where to look. Tip: If you go later at night the guy at one of those pre-made food counters will give you the food they would have thrown away for super cheap. Corn dog for $.50? I'm in love. =) read more

I couldn't be happier with this neighborhood grocery store near where my son lives! I called the store ahead of Thanksgiving to see if they could put aside a 12-lb turkey for me to pick up on the day before- they could. I then asked if they had someone there who could spatchcock it (take out the backbone) since my son's oven was limited in height- yes they could, indeed! When I arrived, the nice man (Freddie) presented me with my turkey wrapped tightly in cling film on a foam tray, complete with giblets and the extra bones tucked inside for making gravy. I was so surprised that such special service could be had from an "everyday" Kroger grocery store, and with such friendly service. I then bought all the rest of the necessary fixings from the store and was very pleased with the selection, presentation, and prices. read more

I used to go to Albertsons, but got tired of the outrageous prices and lack of deals. Ralphs has completely won me over on price, selection, quality, and service. They also keep a point total of your purchases that equal free $ down the road. The only reason they dont get a 5 star is due to their Produce department. I'm a San Clemente local and I'm impressed with the fresh food and ready to eat food items that were available in the deli area. Food was good, I got shrimp and crab salad and took a box of meatloaf. Don't expect much friendly service at 6 PM though, it was tough to get service from the deli and the baggers are so distracted to offer a little customer service. read more

Be very careful what you buy from this location, I was sold an expired item that resulted in me having food poisoning for 3 days straight. I had to take time off work and I couldn't leave my house for the duration of the illness. After telling the manager about my experience they gave me a 25 dollar gift card which made it all worth it. So a month later I thought hey.. that couldn't happen again right. Went to the deli and got a simple drink, there was literally DIRT in my cup. I went back to return it and get a clean one, I got yet another cup filled with dirt.. I am astounded at how little they care about sanitation, I think I'd be better off going to 7 /11 for my grocery needs. read more
