I've always loved that they include plenty of bamboo shoots and mushrooms, but this time there were so few I could literally count them -- about three pieces each. Their staff is super nice and apologetic about the wait but it's not their fault if all these people decided to all eat there at the same time. Food - Tonkotsu Ramen Medium - so good. The egg was cooked perfectly. The pork was super tender. The broth was amazing. The only thing is their spice level. Mild, you can't even taste the spice. Medium, is like a normal mild. Next time I will need to get hot. Black Garlic Medium - the flavor is on point. You can really taste the garlic. It's pretty good. Shoyu Ramen Mild - it's ok. My 6 yr old loved it. I guess it's perfect for the little ones. BBQ chicken - talk about a big serving. The chicken was cooked perfectly. It was still juicy and not dry. My whole family loved it. We couldn't make it to our regular Ramen spot in San Jose due to the holiday traffic, so decided to check out a new local ramen place that just opened. The line was long, patrons waiting for their orders...all good signs right? Once seated, we can't wait to dig in! Unfortunately, this ramen didn't meet our standards. The broth had no flavor. The spare ribs were ok, but didn't compliment the dish at all. The Karage we're used to is fresh chicken fried to perfection with a delicious sauce that accompanies the dish. Unfortunately, we got frozen breaded chicken that had no flavor, and a sauce you can tell came straight out of a jar. The black garlic oil we ordered on the side was actually burnt garlic oil. Not sure if these are menu items they are testing out, but I do know if you don't put any love into your food, people don't come back. Great potential. I don't believe we have another ramen shop in Vacaville so I was very excited to try Ramen 101. The last ramen I had was the vending machine ramen at Milk Tea Lab (which was surprisingly good). Walking in around 3pm on a Sunday it was crowded. All the inside tables were taken. They seem very popular. So I asked about the outside tables. We'd have to order to go, but we went for it. The service was quick and friendly. The server brought the packaged food out to us at the table outside. The ramen was packaged separately from the hot soup. That's a good sign. If I ever got to go and planned to eat it at home I know my noodles won't be soggy. I ordered the tonkatsu ramen with mild broth. I didn't find the broth spicy. Overall I'd say it was okay. Maybe my tastebuds had been spoiled by ramen in Japan. Ramen 101 had good sized portions. It would probably be better if we dined in. My husband and I dined at the Ramen 101 in Concord before, so we were a little surprised when we discovered that they were putting one in Vacaville. We dined at this Ramen 101 location last weekend. Since it was a Saturday night, it was quite busy. Nearly all of the tables were filled with other patrons dining there. Luckily there was one table available for us after we asked the staff members. The service is decent. You can tell that the staff gets along well with one another, which is always a good thing. The woman that took our order was a little distracted with her conversation with other employees there, but my husband can be quite assertive when needed. They are also pretty quick on cleaning up each table after patrons leave, which is necessary since this place seems to get a lot of traffic. Despite our gyoza and ramen being delivered to our table rather quickly after placing our order, the ramen was disappointing. I intentionally ordered my Black Garlic Ramen as non-spicy so I can taste whether or not the broth was seasoned. The broth was extremely flavorless, even with the garlic in it! The chashu was also not seasoned well. My husband was also less than thrilled with his spicy chicken ramen meal. The good things I can say about the meal are the portion size (which is decent for the amount you pay for), the gyoza was actually alright, and the noodles were cooked well. Overall, my husband and I weren't too impressed with our visit to this Ramen 101 location in Vacaville. Since it's in a shopping plaza, there's a lot of parking spaces, but just a few of them are really close to the restaurant itself. Now, the ramen here is solid at best. The broth is pretty watery and lacking some flavor. The noodles are somewhat chewy and the chashu is alright. But if you're looking for high quality ramen, I'd suggest looking elsewhere. If the ramen is a bit lacking, why am I still giving this place a 4 star? Well, that's because I would like to highlight the BBQ plates that this place has. All the BBQ plates come with the protein of your choice (bbq chicken, chicken katsu, bbq beef, and kalbi),rice, and vegetables (cabbage and broccoli). I've tried almost all the meats except the chicken katsu and they're incredibly delicious! Both the chicken and the beef are marinated well and pack a lot of flavor. They give very generous of the meat too, especially the kalbi! They give quite a bit of the kalbi for such a lower price than I expected. Most places that I am aware of have their kalbi AT LEAST $20 so imagine my surprise you can get a good portion of them for a rice plate at $17! Definitely a steal!! We just tried Ramen 101 for the first time recently . I got the black garlic ramen. It wasn't bad but I wouldn't get it again . The flavor was really good but it didn't stick to the noodles. My husband got the bbq plate with short ribs, chicken and beef . It was DELICIOUS. We went back again and I got my own bbq plate. It was delicious! This time we brought the kids and they also enjoyed it. We will definitely be back! read more

There is a reason for the 1 star. This branch is one of the better ones I've been to. Harder to park but the place is clean. Black garlic ramen was good as well as the Agedashi tofu. But their prawn tempura was not. It is really a tiny shrimp and has so much breading. This is not the issue here tho. My 87 year old mom came in as I parked the car. The guy at the counter ( going Asian looking , bald guy) told her she cannot sit until she orders. Mind you , she is 87 years old. So she just stood there waiting for me and when I came in , I asked "mom, why are you not sitting ?" And she said he won't let her sit. This is so irritating to me I asked the guy why he won't let her sit and he continued to say that she has to order first. And I said she s 87 and she will sit because she needs to sit and cannot stand for long periods of time. This is very appalling to me. The broth was really salty, which is weird because a lot of the other reviews said it was bland - so it sounds like the broth isn't consistent. Even my husband thought his was salty and he's usually the kind of guy to add more salt to his food. My tonkotsu came with two thin slices of pork which was underwhelming. Fried Oyster- still wet in the middle and lightly fried on the outside. I do like both raw and fried oysters but not this. Normally fried oysters are cooked inside and out. It threw me off. I most likely won't come back because I enjoy getting ramen in the bay (SF, Alameda..etc) where it's more authentic and satisfies my craving. Finally !!! A ramen place in Vacaville, and the ramen is pretty good !! I asked which flavor is the most popular and was told it's a the tonkotsu ramen. The flavor of the soup is very rich and the pork was really tasty (better than what I've had in Walnut Creek). The menu is simple and easy to follow. We also ordered the following: Grilled whole squid: cooked perfectly, it wasn't chewy and the sauce it comes with is amazing. Edamame: loved it !! ...because it was seasoned with a good amount of salt. Gyoza: crispy and tasty BBQ chicken & BBQ beef: the meat had a lot of flavor and it came with rice. I honestly can't complain about this place. Vacaville has been in dire need of a ramen spot and this place is pretty up there for me. I have tried A LOT of ramen. My review is low based on the fact that I've tried so many different places. I'm a vegetarian and my tolerance for spice is low. So I got the vegetarian ramen with a mild spice. It was pretty spicy! There was no flavor, all spice. Ive never had ramen that wasn't flavorful! My mom got the chicken ramen and had the same experience. Something in the broth is just bland. Her ramen also had very large portions of chicken fat vs meat.
