But this time I chose to get the Tonkotsu ramen and now I'm wondering why I waited! It was DELICIOUS. FULL, hearty bowl, the broth is phenomenally rich and creamy, the egg a delight. I'm now sitting here a day later wondering when I'm going back because I'm still thinking about it and will absolutely need to go back for more! I ordered the Spicy Chicken Miso ramen ($19) and it came with a lot of chicken! I like that they don't charge you extra for it being spicy either. TLDR: Solid ramen spot. Would give a 4.5 but rounding up. CONTEXT: Came on a Friday night with my partner and a friend around 7:15pm. Were seated immediately. FOOD: We shared their Takoyaki (sadly only 4 pieces in one order) which I enjoyed even though I feel bad eating octopus. Then we each got our own bowls of noodles. I got the Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen ($20), which I really liked. Very creamy, a little kick with the spice (but not too much), half a soft boiled egg, and two slices of thick pork. My partner got the Curry Udon ($23). His noodles were a tad overcooked but the shrimp tempura in there was perfect - crispy and delicious. Curry broth was good too, was just bummed about the noodles being overcooked - they use the thinner udon noodles compared to most places. SERVICE: Good, no complaints! Goku is my "go-to" every time I'm in the NoMad area of Manhattan. While I usually stay at the Hotel Park Avenue (formerly "the Mondrian"), I'd make at least one stop at Goku. The service is always great, the vibe is chill and the food hits every single time. While I always go through the rigmarole of thumbing through the menu, my selection is the same each and every time: Chicken miso ramen and pork gyoza . They have something for all dietary needs and palates and they will make accommodations for any requested preference. The broth is so rich and fatty with the perfect amnt of spicyness (if you order the spicy kind). I always order straight noodles and it's the perfect texture and holds the broth amazingly. Don't even get me started on the EGG they add in there it doesn't even make sense how good it is. The pork buns are super good, but a bit pricy IMO for 2. I've only interacted with the restaurant when picking up my order, but the service is amazing and the staff is so sweet!!! I was in need of some hearty comfort food especially on a cloudy and rainy day in NYC. This location caught my attention with their bright red Ramen Goku neon sign at the front entrance. It offers Japanese dishes and one or two Goku themed dishes. The chicken dumplings were pan fried and bite size appetizers to enjoy before the main dish. I ordered the Shrimp Katsu Curry, this was exactly what I needed with crispy shrimps that filled me up and curry that was right level of creamy and thick sauce to pair with the rice. The curry was more potatoes over carrots ratio but still a delicious curry with big shrimp katsu. The music selection was mostly Japanese music which I absolutely enjoyed! My only issue was that the server who brought my dish didn't bring a spoon. So I asked for one and I could clearly hear the clash of silverware to get just a spoon. It was a bit unprofessional and loud especially when the space was calm and chill with music playing in the background. Ramen Goku is a very cozy restaurant but being relatively new, it is modern and clean. We ordered the takoyaki, gyoza, and several bowls of ramen. The gyoza were great but the takoyaki was easily the better of the two appetizers. Besides being very delicious, they were quite sizeable. The bowls of ramen though were just okay. We had the tonkotsu ramen and tantan ramen and felt that broth in both was a bit bland. The amount of meat in the bowls was also bit stingy. There are definitely more flavorful and creamier ramen bowls out there. Ramen Goku is still a decent choice though. Good appetizers and good selections of drinks too. read more

Came in hungry on a Saturday evening to this nice small ramen shop that has both indoor and outdoor seating. We both ordered the spicy tonkotsu ramen, which came super quickly. Everything about this ramen was perfect. The soup was uniquely creamy and not overloaded with salt, as is usual with other ramen places, the chasu was tender and full of flavor, and the ramen was cooked just right, with a little chewiness left to it. I rarely can compliment both the ramen and the soup when eating ramen but it was so good that we both inhaled the big bowl within 10 minutes! Will definitely come back again! Just a note- they only have 2 staff serving guests so they get quite busy after 7:30. They're constantly running from table to kitchen and answering calls for pickup. No soy sauce marinate. However, the black garlic from the broth gave it a bit of flavor. Appetizers: Karaage: 1/5. $10. It's below average due to the meat being dry. Some of the bigger pieces have some fat in it but overall, the way it's made doesn't trap the meat juice in it. Even dipping into the spicy mayo, it still wasn't good enough. I strongly dissuade ordering this. Pork Buns: $10 for two pieces. The buns were really good. They layer two thin slices of pork with cucumber, giving it a crunchy texture, and lettuce, absorbing the sauces, in between. The name and the decor are inspired by Dragon Ball Z. There's even a neon light image of the character, Goku on the wall. I tried the Takoyaki $8 and the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen $15.
