I'm giving this place 2 stars only because the food is decently priced and the portions are healthy. Otherwise it would get 1-1/2 stars if possible. Poor customer service. No greeting, but immediately "how many"...a "Hello" goes a long way. Once they sit you down and take your order...you'll have to flag them down if you need a refill or something. No check in to see if the food is ok. Interior is nicely decorated, but the tables are packed in there so you have to snuggle up to the table so you don't hit the person behind you. Bring a jacket cause 9 times out of 10 it's cold in there. On a positive note the bathroom is always clean which is impressive being that it is a single shared bathroom. So in that case I'll up my rating to 3 stars. But hey, food is ok and portions are healthy so I'll be crack again. read more

After reading some iffy reviews, I decided to give this place a try while in the area. My mother and I both ordered the chicken fried noodles with a side order of the gyoza. The portions were huge but the flavor was severely lacking in both dishes. The price was great ($12.25 for each of us) and the service was fast (it was 1:30pm) but I won't be back for the simple fact that the food was less than mediocre. read more

I decided to try Ramen-Ya for the first time today, and I wish I didn't. Personally, I didn't like the food. I got the miso ramen, and to me it was bland, and had a weird smell to the soup. Note to vegetarians - best veggie ramen I've had in a long time! There are TONS of veggies that add an extra crunch to the noodles. Broth is also well made. I'd suggest asking for some spicy sauce on the side and trying it out. Adds a nice kick. read more

I can't help but feel like this is where foreigners come to eat ramen. But let me explain why I think this.. I Went here earlier today with company. We always see this place and never went so out of sheer curiosity we said "LOOL lets go check it out!" The employees were rude. I ordered chicken katsu and the actual ramen itself was uncooked in some spots. It was nearly raw. The actual broth itself seemed to only taste like the sprouts. Not much else. The chicken katsu was great. I only wish that it was hot. We got eye rolls from the employees for asking them to take it back. Since when did being a patron at a restaurant become like middle school again? I hate giving one stars, the other location isn't as bad like this. But this one isn't great, darlings. Happy hour is when we come. 2-5pm you get free gyoza! And their gyoza is handmade- not that frozen stuff from the freezer. Service is usually a hit or miss. They're not very friendly but i really don't come here for the service. Combo A is our go to with chicken Katsu curry or the mochiko chicken! So good. read more

Walked in pretty slow in there shown to a small chair at the counter. Sat there for a few before I got a menu. Not too bad so far. Waitress comes over and says "what do you want". Hmm interesting customer service, but I figured it's late and it may get better. I placed my order and tried to hand the menu to the waitress. She ripped it out of my hand. Hmmm. I was craving some ramen so I came here. Upon first walking in, I got weird looks from the staff. None of them smiled or greeted me which I thought was kind of rude. A lot of them were just standing around. Anyway, I ended up ordering the Chicken Katsu Ramen and some gyoza. The gyoza was the best part of the meal and even that wasn't really tasty. Their Chicken Katsu Ramen has got to be one of the worst I've ever tasted. Absolutely no flavor in the noodles and the soup tastes like seafood. NO WHERE IN MY ORDER SHOULD THAT HAVE TASTED LIKE SEAFOOD. I had maybe 6 bites before I gave up and gave it to my boyfriend (whose stomach is like a black hole) and even he couldn't finish it. Ugh I don't know what I ate here. I just moved here and was craving some good Japanese ramen soup and this place happened to be nearby with a decent review rating I decided to give it a visit. I ordered a full size Miso Ramen bowl and a Chicken Katsu Curry Rice plate, and both dishes were just so underwhelming. First, the Ramen had some apparently badly prepared probably frozen then thawed Chashu meat which smelled quite terrible and was not appetizing at all. The noodles too was just ugh, not great. Soup base, ugh not great. And only other thing that was in it besides noodles were small amount of green onions and bean sprouts but the solidified meat juice particles from the Chashu meat was mixed in the soup in abundance, probably due to it not being cleaned off properly when the bowl was prepared, and it was just disgusting. And the Chicken Katsu Curry, the Katsu's were OK, not really great but most edible among everything else, shown on the menu it was served with dark brown curry which I expected, but instead it was served with plain golden curry, which is the reason for 2 star instead of 1, for at least the semi decent katsu's. Dishes just lacked depth in every aspect. Probably a Chinese owned place as every staff was Chinese, which I wouldn't have issues with as long as the food were great. I've been to China many times, used to frequent at several Chinese noodle places, but being from LA and being used to such great noodle houses as Daikokuya in DTLA, this place just couldn't even hold a candle. Seriously night and day. My cravings were left throughly unsated and I was just not impressed. And hence, to charge $26 something for those two poorly prepared entrees felt way too overpriced for what they were. And update, as what other reviews said, probably due to MSG they put in their food I got sleepy and had to take a nap soon after eating. My body's like a MSG detector, I eat something with MSG in it, my mouth gets all foamy and I get sleepy I gotta sleep. Changing my 2 star to 1 star now. Literally instant noodles would be better than what they serve here. Ramen-ya franchise I will avoid from here on out. read more

I went here a few months ago for the first time. I was having trouble figuring out what everything was. When I told the waitress, she said "okay" and walked away and didn't come back for 20 minutes. The second time I Decided to give it another go. When my husband and I walked in, 4 people were helping one guy pay his check. They looked at us and resumed what they were doing. When someone finally took us to a table, she acted as if we were being inconvenient to her. She never brought my husband's drink and charged us for it. When I made a mistake in my order and asked about it, she told me I should have ordered what the guy next to me at the bar ordered if that's what I wanted. I was very excited to try the new ramen place up the street. I ordered the Katsu ramen. It was just okay, and EXTREMELY SALTY! I ate less than half. I probably wouldn't give them a second chance. Went to this place with my friend the other day for dinner at around 530pm.. Like the other Ramen Ya branches, the food's good and portions are generous. I had the combo: wonton soup, gyoza and chicken katsu curry and my friend had the big bowl or noodles. The katsu curry came out first. Taste is the same as others, nothing so stellar about that. You know what the same as the other branches too? The servers.. They seem to be too eager to get you to leave as soon as you're done. I was eating slow towards the end with only four spoonfuls left before I reach the end. With the last spoonful left, one server came by and already touched my plate to put it away, I was like "ahhhhhh" and in my head I was like, "I'm still working on it". Don't mess with the girl and her food. And thus here we are. It was not like they were busy that time and a lot of people were waiting for tables. Two friends and I went there and agreed this place was simply awful. The noodles itself were ok but could have been better. Gyoza ramen bowl was horrid. The meat tasted like over salted beef jerky and dry. I think it was roast beef idk. The Gyoza was even worse, it was just cabbages and some thing else (not meat) inside it. The taste was awful. Don't get me wrong, the tempura shrimp was good, but if you're gonna have a name with the word "ramen" in it, the RAMEN should exceed my expectations. Beyond impressed. I wasn't too jazzed about trying this place but my husband insisted. The portions were huge, the prices were cheap (considering the portion sizes), the food was OUTSTANDING, and the servers were efficient; drinks kept full, food brought out promptly, and they were courteous, though maybe not personable. My kids absolutely loved the Katsu Curry and the Wonton Soup. And to top it all off, we were in the door, sat, fed, and paid in 40 minutes.....and we took our time eating what turned out to be waaaayyyy too much food. We'll be back. I came to this location a few days ago, and let me tell you....I almost caught a case. Immediately the waitress asks so quickly in an irritated way, "How many!?" and sits us at a table like she was busy or something. STILL with her rushful, don't got the time in a day attitude, I ordered and just let it go. My husband and I both got the combo A. I had the Shoyu Ramen and a mini Katsu curry. My katsu came first and it litterally took forever for my ramen to come out. I mean, it's called a "combo" for a reason.....IDIOTS. After giving us the bill, she IMMEDIATELY starts clearing the counter with her whole body up in my face, trying to grab all the dishes..... she couldn't let us stand up for 2 seconds?!? I had it already! I aggressively told her "you cannot wait till we get up and leave?!!" and she said "huh" and took some dishes in the back and waited until we were standing at the register to pay to continue. The girl at the register asked "Was everything okay today?" I said "NO" and she looked at me all puzzled and lost. As I waited for her to finish up, two girls walk up near the register, and there they went rapppin in their language while one of em never stopped looking at me. I told my husband she better look away, and all he was trynna do, is get me out asap (lol). I've only been here a week and I've been to this place twice so they must be doing something right. This time I had the big bowl ramen. It was so good. Just like the first time, I showed up at 2pm because they have "happy hour" from 2-5pm where you get free gyoza! Who doesn't love free stuff? The big bowl ramen was very filling. Lots of different ingredients to satisfy your taste buds. My only problem was that I couldn't get it spicy enough. I added so much hot pepper oil/flakes. This place is definitely one of my faves since I've been here in Hawaii. I've been to this place more than any other local restaurant. I love the chicken curry and their fried rice. Ramen Ya has some pretty good food, but service at this location sucks. The seating arrangement was tight, and maneuvering through the tables with a stroller was pretty difficult. The waiter rushed us to order and rudely questioned us about tip after our meal. We went around 1pm and it wasn't busy. There's no reason why we needed to be rushed. I hate this place and will never be back. My friend told me about it how you can get so much food for a decent price. So, I excitedly said yes. I have a 2 year old son who joined us for lunch. I got the wun ton soup, Mochiko chicken and gyoza combo. It looked so yummy! But was so the opposite. The gyoza was full of crunchy vegetables and no meat, tasted like the worst gyoza I've ever had. The won ton soup tasted like it was in dirty water and the mochiko chicken had no taste. But that wasn't the only thing that will keep me from ever coming back here again... My son is a toddle and everyone knows how kids can be. My son was crying and the waitresses were extremely rude to my son. They constantly rolled my eyes at me and my son and my son accidentally spilled a drink in the very beginning of our meal. As I was waiting for them to replace it so I could apologize no one ever came. Not to even give me water. So, I was thirsty for the whole thing. Then when I check out they charged me $2.05 for the drink that I took two sips of. I asked her, "you guys don't replace the drink, it was an accident". She says no we do. Without replacing it. So Spam is not a glorious food to me. It always tastes like varying flavors of spam...but my life has forever been changed in regards to this unassuming amalgamation of meats. The Katsu breading on the spam made it taste like a completely other animal (XD)! The saltiness of the spam, while often over powering was instead the perfect spotter for the great combination of tastes that present themselves to your unsuspecting palate. The Curry sauce itself is more along the sweet end of the spectrum than the spicy, which not my preference, but there was enough subtle spice to add a tang to offset it to a masterful level of accent. I've called in a take out order for the Combo A and the girl mentioned that it'll take 10 minutes to make which was great because I'm on a busy schedule. I get there within 5 minutes and the girl greets me in a not so friendly way. As I approach her, I have told her that I placed a take out order and gives me a menu. I repeat it again and she responds in a attitude. Like "What did you order?" And "what did it come with?" Then she leaves without mentioning that she'll check on it. She comes back out and tells me "it should be ready in a bit. Total $10.73." It would've been nice to say it in a polite way then rushing me. I asked for her name which is Crystal. We went during happy hour (surprise for us) and ordered pork fried rice, wonton ramen, and char siu pork. Everything was AMAZING! Seriously I wanted to go kiss the chef.
