A teeny tiny little ramen (and more!) restaurant with pretty good bites, an excellent lunch spot, but that doesn't stop a dedicated dinner rush from happening in the evening. The Lunch Specials are real stand out deals for a nice casual mid-day break. Personally, I've been a fan of the Tonkotsu (can't beat a good solid classic) and the cheesy katsu curry with a little takoyaki appetizer (ironically probably best left to cool off during the duration of the meal and enjoyed at a non-inferno temperature like a savory dessert. I don't hold this against Ramen Zuru as I know most takoyaki is served at blistering temperatures. Just take it in stride as certification of being freshly made.) The cheesy katsu curry is a good, solid, guaranteed-leftovers meal (Unless you're some serious sort of hungering). The little patch of salad that comes on the plate is so yummy with its dressing. The amount of rice is balanced to the curry. And the cheese? Oh, girl, the cheese. Not much drink variety but that's fine, it's the food that really stands out here. Now, to be fair, a little word to the wise for those with a little cushioning on their thighs: Those little rectangle chairs WILL get uncomfortable. It's usually better if you're wearing something that covers your skin, but I've gone in shorts before and that was a certified Ouch. If you don't want to risk gauging your pain tolerance, opt for the high table or the bar, love yourself.
I love this place. The prices are good, and the food is always delicious. My favorite is the chicken katsu curry, the chicken is very crunchy and the salad it comes with is good too! The ramen tastes good and all portions are pretty large. I was not a fan of the cat pudding taste, but it was very cute.
Ramen Zuru is cool. I came on a Thursday night and there was no wait. We started with the chicken karaage ($8.50). Honestly, they were giving more popcorn chicken than karaage. The chicken came in more bite sized pieces and the batter was fluffier. I topped mine with the chili oil and they were delish with the added heat. I ordered the spicy green curry ramen ($13.95) because how could I not. It's a green curry broth, pork chashu, bean sprouts, fried shallot, coconut milk and chili oil. The broth was unlike anything I've ever tasted before. It's light, but distinctly curry in flavor. I'd like to add that the chili oil is not for the faint of heart - it's spicy, and more spicy. Thank goodness for that bean sprouts which helped with the cool down. We also tried the miso ramen ($13.95) which was good, but nothing to write home about. I really liked my meal at Ramen Zuru. It was easy, tasty, and relatively cheap. Highly recommend trying the spicy green curry ramen if you're looking for a new take on ramen.
My friend and I stopped by Ramen Zuru for a weeknight dinner and left feeling satisfied. Although the name of this spot has ramen in it, they also have curry and rice bowls on the menu in addition to the ramen. I opted for the chicken katsu curry which came with the chicken katsu itself, curry, rice, and a side salad. Overall, I thought it was an enjoyable meal. The portions were decently sized and I was even able to bring leftovers home. I wouldn't say that this is the best curry katsu I've ever had, but it definitely hits the spot if you're craving it! The restaurant itself is on the smaller end, but there's definitely a cozy ambiance that gives me Japan vibes. Service was friendly and we were checked up on often. It is located in the same plaza as 99 ranch market, so there's plenty of parking in the lot.

Ordered myself the Tonkotsu Ramen with extra chasu and egg while my wife ordered herself a chicken katsu. Let's just say the bowl did not stand a chance. Server was very nice and attentive. Immediately brought us water while we decide what to get. As far as the overall appearance of the establishment. It gives you a typical modern hole in the wall restaurant. Very small with limited seating. The artwork on the wall is definitely unique in a sense that if you are a Pokemon master, you'd probably ask for those art work to go. We will definitely come back!

One of our go to whenever we crave for ramen. Inside is relatively small with 4-5 tables and a bar area- intimate spot but delivers big on taste, offering a variety of traditional ramen dishes and delicious rice meals. We forgot to take a before photo because we were so excited to eat, and it did not disappoint! We ordered takoyaki, tokatsu ramen and chicken katsu curry - all very delicious. We particularly love the rich broth of the tonkatsu ramen and the chashu topping was killer! Melts in your mouth porky goodness
Had a quick early dinner here and it was pretty decent! Had their shoyu ramen and my husband got their tonkatsu. I really enjoyed the chicken ramen, it was delicious! It was very hearty, full of meat and veggies and broth was tasty. I really liked the noodles as well. Will def be back to get this again. They have a good amount of things in the menu that would be great to try next time. Service is pretty good too, nice servers and food came out timely. Overall decent ramen place around Artesia! It's def worth a try.
Checked out Ramen Zuru this past Saturday night around 7 and was able to be seated right away (though it did get full throughout the rest of our dinner!). Server was very kind! I got the vegetarian ramen. The broth itself wasn't standout, just a more clear and salty broth. The noodles were very good and they gave a lot. They gave a fair amount of tofu, it just didn't taste of much. The added greens and mushrooms were appreciated! I wish they fried the cauliflower differently too. Overall, a good bowl of ramen and cheaper than a lot of other ramen spots nowadays, but nothing special.
This place is amazing. I came in around 8pm, an hour before closing. The place is small but we were the only ones there and the vibe was very chill. The food is flavorful and just delicious. We ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen and the Chicken Karaage Bowl. The broth of the ramen was rich and creamy, the chashu pieces (2) were full of flavor, and the marinated soft boiled egg was perfect. The chicken in the bowl was nicely seasoned and perfectly fried, great crunch. There are chopsticks, napkins, chili oil sauce, chili powder, and soy sauce already on the table which is very convenient, no need to wave anyone down. I came here based on the other reviews, and the negative reviews I read are such BS after coming here myself. I'd recommend everyone to try this place out, 10/10. Not sure how the ambiance is earlier in the day when it's busy, but the evening was nice. Great food and even greater prices. Already planning my next visit!
Great local spot for ramen and other yummy Japanese foods. I've been here twice now and enjoyed both times. My husband likes the curry and I like the tonkotsu ramen. I ask for my soup to be extra hot because the soup temp during my first visit wasn't as hot as I like. The servings are good size for the price and they have a free drink offer when you dine between 11:30a to 4p. The service is friendly and attentive. I will be back!
Came in for a birthday dinner with the family tonight, we were not disappointed! We were sat down at the bar right away, there was no wait time and I think we got lucky because it got packed after we sat down. Service was great and the food was amazing! What we ordered: Karaage - Asian fried chicken with spicy Mayo, this was so good and the chicken was so crispy! The only thing I wish we could have done differently is order a spicier version of this. Garlic edamame - this was a first for me, it was a miso paste on the edamame and it gave it this different texture that I haven't experienced with edamame starters before, it was very good and I would order again Gyoza - basic but worth it, it was your typical chicken gyoza nothing special but all the comfort of a well made gyoza Spicy tuna rolls - very good!!! But it also felt misplaced with my ramen, either way it was delicious and tangy with the cucumbers We had different variations of the miso ramen and the shoyu ramen with thick and thin noodles. Needless to say they all satisfied and man were they packed and perfectly balanced among the toppings in them. I did even up adding chili oil and seasonings but I felt like it lacked in the spicy factor but that was just me I guess, everyone else in the group was very pleased with their meals and the level of spicy. October 2021 A small ramen shop in a busy shopping plaza. Parking is available in front. I ordered the miso ramen with Habanero hot sauce. I found that the ramen unlike most chain ramens had a more creamy broth with plenty of veggies (corn, spinach, mushroom), egg, and think chats. [Review #655] 2021 Yelp 100 Challenge (77/100) OTM Club 08/01/21 - 08/07/21 I always love OTM Club's curated Japanese restaurant options, & this past week was no exception... CHASHU PORK BELLY MELT (braised pork belly, cheese, pickled onions & cucumbers, garlic aioli) at Ramen Zuru. It's abut of a drive to Artesia on a Friday night, even though I was en route, it was at least another 20-mins. I called in the order & added a SPICY TUNA BOWL (spicy tuna, corn, pickled cucumber, rice, rice bowl sauce, spring mix, sesame dressing, furikake, katsuobushi), the friendly voice said it was only a 5-10 min. ETA, so I asked if it's possible to delay the prep & timed for pick-up in 20. The space is quite contemporary & simple in decor, using a touchless menu system via QR Code for your order; there's also a self-ordering kiosk to the right of the entrance for takeout orders only. The indoor dining room is socially distanced & supplied with togarashi, soy sauce, & rayu condiments. As I walked in, I was immediately greeted & informed by the server that she will be right with me as she was expediting an order. I showed her the OTM Menu app for the melt redemption & also had an order of rice bowl. Quick as that, I was in & out in a couple of mins. I can also tell my request to delay prep of my order was noted because the sandwich & bowl were quite hot. =) I didn't see the melt on the menu so it's actually off-the-menu. Mmmmmm... the roll was toasted & crisp, & the braised pork was well-seasoned & tender, offset by the gooey cheese & acidic veggies, with a creamy garlicky aioli. It's surprising to find such a delish sandwich in what's considered a ramen shop that I hope they consider giving this a permanent spot on the menu. The rice bowl had considerable amount of weight, & it's not all rice. You get 2 huge scoops of spicy tuna (though I wished it had a bit more "spice" to it) that's amounts to a cup... that's a lot!! The tuna, topped with furikake, is accompanied by corn, katsuobushi (aka bonito flakes), pickled cucumber, spring mix with a tangy sesame dressing, with the rice dressed in a rice bowl sauce, but I couldn't taste it with all the surrounding toppings, especially the distinctive umami flavor from the katsuobushi. It was a most satisfying bowl that my hubby almost didn't finish! I wouldn't dare order ramen for takeout due to the distance... I would definitely be back to try this innovative ramen lab's ramen! Have you checked out the pics?! Enticing! =D I especially liked the option of thick or thin noodles for different textual taste, pending on the toppings. With Chef Jaysson's Asian & French cuisine background, I'm curious to see if this is reflected in the ramen preparation. Hmmm... I love the friendly & efficient service! My order was complete with utensils & sufficient amount of napkins (no waste), & served hot (notating my request for delayed prep because of my long drive) though it cooled somewhat from the long return trip. Price points are on the moderate to low side but portions are generous, at least for the rice bowl so you definitely get the bang for your buck on this. With a seasonal menu, you better get here stat to enjoy your favs before they rotate out, but then, you're getting what's best & fresh for the season. How could you not love that? We ordered three Tonkotsu Ramen and an order of Gyoza. While the Gyoza was decent, it wasn't as good as it used to be. The Tonkotsu broth, however, was extremely watered down--almost like sipping on clear broth with no flavor. When I called to express my concern, they mentioned they were trying out a new recipe because the previous broth was too greasy. But shouldn't they taste-test the broth before serving it to customers? Considering the price, I really hope they improve their recipe, especially the broth, since it's the foundation of a ramen dish. I'm very disappointed. P.S. You have so much options for your noodles etc... Why don't you put an option for your broth. I am willing to pay a little extra quality food being served on my plate. read more
Came here on a weekday, late afternoon. It's a smaller restaurant so may not best for large groups. The staff seemed very friendly, attentive, and courteous. We are seated at the the tables outside. The food arrived within a decent timeframe, a few minutes after ordering. The ramen here is delicious! The broth was thick, rich, so flavorful and savory. I also appreciate the option to swap the pork chasu for chicken chasu. The chicken karaage was juicy, crispy, and also flavorful. The nacho zuru with the pickled onions, cheese, meat, etc, also very good. Prices are appropriate. Really good choice for ramen! read more

Checked out Ramen Zuru for a little pre-birthday Ramen outing. One thing that caught our attention right out the gate was the amazing appetizers, and in particular, the baos! They were light & fluffy, like little clouds with savory fat inside! They had an Alaskan Cod version to change it up for the standard pork, and both the Cod and the Pork versions were absolutely outstanding! Now, on to the Ramen! The #1 thing we noticed was the amazing chashu (pork belly). It was such a think cut and marbled in the best kind of way. The edges were crisped on a grill or something because it almost had a bit of a Southern BBQ "burnt ends" effect. It is the best chashu I have ever tasted and I have had a lot of Ramen places. I had the miso base while my wife had the vegan Ramen. The miso Ramen was creamy and smooth and they even gave you the option to pick your noodle width (thick or thin). My wife's vegan Ramen was full of fresh veggies including cauliflower cuts that were cooked perfectly al dente. Other members in our group ordered the shoyo and the green Curry ramen and everyone was satisfied with the beautiful creations that came to the table. There were a couple of points that possibly could've been improved, not huge, but little stuff. There was an absence of heat. There is typically a "spicy miso" ramen option, but there was not one available tonight. They did bring me some chili oil to spice it up, but it was more oil than heat so it was kind of a bummer. I later learned there was a special hot sauce and I was just unaware of it, so I will definitely be asking for it next time around. And the second (speaking of oil), some of the ramen could have been seen as a little heavy handed on the oil that made a very rich experience, especially towards the bottom of the bowl. Other than needing a little more of a spice kick for my high tolerance spice buds, Ramen Zuru killed it with their quality appetizers (baos, gyoza) and their ramen creations that came to the table looking like little works of art. I was starving and didn't have breakfast or anything this morning. I had a good run with the place so decided to try out the chicken shoyu ramen this time. The chicken has a bad smell I couldn't eat it. I left most of it. Fresh chicken shouldn't smell this badly especially when it's soup. I hope I don't get sick. read more

PHENOMENAL. Best part? SO many things are made in-house instead of stuff you can get anywhere. Rayu (Japanese Chili Oil): made in-house. Broth: MADE IN-HOUSE! Actual BONE BROTH, no condensed broth used whatsoever & you can tell. The art of ramen is definitely mastered here. Very friendly staff. Beautiful dining room. It's sooo good. I got tonkatsu with udons. Added corns. The pork was crispy on the outside and easily melted in your mouth when you take a bite. I am so glad this gem exists in this plaza. Talking from the standpoint of someone who ate ramen at so many famous ramen restaurants. read more

The ladies working as receptionists were kind. I will return for the food and for the amazing service. We had a really good experience here! Service was awesome. Server was courteous & recommended really good food. We had never been to a Ramen place before because I had no clue how & what to order. I had the Tonkotsu Ramen. The broth was flavorful & delicious. Great Pork flavor. Bold & totally balanced I asked for something full of Umami flavors & I got precisely that. Pork Belly was yummy! Loved the amount of bean sprouts & spinach. And I ordered an extra egg as it was delicious! My friend got katsu curry. It was also delicious. Remember this is the first time I have ever been to a Ramen place. I have nothing to compare it to. However I am a foodie & I know good balanced flavors. Absolutely delicious tonkotsu ramen. I have never had ramen better than what they serve at this restaurant. The Tonkotsu really is impeccable. The broth has a depth of flavor and richness that is hard to deceive and the noodles taste so fresh the egg is so flavorful and perfectly jammy. Love this place. read more
After a long walk at the beach and exploring some tide pools (7/25/20), my tastebuds wanted a meal they hadn't experienced in a while: ramen. Ramen Zulu is one of those bookmarks I had been procrastinating with. Perfect place for COVID-19 grub: Order from your phone or at the kiosk to the right as you enter. Then your takeout order will placed on one of the tables to the left. My spicy green curry ramen with thin noodles ($15.88 tax included) was al dente. The broth and the meat had really good flavor. Plus the meat was tender and easy to chew. The staff was cordial and welcoming. Parking - free in a shared lot with several other businesses including the 99 Ranch - can be a pain at times, but at about 3PM it is not too chaotic. As it's finally starting to cool off in the L.A. area, I look forward to trying more ramen. read more

We were able to easily get a table on a Saturday afternoon. The restaurant was quite small. It had a cozy vibe. The Tonkotsu Ramen and the Vegetarian/Vegan Ramen were delicious and VERY filling! The broth was creamy and flavorful. They also give you a jug of water with some cups. I would return to Ramen Zuru in the future. read more

I was expecting a pretty good ramen from them, but my Hope and expectations were shattered when I saw their "noren" curtain. They misspelled "ramen" and it's a shame! This is a good indicator that they're not authentic. I ordered tonkotsu. Chashu we're big but smelled a bit old/stale. Soup itself was good but their "thin" noodles were pretty thick. Service and ambiance of the restaurant was good though. Seems like they serve curry too but not sure if I'm coming back again. read more

Strictly update review on their home cook kit . Back in the area and decided to get some ramen. It's been a while since the lockdown. I was hesitant to get take out ramen, bc I didn't want the noodles to over cook. Message them they had a home kit option gave it a try. Instructions and packaging was simple and easy to follow. Takes about 10 mins in total to assemble it together. The broth still the star with depths of rich flavor. Noodles can be adjusted to how well you wanna it cooked. Chasu was simple to just do a quick pan fry. My only disappointment it doesn't come with an egg, but I can see why. You'll just have to add your own flare with the egg. Only other tip is to boil the broth rather than microwave if you like it steamy hot. $9 is a reasonable price point and don't forget to get some of their house made habanero sauce. Picked up an extra pack for other meals. Stay safe read more

Spicy green curry - this combination is perfect. Chashu was tasty and tender, bunch of green onion which is my fav, flavored egg was a nice add-on not too salty and finally the soup base was flavorful with the fried onion which you can only have it here I think. Not many ramen places have this fusion style which balanced between transitional TAO style thick soup base and lighter American style. Only the noodle not as good as Bannai which is a meh read more
Wow! The flavor is absolutely amazing! The broth I thought was one of The highlights along with the pork. The broth has a fragrant smell and taste and I really loved the texture of the pork chasu. The location is smack dab in a plaza next to little India. The staff was friendly and I like that they have little promotions here and there. I am always on the lookout for good ramen places and came across Ramen Zuru with 4.5 stars. The interior set up definitely makes me think of a small business in Japan, limited seating along the perimeter. The ordering system involves a tablet, and after paying and getting a receipt you are seated and then food is brought to you when ready. For such a high average rating I was expecting some delicious food, and with this expectation was underwhelmed. The price is on par with other places in the area, and from the ordering process you can exactly customize and see the pricing structure. We selected the Tonkotsu and the Miso Ramens. When trying a new place, I use the Tonkotsu as the meter stick by which to judge compared to others. First, the broth was heavy (creamy) with a suppressed flavor, I prefer a bold and robust broth. The Cha shu was seasoned well, and just a tad fatty for my liking (very few places do meat my leanness standard and do not hold that as a negative here). The Thin noodles were the right balance of chewy and firm. The Miso broth had a slightly stronger broth, perhaps the added miso turned the umami up a level. The thick noodles were not as cooked and therefore more tough, relative to the thin noodles, so I recommend the thin noodles. read more

Service was fantastic, but most importantly, food was good! I ordered the cha siu fries, tonkotsu ramen, yellow curry ramen, katsu bun, and green tea latte. Noodles were al dente and broth was flavorful. Katsu bun had a slight caramelized flavor from the slight charr from the bun. The house made sauces were so flavorful. Parking was easy. What differentiates this from other ramen restaurants is the tablet ordering. Customers first order on one of two tablets by the entrance, give the receipt to the staff & then are seated either at the communal bar facing the kitchen or one of the private tables. Another unique factor about Ramen Zuru is the choice of thin or thick noodles, made locally & delivered every morning by TAKARA RAMEN. Thick noodles, akin to udon noodles, are quite popular and the option we chose for our bowls of ramen. Parking is difficult to come by during peak hours at the 99 Ranch plaza. I enjoyed the tonkotsu & miso ramen at Ramen Zuru, especially with a liberal amount of the habanero sauce. I definitely would choose the thin noodles next time, for my taste. The time waiting to order and the hard block seats hampered our first experience, and while I will be back in the future, I'm not eager to go anytime soon. Nevertheless, the ramen was A-OK. I always pass by this restaurant and finally got a chance to try it! The restaurant is quite small, has bar seating and some tables, and can get pretty loud during rush hours. The waitresses were also kind and helpful. However, the food is truly the main star! I got the karaage curry and shared the chashu fries with the table. I believe everything is made to order so it does take a while for the food to come out. The portion size of the curry and fries are huge, but the ramen bowls look normal. The karaage is delicious, crispy, tender, and juicy. The rice is cooked perfectly. The salad greens looked fresh and the dressing is refreshing. The curry is tasty, slightly sweet, and the spices were not too overpowering. The chashu fries had tons of chashu and the fries were perfect, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
