I came here on a bit of a whim when I got my first craving for my traditional Friday night burrito de Lengua. They close at 8pm, so they're not a place you can go to for a late dinner. The Burrito was HUGE. My goodness. It was a little lacking on beef, but loaded with everything else. Lettuce, tomatoes, beans, rice, cheese, guacamole and sour cream. It was a little pricey, even though the portions were clearly amazingly huge. I'm not used to paying 8 dollars for a Burrito. 6 for a super burrito back in the Bay Area. $8? ehhhhhh... and 3 dollars for a Medio Litro (500mL) Mexican Coke (SUGAR FOREVER, HFCS NEVER) Considering this isn't really a full service sit-down restaurant, 11 dollars for dinner at a Bodega doesn't really sound appealing. Hence the 2 star knockdown. For all I know, this place has the best Lengua in the South Sound, but I don't know yet. Check back with me in 6 weeks. read more

In my many travels, Olympia could be the place I like the least. Most of the food there is average at best and the entrainment, nightlife and excitement pretty much doesn't exist. However, this place was some of the best Mexican food I have had ever! The service was a little on the slow side and they hoarded the chips and salsa like it was Aztec gold, but in the end the portions were large, food flavorful and the price was fair. Don't see myself driving here just for the food, but on my next trip south, I will plan to grab another taste of Mexico. read more

Soooooo good! You walk into what you think is a grocery store and find seating and wonder... Yes! They cook with the same products they sell. The food is soooooooo good! Best Mexican Food in this area - hands down! Very reasonably priced as well. I would recommend ordering a couple of tacos or some side dishes as the meals are HUGE. I'm not a fan of the cookie cutter Mexican restaurants we have in the Olympia area, but this place is not that. Ramirez's is an Authentic mexican restaurant. We usually order the fajitas and carnitas as our go to menu items, but there tacos and enchiladas are very delicious also. The only thing I would change is their chips. The chips are made from their homemade tortillas and when they get fried they are hard. I like my chips light and crunchy. The salsa they have are just right. Enjoy! read more

Quality food in an unassuming location. Full service sit down dining sharing a space with a small market. No frills in the setting or decor, but good food and service, which began with some excellent homemade chips. I don't have a lot of experience with wet burritos, but they seem to usually be topped with red sauce: here, they use their wonderful green tomatillo sauce. It's stuffed with the meat of your choice and the usual burrito fixings, happily also including avocado. The carnitas plate was not the best version we have had, but it was still good, and served with nice thick tortillas. Service was quick and pleasant, and they get points simply for asking if we would like to-go cups for our beverages, giving us refills for the road. Maybe it was just a bad day for them but the service was not very good. After taking the original order we never saw the waitress again until she brought two of our three meals. There was no explanation for the third meal and we only got it after getting up to ask. This is a family owned store, and you can tell this is their passion. We ordered tacos and a tostada. Taco were ok with a decent amount of carne asada. Chips and salsa were cold and watery, not appealing. I ordered a bean tostada and got a very very thin paste of beans on it, I requested beansr returned back with 3 beans and a portion of bean spread and the edges. I could taste the bean flavor but 6.99 really beans are less then meat why was it so hard to put beans on a tostada!! Never order again will I waste my money on Ramirez Restaurant again!!! This place has a Mexican meat market, homemade tortillas, you can even buy them warm, and lots of other items such as homemade salsa and pico de gallo. You can eat there since it is also a restaurant but it is also a great place to stop and bring home chorizo, or premade fajitas. These are the best homemade tortillas I've ever had. The only good Mexican food that I have found since moving to Olympia in October from the Tacoma area. No "white-washing" of the food here. This is what Mexican food is supposed to taste like. The service is great - just like if you were eating at home with the family. They also have a mini store where you can buy and take home salsas, tamales and other delicious options. I work in Tumwater so have begun coming to this location often, but I just found out they have a location on the West Side and am excited to have an option up the street from my new home. I could only eat half, and I was stuffed! And I mean STUFFED! I It was HUGE. It was the best freaking burrito that I have had in YEARS. It reminded me of an old high school flame. His parents were from mexico, and his mom made food like this. MMMMM. Truth be told I was only dating him for his mom's cooking. Just kidding! Kinda... Anyhoo about that burrito. The food was good and plentiful but the service was subpar. I placed my order over the phone using the online menu which most of us are doing during the quarantine. The website said 15percent discount for all takeout orders. I promptly went to pick up my food when I noticed the discount was not on the receipt. I pointed this out to the cashier and she said since I didn't mention the discount, I wouldn't be getting it. I pointed out that the website didn't specify that and she said since people didn't notice it, they weren't giving it to everyone. As I left, frustrated, someone came running out with a bag saying something about forgotten chips and salsa and looking pointedly at me. The cashier put a finger to her lips and shook her head. Definitely a hidden gem. The food is good and the atmosphere is friendly. We've felt very welcomed there along with our (loud, messy) children. They do have a bar area with music and what not but also quieter spots. Theres an attached Mexican market that, in addition to just being a place to shop, is a nice way to keep the kids entertained while the food is being prepped. We've eaten the food from all of the Ramirez location and is it always very good. We really enjoy their street tacos and the Macho Nachos and they will make changes to the dish the way you want it. The tamales have a great flavor and we'll have them again, but they a little too much masa. We also enjoy their salsas and guacamole. read more

What's not to like...Everytime we go here I try to branch out past the burrito world. I got the pozole last time and thought it was well flavored and very authentic (having eaten the same thing in Mexico). This of course means there wasn't cheese drizzled all over everything (which for me is a bonus because I'm allergic to cow dairy). The food was amazing! This is authentic Mexican food with flavors I only get to taste when I'm in Mexico. Tortillas were so fresh and they have a great store where you can pick up fresh salsas, homemade chips, snacks, produce, beer and Mexican pastries. The only reason it is earning a four star and not five is because of the building and furnishings. Personally, that is no problem to me when the food is bomb! This is a great place to go for a quick, delicious and low cost lunch. Since I work just down the road, this is a favorite of mine. Very authentic food shared with abundance. Large portions, good quality, and low cost make this a 5 star choice for me. The burritos are huge, three regular tacos will fill you up, and the service is awesome. They really care if you are happy and it shows from when you enter the door to when you leave. And a bonus is it is also a grocery store so you can shop for some great traditional mexican ingredients, baked items, and prepared foods. You can find very local products such as Pulparindo (A Mexican candy made from Tamarinds and chilis, bitter,sweet and hot all at once) which is a favorite of mine amongst many many others. Its location is in the corner of a strip mall and not easily spotted. It is a little hideaway but once you find it you will have no problems remembering when you go back. read more

After reading the reviews, and hearing first hand from my husband who had said he had a really great burrito from there, we stopped by on our way back into town recently. I ordered the pollo burrito (chicken) he ordered the asada burrito (steak) again. We had our two young kids with us so we ordered a couple of the kids burritos for them as well (chicken, bean & cheese). As a last minute splurge we grabbed some chips & salsa and a couple of churros to share. Food came pretty quickly which was nice considering we were ordering it to-go. The reviews don't lie, the burritos are pretty darn big, bigger even than the ones at the local taco trucks. Definitely a two-meal burrito so I was glad to see they came already cut in half. As far as the burrito goes, I was expecting it to be quite different from the ones you can get at local taco trucks because of the addition of lettuce, tomato, avocado and sour cream. I actually found it quite bland- and totally lacking of sour cream. Seriously- I kept waiting to hit the spot where it had all ran to and it never happened. I confirmed with the menu I had taken that I was supposed to have it..but there was none anywhere. And in the half I ate, I had one measly slice of avocado which basically was eaten in two bites. Rice, beans & bland tasting chicken were the primary filler. I actually started scooping on the salsa we bought for the chips to add some flavor which is something I never do. My husband was bummed that I was disappointed with my burrito, but he too conceded that his didn't taste quite as good as it did the last time he was there. And his had no sour cream either? Chips were good- salsa was decent - kids ate almost all of their burritos so those were apparently good as well. Verdict on the churros - another "eh". They were chewy and soft, with some sort of filling reminiscent of a cream-filled donut which was unexpected. Carne asada plate is divine!!! Delicious seasoning, tender, juicy and just mouth watering anticipation and pleasure with each bite. Their beans are wonderful, with just a bit of a kick. The rice I am not too fond of, but some friends liked it. We had their combo fajitas and decided the chicken was our favorite. My friend bought some pork tamales to serve at a get together the next night, along with some of the green salsa, and everyone raved about them. I have purchased the sauces, guacamole, chips, tortillas, and a few sweet breads. They have all been good. Only once was I a bit disappointed, and that is when I ordered a salad with asada. I was expecting large tender strips of the asada, and instead I got little chiclet sized bites that were hard cooked. They had an ok flavor, but I tasted the grill more than the meat. When I was expecting something that I enjoy immensely, and get little bits of charcoaled meat, I'm sure you can understand my disappointment. (I know now to ASK what type of asada is in the dish.). Believe me, the steak is amazing. I am looking forward to trying some of their other dishes too. The soups smell wonderful and most of the other food looks great. When watching people at the tables, they all seem to be enjoying. Oh, this is a family run business and everyone is really nice. The do get very busy around lunchtime, so done in service might be slow if you don't warn them you are on limited time. It is a very casual place and the dining area is rather small. I have been dinning at Ramirez for years and was happy when the West Olympia "to go" place opened . The food was great for years at the West Olympia location. However, I am done. The last several months the food has not been good. Cold chicken in tacos, watery salsa and beans salted to the point of being inedible. I hope you read this review and make changes.
