I see all of the previous rave reviews, so maybe it was just an off day. I stopped in Ramouns Kitchen for the first time today and was very underwhelmed. I am giving them two stars strictly for the excellent customer service and convenient location. However, the food did not please my taste buds. The jerk chicken seemed like it could have been great, but the sauce was somewhere between sweet and trying to be spicy? The 3 plantains I received were extremely dry, which made me think they had been sitting for a while. As for the rice and peas, simply put they were not good. I was excited to have a Caribbean spot around the corner, but I doubt I will be back. Much better options a little further out. read more

Tasty, tasty, tasty!! The Jamaican spot, short of being opened for just a year, is what the area needed. Every dish is well-seasoned and one of the most authentic in the MD area. From the brown stew chicken, the curry chicken, the oxtails, allllll delicious and savory! The Mac and cheese has to be theeee best! Chef Ramoun is the most humble, kindest yet talented chefs around. He gave up a complimentary dessert which was amazing....sort of like a warm sweet cake topped with a drizzle of caramel sauce! A perfect location in Bowie, the bite sized restaurant is cute and quaint. There's room at the bar or a few tables for dinning in. Clean establishment. Customer service was great. I ordered the red snapper escovisch with red beans and rice and plantains. The plantains were cold. The fish was good but it still had scales on it, which was undesirable. Since this was my time, here, overall I was pleased and left there full. read more

The customer service is the worst or dinner for three told the wait would be 20 minutes I noticed that several other customers that came in after me their meals were prepared and served before my order 20 minutes later one of the staff comes over to us and ask did we order the jerk chicken sandwich which comes with French fries to tell us they did not have French fries did we want another option which at this time we ask for rice and peas we also ordered Rasta pasta and chicken they give you so much pasta and very little chicken they add a piece of French bread which becomes soggy by the time you get home the jerk sandwich as well soggy bread. I will not eat at this establishment again they need to evaluate how they are taking care of their customers. read more

Ambiance: it's not a fancy restaurant, very homey inside with the booth and chair seating. The average table holds 4 people. Service: service is a bit on the slow side but we went for Sunday lunch so no need for a big rush I guess but if you have somewhere to go after then take that into consideration. Food: I got the plantain cups with the shrimp and those were delicious. I could have done two plates of that haha. I also got the salt fish fritters and those were ok. I think they were a lot denser than I expected and I make them differently so I was expecting a slightly different taste but not bad at all. I do wish that they had the bread pudding dessert that was on the menu because I wanted to try that but they didn't have it. This used to be Island Fin Poke. RIP!!! But I love what they did with the space. I have been eyeing it ever since it opened and I finally made it out! The new benches are nice, the reggae is blasting, and the far wall is a beautiful photo op! There's a sign right as you walk in that lists all of the entrees and sides. There's also a menu right at the register. I decided to go for something a little different... sweet chili chicken with rice & peas and cabbage. There was a whole cake also staring at me, and I found out it was carrot... I got a slice of that too. As I ordered, I noticed the big fridge of drinks, and shelves with beer and wine on them. Didn't get an idea of how much the beer and wine were, but I thought that was cool! I peeped a few Linganore bottles. I was also asked whether I wanted my food for there or to go -- love that option that encourages you to dine in! My order arrived in about 10-15 minutes, and I was on my way. I LOVED the chicken. I LOVED the cabbage. Now, i didn't love the rice & peas. I didn't find it being as flavorful and enjoyable as the other parts of my dish. All that to say -- I want to come back and try some patties and their jerk. I will be back! read more

Food is pretty good. Happy to have another Jamaican location close to home. This is the most authentic jerk in this local vicinity. Patties weren't bad, filling was delicious. Filling was sufficient for me, but they aren't stuffed full to exploding like others may prefer. It was Lent-haven't tried the beef ones yet. Overall, I am sold and will be a constant customer. I have only gotten food to go. The first time I happened to notice it was open and ran in to grab, lunch specials. The wait was not what I anticipated. Hence, this order was placed online and I was able to walk in and walk out. I would like to sit and dine one day as the restaurant is set up nicely. Where to start? The surly staff, the almost 45 minute wait for a salad, or the too-loud religious music?

I still enjoy the food here, particularly the oxtails, festival, and my daughter likes the jerk chicken. I ordered the curry chickpeas and potatoes for the first time tonight, and the black cake. My family is Jamaican so I'm very picky when I choose Jamaican restaurants to eat at. Ramouns Kitchen met all my expectations. I love the different options and how some parts of the menu rotate. So far I've had the curry shrimp, chicken soup, chicken patty, veggies and rice & peas. I have been wanting to try this spot since it opened. I can't say that my experience was great. Customer service: was left to be desired. The young lady at the front could be a bit better with customer service. She wasn't rude but she wasn't welcoming either. Food: I ordered jerk chicken and it was VERY dry. Pieces of the chicken were cold when I bit into it. On a chicken leg most of it was warm but there were parts that were cold as if they warmed up refrigerated chicken. This could explain why it was so dry. The jerk sauce was sweet with a little kick. I liked the sauce. Almost had a BBQ flavor. Everything tastes deliciously homemade. I was so happy to finally come across rice and peas that didn't taste like they came straight out of a box. The rice had a great flavor and was a nice fluffy texture as well. The mac and cheese had a great blend of cheeses and the cabbage was cooked well and tasted fresh. The brown stew chicken was really good and I appreciate that the gravy on it wasn't super thick. The jerk chicken was my favorite. The spices used seemed like they were the restaurant's own blend and not something they got pre packaged. Also, the service was good. Foods are very authentic. Ordered the jerk chicken and curry goat. Both are very delicious. Jerk chicken on the spicy side but I enjoyed it. Goat curry, can really taste the flavor. Best carribean foods I had in awhile and had been eating quite a few the last few months. Had ginger drink and it was very good. Definitely would come back to try other dishes. This was my first time at this location and it's 1 and done. I ordered the Jerk Chicken, beef patty, and Salmon. First the Salmon was reportedly good but this tiny piece was 26 dollars. This was totally unacceptable. I specifically ordered dark jerk chicken and made the fatal mistake in not checking my food because I received all white meat and yes it was dry as hell. The chicken smelled like fish and I was instantly disgusted by the odor. Lastly the beef patty was terribly dry like it was in there more than a day. Jerk wings were overly priced, spicy and the service was ridiculously slow. So spicy my whole mouth to include lips were on fire.

Food was well seasoned, well prepared and portion size was good. Our order was delivered by Grub Hub, so we never went inside the place, but the order was prepared well and nothing was left out. Again, can not comment about the ambiance because we did not go there but from the drive by, it looked pretty nice inside. The only issue we had was that the oxtail were a bit fatty, not just one of them, all of them. The beef patties were fantastic, the crust was nice and flaky and the meat was very well seasoned. Found this place by accident and I'm glad I did. I had the 3-meat combo (jerk chicken white meat, oxtails, curry goat and a double order of mac/cheese. First of all mac/cheese is my FAVORITE SIDE AND THEY KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK. I wanted jerk wings, but they were out so I opted for the quarter chicken against my better judgement because the quarter of white meat is typically a little dry NOT AT THIS PLACE IT WAS JUICY JUICY, and that jerk sauce is to die for. The Oxtail and Curry goat was not only seasoned well but like butter in my mouth. The portions were awesome. I have tried every Caribbean place I could find in Maryland trying to duplicate the food I got when I lived in NY. I FINALLY FOUND IT. The only thing let is to try the patties and coco bread. Theres a reason their stars dropped down to 3s, they sell bad food sometimes period. I am a supporter of Black owned businesses and I was there when these people first opened, the first dish I got was fresh and great. Ever since here and there it's hit and miss and yes sometimes you get sour bad out dated food that should be thrown in the trash and not palatable. I don't want anyone getting sick especially our people in the community so I'm leaving this review as a warning, eat there at your own risk and if the restaurant sees this, please get your act together and stop selling our people tainted goods. read more
