Glad to see Ranchman's open again post-COVID! It is a must to add to your trip to the area, or just a local outing. The food is prepared with love and genuine country cooking! The waitstaff are always pleasant and helpful. Be sure to bring your appetite!

Was so excited to go back after they've been closed for a couple years. The food tasted exactly the same but prices went wayyyy up. I know they're just getting started up again but service was really slow (hour+ to get food after ordering when they weren't very busy) It still has its unique, local charm but probably won't be frequenting for lunch again unless I have 2 hours to spare.

We happened on this place while finding a new route to the lake. It was almost like going back in time and walking into an old-timey steak place. Local reviews were good so we took a seat. Love new dining experiences and this one promised to be interesting, if nothing else. We started with an appetizer of Fried Green Tomatoes with a side of ranch dressing. The batter was crispy and full of flavor and the ranch was a nice compliment to the tomatoes. Great start! Our entree was a 12 oz T-bone steak, a 'famous' loaded baked potato that we were lucky to get (apparently they take reservations for these famous taters..?), a roll and a grilled quail on the side...because...quail! We ARE in Texas! The server informed us that the steaks are cooked differently than most, with minimal seasoning and steak butter on top. Ok...we're game... So here's the verdict on the food: Steak: visually not stunning, but nice cook and with some added salt and pepper, it tasted very good. Quail: nice grill marks, nice flavor, boring presentation, no sauce. Baked potato: OMG. Might be the best potato in Texas. I see why they take reservations for them. Dessert: TO DIE FOR!!! The strawberry-rhubarb pie a la mode was crazy good!! Overall: we'll definitely be coming back again sometime. NOTE: it is made abundantly clear that you are being filmed while you dine. Not sure how I feel about this yet, but 3 different people told us we were on camera and the owner reviews it daily. Hmmmmm...

Is there a cork or bottle fee for BYOB?

They are served with homemade Ranch dressing, which my son eats his with, but I prefer them as above.

However, as time goes on service and customer care seems to be declining. I'm in my mid 60s and have white hair, but the cashiers never offered the senior citizen discount unless you ask for it. I had good Birria tacos one time. The next time I went, they dipped them in consume, but didn't sear them off on the flat top so they were crispy so I ended up eating mush. That was my last review and I still gave him three stars for that mediocre attempt at a taco. I've been going to 407 BBQ for many years and I'm well aware of his sign that says if you don't specify, you get what you get no returns lean or fatty. Well I did specify, but the hostess didn't write it down on my order. OK you know what I am disappointed as all hell but that's my mistake since I didn't look at the receipt. Fine, but if you look at the receipt where I ordered a pound of brisket to go that clearly says lean, and it's a hell of a lot closer to fatty than lean. Look at my pictures below. That will tell you everything you need. My wife ordered the burger, which is normally very good and one of the more difficult choices that I have to make in life barbecue or burger. But this time it seems as though they put garlic salt on the burger or some sort of garlic flavoring which overpowers their burger we've never had to specify no garlic before, but maybe something has changed that I'm not aware of. Maybe he felt they needed to be more mainstream? Who knows. With the proliferation of really stellar barbecue now available around DFW I can no longer recommend 407. Maybe he's got too many young kids maybe I'm not aware and he sold out. Maybe he's gone corporate. I'm not sure what's going on. Maybe there's something going on in his life I'm not aware of and he's preoccupied with that. But I think I'm done with 407. He could've easily responded to my yelp review on the mediocre taco disaster, but he didn't. He didn't attempt to make it right. I published my receipt and he can go back in his system and see who I am. He's got my full name and phone number, but I doubt he'll contact me. It's a shame when he was working out of a small wooden shack, there seemed to be a lot more care about Customer Service and Support. There's always my standby Angelo's downtown Fort Worth, North Texas smoke out near Decatur, which is actually closer to me than 407 but has limited hours. Hutchins in Trophy Club and Daynes's barbecue in Aledo. I wish Brian and the 407 crew all the best. Hopefully they get things back

Visited for the first time with a friend for dinner on a Saturday evening and was shocked by the crowds. We didn't mind the 30 minute wait for a table at 5:45PM, and the three hostesses were cheerful and adorable. But man, the restaurant is all-caps LOUD. Even in a booth, we had to practically yell to carry on a conversation. For some reason, they also keep the interior very dark. Like, movie theater dark. Our server was polite and the menu has some creative apps along with tried-and-true TexMex entrees. We shared the Texas Egg Rolls as a starter and they were truly delicious. Highly recommend. But I was sorely disappointed by the beef quesadilla I ordered as a main dish. I opened the tortillas to find maybe--maybe--four ounces of fajita beef for the whole quesadilla. For $25, I was expecting it to be overflowing with beef in every bite, but it was basically a large flour tortilla with Monterrey Jack, plus one piece of raw onion and a few small shreds of meat in each quesadilla slice. The pico was good and the salsa that comes with the chips was super flavorful. I saw folks sipping on frozen margaritas that I'm sure were delish, too. But the service was just average and the food overpriced for what you get. I kind of which I could give 3.5 stars, which makes me sad because I love Marty B and I know how much he loves and supports the community in Denton county. But as for Cactus Canyon, I likely won't be back.
