We really wanted to like it! It was so incredibly hot in the restaurant, we were seated next to the door that was open about 90% of the time across from the kitchen. There was a window unit right behind us but was not able to keep up between the 110 heat index outside and the kitchen. We spoke to the manager who stopped by the table and he agreed the ac couldn't keep up with the door being repeatedly opened and they were likely going to enclose the porch at a later date to keep the cool air in. The dinning space is very small and very loud. The larger dinning area in the back is much cooler and not as loud. Staff was attentive and kept stopping by the table. I appreciated the customer service aspect but at the end of the day that was the only thing that was special about our visit. Appetizers were extremely small. We ordered onion rings and pickles for the table both were served with ranch. There is not a kids menu. We ordered a burger and fries, burger was good. Fries were not fully cooked. Bacon wrapped meatloaf, steak tacos and a ribeye steak. All of the entrees were cooked on a flat top. The 12 oz ribeye was about little over 1/2 inch thick. The meatloaf was cooked off on the flattop (it was a little spicy and had a kick.) The sliced steak in the steak tacos was on the tougher side. In total our bill was $135 for four people before tip, for four meals, three teas and two appetizers. With all the hype and success at other Marty B restaurants I was expecting the wow factor. This place just opened. They took an old steakhouse and turned it into a new restaurant saloon and outdoor area with a stage and live music. The Justin/Ponder area is ripe for a place (places) like this. We got there at 5 on a Friday night. We thought we'd be "early" but we were actually late. The place was packed and so we chose to sit at the bar in the saloon. The weight staff/bar tenders were great! We sat next to a guy who was celebrating his retirement that evening. The staff knew him. It made for a great convo. The staff is very friendly. Some are filling in from the other Marty Bs places. We enjoyed the fried pickles for apps. For dinner, I had the chicken fried chicken, green beans, mashed taters and gravy. My wife had the steak tacos with queso. Both were delicious. My wife enjoyed hers and I enjoyed mine. The portions are large so come hungry. Now the dessert was amazing. We definitely enjoyed the pecan pie with ice cream. Eyes rolled in the back of the head good. The drinks were great too. So my only thing that I have to say and I do understand why they chose to do this- they don't serve drinks in glass. This is because of the outdoor space. They don't want glass out there. I get it. But a bourbon on the rocks is not as enjoyable in aluminum cups. But whatever. The vibe and the food and staff way more than make up for that. This place is highly recommended BUT GET THERE EARLY or expect to wait. Yeah they have some kinks to workout but they are very easily over looked. We came on a Thursday night around 6 pm which seem to be the peak on this day so the wait was about 50 minutes. They have a big patio and a bar next to the restaurant. I ordered the fried green tomatoes with a jalapeno based sauce. It was great! Not many restaurants have friend green tomatoes in DFW and if they do it's usually not great but this awesome. They have a pretty big menu I ordered the salmon with mashed potatoes and green beans. They have a lot of steaks and beef dishes but my stomach doesn't agree with beef. The salmon was very good, juicy and really good flavors. Mashed potatoes was also very good. The green beans was ok. I was going to order their peach cobbler for dessert but sadly they were out. I got the blackberry cobbler with ice cream instead but it's not the same. It's a small restaurant so a bit loud but not too crazy. Service was good throughout the dinner. My wife ordered the chicken fried steak but it was way too spicy for her. We did mention it to the server but didn't make any demands. They gracefully took it off the final bill which was appreciated. We will definitely be back! read more

I've been going to the Ranchmans (Ponder Steakhouse) for well over 30 years. As we watched it close permanently we were sad to see an icon go. Then, I saw that Marty B bought it was breathing life back into such a long standing establishment. A word of caution, either go early or be prepared for a wait. Everyone is coming out of the woodwork because they know how Marty B takes restaurant experiences to another level. We had a 30 minute wait at 5pm on a Thursday night, so we went next door to the brand new saloon they opened. It doesn't feel brand new because it feels like you're transformed into a small western town but upscale at the same time. Loved the wait there and as expected the service is 5 ! The original dining room was only altered slightly, which was nice to see. Once again, service was impeccable, and our food, came out in a reasonable time. We had the chips and queso and added a steak bites and that was some of the best case I've ever had. My wife opted for the 6 ounce fillet and said she absolutely loved the taste of it and cooked perfectly. I had to go with a chicken fried steak with green beans and mashed potatoes. It's a huge portion so better be prepared to take half of it home cooked perfectly and seasoned perfectly. Marty does it again with Ranchman's! The drinks were delish, the food was on point, and the service was fantastic!! Everything was just as you would expect at one of his restaurants. This place is small, so be prepared to wait and grab some drinks at the bar or enjoy live music and drinks outside. The food, drinks, and experience are with the wait. They also have many gluten free options!! The potato skins were delish. I also enjoyed the steak tacos minus the tortilla, the chips and queso, and a couple frozen margaritas. (FYI, the chips are fried in the same fryer as the chicken.) we had the best night at Ranchman's and will definitely be back soon! This place rocks. The prices are great. The drinks are bomb. I had a premium frozen margarita and it was great! We ate at the saloon. Even at 8 on a Thursday there was a 30 min wait and with good reason. We had the sweetest bartender serving us. She was so personable. And really took interest in her customers. My husband got the chicken fried steak and it was divine. I had the 6oz filet medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. I got a salad and Mac and cheese. The ranch on the salad was great. They add corn off the cob and black beans to their salad and it was really good ... I ate every single morsel of the salad and my entree. Every. Single. Morsel. Went at 5:00 Wednesday and it was already jammed. We put our name on the list and retired to the adjacent bar area to wait it out. It was a lot of fun in there, with free samples of Ranch Punch. There is a very extensive outdoor picnic table area, but the temperature was high and the sun was bearing down, so we stayed indoors. Mixed drinks were good, but a bit smallish for the price. The beer selection was embarrassingly pedestrian - no crafts. We got a table after a 30 minute wait. The menu was mostly classic Texas fare: chicken fried steak, steak, burgers. Our table ordered chicken fried steak, chicken fried chicken, and filet mignon. Everyone raved about their food. The green beans sported just the right amount of bacon. We ate at Ranchman's in Ponder this evening. I have notes! The food was just as good as it used to be! Service was great! Davis was quick and attentive. But there was a wait when we arrived so we went to the saloon where there is open seating. That was a mistake. It is loud, and PACKED! Our table was in between where people wait for a table and the bar. We had to side step to move around other tables and guests to leave. Next time we will wait for a table. I can not say enough about Ranchman's by Marty B. It's a crescendo of old TX, small town history with new Marty B's style. The food is delish. The service was off the chain. From the hostess Berkeley to Caitlin who serviced us at the restaurant. Exceptional with all the supporting staff. Baron the GM greeted us and wished my hubby and I a happy Anniversary! Then, we we presented a handmade card by Berkeley, she said it's her speciality. I forgot to take a pic of the fillet I had, perfectly done and my hubby had NY strip. The drinks were fabulous and we went to the saloon to enjoy a desert drink. I'm afraid to post this because then it'll make everyone want to come and it'll make our wait time too long! The Steak was the best I've had out in a long long time! 9.5 out of 10. The portions were good for me and the party I was with! The prices were 10 out of 10 for the quality you get. A terrific experience while waiting outside with live music, and inside with great service (Ashley). They said the wait would be 75 minutes (Saturday night) and the wait was an enjoyable 75 minutes. We sat out back sipping on a margarita and listening to the musician. Once inside everything is efficiently hospitable. Ordered the 8 oz. filet and 12 ounce ribeye. Not the best examples of these two cuts. Will get the chicken fried steak next time. The restaurant is deservedly very popular. We drove 45 minutes to be here and don't regret the trip. read more

Certainly not worth the hype, the wait on a Saturday around 5pm was 30-40 minutes, not a big deal. We went next door to have a drink and appetizer. The fried green tomatoes were very good, would recommend. Once our table was ready next door, we went into the restaurant, very small, overly crowded, outdated restaurant for Marty B, as we were expecting something a little more upscale, certainly wasn't. The food was decent, very comparable to something like the Cotton Patch, although I would say the Cotton Patch would probably be better. I ordered the chicken fried chicken, very good flavor, except the batter didn't adhere to the chicken, the baked potato was cold and seemed to have been cooked earlier in the day and set in a warmer, didn't even melt the butter. The rolls seemed to be old, not fresh at all. The meatloaf was cold and dry, definitely wasn't a great experience, so wouldn't return or recommend. There are much better places around that serve fresher food. read more

The steak itself was good but the bacon grease gravy ruined not only the steak but the mashed potatoes as well. My wife ordered the chopped steak and baked potato. The T-Bone steak with steak butter is great, and there are many other notable items. I sampled the quail quarters and fried green tomatoes. Yes, even the salad dressing is great; instead of allowing me to agonize over the cucumber vs. the ranch they let me have some of both. Caution: the baked potato is so popular that they recommend a reservation if you want one (get it with everything). The free rolls are good but try to save space for the blackberry cobbler. The waitress did amazing work with our large group and the tons of food. It was a memorable experience. My only regret is not stealing anyone's fries. read more

I ate lunch at Ranchman's yesterday was working at DFW and it was within the 30 mile rule. Had my usual and sat at my usual place at the counter. Got a chance to talk with the wait staff, Dave the owner and the GM who is from Maui. The place really feels like home, almost felt like I should bus my table and take the to the dishwasher. Let me tell you the food is incredible the GM has me hooked on her collard greens. I am not a VEG person, but those greens are out of this world, she said it is the bacon grease that does it. Waited on customers out of order of arrival (excluding those who had made a reservation). Water isn't filtered, affects tea and soda. No bread came out of the oven until we were eating dessert, when staff realized they hadn't been serving bread---the entire 2.5 hours we were there they hadn't served bread. Both of us agreed that these were two of the best meals we have had in a very long time. Service was great, although there were only two wait staff working. If you go there, save room for their homemade pie. The coconut cream was awesome. You can tell by all the pictures that they have been serving great food for a long time. We have visited Ranchman's for many years. They had some things that were pretty good and a staple in the community. However, more recently the quality of food has gone down considerably. I ordered the BLT, which was my favorite. They gave me bacon not cooked to crisp, and no longer thick cut, wilted lettuce and tomato on a none toasted hamburger bun. It was a soggy mess. How can someone get a BLT wrong? This use to be a nice good sandwich. An establishment that has been on food network for great food, is now compromising in quality. If they are on hard times, I get it but limit your menu and cook what your known for and knock it out of the park. If they don't get back to their roots of what made Ranchman's famous, it will be doomed to close. read more
