I have been to the Classic Cafe many times over the years and always had an excellent experience. Terrific service, delicious food and interesting drinks. I've tried all the different appetizers and every one of them is a winner. The entrees always hit just right. The wine and hand-crafted drinks are yummy. Dessert is a can't miss. My husband is a fan, too. I like to meet friends there for dinner - great atmosphere to enjoy the latest goings on. Also, look at the paintings which are for sale! 8/19/26. Well snap! Got so excited about eating here that I forgot to take pictures! Oh well, food, service, and ambiance were all very good as usual. I've been coming here off and on for many years and The Classic never disappoints. The fried lobster bites were the perfect starter; hot and crispy batter with the one-bite lobster flavor bomb, accompanied by a small container of drawn butter. So yummy! I am not a huge tomato soup fan but at the recommendation of our waiter we ordered the tomato basil soup and it was very delicious and full of flavor. Then the beef tenderloin was melt in your mouth tender and perfectly cooked. We ended with the blueberry buttermilk pie for dessert, which was also quite good. I had the opportunity to dine here last night and had a pleasant meal. My date and I shared the house smoked salmon as an appetizer and it was very flavorful, I had pan seared ruby red trout and she had the pan seared salmon. Both were presented well, I will say that my trout was a little on the bland side but that could be because it was gluten free. Once pepper was added it enhanced the experience. We shared the Texas sheet cake with ice cream which was delicious. The wait staff was very engaging and gave this place a warm family feeling, so I will definitely come back. I would also compliment the wait staff of not giving that rush feeling some places have, which allowed us to relax and talk. read more

This place was unexpectedly amazing. My husband and I spent the afternoon visiting Roanoke for the first time and came across this place right around dinner time. We walked in and was seated promptly. We had the blue cheese and almost stuffed shrimp to start which were delicious and came out like egg rolls. My husband had the surf and turf and said it was cooked to perfection. I had the lamb chops ask rarely see them on the menu in Texas and they were fantastic. We had the jalapeno apple cobbler I was worried it would be too spicy buy it had the right amount of spice. We each had a cocktail I had the key lime pie, and my husband had the whiskey sour both were very good! Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable. Let me start by saying this is now my favorite restaurant in DFW. It's very charming and quaint but beginning to end, this is what a restaurant experience should be. Firstly, we were greeted quckly and served promptly. The whiskey sour is the best I've ever had. It's delicious. The shrimp rolls and okra patties were phenomenal! I can't recommend it more. My main was the surf and turf. I got it medium rare. These days that's undercooked at restaurants but I had faith in the chef after my experience this far and they didn't disappoint! My wife's lamb was super. Our desert was the jalapeno apple pie And it was delicious. I can't wait to go back. The employees couldn't have been politer. read more

Charming and classy in a comfortable setting. The service was outstanding, with knowledgeable staff that provided service with perfect timing. The sad part was the food - overall three of four entrees were okay (beef bourguignon, jaegerschnitzel, trout) - only the lamb chops were exceptional. The side dishes were very good. Desserts were not worth the extra anything - bread pudding was the strangest we've ever encountered- a small ramekin with dumpling like texture and lack luster taste. Crème brûlée was very good. This restaurant has been around for a long time and we've been dining here since the beginning. Very disappointed in this visit which makes us want to avoid it for quite some time. I guess it has been awhile, because my past reviews are gone. I have loved The Classic Cafe for many years. The first time I ate here was the early 2000s. Many dinners, wine tastings, lunches, and Covid deliveries later, it is still a fantastic, iconic restaurant. We celebrated my husband's birthday here recently. I love the old house and homey feel and the beautiful artwork. The service cannot be beat. I had their Whiskey Sour and loved it. It's a little on the sweet side. We started with the Roasted Garlic goat cheese dip. Amazing! We shared the Asian-marinated, pan-seared salmon with a soy glaze, mashed potatoes and cabbage. It is one of the best salmon dishes. I don't know if I have ever gotten a dessert other than their Crème Brûlée, so we decided to try the Jalapeño apple cobbler with Beth Marie's vanilla ice cream. It was so good that I didn't regret not getting the Crème Brûlée. My husband was very happy with his birthday dinner celebration. read more

There's a lot I liked about it here. Walked in no reservation, early evening, and seated in a nice table. The staff was more than attentive, friendly with honest opinion. Very chill, calm environment, , kind of old school comfortable, soft, almost lodge like. I liked our food, server and the place. My only complaint is that the Beef Bourgogne , while very good, was an almost anemic serving for an aggressive price. I never complain about prices, but price, portion and value are another thing. We very, very rarely dine out at dinner anymore as we eat very little in the evening these days, but my cousin from the Carolinas was in Denton on business this week so we decided to split the distance and meet in Roanoke. We were last at Classic in 2014. We have always loved dining at Classic though our visits to the Roanoke store have been relatively few dating back to the 90's. We, however, frequented the Southlake store for lunch during it's tenure. The ever charming and winsome host, Francis, is still there working his hospitality magic. Love him. Our server tonight, Jamie, did a very nice job of perfectly attending to us from start to finish. Classic Cafe is an old school white tablecloth venue with tables nicely spached throughout the restaurant's several rooms. It is so much quieter and peaceful that so many modern restaurants. The walls are hung with colorful, mostly modern abstract art. It all serves to make for a very pleasant ambiance. As you can see from looking at the menu on Classic's website the restaurant's prices are right up there with the very top tier restaurants in Fort Worth and Dallas. But the kitchen delivers the goods! My cousin went for the Prime Beef Ribeye $72 with Drawn Garlic Butter $6.. It was cooked to perfection, tender and flavorful. My wife had the Classic Salad and I had the Caesar Salad with anchovies, I both of which were very nicely done, $14 each. For our entree we shared the Bleu cheese and almond-stuffed shrimp appetizer wrapped with spring roll pastry, fried, and served with a ginger sweet and sour sauce. Six for $24. This was so good! The shrimp were cooked perfectly, meaning not reduced to Goodyear tire rubber consistency. All of the flavors worked together wonderfully and the dipping sauce was an amazingly tasty accompaniment. My wife had the Peach pecan bread pudding with whiskey sauce for dessert. How can that not be just crazy good? And it was. As we were doing salads and the shrimp I decided on the Rose from Provence. It proved to be the ideal pairing for our dishes. Such an enjoyable dining experience. So wish Classic did lunch as the prospect of a return for a dinner is slim at our age. But alas. Times and circumstances have changed. I am just so happy that Curtis, Chris, Francis and the crew have kept this gem of a restaurant rocking along for thirty years now. read more

Our friend recommended this restaurant so we decided to try it out. Four of us, including our friend who had been, came for a late dinner after going to see a movie. A young lady who greeted us was not so friendly but the waiter who waited on us was good except for him reaching out in front of me to serve or interact my husband who was seated left of me while I was engaged in a conversation with a friend who was sitting in front of me. Because we were full from all the popcorn we ate at the movie, my husband and I got the salads and our friends got a salmon dish. The food was delicious. Not sure about all the hype for this restaurant. It looks like a mobile home, the restaurant is very sectioned off and doesn't flow at all. Not a romantic ambiance in any way. The drinks and wine selection were good, and the limited menu was explained thoroughly. The "concierge" stopped by many, many times, mostly to tell us inappropriate stories of his past, and to breathe his cigarette breath across the table. That was awful. Food was good, deserts weren't bad either. Overall the food is worth trying, but the lack of ambiance and the constant interruptions and stinking breath really ruined the evening for our group. We were in town for an event that also coincided with a family celebration. We were looking for a nice restaurant where we could enjoy several courses in a relaxing environment. We certainly found it at The Classic Cafe! It is located in an unassuming house off of the Main Street. But as you walk in, the elegance is palpable. The artwork is beautiful and captivating. The restaurant staff are welcoming and unobtrusive. The food was delicious. I ordered the special of ruby red trout. We often have trout at home, so I was on the fence about ordering it out, but the preparation was unique. It was delicious and cooked perfectly. This is a classy, yet homey, place. Perfect for a special date night or an ordinary evening too. It feels warm and cozy and we could have stayed chatting over our drinks for a while. I can't remember our server's name, but he was excellent. He had some recommendations on the menu, which I always appreciate when dining at a new place. His timing was very good and we were not kept waiting nor rushed. I noticed a gentleman checking on tables, filling water glasses, and greeting people, and I assume he was the owner. It's always nice to see owners diving in and working alongside everyone. For an appetizer we ordered the roasted garlic which came with a goat cheese/cream cheese mixture, roasted red peppers, and some crostini. Very tasty. I'll want to try a soup or salad next time. I ordered the redfish for my main and it had a very nice flavor. The mashed potatoes were excellent as well - it was obvious they had plenty of butter which is what you always like to see with good potatoes! My husband ordered the duck and said that although it wasn't as lean as he usually likes, the flavor was good and it was cooked perfectly. We considered a few desserts, including the Texas sheet cake and peach bread pudding, but ended up settling on the jalapeno apple cobbler which I would recommend. My husband also ordered an after dinner drink, the "Classic Coffee" which has Bailey's, raspberry liqueur, some other booze, and oh yes, a little coffee. I'm not a coffee drinker but I tasted it and it was quite delicious. I had a black cherry mocktail and I must say they have some nice choices for non-alcohol drinkers. The prices are high enough that we wouldn't go here every week, but it's reasonable for what you get. Food is delicious, service is excellent and the ambiance makes it a very nice evening. Our family of five had a wonderful experience. Kids arrived famished. Our waitress must've brought five loaves of bread for them loved the brie cheese appetizer. My wife had the filet mignon. She loved it myself and Grandma had the Jager schnitzel with cabbage and mashed potatoes. We all loved it. Renovate house made to a stylish and cozy restaurant. It is right off of Oak street with parking right outside the restaurant. There is a ramp for handicap accessibility. The menu was diverse and many options are made from their own grown garden. The server was outstanding. They asked if we wanted to order and they would slowly serve the courses, all at one or other so they customize the experience to our preference, It was clear the server had tried many of the items of the menu as his experience and recommendations guided what we ordered. I am grateful as we tried new things. The prices were aligned with an amazing meal and the flavors did not disappoint. The restaurant itself is a lovely lovely little romantic (old house?) that is beautifully decorated - AND they've nailed the ambiance and lighting! FOOD. My lord have mercy... the FOOD! Steaks of course for us. Honestly, I'm not a big dude... I left angry at myself for not being able to eat more. Every bite was heaven. Their chef is far and above superior to most! Prices? Don't care. Seriously, very few of my reviews would ever say this. But here it is... I DO NOT CARE. From what I saw they were more than fair but for the experience, staff and food you get, I would have paid double without raising and eye brow (YOU ALL KNOW I DON'T SAY THINGS LIKE THIS!). Are you in the Dallas Metroplex? Within 50 miles? Go out of your way, stop in, I will look forward to your private message thanking me for this review. It is worth the drive, fighting for parking... when you get there, you'll understand. My boyfriend and I came here on a Saturday night for dinner, we came around 5:30 because we're old and we like to beat the crowd. And boy did it work! For the first 40minutes or so we had the whole place to ourselves, the entertainment came and we had music and what felt like the whole restaurant with just him and I. The waitress came over pretty quickly and was very knowledgeable about the menu and wine. I ordered a risotto cake for an appetizer, for my entree I ordered the butternut squash raviolis. My boyfriend got filet and asparagus and polenta cake. Shortly after ordering we got a small puff pastry app from the chef. I thought it was mediocre, the puff pastry tasted a bit stale and not enough filling in it. The risotto cake came, it was pretty good. The aioli sauce that came with it was all the flavor. Without it, it was kind of bland. Couldn't tell if they used arborio rice or not. Pet peeve or mine when restaurants don't use arborio rice for risotto. But overall it was pretty tasty, just needed a bit more flavor. My butternut squash was 50/50 the dough tasted good, but the filling felt like it was a bit undermined, like the squash needed to be mashed a bit more and with more seasoning. The sauce it came with did help with that too though. I regret ordering it mainly because I think I should've had the filet. I tried a bite of my boyfriend's filet and OMG it was cooked perfect, tender, perfect flavor. One of the best filet's I've ever had. Definitely ordering that next time. Even the asparagus was good. Polenta cake was very flavorful and delicious. My one complaint aside from the few things about the food, I had asked the waitress to give leftovers of everything, and the next day I was sooo excited to eat it but she had forgotten to put everything! I was so disappointed because it was all so delicious! However, I reached out to the owner and he made up for it with a gift card which was very nice of him to do. My husband and I went here for date night. We ordered one of our favorite wines - Belle Glos Pinot Noir. We shared the smoked salmon appetizer and split a classic salad. Both were delicious, probably my favorite smoked salmon when eating out. I had the duck - the skin was very crunchy and the cherry sauce was a good pairing. My husband had the prime ribeye that came out cooked and seasoned perfectly. He added a lobster tail a la cart that he loved but was a little undercooked for me. We both had the mashed potatoes and green beans on the side. The garlic mashed potatoes were super creamy and flavorful and green beans were very fresh and cooked perfectly al dente. We shared a creme brûlée for dessert. Everyone was very attentive and pleasant during our visit. We enjoyed our experience. read more

So my rating is based on my most recent visit (10/5/18), and a couple of visits in the past. It's also based on the fact that this is my wife's favorite restaurant, and she has been here many times for lunch. Whenever the company was going to pay for lunch, and Thuy was in charge of the reservations, she would make them here. When I saw an ad in the September-October 2018 issue of the magazine 76092 (A magazine for Southlake and surrounding areas) for The Classic Cafe's Bavarian-inspired 3-course menu ($39) for Oktoberfest, well I just new it would be the perfect thing for our anniversary. And it was. There are/were two choices of an appetizer (soup or salad), two choices for a main, schnitzel or sauerbraten (both served with spatzle and red cabbage), and apple strudel for desert. Being two of us, we got ordered of each. The meal started with an amuse bouche consisting of a black bean humus in a pastry shell. Woke the palate perfectly. Oh, Thuy also spotted fried okra on the menu, so we started with that. Very good, and it may have even been fresh okra. It was that good. Here are my thoughts on our choices: Salad, rather basic. Tasty dressing though. Soup was a potato and sausage. Very tasty and the clear winner. Schnitzel was served jager style, which traditionally means with mushrooms, and it was. It was good. A little thicker than we were expecting, but good. Very generous potion too. I didn't ask, but some German mustard would have taken it up a notch. Sauerbraten, nearly perfect. My grandmother used to make it with a gingersnap gravy, which I think is traditional. That was either missing, or just not that noticeable. There was a gravy, I'm just not sure if it was ginger snap gravy. If it was, there needed to be a bit more ginger. There were also raisins on the plate, I think maybe they were in the gravy, but I'm not sure. Regardless, it was good, and my favorite. If I didn't already have a pretty good recipe, I might come back for this alone. The sides were also very good. I'm a huge fan of spätzle. In Germany, the only way to get spatzle with schnitzel is when you order jagerschnitzel, which I did often (asking for the mushrooms on the side, not on top). The red cabbage was sweet and tart, just like it should be. Before our desert arrived, a dish of ice cream arrived with "Happy Anniversary" written, in Chocolate, on the plate. Nice touch. Then the bill game. Hey, what about the strudel? We pointed that out, and the strudel was delivered next, with ice cream. The strudel was quite good. A smallish portion, but after the anniversary ice cream, we weren't going to quibble. Service was great throughout the meal. Our server, Chris B., did a great job. Attentive, without being overbearing. Also worth noting, is that portion sizes on the mains was generous. We took some of both home. It was even delicious the next day, especially since I could have mustard with the schnitzel. FYI - The special runs through the end of October (2018), so it's not too late. I chose this restaurant to celebrate my birthday. On 12/27 we arrived 15 minutes early for our reservation but were seated promptly by a lovely hostess who made us feel welcome right away. What an impressive start to the most wonderful birthday dinner I've had in a while. Jeff was our server; fun and knowledgeable about the menu, made several great suggestions. Francis; charming and personable; a role model other GMs should aspire to. Curtis, one of the owners, congenial and welcoming. He chatted with us about the changes that the business made due to Covid-19. Ok, you are wanting to know about the food (you would not have read this far to see what the 5-star rating was about). Appetizers that were shared: Bleu cheese & almond-stuffed shrimp, Cream of roasted poblano soup (which they split for us). The soup was exquisite, and the shrimp were tasty. Entree's: Seared maple leaf breast of duck with a cherry rosemary sauce, garlic mash & steamed green beans for me; Prime beef ribeye, garlic mashed & braised red cabbage for him. I have never had a duck dish that was cooked so well; the steak had a wonderful pepper crust, tender, both proteins melted in your mouth. Dessert: dinner ended in an epic experience with taste, kindness, and laughter. Beth Marie's salted caramel ice cream, jalapeno apple cobbler with Beth Marie's vanilla ice cream. Both were a perfect end to a delicious meal. The thing that made this the most scrumptious time at a restaurant: I had not said it was a birthday celebration on the reservation. Jeff asked if we were celebrating Birthday? whose? When my dessert was brought out it was on a chilled plate with a personal message done in chocolate ganache & strawberry coulis. Early seating with reservation. Very nice place in an older setting, tables of white linen. Our waitress Avery was very on top of things and did an excellent job. I assume the owner or manager walked the restaurant greeting us and everyone as well as checking on everyone which was pleasant, many couples called him by name which tells me it is good based on return clientele. We started with the Roasted garlic, red bell pepper and goat cheese, excellent. Main courses were the Asian salmon with soy, absolutely perfect as well as the Red ruby trout that was cooked to perfection. The green beans were steamed properly with a nice crunch. The only drawback were the mashed potatoes that were very tasty but had been plated too early and were somewhat hardened. Being our anniversary and given notice at time of reservation we shared a Texas sheet cake with ice cream and they brought it out with a nice decorated plate with chocolate ' Happy Anniversary' written around with hearts. Completely enjoyed and will likely make this a regular stop when in Roanoke. read more
