We took our car to get smogged, and the check engine light was on and they still performed the smog test and charged me for the smog test and diagnosis. It cost me over $150!!! They should've told me that my car would fail because my car's engine light was on. Then, they told me they wanted to charge me $400 to replace my spark plugs! I know it doesn't cost $400, not even $100 to repair 2 spark plugs! So I went to another repair shop near-by and they told me they would always advise a person that their car would fail because of the engine light being on. Based on OUR experience and the outcome to our repair, I gave this 2 stars which I think is fair to say. I don't appreciate people who take advantage of people, business may be business, but integrity and honesty is what I look for in a company, and I didn't get that experience. Good luck! read more

We were looking for a last minute smog before we had to register our car. I've never had to smog a car because we never keep cars longer than a couple of years. I found a great coupon from them online so decided to go in. They initially said they couldn't see us until 4 and it was about 215. I explained I couldn't stay past 3. The gentleman Jeremy said give me a second and went and checked in the back and came back and said write her up to the guy in the front who said he couldn't help us until later. I was amazed and so so thankful because we only had today to get the smog test done because we can't come in during the week and needed to get this done asap. They had us out within 20 minutes. Years ago I had some negative experiences at this shop - previous management I think - but the many positive Yelp reviews encouraged me to give them one more try. I'm glad I did. This turned out to be a major repair but they did an excellent job of explaining the problem and the choices for resolution (I am a time-stretched backyard mechanic of sorts and knew they were on the level with their diagnosis). One thing that really impressed me is they had to replace the alternator but did so because they accidentally broke the existing one in the course of the repair... it would have been so easy to drop it on my bill as just another encountered bad part. They didn't do that, though, instead readily admitting it was their accident and the replacement would be on their nickle. So glad I gave them another go... and to know there is a good and trustworthy shop in my neighborhood. read more

Ok so I hope your experience is as good as mine was. I had to get smog check to transfer title on my car, this shop was in the area. I checked if out on yelp and then cacautiously approached the task. I met Jeremy, part of the new management, previous experience includes Drew Ford. The smog check was clearly marked 59.99 but there was on online coupon that reduced the price to $29.75. I mentioned the coupon to Jeremy and he said if I showed it to him on my smart phone he would honor it. Did and HE Did, honor it that is. They were busy and It took about an hour to get the check, $8.25 for the certificate (which is normal) and I was done. Jeremy thanked me for my patience, (did I mention they were busy?) , I paid and was about as happy as can be having used this shop for the first time. My car had a mysterious rattling sound when I was driving on the freeway. I took it in to Rancho Auto, specifically to Manager Ron Aguila, and decsribed what I was hearing. They found out that the only issue was that a couple of nuts on bolts that were loose on an engine plate; total cost to me for them taking it for a drive and solving the problem? $60!! The level of trust I have in Ron is as high as it could be because this was an issue that seemed like it could have been serious so it would have been easy to come up with a more complicated 'problem' easily costing $500-1000. Afterwards, I spoke with Ron about his prior experience and found that he is working at Rancho Auto because the ownership makes him feel like its a 'family operation' that he is part of. My wife has had the same experience when she takes it in for regular service appointments: no unneeded 'upsells' that bump up costs unnecessarily. My wife and I will continue taking our vehicles to Rancho because of the level of trust we have in Ron! Thank you read more

Been going to Rancho Automotive for about 7 years now. They've always done good work and have a quick turn around. They've always been honest and upfront about what's needed and why. I have been satisfied with their service (much better than the dealer). I tried other shops that quoted me less for the work but always ended up paying way more after dust settles. I took my car there because the check engine light came on. He hooked it up to the computer and said it needed to go to a dealership becuase it was an emission problem.Ok, so when I went to get my car, it was gone. One of the mechanics said that he was driving it to make sure everything was done right, I said...you didn't work on it!. I waited 10 minutes before the owner drove up with it...never did say where he went, just that he wanted to see if the lights came on, on the dash board......but I was short a quarter tank of gas and 25 miles were added onto my mileage and to top it off, he charged me $98 for the diagnosis, he is a crook, cheat and so many other lowsome words. guess when I saw no other cars being worked on, it should have given me a clue... rip off artist...Hope he goes out of business.....Wish I had read these comments BEFORE I went there! read more

Came in for a smog check for my 2000 Excursion but unfortunately California's new laws don't take into account that my vehicle despite being post 1999 is OBDi. Steve and his team were unable to complete my smog but were very nice and explained exactly what was happening and why. He referred me to a Smog referee to complete my renewal requirements as they were unable to bypass the laws without possibly incurring penalties. I will be returning for future smog checks as their prices are competitive and their waiting area was very comfortable and easy to handle my 2 young kids in. First time I took my car here. My car did not start so I had to tow it to the shop. I took it on Thursday and Jeremy told me he won't able to look at until Saturday which was fine it me. On Saturday he called me and told me he would have to change the fuel pump and when you change the fuel pump you would have to change the filter as well so he gave me a quote of $1030 (some other things had to be done as well) after few hours he called me and said my car is ready and the final cost was $700 because he said that the pump came with the filter so that save me $300. Most shops would have not said that they would have still told their customer the $1030. Also my car few month ago would like of stop when I come to the light and took it to a person who works on E320 could not find the problem. Over all great service. read more

Rats! Yes, rats ate the wiring in our truck, causing all kinds of complications. The first mechanic we brought the vehicle to, said it needed a new transmission, at $3,000. Thank goodness we brought it to Rancho for a second opinion. While we had to agree to a fee for them to search out the problem, the end result was that the transmission and a host of other wiring problems due to rats, were fixed at less than 1/3 of our other quote. Along the way, the mechanic was very clear about the realities of the progress which was happening, the prognosis and the difference between what we could count on and what we could hope for. It was a lot like a doctors advice when something serious shows up! This place is great and I highly recommend them due to their honesty, diligence and expertise. read more
